After a relaxing day at Siesta Key beach, we stopped at The Cottage for lunch. I cannot say enough great things about this restaurant. It's got a relaxing beach vibe with outside seating and a nice patio in the back with enough shade. I could tell that they host nightly entertainment here with a small stage. For lunch, I ordered the lobster maki roll. I'm not a big sushi fan, but I was intrigued. This lobster roll was one of the best sushi rolls I've had in a long time. Also ordered include the blackened grouper sandwich, billionaire burger, and tempura shrimp appetizer. Our group loved every entree. The cocktails were also refreshing. We booked this place via OpenTable since it received great reviews. We ended up parking next door since parking was a bit hard to navigate. The parking place had ample parking where you needed a mobile app to pay for your parking. There was a larger souvenir store there if you needed to kill time before your seating. Once it was our time for our dinner reservations, we were greeted and seated at our table. Our waitress was a bit sarcastic or had a witty comments that didn't sit well with my kids. When ordering our foods, the kids asked what type of drinks they had since it was not listed on the menu. She said Coke but didn't elaborate that they had Coke products. Since she said Coke so fast our daughter didn't hear the response and asked her the question again where she just said that's a great question and ignored her and moved on. Food wise - we had the Peruvian ceviche, Peruvian chicken, I think I had a special grouper dish. The food was good. We were able to eat everything and the kids enjoyed their kids burger meals. One of my favorite restaurants in Sarasota/Siesta Key during our one-week trip--we liked it so much we went back a second time. The first night we tried for dinner but couldn't get a table with a two-hour wait, so we came back for lunch on two different days right at opening and were seated right away. The food is delicious and everything feels fresh. The steak skewers were our favorite. The only letdown was the lobster roll--we didn't really like the sauce. Other than that, everything was great. We've been to Siesta Key multiple times but have never eaten here. It was highly recommended so we went when we were there on a girls trip. Seated promptly outside. The vibe was nice- the decor was cute. We ordered a few apps to share: the short rib bites and the tuna tiradito. Both were fantastic- I can't stop thinking about the short rib bites. They had great flavor and were super tender. It was a unique twist on short rib which was nice also. The tuna was extremely fresh, some of the best in Siesta Key. I prefer more of an Asian style tuna vs the truffle sauce it was in but still good. Entree wise, we all ordered something different: the anticucho wagyu skewers, the patio salad with steak, the forbidden salmon, and the Thai curry grouper. Everyone gave their food a 4/5 or 5/5. I personally had the grouper- it was very good and cooked well. A little too spicy for me- I was able to eat it but would've enjoyed it more if less spicy. The waitress did warn me but I wasn't expecting that much of a kick. A few hiccups we had: brussel sprouts came out late and weren't hot and my side salad never arrived so we just had her remove that from the tab. Something we noticed that was definitely a little shady- the bill she brought us had the item removed but once we ran the card and brought it back, the charge was added back on. I really liked this dining experience. This place is right in the heart of Siesta Key. It has a total tropical vacation vibe. We ate lunch on the front porch under a tiki roof, which was fantastic! I had a big delicious margarita with fresh lime juice. Our food was really fresh and good. I appreciated that this restaurant had gluten and dairy free choices. They had healthy choices as well as some really delicious looking more substantial fair. Our waitress was very personable and we enjoyed chatting with her. This is a gem of a restaurant! We had dinner on the back patio last night and the area was so peaceful and quaint. It was nice to step out of the busy street and crowds to enjoy a quiet dinner. The live musician added a wonderful touch to the ambiance with his instrumental music. Our server was vey nice, attentive and knowledgeable. Absolutely delicious! The food here is crafted handmade down to the delicious tartar sauce. I ordered the blackened grouper sandwich and my friend had the tuna sandwich, both which were delicious and flavorful. We also had the hummus which you can tell was made from scratch. So good in fact that I ordered some to go. The drinks were also delicious, ordered a mocktail strawberry limeade which was to die for. A bit high on the price side for a beach casual environment, but the food is so good that it's completely worth it. This is a new favorite spot that I will definitely be coming back to. The best grouper sandwich I have ever had!!! Visited Siesta Key this past weekend and stopped by The Cottage for lunch. I have never been to either and was so happy we came by. The restaurant is small but quaint. It's an old log cabin and the story of the restaurant is on the wall. The Food was outstanding!!! The grouper sandwich tempura fried was amazing!!! Had my dinner here on my first night of my getaway. It was pretty busy when I walked in but they had some open tables in the back and had live music toward the end of my meal. It was a slightly