Dutch Valley Restaurant definitely worth the drive. We were in the Siesta Key area and stopped in for lunch and liked it so much we went back the next morning for a delicious breakfast. Food is made from scratch and super tasty. Service is friendly and efficient. The entire experience will take you back to days of old diner fun. First visit to Dutch Valley and it was pretty good. We ordered a Patty Melt with fries ($12.99), Country Fried Steak with Mashed Potatoes and gravy ($14.75), Lemon Pepper Chicken with Mashed Potatoes and dressing ($16.99), and a Cuban Sandwich with fries ($13.49). Both the Country Fried Steak and Leominster pepper chicken came with dessert of rice pudding. The Patty Melt was thick and served on a beautiful Swirled toast. The fries were crisp and just right. The Country Fried Steak was served with two pieces of thinner but tasty steak. Mashed potatoes and gravy were good. The Lemon Pepper Chicken was a half chicken and it was tasty. The dressing was a bit too mushy but tasted fine. Cuban sandwich was delicious. We also had a cup of chili and a cup of cream of broccoli soup. The chili was tasty like Mom used to make. The cream of broccoli had a super light taste and could have used some Mrs. Dash. Rice Pudding is generally not my favorite but this one was tasty and I'm glad I ordered it. Our server was Donna and she did a good job. The dining room is fairly large with tables booths and some seating at the counter. Dining is all indoors and the dining room was decorated for Christmas. Dutch Valley is simple straight forward, diner like hearty cooking. It was newly renovated and boasts enthusiastic meticulously placed/hung holiday homey decorations! Love them!! Four stars are for their pipping hot super delicious BROASTED chicken and beef liver perfectly medium cooked with Au jus, bacon and onions- - our regular meal which is served with good home made soups, a simple salad and choice of potatoes etc. Prices are amazing and most helpful for budget conscious folk. This is exactly the type of supper my folks would have loved- - frugal, plentiful and satisfying. Waitresses are old fashioned fun, talkative and caring. Some of the ' old timers ' are especially colorful and fun to chat with. They know us for we have been coming for this meal for over 4 years. Enjoy! read more

Thiis is the best cheap eats restaurant in Sarasota. Huge menu with tons of options. I had their Broasted Chicken dinner which consisted of 4 pieces of chicken and choice of potato. Soup, salad and dessert were included for $13.95. My wife got the Saturday Turkey special with dressing,choice of potatoes, salad, soup and dessert for $15.95. Portions were large and everything tasted great. Service could not have been better . For dessert they offered rice pudding or jello. The interior consists of booths, tables and counter service. They purchase their pies from Der Dutchman ...so we were "Sold." We ordered: chocolate/peanut butter pie and a slice of pecan ,decaf, and hot tea. The decaf was mediocre...i did ask if it was a fresh pot...he said yes....hmm. Questionable, but I dont think he was lying. He is just not a connoisseur of coffee. I was a little bit taken back when I entered. This is a very retro place. I had flashback to 1954 eating out with mom and dad / grandparents. But the friendly service and fun offerings won me over. If you order an entree you get a cup o' soup, small salad, and a dessert (I went with rice pudding and it was tasty with whipped cream). The prices aren't diner style bargains but it's the classic old time eatery feel like an authentic sort of family restaurant from the 1950s. All sorts of offerings. Well prepared. Never in my life has any restaurant charged me for a meal I couldn't eat. I've been a regular here and usually order the baked cod .At first, the fish tasted fine, but halfway through I discovered the bottom was undercooked, the breadcrumb coating was raw, and the fish underneath smelled bad and had an awful aftertaste - simply inedible. When I complained, the waiter took the plate away, yet I was still charged. The manager told me that since we had ordered two of the same dishes and my partner finished his, "nothing was wrong" with mine. She refused to discuss it, offered no apology, and was unwilling to take the dish off the bill. Absolutely unacceptable and extremely disappointing. read more

