Enjoyed a great evening outside at Maximon tonight, sat in the shade and with the breeze it felt like we were on an island - the weather was perfect. For a group of 4 people we ordered: -Guacamole -Rockfish Ceviche -Braised Short Rib Entree -Carnitas Platter -4 Cocktails (3 Colibri, 1x Curandero) Portion-wise the Platters are split at least 2 ways if you order nothing else, but size-wise we still had a few left-over with just the two appetizers, one entree, and platter. Quality of the food was amazing. Guacamole was great, cherries with it were a unique touch that we all liked. The Rockfish ceviche was refreshing and light, and not too citrusy, and not too spicy. The carnitas were so soft, and just had so much flavor, the sauce on top was incredible. The short rib was incredibly soft and tender, perfectly seasoned, and melted in your mouth. The Colibri was incredibly refreshing on a hot day - similar to a pina colada but better. Service-wise we never really had to wait on food coming out post ordering, but did wait a little bit for the check. Overall, I would absolutely come back here again as we thought the quality, portions, and service were excellent. read more

The food here is on point. Portion sizes are on the smaller size but worth every penny. Everything was delicious. But be forewarned 28 dollars for the lobster tacos and there were 2. Drinks were ok. Oysters weren't bad. Most of them were fresh. A couple of them tasted funky. Every thing else was good. Ribs delicious Carnitas amazing Prawns dot dot delicious. Stopped by to check it out. The margarita was great! Good flavor, not "sour" and I could taste the tequila. The queso fundido with chorizo was also good and you can never go wrong with guacamole. I gave it 4 stars because the bar service was slow- it took awhile to get our drinks both times. Also, the live music was a bit loud for my taste. Nice decor though. Thanksgiving weekend we had dinner here, first timers. The dining room was only half-full and we were seated directly in front of the stage. Our waiter was very professional and efficient. We ordered a couple things and we asked to keep the menu as we kept adding to our order. We also got a couple or three cocktails. Everything was delicious! We got the Queso Fundido, Shrimp & Crab Tacos, Crunchy Mahi Mahi Tacos, Mushroom Tacos, Roasted Beet Salad, and the Baby Gem Lettuce Salad. For dessert we got the Churros! Amazing food and views. I would've liked to give it 5 stars but here is where I'll be picky - the short rib did not have as much chimchurri sauce as I would've liked (and the sauce lacked flavor so that was disappointing), plus the bus boys kept refilling my water with tons of ice when I said I wanted room temperature water. I'm really tempted to still give it 5 stars because the food was really that good and I am still semi obsessed with this place. I also the oysters, the guac (with fig), and tres lesche with raspberry sorbet. All 3 items were some of the best I've had at a Latin American restaurant. read more

We went for lunch and for dinner on separate occasions and the dinner was an overall better experience than the lunch. The platters are no longer available during lunch, so we sampled the fresh seafood appetizers and the tacos. The ceviche dishes and seafood tacos were overwhelmingly acidic and lacked flavor balance. In contrast, the rockfish platter from our dinner experience was exceptional. The presentation, freshness, and flavors of the dish created a wonderful, memorable night. The ambiance is warm, inviting, and airy. This would be a great place for a nice, convivial dinner. read more

Due to covid a lot of trips have been put on hold and if you are wanting a staycation meal look no further. Food was delicious. Atmosphere was delightful it reminded me of Cabo in the middle of Baltimore. Some things are a little over priced but your truly paying for the atmosphere. It rained on us when we went and we were able to be move to the bar area which also had a cover. The bar staff was accommodating throughout the visit. I'll go back, the short rib was amazing, and I definitely had a dream about it since my visit. Also the mezcalrita reminded me of Cabo as well. read more

