5 stars on customer service. Per the man of the house, the men's restroom is 1 star. Matt brought us to our table right away (he met us outside by the main entrance) . Annmarie was our wonderful server and even brought me an in-house made sauce for my salmon burger. It paired well with my salmon sandwich she recommended. My personal bartender was Tanya. Excellent quality seafood. Ordered the shrimp and scallops risotto on my first visit. Seafood quality was excellent even if the risotto was definitely not arborio rice , it reminded me of grits or polenta more than anything. But it was still tasty and I ate it. My family and I visit Anna Maria Island quite often and almost every time we are in the area, someone recommends that we try Hurricane Hanks. On our first day on the island, we decided to grab lunch here. The restaurant is on the smaller side and you seat yourself (this definitely gives the space a more chill vibe, which I like). The inside of the restaurant is nicely decorated with beachy decor. There is a parking lot right outside the restaurant, so no worries there. I ordered a taco salad for lunch. It included lettuce, beef, pico de gallo, sour cream, cheese, and olives, all sitting in a massive tortilla chip bowl. The portion was huge and is most definitely shareable. My dad and sister ordered the grouper sandwich with fries, and they both said it was delicious. My other sister ordered the chicken tender basket, and she enjoyed those as well. Needless to say, the food, atmosphere, and service was great! Portions are quite big and everyone had food leftover, so keep that in mind when ordering. I love that there are two island shops next door to the restaurant. This is the perfect spot for a bite to eat and I can see why so many have told us to try this spot out! read more

This is obviously a LOCAL favorite, however, us "visiting" folks are NOT made welcomed at all! Waited over an hour for a table when we kept seeing folks come up say hi to the hostess and get seated 10-15 minutes later. No Reservations! Finally got seated in a straight row "table" looking at the bar. We couldn't even talk to each other cause it was completely uncomfortable. Asked twice to move to different table to which she said "table was for large groups". Large group was 5 ppl verses 4! One waitress for the entire restaurant!! Order and food took 45 minutes. Ordered the black bean quesadillas with chicken and the chicken came ON TOP of the quesadillas instead of inside. INSANE! Asked for water twice, it never came. This mediocre meal and service took 2 and half hours of our lives. Do Better! read more

Hurricane Hanks is a favorite with locals and visitors alike. It sits in a small strip mall on Holmes Beach and is easy to find. They serve soups, salads, sandwiches, appetizers and entrees in a friendly bar-like atmosphere. We stopped for lunch and I ordered a grouper Reuben ($28). I had my doubts about replacing the corned beef with a piece of fish but the combination tasted just fine. It came with fries which were done just right. We also had their soup and 1/2 sandwich combo ($14) and chose the clam chowder and California club. Both were very good. Portions are generous and Shannon our server was cheerful and efficient. It's not a real big place so there can be a wait to get seated during the busiest times. Prices were on a par with similar restaurants. Parking is free in their lot. read more

Food was good however the service was not. Put our name in for a table was told 30-45 minutes. Gave our phone number and we went into the store next to the restaurant. Received a text saying table was ready however when we responded yes for the table we went to host stand and the gentleman who was there said he called us 2 times (no missed call on my phone) and we waited to be seated. When he was taking us to a table he said well you can sit in these stools at the bar... dirty but we were hungry so we sat down. The 2 bartenders didn't acknowledge us for quite a bit we asked for a menu and that's when she wiped down the bar. We then ordered a drink, we asked can we get a drink and that's where the contact was made. Both of us have been in the service/hospitality industry all of our lives and that's why we only left 18% tip. Unfortunately it was a negative experience for us. We both visit the Island a few weeks a year and this will not be a place either of us will return. read more

