Returned to try happy hour on a holiday weekend and glad we did. Totally different experience. We bellied up to the bar and there were just a handful of patrons. Service was attentive and we tried their smoked fish dip as an appetizer(mahi mahi). This was good. Our drinks (vodka and sangria) were generous pours and satisfying. My shrimp and grits was very good and filling. Given the early hour and lack of patrons, there was no ambient noise. Our server confided in us that on crowded nights, she had trouble hearing what guests wanted. The restaurant will be addressing the acoustics situation shortly (fingers crossed). Overall, a completely different experience- one that gets 2 thumbs up and will see us more often in season. 4.5 stars read more

We arrived at 5:30 with no reservation and were quickly seated outside by choice. As it got close to sunset the noseeums appeared. You might want to consider that when you choose your seating. I ordered blackened mahi tacos and my wife ordered the blackened Mahi Reuben. We both got the cucumber tomato salad and it was outstanding. We thought the entrees could have used more seasoning because they tasted plain with a hint of blackening. I would have put more blackening on the fish but I understand how some may not like it that seasoned. I will give Lo Key another chance in the future. Give them a try you might like it. read more

Outstanding! We've been waiting for this place to open... so happy that they are. Clean, bright and well taken care of. Staff was great. Our server, Kari was so friendly and enjoyable. Food was delicious. Ordered a side of hush puppies- a nice sized order and they were loved by all at the table. Crispy outside- nicely seasoned in. I live a good hush puppy! Fried ribs were tasty- and different. Fall off the bone meat- with a little crispness on outside. loved both the bbq and mustard sauce (asked to have both...) The chicken wraps came in 2 tacos- with a nice piece of chicken on each- curry dressed with carrots and jicama.. refreshing and filling. The forager salad was delicious as well. A nice piece of salmon - cooked to order. Loved the beets, pistachios, feta and greens... I added 3 grilled shrimp as well...nice pieces grilled- tasty. They have a happy hour so come in and enjoy your time. Patio is well protected if there is a chill or too much sun- they move the shades as needed and have warmers as well. Here's what you need to know: + Vibe: Super friendly, island neighborhood vibes with an expansive outdoor porch space. Servers are super friendly as well! + Food: As I mentioned we went two days in a row and were surprised to see that the menu truly evolves every day due to the fresh catches of the day. We loved being able to try some delicious coastal catches prepared in a variety of different ways. Other standouts include the crabby poutine (truly chef's kiss) and their super creamy cheesy grits. + Open Times: Lo' Key Island Grille is open till TEN which is unheard of in sleepy LBK. It was amazing to have a great, casual meal without the hassle of leaving the area. Great new option on Longboat Key! Lo' Key presents great food at a great price (by LBK standards). Menu was a nice mix of "normal" food options, vacationer-friendly seafood, and spectacularly executed unique items (baby Artichokes burrata were amazing). Menu would allow you to bring an unadventurous Midwestern relative and a foodie and keep everyone happy! We got fresh oysters, the poke tower, artichokes & burrata, corn riblets (elote), and shrimp & grits. All portioned and flavored well. Indoor, outdoor, and bar seating plus a nice covered patio give lots of seating options. Ambience is truly low-key, which is a nice alternative to some stodgier places on LBK. Service was on the slow side (and my wife's first time it was SLOW), but the place is still new and makes up for it with great food. $6-7 draft beers, good mixed drinks and an all-day Sunday happy hour make this a place we'll definitely return to. read more

Do not walk, you need to run to this establishment. This is a new restaurant to the island, opening in January (so we were told by the server). We come to Longboat Key every year and were excited about a new restaurant. First, if you aren't looking for it you are going to miss it! It is very non descript and easy to pass. Also, it is a very casual setting and absolutely spotless. It is not pretentious or bougie. But. The. Food. We had to go a few times before I could justify a five star review. Our servers were amazing and super helpful. But if you ask for recommendations they will provide so many that you can't decide, but no worries. You can't go wrong here. Our first visit we order the blackened shrimp tacos and the grouper tacos. When the server said the food would show up fast ahead she was not kidding! The food was hot and looked amazing! The shrimp were large and cooked perfectly. They were plump and firm. It was paired with a delicious jalapeño crème sauce that had just a hint of kick. The grouper tacos were much the same: nice big chunks of fish so you got a nice hearty meal. The sides were just as delicious as the main course. I had the cucumber and tomato salad. It had a bright flavorful vinaigrette and it tasted liked the veggies had been picked that day. The collard greens were to die for. Cooked to perfect! Iykyk. On our second visit we shared the shrimp and grits. We wanted to lick the plate. So much flavor! Again, nice big shrimp full of flavor! But let's talk about the grits. Pimento cheese grits. And they must have been whipped because they were so light and fluffy. My new favorite grit combo. We are going back again for dessert before we go home! Can't wait to try the rum cake! read more

Wow what a very pleasant surprise. Decided to try some place new. Open less than a year. Pleasant and friendly staff. Outside and indoor seating. For sports fan multiple tv screens. we were searching for some nearby vegan options and luckily there were 2 items marked as vegan on the menu that sounded good to us. i was thinking about getting the far east veggie but ended up straying from my vegan diet and ordered the forager with no feta. the salmon on the forager wasn't seasoned at all and the whole dish desperately needed salt. the house vinaigrette looked appealing but lacked flavor and the bed of greens was sparse. it was no where near worth $28. my partner got the vegan plantain curry which was the better of the two dishes. the plantains and white beans were an interesting twist on a curry. the plantains were a delicious addition. it wasn't served with a grain of any sort like rice, so it wasn't very filling. to drink i enjoyed the coconut cooler - coconut water, cream of coconut, lemon juice and pineapple puree. it was a nice balance of creamy, sweet, and citrusy. read more

Ordered soup as my side with the red snapper sandwich (catch of the day). Spent $28 on the sandwich and the order for takeout was repeated to me including everything. Somehow they didn't include the soup which they read back to me before placing the order. They didn't charge or include the soup. So when I added it after the fact and had to walk back to the restaurant they recharged me for it, I also didn't get any side since they were supposed to upgrade the side for the soup. By the time I got the situation rectified my $28 fish sandwich was cold. Bad business. $50 for a burger and a cold fish sandwich, over $60 after they added my soup. Not happy. read more

We were so excited to try this restaurant, been following them on Facebook since I saw them Under construction last year. The food was very disappointing and the waitress was always missing... the burger legitimately tasted microwaved, it was sold as a "smash burger" but the burger wasn't smashed at all. It was worse than a stadium burger. The salad with salmon had very little flavor. It was much better than the burger though... we got the fish charcuterie shareable plate and that was enough for a 4 year child maybe. I would maybe try one more time in hopes that we just went there on an off day. read more
