Sarasota's secret Gem the food is fantastic especially their homemade sausage awesome everytime I've been there

Went here during weekday afternoon rush hour. It's on a busy road and one can miss the restaurant signs on the street. Viki, our server, was friendly. Ambiance was casual. Fish and chips was fine. Seared tuna salad was light and fresh. However, there was a live fly on it when it was served which they removed; it still left a bad taste. Overall, would still give this a 4/5. read more

Stopped here for lunch before dropping my friend off at the airport. Beautiful little place - well decorated. Menu is great! Small but plenty of options (if that makes sense). I had the traditional eggs benedict with fresh fruit on the side. My friend had a burger. Both were delicious! Service was great as well. They also have a bar. I'll definitely make this our stop on the way to SRQ airport :) read more

Sunnyside Cafe is easy to miss as it is along a busy road jammed in among hotels and industrial businesses. I came in at lunch time around 1:00 and there were no tables as it is pretty small on the inside. This was on a random Wednesday and so I would say probably be prepared to wait. I was able to sit at one of the spots that was left at the bar. Interior is nice. Staff (especially the one server) seemed overwhelmed. She was very friendly nonetheless. Only appeared to be two other people working: a single cook and a woman bussing tables. I liked the lobster roll that I got. Fresh if a bit under-seasoned. Needed a bit more salt and/or a side of fries. With tip I paid $28 which is another reason I wish it had fries. Definitely a bit overpriced. Bring cash as there is a cash discount. read more

Sunnyside Cafe - Lobster roll - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Sarasota, Florida

I came here for lunch on a recent trip to Florida. It was the first restaurant that I tried while I was there after getting off the airport. I ordered the soup of the day, the Hungarian Potato Soup and a Lobster roll. Both were very good and very tasty. The soup was very hearty. I would definitely order it again. I also tried the arugula salad, which was pretty good. The place itself is very low key in terms of decor and overall set up. It is a breakfast and lunch spot only, which is fairly common in the area apparently. The service in terms of how quickly our orders were standard for the area and the ambiance was okay as well. read more

We stopped in here for breakfast with the dogs before heading to the beach because they are pet friendly on the patio out front. It is a little weird to get to though- it's right next to a hotel and an apartment office and you have to walk past the office along the side of the building to get to the restaurant. They have a cute trellis and lots of plants/flowers to look at, so it's a quaint little spot. Our server was really sweet and brought out coffee and mimosas really fast and then gave us time to sip and look over the menu. We had wanted to order a side of meat for the dogs to share and decided on sausage (thinking it was just plain) because they had bacon the day before. She asked if we wanted it for the dogs and told us it was very spicy and she wouldn't recommend it for them, which was very helpful and we got the bacon instead. We split a bowl of fruit and then each ordered a savory dish. My husband got the sunnyside breakfast croissant and it was HUGE. I got the frijoles salsa eggs benedict. We were both really happy with our breakfast. Super cute spot to sit outside in the shade and fuel up before spending the day outside. read more

Save yourself the trip and go elsewhere! Not sure what's up with their meals but they should def take it easy on that salt. I ordered the egg benedict with a potato pancake and they were both super salty. Same applies to the burger my husband ordered. The friendly staff and good reviews that this place received were promising. However, the burger I ordered was over-seasoned and barely edible. The fish and chips my friend ordered were tasteless. Delicious! My husband and I were traveling for his work. I'm doing keto and needed something that would work with that. Continuing my endless search for perfect fish and chips in Sarasota I visited Sunnyside Cafe which is located on US41 just south of SRQairport. Unusually for restaurants the fries were served hot and the batter was excellent; unfortunately although the cod was good quality it was far too salted. Served with tartare but no coleslaw. What a lucky pick! On our way to airport to say goodbye to Sarasota and found this Hungarian Cafe - quick! Turn here! Absolutely delicious options of Hungarian Goulash to the more traditional Eggs Benedict to the Chipotle Shrimp Omelette to Salmon Burger to Steak and Eggs! All prepared made to order and delivered with confidence by Julcsi! We loved every bite and will remember this handy spot. I have been going to Sunnyside with my family and friends for at least 12 years and have enjoyed every meal. The owners are hands on and very friendly. The atmosphere is open and cute and has a cozy and quiet ambiance. The service is excellent and all of the items I have had, mainly breakfast, have been wonderful and fresh. Obviously all is homemade and the potato pancakes are delicious! I would definitely recommend for a nice meal with family, friends or business. read more

