We had a nice lunch here Saturday. I have not eaten here in about a year or two. The ambiance was very nice we sat outside with a nice view of the water and landscape. We were seated quickly and our waiter was very nice throughout the meal. We ordered the signature bread which was soft, chewy and unique compared to your typical restaurant bread, somewhat of an interesting cornbread. I ordered the fish tacos which were very good, the fish was crispy on the outside and thick meaty fish on the inside, we also ordered a mahi mahi fish sandwich with a nice ciabatta bread and a decent piece of mahi placed on some arugula, we had fries with both and they were thick and had a nice crunchy coating on the outside. We arrived early and were seated without a wait. The hostess desk was very accommodating and welcoming. The young woman who walked us to our table was polite, though not especially warm. We were initially seated inside, but it was too cold, so we asked to be moved outside. She didn't seem very pleased about having to reset the table and paused before returning to seat us. However, once outside, the atmosphere was beautiful with a very comfortable breeze. Our server, Lyle, introduced himself, was very friendly and professional. We really appreciated his excellent service and the interesting explanation he shared about the meaning of Jack Dusty. The ambiance was excellent overall. It was relaxing to sit by the bay and enjoy the view and fresh air. As for the food, I ordered the pork belly with sriracha sauce and oil.There was a bit too much sauce, which made the yummy tortilla soggy and spilled into the coleslaw. The pork belly itself was also quite salty. My husband had the avocado eggs Benedict and really enjoyed it. For dessert, the peach cobbler cheesecake was amazing, as was the espresso. While the food itself showed a little potential, it was served cold and appeared to have been sitting for some time. That can make people sick but we felt bad for her. Service was notably inattentive. Took almost an hour to get our bill. They said because of staffing shortages, the experience fell well below expectations. No effort was made to remedy the situation, and we were charged in full despite the issues and inedible food. We ultimately chose to dine elsewhere, where both the cuisine and service were markedly better. As a returning guest of the hotel, this was particularly disappointing. I came here for dinner my first night in Sarasota. The service from start to finish was incredible. The valet service was top notch and the staff/hostess were kind enough to give us a quick tour of the restaurant/lounge so that we could decide where to dine. They had an amazing musician playing the night we came. I'd recommend sitting close to them for relaxing dining music. The food was great. We had the tuna tartar, watermelon salad and rock shrimp cream corn. The tuna tartar was 10/10 for presentation and taste. The watermelon salad was good but I wish the watermelon chunks were a bit colder/more refreshing. The shrimp cream corn was also a 10/10. I loved the sweet taste of corn balanced with the slightly umami shrimp. I also had the pineapple non alcohol drink and it was very light and refreshing. The staff were SO friendly and sat us at a table just for dessert even though it was 7:30 pm on a Friday night. I had a deconstructed s'more that was amazing and my husband enjoyed the peach pie cheesecake. We walked around the grounds after, which were lovely (had we noticed there was waiter service at the outdoor tables down by the pool level, we would have sat out there, but the inside was perfectly nice.) Since this is in the Ritz, a higher level of anticipation and expectations are in place. It has been a few years since we dined here but since it was our anniversary, we were looking for something elevated from the typical mediocre experiences in the area. Typically, we have gravitated to the Ritz in Naples and Amelia Island. The Sarasota Ritz just doesn't measure up to her sister properties. This was reinforced by our recent visit. Valet parking is validated when dining here - very nice, thank you. For a Monday late lunch in off season, it was fairly quiet. We wanted a table by the window so that brought us to the back of the restaurant. The table condition was very poor- it is surprising that it was still in the dining room. At least put a tablecloth on it so the beat up finish would be hidden. The house brown bread shows up in its baking tin and the server takes it out. The bread is more like a muffin- probably great for brunch but for other meals, it did not pair well with savory dishes. Although there were plenty of staff walking around and there were not many diners, the food took about 30 minutes to show up , no one checked on us, it was very slow service. It looked like a Manager and another employee were glued to the front desk area- never circulated. Despite Pellegrino water bottle on our table, no one stopped by to pour it. ( that sounds odd - but this is a Ritz and service should anticipate !) My Aperol spritz was delicious and hubby enjoyed his pinot noir. Hubby ordered the fried green tomatoes appetizer and it had way too much mayo sauce on it. My "deconstructed" tuna poke was yummy, good portion. Server brought wasabi and soy sauce when I asked for it. Here is where the Ritz service exceeded expectations- I had mentioned anniversary in my Open Table reservation and our chosen dessert was complimentary. The coconut sorbet was incredible! I asked for toasted marshmallows since I had noticed it on another dessert item. 2 were added and that was a amazing pairing. Yessss! I knew that the Ritz quality would surface somewhere!! So- overall it was a positive visit but frankly there is not much competition in Sarasota for fine dining. Perhaps that is why this location seems to be below its sister locations. read more

Overall, the ambiance of the Jack Dusty restaurant was really lovely, as one would expect at a Ritz Carlton. But service just wasn't as amazing as I wanted for a special birthday brunch. We arrived on time for our reservation but needed to wait 15 - 20 minutes for a table outside, which was fine, but we got a table off to the side with an obstructed view and it really put a sour start to the meal. All the others waiting ahead of us and behind us each got premium tables, and the hostess knew it was a special occasion for our group. I would have waited even another 5 - 10 minutes to get a better view. I should have said something, but I was trying to be easy. Once seated, our server took a little too long to come over to greet us and offer us drinks. The mimosa was entirely OJ pulp...terrible. The food was all fine, but nothing amazing. Jack Dusty restaurant is located within the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and is indeed in keeping with the standards of a Ritz-Carlton. However, in a very pleasing way it is rather laid back and casual with a pleasing unpretentious comfortable décor. The menu is rather small but encompasses most foods, especially seafood. Beloved and I both decided upon having their whole fried snapper. When it was served it not only looked delicious but to my surprise came with a delicious Puerto Rican pique sauce. I asked them about their sauce and was told it wasn't Puerto Rican. I won't labor on it but I'm sure I'm correct as it looked and tasted exactly as those delicious sauces found along the roadside stands in Puerto Rico and I do not know of any other pique sauce that isn't rooted within any other culinary culture. One very interesting and rather delightful novelty is that they serve you a really delicious maple-tasting bread from a can. I only came here for drinks and not for the food. It's right inside the Ritz-Carlton hotel right by the elevators. I did glance at the menu and was shocked at the price of the food. The only reason why I came here for drinks was due to people drinking after the conference. We didn't get served since no one sat down, and everyone was just gathered at the bar the entire time. I was staying at this hotel for a work conference. The ambiance was nice, but they needed more people at the bar since this is the only bar at the hotel. I asked for the drink list, and they gave me an extensive list. I ordered the buzzed Bee's and the white sands. The drink I preferred was the white sands as it had lychee puree in it.
