Walked in on a rainy Tuesday night with 2 other people. Joe's had a 20 minute wait but A16 was half empty. Food and wine were good. Wait staff seemed indifferent. Our table shared the little gem salad and brussel sprouts. We each got a different pasta, and everyone enjoyed their dish so it seems you can't go wrong with pasta here.

My boyfriend last minute made Valentines Day plans here (mostly because everywhere else was booked and he knew I needed to be dined out on Valentines day). Plus, he wanted to take me somewhere new. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. I already came in skeptical because it's so easy to make just average Italian food, and harder to knock my socks off (cmon, SF has Flour + Water, Penny Roma, and Cotogna!!!). The service was amazing. We had the sweetest waiter and made sure we were taken care of. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Interior is super cute with outdoor patio in the back and wine cellars.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However, it's really hard for me to stand ten toes down behind a restaurant when the food is just whatever. We did the Valentines Day tasting menu with the wine pairing. The antipasta dishes were good, nothing amazing. The main dishes were soooo disappointing. The Margherita pizza was average, and the pasta dishes were even more average. (You know it's bad when "We can make this better at home" is said) The duck dish was fine, but nothing worth curling your toes. Price point doesn't make sense when the food tastes so bland and boring. Would not recommend :(

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Really cute date night wine bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We loved our charcuterie board, though cheese could've been more inspired. They were kinda boring cheeses. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Outdoor patio was gorgeous and service was kind, if inattentive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Pizza was definitely good but wish it had a little more flavor. Crust and dough was excellent, maybe could have used some salt. But my husband always says I need too much salt. Would come back again for date night but food was good but not WOW

Came here on a Saturday evening and had a reservation (would recommend this as it was pretty busy). Service and Staff: - Our waitress was very kind and didn't show any signs of stress (she had a lot of tables). She also didn't write our order down at all, but got it all correct Food and Drinks: - Margherita Pizza: forgot to take a picture of this! Came with 6 slices that were pretty good size. I ordered mine with the burrata cheese, which was a good call - Fava E Cicoria: fava bean puree. The puree and the chips it came with were both good. - Polpo: flavorful - Tiramisu: sweet, decadent - Olive Oil Cake: this was so good. The slices of the orange on the side added a nice touch. - Pomegranate Spritz: fun drink Miscellaneous: - Parking is tough in this area, but possible - [[HIGHLIGHT]]Outdoor and indoor seating available[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] - Alcoholic drinks are limited to wine, beer, and two kinds of spritzes

Had some wine and pizza with friends last night after a show . We ordered the first 3 pizzas in the menu (arbiatta, margarita and formage ) and they were very good - on the arbiatta I maybe would have added a little bit more cheese but all together great - excellent tomato sauce and good dough . We also ordered the cauliflower which was very tasty and a bottle of primitivo which was amazing - totally worth the 90$ To me this place a solid 4 stars , and I will definitely return again in the future !

6% surcharge. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have two wood fired ovens that infuse the entire place with a great smoky aroma.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The run-down: - 5/5: Salsiccia pizza $27: exceptional in flavor and texture. The flavors from the cheese, sausage, and broccoli rabe meld perfectly. I like the springy/chewy crust. - 5/5: Salted Dark Chocolate Budino $15. Exceptional. Better than what you get at a high end pastry shop. The mousse on top is light as air but packs very deep chocolate flavor. Perfect amount of fleur de sel. I had it with the Giacomo Bologna "Braida" dessert wine $16, which tasted like fresh berries. - 2/5: Inverno Spritz $17; pomegranate, lime, rosemary, prosecco. It doesn't work. It's a generic pungent spritz with no character.

We have been here several times and they never disappoint and last nights meal was no exception. We ordered several dishes and each one was fabulous. It was New Year's Eve so they were especially busy so our table wasn't ready when we arrived for our reservation. The hostess was extremely apologetic and friendly. We didn't mind the wait and it was not the fault of the staff. The entire staff is friendly and hard working, and did I mention how good the food is here? If you're looking for a fabulous Italian restaurant in San Francisco, put A16 on your list.

Came for a birthday dinner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Atmosphere is fun (though loud) and it's a surprisingly large restaurant with a back patio area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Taking off a star because the crust of the pizza I ordered was underdone, especially in the center. The dough was still wet. I tried someone's pasta which was delicious with a great pillowy texture, so probably just an error in the kitchen.

