Always a great spot to visit with my girl! Usually a wait but don't stray or go too far once you place your name on the list, people are always filtering in and out. Strong drinks and bartenders are friendly and their attentiveness is refreshing. Inside is quaint dark and moody atmosphere. They have a light menu but fries are on it! Top hidden gem in Sarasota in my opinion. Check out this joint in the alley! read more

Came here on a Thursday night for their boozy Bingo and totally enjoyed my experience. As I was looking for this restaurant based on their address and couldn't find it, a restaurantaur noticed our confusion and said make a right and go down the alleyway. Oh wow, this is going to be interesting. Off we went and yes, there was the speakeasy bar we were looking for. We walked in and were like, OK, this is cool. It was dark with a cool vibe and friendly service. We had a hard time deciding on what cocktail to get because they had so many that looked great. My friend got the espresso martini and I got the Thin Mint. Both were very good. Had a ton of fun playing bingo too. Would definitely go back read more

A fun little speakeasy in the alleyway behind the Drunken Poet Cafe. Serving up super unique drinks and some snacks. The only thing is.. I feel like for being an "alchemy lab" they'd rotate their specialty drinks more often. I've been there a few times over the last 2-3 years and the menu is unchanged. They do have an extra holiday menu during the season, but other than that, the menu has remained completely the same. Maybe that's just me being picky, but I don't feel like there is a huge variety of different drinks that you would assume an alchemist bar would have. Service is hit or miss. You either get a really great server or you get one who doesn't pay attention to you at all. read more

This place has the best bartenders ever!!! They each play a part in why I look forward to the weekend

Had 1 naughty and 1 nice shot: The nice was lighter and acidic Naughty was dark and anise flavored It all depends on what the particular bartender wants to make. It's up to them They're great mixologist so it'll be something fun and creative This is great spot for unique special craft cocktails I'm waiting to come back and try the cereal with spiked milk Always great ambiance, especially the hidden back room read more

This great speakeasy bar in downtown Sarasota offers a back door alley entrance, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. It has a cool vibe and inviting atmosphere, with friendly service and innovative cocktails. The extensive menu features some very unique drinks with fun names and great combinations, the food was nice as well. It's a good option for happy hour, pricier than other good bars downtown, but still a good option. We will come back and try more of their cocktails! read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE .... a Speakasy is far from this place the Bartenders are clueless Borderline on the ... other Spectrum....... spent 20mins in line for some kind of cocktail the So called educated 'girl' bartender who had to re make 2 Vodka Sodas had absolutely no desire to actually make a cocktail The so called Manager was as useless as he looked. if your looking for a speakeasy or just a regular cocktail lounge Pangea is not it.... sad because it USED to be a great spot NO MORE read more

Well I was taken here to experience the establishment and I have some mixed thoughts on this bar/restaurant at this point. First of all you must enter through an alley, mind you I get it, speakeasy feel right. When you enter you see some interesting decor and once you enter the bar it is a dark, but a cozy atmosphere. The one thing that gets me is I really can't tell if it's outdated or dirty etc, but all good I guess. Be prepared for some small seating areas. Our waiter was a very nice guy who made a handful of recommendations that were very helpful. We had 3 different cocktails and all of them were very good. We also ordered the hummus appetizer, a chicken sandwich x2 and a burger with fries. The hummus was really good and the small toasts that came with it were very good as well (wish there were more of those), it also came with cucumbers and carrots ( not my favorite with hummus, but I'm sure some people that are into crunchy veggies will be happy). The burger was pretty decent and that goes for the chicken sandwich as well, they might not blow your mind, but for this type of bar worth ordering if you're in the mood. Now the French fries were really tasty and thin, yes I ate them all. Overall I need to try this place a couple more time's to really see what it's about. Yes I will go back in the future to try it again and see about consistency. Food 7.5 Atmosphere 7.5 Service 8.0 read more

This place was not bad. I planned my trip using ChatGPT and the app recommended this place multiple times so I figured why not? Getting there was a bit difficult bc it was in the back of an alley. They had fall drinks that were unique but honestly just ok? Good thing is that they had happy hour so the drinks were half price. The truffle popcorn was good but kinda pricy. It was nice to check out but I'm not sure we will be back. read more

This is a super fun small bar. We went for my daughter's 21st. Unique and delicious drinks with a great overall vibe.

