A true hidden gem, this place has a fantastic vibe and excellent service. As a big fan of Peruvian cuisine, I was thrilled by how well this restaurant represented Peru. We tried the ceviche-jalea combo, which was a delightful burst of flavor, and the seafood rice, which was also very tasty. For dessert, we enjoyed the picarones (Peruvian donuts) and Lucuma ice cream. The ice cream was unique and pleasantly not too sweet--I'd never had it before. After getting takeout from several restaurants these last couple of months, this was probably one of the best. I'd be craving Tallerin Saltado which is noodles stir-fried in soy sauce and your choice of protein. I had this once in a Peruvian restaurant in Hollywood and have been craving it since. It was delicious here. I tried at Darwin which they made for me off-menu but it didn't taste as good. Arroz con Mariscos was okay - a shade bland. I will try the ceviche next time. I had a wonderful time! Vivian brought me some roasted corn with the cilantro dip. Really good and different. I ended up having the beef with onions, tomatoes, and rice. I substituted a salad to replace the fries. Kudos to them for not charging extra. It was like having Chinese stir fry but with cilantro and other spices. I ended up purchasing some roasted corn and cilantro dip to take home. I let Vivian know that I would be back. read more

We called before heading to the restaurant to make sure there is dine in and to ensure we do not need a reservation. We were told to come on in and we do not need a reservation. We headed directly there from the Ellenton outlet. However, when we got there, we were turned down. Apparently, there was a big party. When we called, we specifically said we are on our way and asked if we needed a reservation and we were told "no". We live in Tampa, and drove the opposite direction to Sarasota from Elleton mall right after calling. That's a waste of one hour of our time. Not to say they knew we were coming but did not save us a table and turned us down. I don't know what that was about but that is really BAD customer service. I have to admit that I was concerned about the quality of this restaurant because I was judging the plaza it was in. It's next to an adult video store and VCR repair shop, who still watches VHS? Anyhow we walked in and we were the only patrons in the restaurant ""red flag"! However when we were approached by the very friendly gentlemen and given a grand tour of Peruvian dishes complete with pictures we were very comfortable. So we ordered our food, me the steak with cilantro, the wife rice and beans. Everything was pretty awesome and flavorful. I only withhold one star because a tiny fly landed in one of my condiments, if there's one fly there's probably many more in the kitchen. Bathroom wasn't detail cleaned but the food was good enough to overcome my annoyance at these small items. So go here for great food!!! read more

Poor customer service. If you advertise that your restaurant will be open until 10 pm then honor that time. We had the Leche de Tigre (spicy) and delicious-- very flavorful. My better half ordered the Jalea mixta and I ordered the Lomo Saltado. My beef was very tender and juicy-- I dipped the rice and fries in be juice. My bf poured the juice left from the Leche de tigre on the Jalea and it was amazing! Food was mediocre. Owner stated that he caters to local residents when it comes up to main sporting events. What I mean is that my family and I went today to watch the Chile/Peru game. He basically didn't want our business. Let me explain: We were there at 12:00pm for lunch. At the end of our meal we asked the waitress if we could reserve a table because this was the only restaurant we could find that was playing the game. She told us they don't do that but assured us we could come back and find a table, no problem. Cool we thought, everything was great up until then. Imagine our shock when we show up at around (6:30pm), because the game started at 7:30pm and the owner tells us that ALL the tables in the (small) restaurant were reserved. The nerve! We talked the owner and be said "we cater to local residents, and since you're not local we can't give you preference." Of course we were frustrated. This made us not want to ever come back here and taught us one valuable lesson: this restaurant does not care about outsider business. Locals...please go ahead and defend this restaurant. Stumbled upon this place by accident. Not much to look at, it's in a strip mall and the decor is okay. But the service and food shines through. The waitress Dania was VERY helpful, explaining the menu (they have pictures of each dish on the wall.) She got us samples of Chicha Morada, a sweet drink made from purple corn. We were hooked and ordered a pitcher. The soup - Aguadito de pollo, was pretty good. It has some shredded chicken, rice, peas, carrots in a green blended cilantro sauce. We got the Fish Ceviche (swine fish in lime) that was excellent, and Jalea Mixta - a mixture of breaded fish and seafood that was good too. Prices were quite reasonable too, but the service and quality of food was excellent. If you enjoy good food at a hole in the wall, you can't go wrong here. Highly recommend! read more

I was pleasantly surprised to discover Maemi on our recent vacation to the west coast of Florida. All of the food was delicious, and I've eaten at many Peruvian restaurants not to mention also traveling to Peru and tasting the cuisine first hand. We ate the fish ceviche, lomo saltado, pollo a la planca, and salchi papas. Their limeade was amazing. Ordered one for my daughter then ended up ordering one for myself. The kind of place we love! service was excellent and they were super helpful in ordering even showing us pictures and providing recommendations. Food was all excellent. We started with ceviche was was fresh and tasty. The kids got the hot dog which was very good and the calamari that was tender and breaded just right. The main dishes we got were very good. I'm angry right now. I've been driving past this little gem for 3 years and just now trying it! Small, simple and on point! Every bit as good as the Biscayne Blvd joints in Miami. The ceviche was perfect - large portion of shrimp, beautifully delicate whitefish, calamari and mussels. The fried fish was perfectly battered- exceptionally light and crisp and a generous filet. I ordered the anticucho which I never had but it was very delicious and juicy. the pescado sudado was very soft and tender, and the rice is very aromatic. my family ordered some ceviche which was arranged in a very pleasing way and was also very tasty. our waiter was also very attentive and kind, and our food was made immediately and served hot!
