AMAZING. So happy to have found this place. I ordered the Lumache - gluten free (any pasta can be made gluten free they said) and oh my god! It was so delicious. The sauce, the crunchiness, the ricotta. I think about this pasta for a long time. We also ordered the (tagliatelle) mushroom pasta which was also pretty great! Loved the service and the retro theme. Excited to come back.

My friend and I came here for brunch, and it was OK. We both ordered the "frittata" but what came was actually a quiche! We also got the biscuit with butter and jam, which we both liked. The service was a bit slow despite the fact that the restaurant was relatively quiet. The restaurant is cute though and I'd try coming back for a dinner!

I came to Mattina for dinner with two of my girl friends - they have a "Ladies Night" menu on Tuesday which is so cute! The deal is a spritz and flatbread (3 options) for $22. Since there were three of us, we tried each of the flatbreads. I liked the mushroom and prosciutto ones. I would not recommend the cauliflower caesar salad one - it sounded interesting, but it was so hard to eat because the lettuce was so big (not sure why they didn't chop it up some more), and there was also no sauce so ate really dry. We were still hungry, so ordered the Lumache pasta which was really good! I loved the creamy sauce. I loved the ambiance, it got super lively after 7ish and it was completely packed on Tuesday night! Overall a solid spot for a nice dinner with friends or a date night!

Small portions for the price. Had a table of 8- got 4 apps, 4 pastas, 2 sides, and two mains. Was told to do family style over individual pastas. Dont think it was enough food considering the price of each pasta was $30+ and mains were $40+. Super quick service but the food was not mind blowing

Enjoyed everything we had here for dinner. We had made a reservation through Resy, but the restaurant was really quiet on a Saturday night between 5:30 to 630 Started the meal with a wonderful glass of Sangiovese. The server recommended their new Piadina which was a thin but fluffy milk, bun bread with crisp edges and a sliver of cheese and mashed potato inside. It was delightful. It seems that they changed their menu pretty frequently since she said it was their first night serving it. We also had a beets and octopus small plates came with small chopped slivers of octopus yellow beets, along with the red cabbage side that was cooked and pickled. Both were delicious. We had a hard time deciding which pass again since they all seemed intriguing, the one we ended up getting was the maltagliati which was amazing with oat pasta and beer braised chicken . It was flavorful and addictive without being too heavy of a dish. Service could've been a little more attentive for it being relatively empty most of the time we were there, but otherwise we really enjoyed everything that we eat in the restaurant was chic and beautiful. They were very kind and bringing our kids old menus to color on .

We were a large group that came and they were able to accommodate us in the main room. Definitely a neighborhood restaurant vibe. Server's recommendation was to get a bunch of different pasta dishes and share it since each item on the menu is portioned for one. Best dishes of the night: - arancini - beet & octopus - tagliatelle Acquired taste: - canederli Honorable Mention: - arugula & apple salad The canederli was delicious but I know for certain individuals in my group they didn't enjoy the idea of thanksgiving in a dumpling which was exactly what it tasted like. The arugula & apple salad was a refreshing start to the meal with a lot of textures. Would love to come back here and try their other dishes.

Went for a birthday dinner. They have a nice selection of pasta and drinks. I had the Arancini. Sorry but looked like little turds. The rice was just ok, needed more flavor. Then the Mafaldine pasta made of spinach with "bolognese deluxe". It was tasty, a little salty but still good. What I didn't like: The door. It was freezing and I don't know how many times I had to paise my meal and stand up to close the door. They have to fix it or put something between the tables and the door to stop the cold from outside. The Tiramisù. This is an American version. It had sea salt. Really? First time in my life I had this dessert with sea salt. Terrible. A botton layer of hard chocolate which was unexpected. Didn't mind but the cookie under that chocolate had also salt. I don't like salt in desserts. Then the mascarpone cream. It wasn't mascarpone. Tasted like vanilla pudding. Super sweet dessert. I can say it was the worst Tiramisù I had in my life. If you're going to play with this is totally fine, but you have to put on the menu it is an American twist. Service was slow but on was a Saturday night. The restroom was clean and pretty with that flower wallpaper. Liked the soap. Sorry but this place is not for me. Adding one star because the servers were nice and they had my favorite italian aranciata.

Solid 4 stars for Mattina, we messed up and didn't order protein. We also forgot to say we wanted the food coursed so it all cane out fast. One right after the next so wasn't as enjoyable for 2 people sharing everything. 2 pastas are not pictured one was very good, the ravioli! And the other was bland & boring it was a chunky shell pasta with red sauce. Despite some mishaps I did enjoy the food here! The server and front staff were nice, & the perfect amount of chatty. The ambience was boring & generic with some fun comfy chairs that felt like they should be on a patio. Overall I liked but doubt I will return.

