I rarely ever provide a bad review but I didn't expect this and my whole family was disappointed ! We Made reservations for Thanksgiving dinner for 5 people . Promptly seated at 630 This is where things went haywire . We sat there with a menus for 35 minutes, yet absolutely no one acknowledge our presence. Note this is a small resturant with a max of 15 tables .Amazingly two other groups came in both to our left & right in this small quaint resturant. They were greeted & their, drink orders taken !Yet we just sat there like we were invisible . Finally I waved and the young lady said she was sorry. 10 minute later a busboy served us water. Another waitress stops and asked if we wanted drinks (she then started to take our order but stopped. "Now the first shock" we all came in for a Roasted Turkey thanksgiving dinner. But she told us their out of Turkey ! ( on thanksgiving with known reservations was outrageous) We ordered alternate meals . Then waited again a very long time as we sat at 630 and food arrived at 745 Luckily, what we had was very good. Then we tried for dessert, Yup only 3 pieces of pie left. So again alternate chosen. But only 3 delivered short one ice cream ? It's was crazy ! . We remained calm. It's understandable it can be hectic . My biggest letdown was the lack of acknowledgement . With 3 waitresses serving tables in a small resturant they don't seem to communicate with one another. The only person who seemed to care was the very first young woman who really expressed her dismay with the whole thing and offered the deserts on the house . I didn't expect this, we just thought they were either unprepared or their provisioning was really wrong . It ruined the whole experience ! I came on vacation in Venice over spring break. I've never been to Florida before but I was ready for a break from the harsh Michigan winter. I couldn't decide where to eat, there are lots of choices on the main strip of Venice, but I knew I'd be eating alone so wanted the environment to be just right. So, I parked and walked along Venice street. I found Flynn's! I peeked in and it wasn't very busy, although it was 5pm. I didn't even look at the menu before stepping in to sit down. The waitresses were all so kind and less me to a lovely seat outside. I was just in time for happy hour and ordered a house Chardonnay, for $5. Pretty good deal, although I'm not big on wine. I was craving bruschetta and decided to get that to start. It was goat cheese bruschetta which was extra DELICIOUS. I have passed this little place several times and decided to go in for lunch. We were sat and attended to, rather quickly, when it came to the basics, water and utensils (hence the two stars). After 15 minutes, only three seated tables and what looked like a full staff, my husband finally asked for a waitress to take our order. I ordered the tomato goat cheese quiche with a small Caesar salad and my husband ordered the lobster bisque and a salad. My husband received his lobster bisque within 10 minutes however, it was another 25 before I received my quiche with Caesar and his salad with a side of bread. At first I thought maybe they were making the quiche from scratch (Lol) but it was obvious that it had been reheated and burned. Although the ambiance and price of the place would dictate that this Caesar would have at least a few anchovies, it did not. It had been a number of years since I last dined in this eatery, but last night Kathy and I had dinner there before a show at Venice Theater. Alisha was our server, but the owner seemed to make sure we were taken care of. I started with a BOWL OF LOBSTER BISQUE, Kathy had a cup of it. Truly best lobster bisque I ever had!!!! For dinner Kathy ordered the GROUPER WITH WHITE WINE SAUCE OVER RICE and I wish I had done the same. My PASTA WITH SHRIMP was not that great, since for my taste, the pasta was too undercooked. This place is amazing!!! The food, so tasty. My Mom and I visited on a Sunday. Not a soul in the restaurant but the hostess Sue and the Chef. We were greeted warmly, offed our choice of any seat in the house and provided drinks immediately. I ordered the grouper sandwich, my Mom had a Gouda cheeseburger. The food was: GLORIOUS! Dinner was absolutely delicious, but the portions were ridiculously small, especially for the prices they charge. We ordered a burrata salad which was very flavorful, however the portion was so small. The portion of burrata was fine, but the portion of the greens was very skimpy. It was sold as a burrata salad, not just burrata with greens as a trimming. My husband ordered the scallops and risotto. He was served 4 scallops , with probably 1/4 of a cup of risotto and 2 asparagus, all for $32.00. I realize prices have gone up , but he would have liked to have seen more risotto and asparagus and even one more scallop for that price. He was still hungry when he finished his dinner. I had the salmon from the menu. The portion on that was much better then the other dishes and again it was absolutely delicious. I would recommend this restaurant however make sure you don't go when you're real hungry! read more