============what are we doing? Review down below=========== Sunnyside Cafe is our 12th entry in the Quest for great Eggs Benedict / breakfast in the Sarasota, Vamo, Osprey, Nokomis, Venice, North Port, Englewood corridor. Eggs Benedict w/Ham, Florentine, or specialty (seafood, veggies, corned beef/hash, or others) and hash browns/potatoes and grits are the sides. We will narrow it down to top 3 in a few weeks and re-visit them and win, place, & show those finalists. (we are getting a bit fatter, I am not sure how many more we can try out) The Breakfast Cottage Eggstraordinary Café BLVD Café Max's Table Willow's Café Toasted Mango Café Anita's Restaurant Blu Island Bistro Word of Mouth The Breakfast House Sun Garden Café Sunnyside Café ===================================================== Let's GOOOO !!!! Lots of parking!! Seated immediatly. Pleaseant and wonderful greeting and smiles from the 'kitchen' and the waitstaff. This place felt good! Clean, tables nice, not a fan of the chairs with the open back and a bent curved pole in your back for support. Coffee and waters never got to half full, creams and milk always at the ready. Great job! Paula was a wonderful and helpful waitperson!! I got the traditional eggs Benidict with Canadian bacon/ham and a potato pancake. Eggs were absolutely textbook perfect cooked!!! NO Sal Manilla snotty whites and the yolk was warm but golden and liquid!!! The Hollandaise Sauce was sufficient and VERY VERY flavorful and nice!!! The muffin was also textbook perfectly cooked and a wonderful product. The potato pancake was also very unique and nicely spiced and cooked properly. 9/10 The Eggs Benedict w/salmon had about a 15 to 30 second over cooked eggs w/10% of the yolk a bit firm, but if not spot on I prefer this direction as opposed to under cooked, snotty white and runny! The salmon was not as perfect as we expected. seemed a little more fishy than smoked and not as pure of a product as sushi grade salmon. Maybe not a top notch slice/piece? The muffin also perfect as the others, the Hollandaise sauce awesome, and the potato pancake wonderful. 8/10 The two eggs over easy that my daughter got coudl not have been more perfect!!! My dad (or I) could not have done them any better. Awesome temp, perfect intensity...... textbook! The sourdough bread was a good product and flavorful, the homemade sausage was also very very exceptional. A varied mixed berries and fruit cup was very nice. 9/10 Not much else to go on and on about except to again say the kitchen has breakfast down SOLID!!! And the waitstaff and folks working there were swift, attentive, great zone defense table coverage and excellent service!!! Don't want to spoiler alert, but these guys are if not IN the top 3 they are a runner up........ Check them out for yourself!!!!! read more

Great stop I stopped in for breakfast a few minutes after they had opened. That gave me my choice of tables, I opted for one outside. With the threat of Covid rising again, I felt very safe outside on this somewhat breezy day. Road noise and piped music were my audio companions this morning. My very pleasant server, who seated me, headed right off to get me coffee while I looked over the menu. They had a few house specialties listed on the menu and even had a special Benedict this morning. I decided instead on The Brave One, an omelette made with bacon, a homemade sausage (excellent), jalapeno, cubanelle peppers, onion, and cheese. A side of salsa provided more flavor with chopped tomato and even more onion. It took a little longer for my food to arrive than I would normally expect, but having arrived so soon after opening, they may have still been getting set up for the day. My omelette was packed with ingredients. Bravery was not required, I didn't notice any heat, and it was delicious. It came with toast, and I got a side of potato pancake, an almost crusty disc of shredded potato mixed with onion and parsley. I very much liked all of it. Even though I was outside my server kept tabs on me, checking on me, topping off my coffee a few times. The check ready when I was. It was a great visit and a great start to the day. read more

