Ocean Prime at Quay Commons is definitely a see and be seen kind of place, and you can feel that the moment you walk in. It's polished, sophisticated and very much geared toward people who enjoy being in the middle of the scene. There is a slight "I'm better than you" energy to the place, but honestly, it's tolerable because the atmosphere is beautiful and the overall experience is enjoyable. The service, however, was spectacular. Our experience with the staff was attentive, professional and genuinely impressive. At a restaurant at this price point, excellent service matters, and they absolutely delivered. I had the filet mignon with a Caesar salad, while my friend ordered the sushi platters and French onion soup. I actually liked having such different options because you don't necessarily have to come here looking for a traditional steakhouse experience. My filet was very good, although I thought they were a little heavy handed with the butter. There was almost too much butter for my taste, and I would have preferred to let the flavor of the steak speak for itself. Overall, Ocean Prime is definitely an experience. It's upscale, energetic, expensive and very much a place to see and be seen. There is definitely a little pretentiousness in the air, but the spectacular service, beautiful surroundings and lively atmosphere make it easy enough to overlook. It's not an inexpensive night out, but if you're looking for a polished Tampa dining experience where the food, service and social scene are all part of the package, Ocean Prime is worth experiencing. read more

Getting a reservation was a little complicated on OpenTable. But the staff accommodated me right away. The food and service was absolutely amazing. I sat outside, which was really nice. It was covered so it wasn't too hot. The sushi was amazing. I definitely will be returning. read more

Went for my birthday. Thought the card from Ocean Prime at the table was a nice touch. Very attentive, knowledgeable server. Cool drink. Our sea bass and ribeye were delicious. The complimentary dessert was a nice touch though that pumpkin cheesecake was just okay. The only complaint was we were originally overcharged for the Oscar on the ribeye. My partner noticed the higher price on the bill, and the server got a menu to confirm. It seemed like not a big deal to him, and I wonder how many others overpaid without noticing it. At a high end restaurant, a visit from the manager especially after that would have been appreciated. read more

A personal review of our first visit to the newly opened Ocean Prime Sarasota last night. Definitely upscale and nice decor... The steak tartare was incredible, perfectly seasoned. The lobster bisque was good but could have used a bit more salt as it was slightly bland. The sea scallops were amazing. The ribeye had great seasoning but was a bit tough. Manager Andrew Podhola handled our concerns thoughtfully. He kindly offered to replace the dish with a new option from the menu and even offered to comp it, which we appreciated. However, I declined the offer and accepted the compensation instead, as I didn't want to wait for another steak to be prepared--I simply wanted to bring it to their attention. Both Andrew and our server Luciano provided exceptional service. Thank you! We'll definitely return to give it another try. read more

I've been to OP before and it was better the first time, to be honest. Portions were very small, prices were very high. I understand that when you go "white tablecloth," the prices will be more. BUT... Oysters on the half shell, amazing. Scallops, pretty good. Risotto, decent. NY Strip a little tough in places which was surprising. Creme brulee came out cold and like it had been sitting a while. Service, in general, was overbearing but I understand a balance must be struck between being attentive and interrupting conversation. The other feeling was like we were being hurried along when we just wanted to catch up after two years of not seeing one another. Two people, two entrees, a little bit of festive drinks (1 drink for one of us and two drinks for the other) and a dessert, almost pushing $300 with tip. Beautiful restaurant with plenty of bar seating upstairs and downstairs. We sat upstairs at the bar facing out towards the water. Really nice atmosphere. The food was fantastic. The bar tender did try charging us for the birthday dessert they brought out for my husband, but another bar tender corrected it after I brought it to his attention. We had a fantastic experience with exceptional food and service! However, I do have a little concern about the prices, which are quite high--kind of like dining in NYC. That's manageable for a vacation, but living here makes it tough to enjoy this kind of dining out every week. For our group of four, the total came to $675, and with a $75 coupon, it was $600, which is about $300 per couple. That's definitely a splurge! I appreciate that everything is à la carte, but some of the side prices are a bit surprising. For example, a loaded baked potato is $17, and sides like mushrooms and salads are around $16 and up. It definitely makes you do a double-take! And cocktails start at $20! You see where I'm coming from. Overall, we had a wonderful time, but it's definitely a treat rather than an everyday option! read more