Food is good, location is awesome and drinks are the best. Sitting here with my daughter, enjoying the good weather. Had Mahi Mahi tacos- really fresh and crunchy. Their mushroom tacos are good too. The only thing is come when you are ready to relax, the servers and staff will insist on it :) The best part was the drinks. Both aqua Fresca and original margarita were easily the best I have had. Let me start this review by saying that we are avid Atlas restaurant group supporters. We go to Tagliata at least monthly and even got engaged there. We love Loch Bar. Last night, I decided to take my out of town family to Maximon. They specifically requested waterfront dining and I thought Maximon would be perfect and that Atlas wouldn't let us down. It was my first time going as well and I was excited to show off Baltimore's best dining. Boy, was I mistaken. Service was incredibly slow and lack luster. None of that super personable Atlas service I am accustomed to. The food runners would throw the plates down in front of us and wouldn't even make eye contact. The food was even worse than the service. My cousin was excited to try the oysters since we were on the baltimore harbor. The oysters came out STILL FROZEN IN THE MIDDLE...as if they had just been pulled out of the freezer and sat on ice in the back. The corn quesadilla was flavorless and lukewarm. The black bean risotto was watery and the risotto was crunchy. The only good thing we ordered was the queso fundito. I left the restaurant embarrassed that this was what I brought my out of town family to for their first baltimore meal. All in all, very disappointed with our latest atlas experience and don't plan on returning to Maximon. read more

Being Hispanic, I was so excited to try Maximón; I was looking forward to its Latin-American vibe. I started of with some sparkling water and their seasonal Atlas beer (which is locally made by the Atlas group owners specifically for this restaurant as the waitress explained). The beer was very good, and it was nice to know it was local. It was three of us so we tried a lot of things. Their guacamole was delicious, I loved the little peach balls in it; it made the guacamole something more exotic. The hamachi ceviche with the ají amarillo leche de tigre was exquisite. When it came to the carnitas entree, the food was good in taste, but nothing out of the ordinary. The food was well seasoned, the sauces were good; for the feel and ambiance of the place I was just expecting something different with a bit more character. The chicharrón was good, it could have used a bit more salt, and it could be served maybe in smaller pieces. Where the restaurant excelled was in the desserts; everything we tried was delicious. The tres leches has a great consistency and the crumble and the prickly pear sorbet were excellent pairings. The flan was nicely paired with the sorbet, however it is not your authentic flan (which is okay). Lastly, their avocado-honey ice cream was simple yet unique. Although it was explained to me by the waitress that the restaurant is a fusion of Mexican with Latin-American, I had a bit of trouble understanding the identity of this restaurant. There was nothing I disliked about it, however it needs just a bit more of identity to its food. For the price, the food just needs that something special to make it unique. I also really enjoyed the music and their outdoor area. When we went it was a very hot day and I would have really appreciated some sort of fan or mister device to create a breeze in the outdoor area/bar. After hearing so much about Maximon, I had a chance to come here for dinner with some friends. Needless to say, I was completely underwhelmed and disappointed. I'll start with the pros... the decor is beautiful. It feels very high-end and I can tell people come here for the vibes and photo ops. Unfortunately that's where it stops, in my opinion. The food is completely overpriced given the portion size. I ordered the shrimp ceviche and it was literally just a plate of cold shrimp. The Carne Asada platter was good but nothing to write home about. Like other reviews have mentioned, most people are used to higher prices with other restaurants in the area, but this was ridiculous. The margarita that I ordered was good but not worth the price. To wrap it up, service was also slow and unimpressive. Overall, Its a cute place to enjoy decor and vibes, but I wouldn't return or recommend it. read more

