Interesting place.... The exterior of the building looks like a sketchy dive bar.... most would drive right by it. The interior is tidy but spartan; not a lot in terms of vibe or décor. Your view is the parking lot and freeway. As others have mentioned: the prices are quite high for the amount of food you get. I had two apps (1 crab cake and 1 portobello mushroom), plus 1 cocktail, and 1 dessert: Total was $52.43 before tip. Not highway robbery, but also not a bargain. (Note bene: they calculate tip on the total including taxes, so you are paying tip on tax. This is unethical.) The food I had was very good, the drink was excellent (but small), and the service was also very good.... I would have given 4 stars but for the prices. read more

This is a dive bar, with an eclectic menu, including gluten free options. The shrimp on the shrimp BLT was cooked perfectly. Nicely seasoned and fresh. My chicken was cooked and seasoned perfectly, but the portion was too small for $21 dollars, a single 6 ounce chicken breast with rice and beans. I think the food is cooked well, my recommendation is to revisit portion sizes. read more

Disappointed with Pricing and Quality Despite Friendly Staff We had a unique opportunity to go out on a boat and catch our own fish, and the mate mentioned that Slicker's in Cortez, FL would cook our fresh catch for $12 per person. That sounded like a great way to end the day, so we headed over. We were warmly greeted by the bartender and chose to sit at the bar. She confirmed that they do cook your catch and said it comes with two sides. We placed our orders--my partner got a bean dish and cucumber salad, and I chose mac and cheese with grilled potatoes. When the food arrived, we were surprised by the portion sizes. Each plate had three small pieces of fish, and the sides were underwhelming. My mac and cheese appeared to be Kraft (or something very similar), and the grilled potatoes were simply a baked potato sliced and lightly grilled--nothing special. The chef kindly came out to check on us, and we appreciated that personal touch. However, the real shock came when we received the bill: $34.99 per person. We asked about the pricing, since we were expecting around $12, and while the chef was very polite and professional, he explained that was the standard price and there was nothing he could do. He even offered us a round of drinks or to bring out the owner, but at that point, we just wanted to leave. We understand there may have been a miscommunication about the pricing, and perhaps the mate we spoke to was mistaken. But paying $35 per person for a meal where we brought the main ingredient ourselves--and the sides weren't even made in-house--felt extremely disappointing and overpriced. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and we appreciate that, but unfortunately, the value just wasn't there. We left feeling let down, especially after such a great day on the water. read more

This place could be driving by easily, but you would be missing out on some great food. We were able to be seated quickly and they were nice to shift around some tables so we didn't feel cramped and there was room for others to sit at the booths around us. I opted for the beef Bradenton which I really enjoyed. It is on the small plate menu which was perfect for me since I was not super hungry. The kids shared the petite filet and they both enjoyed the cook and flavor of the steak. The service was a bit slow, but super friendly. I can't say enough truly amazing things about this place! I called last minute in the middle of a tropical storm and they were able to accommodate 20+ people for my rehearsal dinner. The [Kraft] Mac and cheese is straight out of the box. Took 2 hours to get food. Crab cakes are the slimmest things I've ever seen. The wings came out cold. The only good thing was the octopus. This is def a place to get drinks, NOT food. The mojo park dinner was served in a basket. It was a mess. 4 people in the kitchen but food took forever. I don't know how they deal with a packed house (it must be why the place was empty). Ambiance was dead. Do not recommend for dinner. read more