cool evening but they had portable heaters spaced throughout the tables. Overall, the vibe was beachy, tropical. Something that is very fitting in the village of Siesta Key, for sure. I ordered their lobster bisque to start. It was quite filling. Very flavorful, had chunks or veggies and (potatoes?) I then ordered their poke bowl with tuna. The waitress suggested a sauce that I unfortunately cannot remember. I took her suggestion though and it was good. The prominent flavors were soy sauce and Wasabi and you can't really go wrong with that. There were freshly avocado, chopped mangoes and veggies in the poke bowl. Very tasty and a great light dinner after the lobster bisque. I was finishing my glass of wine when the musician started playing. It sounded like lo-fi to me but I'm not sure. Anyway, it was rather soothing and I enjoyed it. I ordered another glass of wine, stuck around for a couple more of his music and tipped the guy. It was quite nice for a Sunday evening actually. On that first visit, we sat on the porch and enjoyed appetizers, the mussels were so delicious we ended up ordering a second round. This year, for my boyfriend's birthday dinner, we stopped in again for drinks and, of course, the mussels. I had the white sangria, which was perfectly refreshing, and he ordered the old fashioned and the candied cherries in it were unbelievably good! Our server, Stacey, was wonderful! she was attentive, fun, and took both my allergy and my preferences seriously. We grabbed a hightop by the bar around 7 on a Sunday evening, and the bartender was just as friendly and welcoming. So it's a really good place. First time we went a few weeks ago the guy at the host station said nothing was available inside and we could sit outside next to a very hot heater - it was a cool nite. This despite the fact we could clearly see it wasn't packed and people were finishing up. So we sat for 2 minutes and a couple left. I went over to a young lady working there and she said sure we could be seated in there - and we were. So ... moving on. The Cottage is one of my favorite restaurants! The patio salad is the best salad ever! I get the appetizer sized portion and add blackened shrimp. They have a kids burger that you can ask for and they are the size of a normal burger but a fraction of the price of their billionaire burger so this works out perfectly for the whole family! They also have a couple of good mocktails! It can get loud when they have musicians play inside the restaurant in the evenings. Lunch outside on their front patio is perfect. They have fans outside for when it's hot and you can people watch everyone walking or driving down the street. The service has always been great! read more

This was a great afternoon pick me up after a stormy day at the beach! After failing to check the weather app and driving the hour to Siesta Key to only arrive at the beach and watch lightning striking the nearby palms, we decided the day could not be a total bust. Enter The Cottage, a beach bar themed beach bar with tapas, cocktails, and friendly service. A little on the pricey side? Sure. Some parking spots? Yes. Good food? Also yes. Some people at my table ordered (virgin) pina coladas, which I will say were quite good. I had the cocktail with fig vodka, which I did not enjoy as much as I was hoping I would. Everyone enjoyed their food though, and the waiter was very kind enough to give us his recommendations when I asked. He had some solid evidence backing up his choices, too. I went with the tuna tacos per his suggestion, and they were rather good. I also thought that the truffle fries were tasty, too. Had a late lunch at Cottage in Siesta Key while vacationing in the area. We opted to eat indoors since it was so warm outside but their outdoor area was equally nice and the had it covered and fans going. We sat at a high table in the bar area and opted for a few appetizers to share. Started with two specialty cocktails which were wonderful! Our appetizers were all great- the Crabcake was full of crab and plated well. Short rib bites were packed with flavor and quite big. The lobster maki roll was done nicely as well. The only caveat I would give is the prices are a little on the higher end for food. The maki roll is considered an entree and was $36. Considering that there isn't a ton of lobster to it, seemed a little steep. This would certainly not stop us from returning and there were many other menu options that looked equally good and interesting we would want to try. I just don't think I would get the Maki roll again. While you don't see it on their website, they do have a nice kids menu which is always helpful. Amazing food and a lot to choose from. Despite the fact that I frequent this restaurant, I can't help but order my two favorite tapas every time I go. These are: Garlic hummus: 10/10 The menu description for this item is- Kalamata and green olive, artichoke heart and roasted red pepper tapenade with extra virgin olive oil and toasted pita bread. The bread is delicious and just slightly toasted, perfect for hummus. The tapenade is fantastic. It is also served with some vegetables to dip, which I really enjoy. Those include celery, cucumber, carrots and cauliflower. Curry Cauliflower: 10/10 The cauliflower is cooked to perfection and the sauce is absolutely amazing every time. Please note that it is a bit spicy. The cooked, sliced onions on top are a nice addition. Nice to have another layer of texture and flavor. read more