Can't believe this place has been open since 2010 and I just came here in 2023 for the first time... This is probably my new favorite place for a cocktail in Sarasota! It's pretty easy to find since the door has the name of this place in big letters, and there is NO password -- so if someone asks you for a password, they're just messing with you! When you enter, there is a cool sitting room that is decorated in a cool way. There's two big eyes on the wall that gave me Great Gatsby vibes. There's also I believe two bathrooms connected to the sitting room. To enter the bar, you need to just open the door next to the bookcase, part the curtain (walk straight) and you'll enter the bar. The space is not too small / not too big. We were able to find a free table for five people easily. Our server was Camila (or Camilla?) who was awesome. I love that they use the Toast machines here which make it very easy to put a card down / pay when you're done. The menu is also fun -- we came in December so there were plenty of winter cocktails. I loved the cereal ones (the spiked milk with the Frosted Flakes was good), as well as the Chai cocktail, and the Ginger something (had espresso in it). The fries were also delicious!!! If you like skinny, crispy fries then this place does them well, and it's a good sized portion as well. Loved my first visit so much that I'm coming back in a few days for Christmas Eve! read more

I think it would be fun to find the Speakeasy's all over, and it's great we have one in Sarasota,FL! I love that you can only get to it from the dark alley and when you walk in, it's a room and then have to go through the "bookcase"! I've been here several times. We've always had great service! I like trying their seasonal drinks made by the Mixologists! I love when they explain the reasoning behind the drink they made for that season! Also, always fun to have the Bowl of Cereal! read more

I came here with a small group on a Tuesday night. The drinks were alright. We also tried the Sir Sazerac and Blue Ridge Mountains. I'm not sure if it was the typical for that night as it was not really busy until a little after we came in but the drinks were not balanced. I like the menu concept but I wish it was better executed. read more

Pangea is one of my favorite hidden bars in Sarasota. I love who it feels like a secret you are not suppose to tell. Their cocktails with cereal are a favorite for me but everything I have tried has been delicious. The service is decent which is tough because they draw quite the crowd. read more

It's a speakeasy... entrance through the alley, my kind of place. Rich blue walls with parts of exposed brick. Unexpectedly, they have the best pistachio crème brûlée I have ever had in my life. Mom was picky about her champagne and they were more than happy to accommodate very friendly service. read more

I recommended Pangea to some friends who were having a Girls day out in Sarasota and had called me to ask where the "speakeasy" was that I had told them about. They later called and asked me to join them. My past memories are from a couple of years ago and were of a super fun and quirky bar with outrageous drink options. When I got there (true it was a typically slower day) the place was nearly empty and the little lights that used to be strung around the room were gone and the menu seemed much shorter and not as "special". When I asked our server about the decor, her immediate answer was "new owners". This was certainly one of the more fun and interesting bars in Sarasota in the past but now it's just "Different". You can tell from my previous review of 5 years ago. I hope the new owners will make an effort to bring back the cool and wild atmosphere that used to be the norm at Pangea. Otherwise, it will just be another place to go with a difficult to find entrance (part of the fun). read more

This speakeasy's entrance is located in the ally. There is usually a wait to dine in. You have to knock on the door and wait for a staff to get you on the wait list if they are busy. They have small bites and crafted cocktails. Their lychee cocktail is a classic and their sir sazerac is tough, but in a good way. Thier French fries with the roasted poblano aioli is a great snack. Fries come out hot and crispy. Very dim lighting with great tunes in the background. Due to the high demand and depending on your party, you'll be sitting with other patrons, so be ready t and have your social hat on. read more

I always love this place and it was recently renovated by the owners so the space has been upgraded. You won't find a more unique/fun cocktail menu around town! The only negative is that now it's been discovered and isn't as secret as it used to be. The bathrooms and back entry area need to be updated. Service is always great though and the servers are always willing to give suggestions. Blue Mule is my forever fave cocktail! read more

We all had a good time, the show was wonderful, couldn't always see everything because of the layout. Was expecting more of a show and feel the show ticket price was excessive. Our burgers and drinks were amazing as always, thank you guys read more

10 out of 5 star rating! This place is tucked away and the entrance is located on the backside alley of the strip of bars. When you first walk in, it does not seem like much, but as you make it farther into the bar, it transforms into this magical speakeasy! The staff are super friendly and so attentive and the sheer talent for them to be able to captivate your attention while making your drinks is phenomenal. This place is so awesome, we went twice back to back nights on our trip. All the drinks there are amazing but my favorite was the Lychee Cocktail and the burger and fries were also delicious! We ordered that both nights too! Make sure you add this to the list of spots to visit when in the downtown Sarasota area!!!! read more

Great spot to go with friends or on a date to enjoy the low key relaxing chilled atmosphere with some awesome well-made drinks. Quite a refined selection and some classic favorites. The adventure is finding this hidden gem. Truly appreciated the attentive server and the expertise of the bartender. This is an adult only environment that welcomes you and allowed my friends to catch up, laugh, drink and be grateful to be out on a Sunday night. A gem in Sarasota. read more