We always visit Hurricane Hanks whenever we are on the island. I love their beer battered everything. Our son was with us this time and ordered the grouper tacos with a Caesar salad on the side. He said it was his favorite meal of the week. It is a super small restaurant that is has a great following of regulars on the island, so be prepared to wait and sit in cramped quarters. Best meal on the island this week. This spot is super small (15 tables???), but they accommodated our group of 8 with no problems. Variety of food ordered at our table (Ribeye, scampi, calamari, fish and chips) and everyone left happy. I ordered the shrimp and scallop risotto. The scallops were so fresh and cooked perfectly! Maybe I ordered wrong. Easily the worst patty melt I've had. Burger had zero seasoning, extremely dry, onions were burnt, maybe a 4oz compared to the 8oz they claimed. Fries were cold. My wife's burger was overcooked, disproportionate fries compared to my meal. Two other people who arrived after us received their food before us too. Not very friendly. This place was awesome! Despite being located in a plaza (a little distance from the high-demand spots along the water's edge) this place delivers! There is sort of a fast turnover here, but thankfully, our waitress, Shannon, did not make us feel rushed as we lollygagged through our couple of beers, appetizer, and then finally dinner. If I could rate this place a 0, I absolutely would. This was the WORST customer experience I have had in my life. We were estimated an hour wait, which is understandable for a small location. What is unacceptable is waiting almost 2 hours and people who came after us, were asked if they wanted outdoor seating and were seated immediately. My family and I would have gladly accepted outdoor seating if it had been an option. We have three small children who waited outside the doors with us the entire time. We asked if we could go to the bar and were told, "It's pretty crowded. I wouldn't." So, we were not allowed inside to buy drinks. Terrible business practice. Once seated, we were rushed to order. We had a great dinner out at local favorite, Hurricane Hanks. While we had a little bit of a wait (relatively small dining room for the business they attract), the wonderful hostess, Mackena, kept us updated and tossed out a few of her favorite menu items. It made us hungrier and anxious to try the fare. Anna Marie (on Anna Maria Island) was our server and helped us navigate the menu. Everything the recommended was great and while I took her recommendation (a Cuban with massive onion rings), my son followed Makena's guidance (fried chicken sandwich). The bacon wrapped scallop appetizer was a tasty choice, washed down with a cold draft beer. The food came out quickly, and we enjoyed the lively dining room, great service, and good food. However, we sat at the bar while waiting for our table, and then offered to move down when a stool opened up, for a family so they could all sit down, but the bartender told us that the bar seats were reserved for diners and had a waitlist. Wanted something different...don't do it. Meat was dry, CLEARLY OLD( from earlier or previous day) and the salad didn't provide any plain salsa. I REALLY wanted this , but I couldn't finish. Told Lisa I was full. My son said the grouper tacos were 7/10...I guess that's good...my wife liked her chicken piccata... So? Don't get things that aren't super popular I guess. We ordered takeout from Hurricane Hanks last weekend while my brother, sister-in-law, and their four kids were visiting us here on Anna Maria Island--and it was a fantastic experience! Everything was packaged perfectly and still hot when we got it home. I had the chicken parm, and it was absolutely amazing! The portion was so generous it lasted me three meals, and it was just as delicious each time. The whole family was impressed with their meals--and that's saying something with four kids in the mix! A big bonus: my sister-in-law is gluten-free, and Hurricane Hanks had plenty of great options for her to choose from. She really appreciated being able to enjoy a delicious meal without worrying about dietary restrictions. Nice hole in the wall bar/restaurant at the front of Anna Maria. If you're looking for a quiet place for a meal, this isn't it. We waited about 30 minutes for a table on saturday night (not a big deal). Our server was friendly & did the best she could given how busy they were. We ordered the fried gouda mac n' cheese bites as an appetizer & they were fantastic. For our entrees we got the Fish and Chips & The Decadent Burger. We arrived and were trying to find a table to sit 12, bottom line is that was not going to work, but the hostess was super kind in trying work out a way for our party to all sit near each other. We ended up going in to eat at separate times, about 5-10 minutes apart. It is a tiny little restaurant, with a bar. As I am not a big seafood lover, I ordered the Original cheeseburger meal and a sweet tea. Or so I thought. The sweet tea was, regrettably, not sweet. Visited 26APR25:: my girlfriend and I came to this area as a weekend get a way. We picked this place solely based off of her sons name, who wasn't with us. She ordered the chicken your way, char grilled, the piece of chicken was a decent size, the brioche bun was good and soft just the chicken lacked flavor. Seemed as though there wasn't salt, pepper or any seasoning. Only could taste the char grilled. Island fries, which are just regular fries the server said they just named it that because we're on an island, were top 5 of what she's had. Nice and crispy not greasy. I ordeee the maple orange salmon. Lacked flavor wasn't very maple tasting or orange. I would suggest to add orange zest for a bright flavor. Good size piece. Baked potato was ordinary. Sorry to say was not impressed by Hurricane Hanks. The previous reviews led us there, but the extremely dirty sidewalk at front door was not a good first impression. We were seated fairly quickly on Mother's Day for dinner. The waitress was engaging and her service was consistent. Family members dinners were excellent: meatloaf entree, fish & shrimp entree with delicious coleslaw, even the child's Kraft Mac & cheese was good. They have a delicious, very fresh Caesar salad. My personal order was terrible. I try the Cuban sandwiches at almost every restaurant we visit when it is on the menu. This was the worst. The three pieces of meat were so thin you could almost see thru them and all I could taste was the bread & mustard. It had 1 tiny round pickle slice on it. I wanted to send it back but place was very busy & didn't want family to wait while they replaced my order. Everyone else's entrée was good. Very expensive for lack of quality. We ordered directly from the menu ... patty melt with fries... received patty melt with onion rings... ordered the Texas BBQ... no BBQ sauce. If you order a cheeseburger ... be prepared for the cheese to not be melted but the slice placed afterwards. The cod is a giant fried burrito, not bad tasting but asked for cocktail sauce and it didn't come with it and when I reminded the waitress she told me it doesn't usually come with it (oh boy, I know this and that's why I asked for it separately). The Arnold Palmer was ordered and no lemonade but when told about it came back with lemonade and splash of tea. I am not sure if we hit at a bad time (4:00) or this is the usual, but we will not be going back to find out. read more