It was very busy and the clientele seems to be the older crowd (60 and above). I can see why seniors would like it - there's a variety of dishes - American, Greek, Mexican. The moussaka beef was dry (missing the beef grease). The bechamel sauce seems low on butter flavor. I feel a little bad giving this place 2 stars. It just wasn't the place for me. The service and price would be a 5 but it's the food. Everything seemed to lack flavor and just didn't do it for me. The red cabbage was good though. But the bratwurst just didn't seem to have any flavor at all. I generally don't use ketchup on my brats but I used it this time. I didn't even finish them. The inside was colorless and could see it lacked spices and seasoning. I do think that this place is more for a senior citizen though. Most of the customers seemed to be older. Which is great. They all seemed to love it so maybe in a out 25-30 years I would like it. Another customer even said that they generally don't see people our age eating here that often. But yes the service and the price along with the variety of dishes and a lot of different options. Just didn't seem to do it for me. read more

Terrific food and service. I had the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and rice pudding for dessert. The only thing missing was my mama and daddy sitting across the table. This food reminded me so much of my mama's delicious southern cooking. The restaurant was casual with the ambience of an old fashioned diner from the fifties. I created a very good skillet Normally I would have ordered Corned Beef Hash, especially on National Corned Beef Hash Day (9/27), but I had reviewed that dish way back 5 years ago. Instead of rehashing the hash, I created a skillet. Actually, I just designed the skillet, Dutch Valley was the one that created it. And they did good. Dutch Valley offers a build your own skillet where you can pick ingredients, I decided on sausage, ham, onions, and mushrooms. It was ready in under 10 minutes and it was very tasty. There was plenty of food. As mentioned in other reviews Dutch Valley is like a diner, without the chrome and neon. A big menu covering favorites, comfort foods, lots of sandwiches, even some Greek and Mexican choices, and so much more. Service was fine, a bit serious at the beginning ending with a friendly chat. I can't remember when Dutch Valley wasn't serving up good food. I checked their website and they started in 1972. Some of the music playing in the background might be 50 years old, but the restaurant certainly doesn't look it. read more

I started coming to Dutch Valley when I first moved here from Pennsylvania in the late 80's. It used to be one of my favorite restaurants, however that has changed significantly over the past year or so. The food started to get very bland. The coffee used to be very good however on my visit today it was bad, and I mean horribly bad. When I said something to the server she just acted like I was the worst person in the world and said she just made that pot about 30 minutes ago. As I went to the cashier to pay for my unremarkable breakfast she was complaining to the cashier about how bad I was and in 25 years of being a "waitress" she's never had anyone complain about her coffee before. I startled her by saying "well now you have one". She apparently didn't see me approaching the counter. She never apologized for the bad tasting coffee nor the bland breakfast nor the very runny eggs. While I was sitting waiting for my order I saw 2 elderly men come in and sat across the room from me. The one asked that the ceiling fan be turned off, it was on high speed setting, as he was cold. He already had a jacket on. She just replied that she wasn't allowed and left rather than getting the manager to do it for the customer. You could tell he was very cold. She was just an arrogant uncaring bit*h. I've had poor service in there before but I just chalked it up to someone having a bad day and never complained before. Today I said something to the cashier and the server. I got only reasons why they couldn't be helped. None of which were good reasons. I used to tell everyone how great it was there. That time has come and gone now. I strongly DO NOT RECOMMEND this place. Stay away at all costs. This is no longer the place it used to be. Sour/uncaring servers and management. Do not waste your time and money here. Dutch Valley is a cozy and welcoming place with regulars - usually the 60's and up crowd - being almost treated like family. I had the pot roast Monday special. My wife had the $14.99 spaghetti and meatballs. Both dinners included soup, salad and dessert (excellent rice pudding, Jello or ice cream) Wow--what a bargain. I ordered a waffle and eggs over medium. Being from NE I asked if Maple syrup was served and it was although their is an up charge, the portion was extremely small barely enough for one half of the waffle. Overall the food was well prepared and tasty. The wait staff were pleasant and appeared when you would expect. Did notice a couple of health violations but they have been resolved.