One of the few late night bars in downtown Sarasota. Has a unique speakeasy back door entrance in an alleyway so may take a minute to find. Theres usually a staff member waiting by a door in the alley so look for them Pros: cool interior decor. The halloween decorations were up and added an extra level of immersion. The food options were very unique and the fries we got were so flavorful and crispy. They had a wide variety of drink options including cocktails and their famous mil cereal drinks. Cons: the space is a but smaller so you are often rubbing elbows with the people at the next table Overall, great place to come get drinks and quick snacks late at night while you are downtown. read more

Interesting spot. If you don't know where it is - in a back alley - it's near impossible to find. The vibe is cool, the space is dark and mysterious ... I was all in. The drink menu was very eclectic. I could immediately see why "alchemy" was in the name. We were there during Happy Hour which made all drinks 1/2 price. This was a good thing because they were pricey. The table got several different ones - a handful which were made table side - but it took awhile. This turned out to be the theme of the evening. Cool different cocktails? Awesome. Taking over 20 mins to make them? Not so much. ... and no they were not busy. Everything took awhile. The sandwich I ordered took over an hour and I had to remind them twice. We had to chase down the waitstaff more than a few times. The second round of drinks took another 30 mins after waiting 30 to order. Asked for a box which never did arrive. Had to go after the check simply to pay because our server went behind the bar and stayed there. We were there 3 hours for 2 rounds of drinks and snacks. Were the drinks innovative and delicious? Yes. Was the food tasty and fresh? Also yes. Was the service lagging to the point of being ignored and having to find someone? HUGE YES. I rarely leave a "meh" review but the positives only slightly outweighed the truly lackadaisical service. The waitstaff was friendly and made great suggestions but they would disappear into the ether never to be seen again. read more

Stumbled into the place. I have no idea how we found it. It a true hidden gem. I ordered a Boozy Cereal Bowl. I picked the Fruit Loops bowl. It consists of gin, aperitivo, and milk. It comes with a mini box of fruit loops to pour over. Such a cute and cool drink! read more

Great drinks, friendly bartenders. We showed up on a Thursday night about 9:30 and the place was almost empty. Ordered non-menu classics, whiskey sour, sazerac, and Manhattan and all were very well made. Vibes are cool. Felt very authentically speakeasy. read more

I found this place on yelp and the store front was adorable and closed. Then I scrolled through the pictures and saw the entrance was into the back alley so off we went. We didn't wait long before we were let into this place. We trusted our bartender aka master mixologist to make us a beverage off the menu with our liquor of choice. We opted for an old fashioned with a new twist. There was early grey and Lavender and it was amazing. We also had the crème brûlée which was also quite wonderful. The only improvement this place can benefit from is the bathroom situation. read more

This place is AWESOME!! What a gem. The menu is super unique but inclusive enough that there is a cocktail everyone will like. The food menu is small but pretty novel as well, with things like duck egg rolls and rabbit tacos. We came mainly for drinks but ended up ordering egg rolls and cajun fries - both were awesome and the poblano sauce with the fries was terrific. The coolest cocktails were easily the spiked cereals. One of us got Frosted Flakes with almond milk and it was certainly boozy. I really liked the Blue Mule and the Not Michael's Twist, while others loved the Sir Sazerac. We also had a seasonal drink called the Birdie Beets which literally had beets in it but was so good. We talked about our experience here for days after, so it's definitely worth a trek through the dark alley to stop by! read more

This place is absolutely overrated. Its quality has seriously declined since the Bar Manager and Creative Director Brad sold. I've been coming to this place for about 8 years or so and the only thing that redeems it is the good food that comes from the kitchen at what is now Marcel next door. I never saw the need to leave a review while Brad was the creative director, in spite of mixed experiences with the revolving door of bartenders that seems to go through this place. Having been in the service industry myself for 20+ years and being well traveled, you can trust my assessment. I've even given this spot several chances after the Change in direction they took after Brad sold and it's been a downward spiral ever since. They even seem to ruin drinks that were foolproof crowd pleasers back in the day. This has probably been my most underwhelming experience at a "craft cocktail" bar ever. The cherry on top which is what led me to finally post a review on here is the automatic gratuity that the female bartender opted to add onto my bill without notifying me. Keep your eyes peeled Yelpers and avoid this subpar bar at all costs. I highly recommend you choose Bar Hana by Kojo or Kojo for some good libations and no sneaky behavior from the waitstaff in terms of automatic gratuity being added to your check without being advised. read more