We enjoyed our breakfast/brunch at Sunnyside Cafe, though there was a wait and service was a bit slow. If you come during a peak time and have the time and patience, then I think this place is worth it. I can't comment on the dinner service where they offer more adventurous and high-end items like foie gras and bone marrow, but for breakfast and lunch, this is a simple cafe that serves classic American comfort food. We were flying out of nearby Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) and had about 1.5 hours to kill. Sunnyside Cafe is only about a mile from the airport. I saw it had a great 4.5-star average Yelp rating with over 275 reviews, so our group of five decided to stop here for breakfast/brunch before heading to the airport. We arrived around 10:40am on a Sunday and the restaurant was already at capacity, inside and out. This place isn't tiny, but it isn't huge either. There were groups ahead of and behind us on the waitlist. We ended up waiting about 30 minutes for a table, which wasn't terrible. We didn't have time to waste when we were seated, though. Sunnyside Cafe is located in what appears to be a former motel front office and dining building. In the back, on the same lot, are low-rent apartments (Oakridge Apartments). The entire property reminded me of the 2017 Oscar-nominated film The Florida Project. Typical old Florida motel. I actually liked the "motel dining" atmosphere. It's a unique characteristic and part of the experience. During our Sunday late morning visit, we were handed breakfast and lunch menus. I believe we all ordered off the breakfast menu. Breakfast-wise, Sunnyside served mostly an assortment of egg and omelette plates along with Belgian waffles, pancakes, and French toast. Breakfast prices were $7-13 each for most plates. Lunch-wise, Sunnyside served soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, and typical American entrees like grilled salmon, New York strip, and grilled chicken breast. Lunch prices ran $11-15 each for most entrees. There was a note on the menu that said, "Every dish is made fresh to order! We appreciate your patience." Something to keep in mind. While we were waiting for what seemed like an extended amount of time for our food, one of my friends noticed there was a lot of standing around by some of the kitchen staff. I was facing away from the kitchen, so I didn't notice. I ordered a Sunnyside Eggs Benedict ($12) made with two poached eggs and house-cured salmon over a toasted English muffin and topped with housemade Hollandaise sauce. Sunnyside Cafe's Eggs Benedicts come with a side of either potato pancake or seasonal fruit medley. I went with the latter. It consisted of slices of apple, banana, and strawberry. Fresh and ripe. I thought the Sunnyside Eggs Benedict was delicious. The plate was cooked well and hit the spot. It proved to be nice and filling ahead of hours of airports and air travel. If you like Eggs Benedict, I recommend it. One of my friends got the same thing and, if his cleared plate was any indication, he was satisfied too. I also got an Iced Coffee ($3) to which I added my own cream and sugar. I think their iced coffee is the same as their regular house coffee, just chilled and over ice. A couple of my friends got the Belgian waffles and/or French toast (I forget which ones exactly, but both cost $7 each and $9 each with fruit). They upgraded to the optional Vermont Maple Syrup for $1.50 each. Unfortunately, however, our server forgot about it. The servers were very busy helping other customers. After waiting a while for a server to come back to our table - I think the servers thought we were set and that's why they didn't come back to ask us if we needed anything - one of the guys had to get up and find a server to let them know that they had not received the Vermont Maple Syrup they had ordered. The rest of us were nearly done with our plates by the time they got their syrup. So, I can see reason to rate this place 3 stars (OK) instead of 4 (Good). Aside from the service issues mentioned above, I thought all of the staff we interacted with were polite and seemed to know what they were doing. They weren't slacking, in my opinion, and perhaps were stretched a little thin when we were there. I believe Sunnyside Cafe opened in 2015. read more

Maybe it's the fresh sea breeze scent or the hunger from driving three hours, anyway you look at it, Sunnyside Cafe is worth the stop. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon after a drive from South Florida to grab some lunch. Not a lot of seating available, so we grabbed a seat on the bench outside and were seated within 10 minutes. They have indoor and about 3 tables outside. I ordered a Bloody Mary with a Lox platter. The lox plate was delish with goat cheese instead of traditional cream cheese. The salmon is home cured and tasted fresh. My husband ordered the open faced omelette (he is doing Keto) and gave me his potato pancake. This is a Hungarian family run cafe, and the side of potato pancakes reminded me of the European culture. The staff were all really nice and checked on us often with drink refills, overall really good food with a good location miles of the ocean. read more
