Place has been fully rebuilt after hurricane damage. Highlights are lots of great tables with views of sunsets over the Gulf of America and world class service by Chris who was hustling taking care of so many in the heat and doing it with a smile on his face. Nicely done! The views of the water and dolphins are amazing around sunset. Food: Decent in my most recent visit. The fish grouper tacos can be fried, grilled or blackened. The meat was huge, not just scraps like at some places but large pieces that barely fit in the taco shell. The toppings had hot peppers that overpowered the taste. The provided green sauce was also a bit spicy but comes on the side so you can apply just the right amount or none at all. At $30 this was a bit steep for tacos with a scoop of rice. My friend had grilled Red Snapper that was good. At $38 this is near the top range of filet pricing. Alcohol: I tried the "Meet Your Bahama Mama" which was nicely prepared @ $12. My friend ordered a custom drink with DOUBLE shot that was properly made but wasn't entirely finished. It was a bit more subdued vs the Mama. I tried it and couldn't tell there was two shots... $15 for the later. Water: they don't offer tap water, instead charging $2 for bottled water. One star off for this. I was finished with my cocktail early and sat the next hour with nothing to drink. Parking: free across the street in the lot on the north side. However there are numerous trailers blocking parking spots and others are labeled "compact" so when it gets busy you might need to pay at the adjacent lot. On a Tuesday in the offseason there were free spots available. The restaurant also has a large area under a tiki roof that is really beautiful with numerous TVs playing sports. This area has huge ceiling fans keeping things cooler than the tables out near the water. One star off for a super bad fly problem that occurs when your food arrives. We spent an hour waving our hands over our plates. At times there were ten flies trying to land on the food. We asked if they had the fly fans some places have, but none are available. As bad as this is why haven't they invested in some of these battery powered fans that really work well? Amazon sells battery and rechargeable versions for $6 each. Total for 2 entrees, 2 alcoholic drinks & 1 water with 20% tip: $126. Yikes! Justifies my 3 star rating. They also hit you with a 3% credit card charge. Ridiculous for a place already charging high prices. Just screams cheap nickle and diming. The current Yelp score for this restaurant is just over 2 stars. Our experience was better thanks to Chris and the amazing sunset. read more

The Kokonut Hut is exactly the kind of beachside spot you hope to find on vacation. We were seated right away and scored a table at the edge of the beach. The location is hard to beat, with beautiful views of the water. We ordered the Grouper Bites and the Anna Maria salad. It was so good. Traveled all day, got settled in a nice condo. Went to the beach for sunset which was fantastic. Saw lights down the beach and walked there. We had the Mermaid Lemonade, Arancini Bites and Coconut Shrimp. While both were good the Arancini Bites were by far the star!! Absolutely delicious and worth the price. If you decide to go here be sure to have this dish. I may, like us, have you wanting more. We sat outside a covered tiki hut style. This is the place to eat if you want food, beach views, and good vibes. The food is good, but the vibes are what makes this place so special. The cold drinks, music, and tiki hut feel. The location itself is beautiful, it is right on the beach, seating right next to the sand. We only stopped in for a drink or two since it was 8:00pm and closing time was 10:00pm. We wanted to sit near the ocean as we are from Minnesota and we don't get to experience this often. We were told by the bartender that we could choose any seating and that she would send a waitress over. We chose a seat near the beach, close to a few other tables of customers. A waitress walked over shortly after with menus and silverware and asked what we would like to start with to drink. We mentioned to her that we were only going to be ordering drinks. She proceeded to grab the menus and silverware, rolled her eyes and said "No food then" and walked away. Both my husband and I looked at each other stunned both thinking the same thing. Did we annoy her? We chose a seat close to others so as to not make her run around the restaurant, we were not going to be much work as we were just getting a few cocktails. We were really put off by this. I ordered "Kokonut Hut Sunset Malibu bucket" and my husband ordered a 'Florida Tea" both drinks were good. My husband then ordered a Hurricane and it was made with a TON of sweet and sour, to the point that the few sips he hand made him feel sick. We would not be back. read more