The wife and I were doing a little shopping along Venice Ave. and stopped in for some cold drinks at the Old Venice Pub. From the upstairs bar, we could see Flynn's across the street so we walked over for lunch. Yeah, the construction sucks right now but everyone is still open for business. The inside of this restaurant looks really classy. The waitress was pleasant and attentive. We ordered their burger and the pot roast grilled cheese sandwich and split them down the middle. Both were fantastic, I mean super tasty. It was a toss up as to which was better--perhaps the burger gets the nod--but both were good-sized, cooked well and came with a heap of potato skin-on fries. We each had had fresh-made sangria that we agreed was pretty dang good. Big glasses, too. The price was reasonable for what we got and I'd definitely recommend Flynn's for lunch. This place was recommended by a friend as an upscale eclectic experience. NOT!!! My wife and I shared the Blue Crab Bisque (at $7). The portion was generous and it was quite good. We asked the waiter if he recommended the roast duck. He indicated that it was a house favorite (at $28). We both love duck and ordered it medium rare. He indicated that he would ask the chef not to overcook it. When the dishes arrived the duck was dark brown. It was cooked so much that their was NO fat under the skin. The meat was dry and tasteless. When I complained to the waiter he said that was the way it was and everyone else likes it that way!!! I asked him to recall what we said when we ordered it. He seemed to have experienced amnesia and did not offer any solutions. I suspect that the duck was pre roasted and warmed up when served. The mashed potato and vegetables were nondescript. Maybe the other dishes are better but I will never know because we are not going back!!! read more

We ate Thanksgiving dinner here and it was horrible. Huge mistake. Service was beyond terrible. Took forever to get water and drinks. Our appetizers and soup never arrived. Turkey dinner was clearly not fresh. It was institutional food. Desserts were disgusting. And at 5:30pm they were out of many items on the menu. The bill was over $200 for 5 of us and what waste!!! We visited on a night when one of our favorite restaurants had a wait. We decided to try Flynn's because it was nearly empty --no wait. We were seated in a booth, the hostess/waitress took our order in a timely manner, and served us warm, fresh bread and a slightly sweet orange butter. The sweet potato soup was delicious. Subtle flavors, and hot (sadly, the last few soups I've had out have been lukewarm). I was really looking forward to our entrees now! Entrees were served in good time and were perfectly portioned. My husband's duck and my roast pork loin were cooked to perfection. His came with mashed potatoes, mine with mashed sweet potatoes, both creamy and tasty. We were both served asparagus and green beans that tasted, um, decorative. My vegetable was supposed to have been roasted beets, and I wish I'd asked for them. Dessert was mixed fruit Pavlova and Bailey's Irish cream and chocolate mousse. Both were lick-your-plate delicious. The only thing keeping it from a 5th star for me was the ambiance. There was nothing wrong with it, it was just incongruent with the amazing food--fake 'trees', Audrey Hepburn poster, a chandelier theme? IDK, and '70s/80's pop music. Just confusing. read more

Nice restaurant at a prime location in Venice. It is a small and quaintly decorated establishment. The menu offered some wonderful classic British foods like Beef Wellington, Fish and Chips, or Cottage Pie. Service was informal but prompt. The food was prepared with finesse by the chef that warranted the pricier menu items. The Beef Wellington was perfectly prepared and a beautiful presentation. The menu also offered some very reasonably priced and more casual food choices. We would definitely go back again if in the area. I gave it 5 stars because of the food quality rather than 4 though it lacked vegetarian choices though the menu stated to "ask for vegetarian options," disappointed that none but salad were available. Overall, it was a very good dining experience and my table of 7 enjoyed the well prepared foods. Also a plus.. they accepted reservations. read more

We went to the wine dinner tonight and were very disappointed we went to the wine dinners 5-6 times a year before Covid. This was our first time back since then. Wines were weak but that's not Flynn's fault. Chard was good. Red not with drinking. Bad winery choice. Not enough servers so your wine and your dinner weren't there at the same time. You could have wine and cold food or hot food and no wine. That's possibly a Covid issue--hard to find help. The main disappointment was the food. We've had hundreds of their dishes over the last 10 years, but every dish tonight (other than the beet salad) ranked as the worst we ever had there. Caveat emptor. read more

Great food, great venue. My husband and I stopped here while riding our bikes around Venice and walking on Venice Ave. We based our decision on other Yelp reviews and we're happy we stopped. Neither of us was interested in a heavy fried lunch, and Flynn's offers a wonderful alternative. We both had the soup of the day, which was delicious. I had the beet/chicken salad special, and he had the half sandwich/Caesar salad special. We were both comfortably full and enjoyed our meals. My mom has been a business owner on Venice Avenue for over 25 years after selling her fine dining restaurant in Connecticut. She is EXTREMELY picky when it comes to choosing restaurants. Flynn's has become her/our favorite go-to lunch place on Saturdays. Try the burger for $10 served with bacon on a toasted brioche bun. The fries are mouth-watering, and hand-cut. Tasteful, lovely decor and limited outside seating. We have been back multiple times since trying this place on a whim a few months ago. It's locally owned places like this that make Venice such a special place. Hopefully the locals support them over the summer. read more

We live in Venice and love the downtown area for it's charm and walkability. We were looking for something different and stumbled upon Flynn's. Every thing from appetizers to desserts was perfectly delicious with an excellent wine selection. Exceptional service as well. The food was not great. I had the grouper pane w/ risotto it was ok. My wife got the rack of lamb and hated it. we also got fried leeks that seemed stale and taste go old oil ? they took it off the bill . Also surprised at the limited wine list.