This place has become one of our favorite summer spots! Everything is exquisite. Their outdoor patio makes you feel like you are on a vacation. The food is always a great combination of flavors that explode in your mouth. The last time we were there we got the guacamole. There were gooseberries in it. It seems strange but the combination is unexpectedly awesome! We also had Abby as our server both times. She goes above and beyond... and made us our own sangria that was not on the menu, but definitely should be! I stopped in for a solo dinner for the first time Thursday. Everything was perfect, from the service to the cocktails and drinks. I ordered the lamb and lobster tacos. The tacos were served cold & spicy but not overly so. The lamb was perfectly prepared. I ordered a colibri cocktail from the menu, then had the bartender make a caipirinha. Maximón is a piece of paradise in Baltimore! When you walk up to the restaurant, the views of the harbor are beautiful. They have palm trees and very nice decor that makes you feel like you're at the beach or on vacation. I visited during the first week of opening during COVID so I sat outside. I felt very safe and social distancing was perfect. Even if the indoor seating had been open, I would sit outside. We had Wendy for our waitress who was very nice and attentive. The food? Delicious! I find the portion sizes to be small but it is enough to feel satisfied since it is so tasty. For drinks, we tried the Papel Picado and Maximon Margarita. Both great cocktails! For food, we ordered Rockfish Ceviche, Fried Chicken Tacos, Sliced Wagyu Tacos, Shrimp and Crab Tacos, and Churros! Absolutely recommend it all. As far as the food and drinks go, it is amazing. Our servers that we have gotten every time that we have been there has been great. But, after giving our business to this restaurant, one of the guys(I didn't get his name but let's call him J) try to escort one of our friends who was dining with us like he was doing something wrong by walking from the bathroom to where the rest of us were. J also kept saying that if my friend isn't the one paying the bill then he needs to leave and proceeded to physically shove my friend out of the bar. The apology by the Manager on Duty was WEAK.. J didn't think there was anything wrong with the way he treated our friend. After spending so much money and treating everyone who works there with kindness, we get treated like crap when all we are trying to do is pay the bill. read more

My boyfriend and I went to Maximon tonight to celebrate a belated Valentine's. We were seated at the very back of the restaurant, at a very small table, while other couples around us were seated at 4-person tables that were at least twice the size of ours. We were not too bothered by this at first- sometimes reservations work out this way- but it was definitely something we noticed right away. Initially, the service was fine, drinks came out relatively fast and so did appetizers. We told the server as soon as we sat down that my boyfriend has a severe peanut and tree nut allergy. We barely saw our server after this, he only came by a few more times throughout the meal to take additional orders, while other tables around us were being checked on consistently. When we ordered our tacos, we reminded the server about the peanut allergy, since the carne asada tacos stated that they contained peanuts, and inquired if it would be possible to omit them- we were told that this would not be an issue. When the tacos came, they had a sauce on them that I tried to make sure it was ok for my boyfriend to eat. And what do you know- it tasted like peanuts. We informed the server, who was very apologetic and received new tacos without the sauce (but very soggy). Of course, my boyfriend was now understandably nervous to eat anything else we were served, and did much of the remaining dinner or dessert. When we inquired how this issue could have happened- especially at such a high caliber establishment- we were told that the kitchen must have "forgotten" or that our plates got "mixed up". Our tacos were also NOT comped. For someone with an anaphylactic allergy, this is not an acceptable response. When leaving we requested to speak to the manager who told us the same thing- how is this ok? If I had not tried the sauce before he ate it we would have spent our night in the hospital. It felt as if no one took us or our concerns seriously (perhaps because we were younger than most people there). We left unhappy, unsatisfied, and frankly extremely disappointed. I had been looking forward to this dinner for a while, and was shocked by how poor of an experience the night was. read more

If I could give Maximon a 5+ star review, I totally would. The food experience went beyond anything I could have expected! You can tell that the staff members know the menu inside and out and I always love when that's the case. It made for an especially great dining experience for us at Maximon. I was also impressed by the fact that our server JQ had such great (and honest) food recommendations. We got to sample some unique South American dishes, all of which we loved! Definitely start with the guacamole, it's the perfect mix of salt, sweet and tang. The ceviche is also a great next course - we really enjoyed the habachi which featured a yellowtail fish. For entrees, the giant prawns and lamb chops are perfect for sharing. For desert, the tres leches cake is just the right amount of sweetness to end the meal with. read more