Great place for lunch or dinner right by the beaches. The menu is like nothing you're going to find in the area. The word fried is nowhere to be found on the menu. When you drive up to this place, you think that there is no way this is the place that has great reviews. From the outside it looks like a complete dive . Once you get inside the ambience builds. It's part sea shack, bistro and dive bar. It was our anniversary, so we made a reservation. When we walked in and said our name, we were shown to a table that had a reserved sign on it. That was really cool and a nice touch, even though the restaurant was pretty empty (8pm on a Sat night?!?!?). We started out with two of their signature drinks, the smoked old fashioned, done with rum, and my wife had the coquina. My smoked old fashioned was simply amazing. Smoked at the table and in the top 5 drinks I've ever had. I tried my wife's coquina and it was so good as well. Our server was really good and honest about food and drink opinions. We ordered a cheese plate to munch on while looking at the menu. A nice presentation of cheddar, havarti, and house made sage cheese with some toasted bread, olives, candied nuts were really good . Next came the beef Bradenton and the soup of the day. The beef Bradenton lacked flavor and the beef was over done. A miss on this . The soup of the day was a mozzarella cheese soup with broccoli. Sooo different, unique, and excellent. Every bite was delicious . For main courses, I got the arroz congri and mojo pork. We live in Southeast Florida and there's always a debate about Miami Cuban food vrs Tampa area Cuban food. I'm biased to southeast Florida Cuban food, this version of congri and mojo marinated pork was really really good . Pork was amazingly tender and moist . The congri hit the spot. The side of mango and papaya really upped the level of the dish, My wife got the shrimp gambitto. The waitress told us it was the most popular dish. I thought it was good, but not amazing . Pasta was a bit over cooked and the dish was very oily. It had great flavor though. For dessert we tried the key lime pudding . It would have been much better had it been served in a graham cracker shell or topped with graham cracker crumbs. It needed that graham cracker texture to balance out the creamy ness of the key lime pudding . It was just ok to be honest . Overall I'd say this place is a huge hit if you order correctly. I am giving credit for the really good service and the risk the chef is taking with some of these dishes. You can tell real thought goes into the menu. read more

Small plates ordered were spicy octupus and a dozen oysters. You should definitely order the octupus. Delightful! Entrees included shrimp BLTs, cuban and mojo pork. All dishes were well enjoyed. Just a three star experience. It is amazing how people are impressed by food nowadays. The service started out great, and went to hell. Had to wait forever for the check. Based on all the yelp reviews, I was really hoping for more out of this place. But, no. A lot of restaurants think they're creative by using special ingredients and experimenting with good standard dishes and their creativity basically ruins the food. The shrimp gambito was nothing special. Simply spaghetti, with chili oil and lots of red pepper flakes and shrimp toss together. The polenta once again overdone trying to be something it's not. The one thing that was decent was the Caesar salad. But it was very wet and soggy flavor was good though. I won't be going back here. We stumbled upon Slicker's while trying to find a place off the island that didn't have a 3 hour wait. I'm so glad the long waits drove us past Slicker's and we stopped because this place was AWESOME It started with the staff complimenting my boyfriend's shirt as soon as we walked through the door, so I knew this place was friendly. We were seated and ordered a couple of cocktails - the Key Lime Colada and Coquina Dusk. Both cocktails were excellent. The Key Lime Colada tasted exactly like a piece of key lime pie in a glass and Coquina Dusk was fruity with a little tang, just the way I like my cocktails. Everything tasted so fresh and not syrupy at all. We followed those cocktails with the Rolland with the Foamies and Blood Orange Cosmo, both recommendations from our server. She didn't steer us wrong because they were both stellar. We're from Houston, which is known for being a great food town and I'll say that the cocktails at Slicker's can absolutely hang with the best! We also ordered the cheese board appetizer and patatas fritas to snack on and both were very tasty. We followed our snacks and cocktails with dessert - the chai latte creme brulee which is hands down one of the tastiest desserts I've ever had. It was just the right level of spice, perfectly caramelized top, and comes with sliced strawberries. You HAVE to try it with the strawberries!!! I can't say enough good things about this place. First time Ive been there since it was O'Shucks...decor blah nothing exciting in there to see lighting terrible. Bar area, unimpressive. Drinks expensive. Service ehhh. Excellent dinner! This place is a hidden local gem. All the locals came in to watch the hockey game tonight. After calling a few local restaurants on AMI with no luck, we decided to drive to Cortez and give Slicker's a try and we are SO GLAD that we did. My husband had the blackened Grouper sandwich and said that it was his favorite meal thus far on our vacation. It came with potato salad which he was not a fan of, but he said the sandwich was amazing. I had the Shrimp Gambitto and it was Excellent as well. Whoa! This place is special. Out of towners we read the yelp reviews and gave it a try over the countless dockside restaurant offering the water side views. And boy was it a great decision. While it's nothing fancy from the outside the food was the star of the show. With a table of 11, everyone raved how good their meal was. I got the shrimp gampino which was one of the best italian dishes I've eaten in a very long time (this is coming an italian who knows good italian food too!). Someone else got the octopus which they said was super fresh and flavorful. The flat bread pizza was great too.