We hosted a party of eight for dinner and we had a special room which was perfect. The view is as beautiful as the restaurant itself. We had excellent service both food and beverages. Everyone ordered something different and dinners met expectations... no one was disappointed from appetizers to desert! Food and service were excellent! I went with my mom to celebrate her birthday. I had the fillet au poivre cooked to perfection (medium rare). Very tasty! Sides were as expected although I particularly enjoyed the whipped potatoes. We shared the Warm Butter Cake which tasted like butterscotch. I had the Berries & Bubbles drink, which is Ocean Prime's "showstopper" cocktail, which is basically a berry vodka served with dry ice. Tasted fine but the presentation was excellent. We ate in the top floor dining area away from the bar, which was definitely the place to be because the main building(?) with the bar was quite noisy. All in all would define go again! read more

We had our first visit tonight at the upper deck bar. The bartenders were wonderful. It brought back memories of, myself, helping to open a new restaurant (not mine but other peoples restaurants) The Valet was wonderful. We didn't have a reservation and went to second floor bar. We eventually got hungry and ordered a spicy shrimp roll. It came out about 40 minutes later. The bartender said, "that the sushi station was getting overwhelmed currently and that's why it was taking so long". That is not what happened. I was in the kitchen for years and in the front of the house for years and I'll tell you it's was a food runner situation. I could hear managers telling people to grab food, but no manager grabbed any food. They should've been on the floor running food. It was a food runner issue not a kitchen issue for what I saw tonight and I wasn't even that close to the kitchen. Pay to park, pay for bread, tiny martini glasses (they used to have proper big ones but now use very small champagne coup glasses) had a flavorless grouper and my husband had a chewy, fatty steak. All sides are extra!!! Pretty place but nothing special regarding food and all the extras. It's pretty after dark but why have a dress code if people are entering in sagging jeans, sneakers, tank tops etc. No one is enforcing a dress code which is so disappointing too. read more

Most of the food was very good and our server (Crysty) and her supporting staff were excellent. The main issue that I had was that the Lobster Linguine for $57 had very little lobster and the little it had was toasted/burned. This was a big disappointment after seeing the picture on the site with a full lobster sliced on top. The toasts for the steak tartare were a little soggy/not fresh. The sushi rolls were very good. We ate downstairs and it was very loud - I did not have a problem with it, however, if you are sensitive to noise or do not want to speak very loudly to hear each other (especially if you are in a large booth), you may want to ask if there is a quieter area. First time dining at Ocean Prime. I took my boyfriend there for his birthday. It didn't disappoint. He was greeted at the desk with birthday wishes. When we were seated, there was a birthday card on the table. Sourdough bread was fabulous! Service was impeccable. Ambiance was lovely, and the food was perfect. We went to Sarasota Ocean Prime I NEVER complain!! We knew it was going to be pricey because we usually drive to Tampa because the quality is so good at that location. It runs about $100 per person without drinks Sarasota's location was a huge disappointment. My salad was soggy. I did subtlety let them know by not eating it. The sour dough bread was so tough we couldn't chew it. The food presentation was even off. Poor waiter poured my tea from the karaf and spilled it all over the table cloth They boast of a strict dress code but there were men in shorts and flip flops one guy had dollar store flip flops on. They only have valet parking and charge $10 . There is zero onsite parking even if you wanted to self park you could not. The valet people were pleasant Food was just ok. I have had better quality at Stonewoods. In the future I will go to our tried and true choices here of Hyde Park Cafe, Ruth's Chris or Capital Grill or one of many locally owned 5 star restaurants . At the very least, you get the atmosphere you expect and the quality food you know. read more
