Blue Dolphin Cafe is the only sit down breakfast spot on the north end of Lonboat Key. The food and service were both great, but nothing super special. This is a classic diner. They do have alcohol, so you can always have a beer or mimosa with your brunch! The service was quick and our food had great flavor. There is ample parking, but the location is very walkable when temperatures are mild.

We have been coming here for years. Every time we visit Longboat this is our staple. Food is consistent. Nice little cafe that serves breakfast and lunch. Service is good. They have oldies music playing which is so nice. This is a nice play to visit if you are in the area.

It was a fine little place to have breakfast but it's just like any other diner. The water they gave us didn't have any ice in it, no one offered us coffee, and the side of fruit that I got didn't even have a single berry in it!

This is our breakfast spot every time we stay in Longboat Key! You can't go wrong with anything on their menu. My husband got the blue dolphin special and I went with the Homemade corned beef with fruit and toast. Their corned beef hash is delicious! Most places don't offer homemade corned beef hash, usually it comes straight out of a can. Not here! The staff is very friendly and the service is fast. If you haven't been to this local family owned business and are in Longboat Key, this is a breakfast spot you have to try! There's a reason why we will remain repeated customers!

My FAVORITE brunch spot in LBK (or maybe anywhere, ever!). We've been coming to Longboat twice a year for over 3 years now and I make sure I get Blue Dolphin at least twice each trip down. The food is so good (and usually very fast), the staff is friendly and nice. You can tell they work really hard to make it a nice experience! Portions are big, the breakfast potatoes are super delicious. My favorite things to get are the western omelet or the bacon egg and cheddar egg sandwich. I just love it! See y'all again soon! :)

    Adorable.

Always a good place to hit for breakfast on the Key. Gravy is great. Scrambled eggs are cooked to perfection. Service was good.

They have a few picnic tables out front and more seating inside. We got a parking spot no problem and went inside. It is an order at the counter place with a dark wood feel. This is not your typical BBQ place, their website describes their restaurant as fast casual + BBQ fusion. Many traditional BBQ items such as ribs and baked beans are not on the menu, yet they offer other items like a Cuban sandwich. I went BBQish and ordered their Double Brisket Burger, and Canadian with a large order of Poutine. I recommend checking out the menu before you go the first time just to make sure you see something you want. My brisket burger was very tender and easy to eat. I liked it even though the caramelized onion added a burnt taste. It was a lot of food. The flavor of the poutine was subtle, and was a lot of fries. High marks on their Cuban sandwich from my dinner companion. I liked the place, liked the people, liked the other customers who we chatted with. We are local but seldom make it out to the beach so nice vacation vibes rubbed off on us as well. We left full and happy.

Brisket burger was good, a bit greasy, but flavor was ok. The loaded chips were definitely different. Chips were a barbecue flavor, smothered in blue cheese dressing and large chunks of blue cheese. The blue cheese was the best part. Chips not that great. The inside is rustic, a few tables and chairs with picnic tables with umbrellas out in front.

Tuckered into an old gas station building, is a fun little place called Whitney's. They have indoor and outdoor seating and are dog friendly. Their flavored margaritas - cucumber, Jalapeno, classic are amazing, and super fresh tasting! Typically I order a pitcher of margaritas and go through the restaurant to the other side where the garage door opens and they have a cornhole area with Adirondack chairs, so you can relax while playing. Wander inside or outside to your table and grab some delicious food. My favorites are the grouper bites, grouper sandwich, the BEST Caesar salad (seriously I dream about this one), and the burgers. The service is always top notch here too - another added bonus. They occasionally have live music on the patio which is a fun vibe. If you are on LBK and wondering where to dine, check this place out. Very relaxed atmosphere, so dress casual grab a margarita, play a game of cornhole, then go grab some delicious food. I'm a big fan and think you will be too! Till next year Whitney's, that time can't come soon enough! Cheers & Enjoy!

Once our large group was seated, there were fans around us, so the bugs went away. I am from California, so I am not used to good service lol, so I was pleasantly surprised with all the "Yes ma'am," "Thank you, ma'am," etc. The server was nice and a total trooper with the number of people he had to keep track of because we all had separate checks. He did an amazing job, and we were extremely grateful. I tried their Housemade Crab Dip, and it was delicious. It was a great portion, really creamy, and well seasoned. For my meal, I had the Admiral's Platter. Everything was delicious, not too oily, and I loved the dipping sauces that came with it. Overall, it was a great experience with great service. We sat on the water and enjoyed a beautiful view. The decor and atmosphere is beachy and relaxing. The cocktails were good. The parking is convenient. The bad part that made it disappointing. The food was not great. My grouper sandwich was fair. It was kinda bland. The slaw was dry. The fish and chips was odd. The fries were decent. The fish was inside a very thick coating of batter. The crab legs were good. The coconut shrimp were good but too heavily battered. The green beans on the side were totally unseasoned. The worst was the chicken sandwich. It was tasteless with a a thick greasy batter. It was bad. Once we decided to send it back our server took forever to return to table to check on us. We were mid meal before we checked on. My daughter decided to pickup something else at a different restaurant after we left. How do you mess up a chicken sandwich? Unless you are just coming in for drinks(or crab legs) I would recommend a different choice of restaurant. The view adds one star to the rating.

I was seated facing a wall so I didn't get a good long look at my surroundings but between what I did see and looking at photos posted on Yelp the theme seems to be chickens. Our server was friendly and available to answer any questions as we spent time looking over the menu. I settled on The Hitman, a double patty smashed burger with American cheese, hen sauce, fried mozzarella, Nueske's bacon, with a side of garlic parm fries. It isn't listed on the online menu but there is a note the menu changes frequently so it may not match the day's offering. Let me start by saying that two of the people at my table got salads and were disappointed that there was too much lettuce and too little other stuff. With that out of the way, let me talk about The Hitman, which I loved. What is Nueske bacon? This is a special smoked flavorful bacon made by the Nueske family. Fork & Hen uses thick cut, and there were two slices on my burger. My burger towered so high there was no hope of picking it up, so I attacked it with knife and fork. Being made with Focaccia bread certainly added to the height, but so did a thick block of mozzzrella cheese. The cheese, melted on the inside and crispy on the outside, was substantial. I would be careful biting into a hot block of melted cheese, think pizza mouth. In my photo I broke into one corner to show that is cheese, so much cheese. The burger patty part topped with American cheese was by itself great, like you might find at a home cookout or Smashburgers. Other toppings were there but for me this was meat and a lot of cheese. And as much bread as you want. I loved my surprising good cheeseburger.

Our table ordered a couple of dishes: chicken and waffles, southern fried chicken, shrimp fried rice, and the hitman. The water tasted like it came straight from the water fountain outside the restaurant. Chicken was overly breaded and salty, and the corn cake was sour. I also don't know how they managed to dry out dark meat. The waffle was semi burnt. The shrimp "fried rice" was soggy, vinegary, almost sushi rice like texture, and shrimp was heavily salted. The hitman smashed burger... the hitman probably killed people with the insane amount of salt on the plate. See the theme? Lighten up on the salt unless you're trying to give your customers clogged arteries. Extremely disappointing considering all the great reviews we saw before going.