Came here for their neighborhood nights special menu which includes a bruschetta, main, and dessert for $45 per person. The ambiance is cute and cozy with a nice neighborhood cafe vibe. For bruschetta we got the ricotta & mushroom and pea & mint w/horseradish toasts. The bruschettas were both good but I found the mushroom one to be a bit too salty and acidic and preferred the light and herby pea & mint bruschetta. We shared the pappardelle and tagliatelle for mains and I really like the tagliatelle with marsala mushrooms and lot of parm. The pappardelle was good as well and I enjoyed the lamb cheek but just wished there was more protein. Dessert was a yummy semifreddo strawberry pie. Overall the pastas were yummy but I thought the flavors lacked depth and with so many great Italian spots in the city, I would probably go elsewhere for Italian. I also thought the pasta itself was a bit overcooked. The neighborhood nights marketing is fun but really it's not a great deal given the usual prices of the dishes. If I came back again I would just order a la carte.

    Eggs al forno

I had finished my errands in Pac Heights early and decided to reward myself with breakfast. I remembered wanting to try Martina, so this was the perfect opportunity. I got the eggs al forno and it was pretty yummy. The toma cheese added decadence with the rich yolk, which was just set. And the charred Brussels sprouts added smokiness and a crispy texture. The bread was perfectly toasted and rounded out the dish. Service was okay. They may have been short staffed that morning, though there was at most 2 other parties during my time there. One gentleman couldn't wait to place his order any further and left. I didn't wait that long for my order. Though, I had to look for my own utensils. Interestingly, despite the restaurant being empty with no lines, a party who was waiting on one more person wasn't allowed to be seated. They had to wait in the cafe area. So this place is pretty strict with its seating policy. As for the decor, it's very calming with its natural tones. I was in the cafe area where there was a lot of indirect light. It gets darker further in. I'd like to come back for their pre fixe dinner menu.

Got a slice of coffee cake to enjoy while reading my book on a Sunday morning (around 10:30am). I was told it would take a few minutes to come out, but it was more like 15, but I didn't mind too much since I was reading and enjoying the ambiance while sitting at the window bar. Perfect spot for people-watching! The coffee cake was delicious and warm - it has a delightful fruity (apple?) component on the bottom layer, and a yummy crumble on top. My friends joined later and some of them ordered the Italian Toast, which looked incredible, so I might have to try that next time! Items are on the pricier end but it's a nice place.

I heard a lot about their $45 3-course dinner every Tuesday-Thursday 5-9pm, but I ended up ordering a-la-carte. I was quite pleased with the food, although they are on the pricier end: - arancini ($13): uniquely shaped, it was piping hot and delicious inside but the outside looked slightly burnt - prosciutto & gnocco fritto ($23): the cantaloupe really pulled the whole dish together with its sweetness! the crispy fritto was also delicious - tagliatelle ($30): a little salty for me but the mushroom flavor was delicious - chicken skewers/ spiedini ($13 each): these were so tender and juicy

Came here for their special Thursday menu that we saw online! When we first got sad, we weren't given the special menu, but upon request we were brought the menu with a $35 and $45 option. I chose the $35 option and was able to select from a salad/warm starter and a pasta dish. It also came with the milk bread. Honestly, the milk bread was absolutely delicious. The salad was quite nice too and a good sized portion and the pasta was nice as well. I wouldn't say it was the most standout pasta I've ever had, but I loved that there were a lot of vegetarian options to choose from from a creamy mushroom to this delicious tomato and corn ravioli of sort. Our server was very sweet, and the inside of the restaurant is nicely decorated!

Just a quiet marble table, a tiny vase with two yellow flowers, and a slice of matcha crepe cake that makes you forget what you were stressed about. I came in on a weekday afternoon and ordered the matcha crepe cake and a passion fruit refresher. The cake is the kind that looks almost too precise to eat. Dozens of paper thin layers stacked with the kind of patience most people reserve for things that actually matter. The matcha flavor is real, not the green tea powder imposter you get everywhere else. The drinks are thoughtful too. Not sweet for the sake of being sweet. You can tell someone actually tasted these before putting them on the menu. The space itself earns its own mention. Marble counters, natural light pouring in from the street, good music at a volume that lets you actually have a conversation. It feels like someone designed it for the experience, not the Instagram photo, which ironically makes it very photogenic. 4.7 stars on Yelp with nearly 300 reviews and I understand every single one of them.