3 of us came here to grab a light lunch on the beach. They have a really nice setup with alot of tables under a pavilion and umbrellas to give you nice shade. We ordered just a bunch of appetizers to eat. The coconut shrimp, grouper bites, chips and dip, and calamari. I have to say all was cooked excellent and really nice sized portions. You could tell the seafood was fresh and I highly recommend the grouper bites. The service was fast and enjoyable. Went with a party of 12 for a birthday celebration. We parked in the parking lot and some random guy in a fishing shirt and flip flops started pressing my 17 year old brother asking if we had any beach chairs or towels or any beach supplies while I backed into my spot. We asked "why so many questions we are just here for a bite to eat?" Apparently he didn't like that and proceeded to make it known that he was the so-called Owner. He then said he was denying us service at the restraunt and he was going to call the police to get us arrested (lord knows what for). He then proceeded to raise his voice and step up to 2 people invading their personal space and creating a hostile environment. At the host table, they called for a party of 12 and we had to let them know we were no longer interested in eating there because the owner was acting a fool on a power trip. Lastly, he mocked a member of the party who made a comment in Spanish which was definitely fueled by racism. I would say the owner is an absolute POS but I have my high doubts that it was not actually the owner. No owner would ever dress/act like that on their own property haha. read more

Several months later I read a review from guy who experienced the same situation so I believe it's the bartenders usual operational practice. The view of the ocean was very nice. My waiter was a polite guy and that's where it ends. We ordered three mixed drinks, coconut shrimp, and a grilled blackened chicken sandwich. Wow we got the shrimp and that's what it was shrimp on plate, my chicken sandwich came not really blackened (maybe a light sprinkle of seasoning) with Swiss cheese barley melted, the chicken breast had a lot of chewy cartilage or whatever thru out, the chicken breast seemed like something you would buy in a freezer, bacon hard as a rock, and to top it all off thick Demi glaze on top?? Wow I think this chicken sandwich might have been one of the worst I ever had. Now my guest wow ordered the shrimp, we'll let's just say by the time we were on our way home yesterday evening it was a nightmare, had to be food poisoning for sure and we ate nothing else that day. Very very sad evening, I'm not sure what's taking place there hygienic wise or in the kitchen, but wow!! The mixed drinks we had were not even close to a hit, weak and very expensive. For the shrimp, sandwich, and 3 drinks $90, very pricey, to be honest I never looked at the bill breakdown I just paid and I still tipped the waiter good anyway because I'm sure it's not his fault. I will 100% never enter this establishment again and I will never recommend it to anyone I know. What shame, such a great location. I unfortunately had a couple bad weekends in regards to eating out. I've been going here for years and supported them during the hurricane. They greatly increased the price of their food and the quality has gone done. The prices are ridiculous. The real deal breaker was the food. Coconut shrimp came out over fried and dark colored, coconut rice was cold, as well as the fresh vegetables that consisted of cabbage, collards and 3 blueberry sized carrots. Fried shrimp plate ordered by another guest in our party also had cold rice and fresh vegetables. 3rd guest in our group ordered a blackened grouper sandwich that was also cold, maybe undercooked? After 10 mins of trying to flag our server down to let him know the food came out cold and we didn't want the sandwich at this point, he said ok I'll talk to the manager to take the sandwich off the bill (as this was the one item that we weren't willing to consume anymore of) and walked away. He immediately comes back to our table and requests to take the sandwich away for "his manager to look at it". He came back with a basket of fries for her dinner. On the menu is shows a beautiful Lox bagel however when it came it was dissembled and you had to build it yourself for $20. The grits were so disgusting, watered down and no flavor, even salt wouldn't help. Then we also had a pregnant woman who ordered first, she ordered a fruit bowl with honey and tajin.