    Joey W.

The pizza flavors were flavorful and well balanced. The only con was how tough and chewy the dough was. Other than that, it was good. Margherita pizza - a classic and solid pizza. Salsiccia - the broccolini added nice texture to the fennel sausage. This was one of my favorites of the three pizzas. Pizza Al Tartufo - a seasonal pizza with truffles, potatoes, and fennel sausage. I'm not a huge fan of potatoes on pizza so I'm glad they sliced it really thin.

My girlfriend and I came in on Saturday and it was rather disappointing. The food was actually pretty good and we enjoyed dishes such as the marinated olives, fingerling potatoes, and the burrata with prosciutto. However, the service was quite underwhelming. I understand it's a Saturday and it gets busy, but when you have to wait around 40 minutes for someone to greet you and ask if you want water and take your order, it's quite disappointing. On top of that, our wine and water came out 10 minutes after our food arrived at the table and then they ended up bringing the wrong wine, which ended up taking another 10 minutes to come out. Again, the food was great, just disappointing service

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Good food and beautiful ambiance![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I forget the name, but I liked the fried olives (one of their seasonal specials). The squid ink tonnarelli with fresh crab meat was good, but it was doused in a bed of oil + was frankly smaller-portioned than expected for being $34. The margherita pizza with burrata was probably my favorite--I liked the airy crust. Definitely ask for some chili oil for some kick + parmesan on the side! Nothing too special about the panna cota...overall good food but value-wise, not the best

Busy on a Friday night we managed to get a lovely table for two! Very bustling and nice crowd. Our server was fantastic super attentive and kind. We got two margaritas and they were delicious! Is definitely recommend the pizza here - light, not too oily, flavourful. The desert was AMAZING! We got the olive oil cake - I saw some of the others and I would say I'd love to try the tiramisu. I didn't see an overwhelming amount of vegetarian options - there were a few vegetable and bean sides etc but I didn't see anything too stand out - will have to come back and try!

And the service matches that energy perfectly: polished, warm, and present without hovering. And don't skip the cocktails. They're a core part of the experience. Their version of an Espresso Martini was my favorite of the night... and I'm not even a coffee drinker. Foodwise, everything was paced beautifully. We started with their playful "smoke break," a crunchy seaweed cigar stuffed with sweet Dungeness crab and caviar. The agnolotti was filled with ricotta and goat cheese, layered with Burgundy truffle and mushroom, and tied together with an aromatic onion porcini consommé. Warm malted pretzel bread came next with a silky Mornay sauce topped with caviar and mustard for dipping. The brandade of salted cod with light, airy whipped potatoes disappeared in a few spoonfuls, and the dry-aged kampachi mosaic, paired with truffle purée and finished with uni béarnaise and more truffle, was one of those bites you pause for. The highlight was the two-part course: matsutake chawanmushi with crab dashi and browned butter, paired with unbelievably tender abalone finished with a sauce made from its own liver. Closing: Bar Crenn isn't about big portions or spectacle. It's about intention, atmosphere, and a rare level of refinement that still feels welcoming. If you're looking for a special night that feels transportive from the moment you sit down, this is absolutely worth the reservation. 5 stars.

Space is beautiful, low lights, wood paneling, velvet seats, a very relaxing but elegant design. Drinks: Mizuwari - good, this is prebatched and carbonated upon service, nice light fruity flavors with a light sparkling effervescence, whisky definitely more in the background, didn't pick up much floral in this one either but enjoyed it Arlequin - good, nice creamy foamy texture from the egg white, nice acidity, with subtle berry notes, and a whisper of scotch in the finish, a very unique take on a whisky sour Baxter - boozy and on the sweeter side, with a strong cognac flavor in the finish, fruity upfront, a slow sipper Food: Nori Rolls: great, loved the fresh Dungeness crab within the crispy nori shell almost like a wafer texture with just a little bit of rice to hold it together, grab was sweet with a subtle saltiness, chives added a burst of light delicate onion flavor, came with two small pieces per order Scallop Tacos: good, thin slices of raw scallops topped with mildly spiced xo sauce, on a very crispy chip like textured shell, the citrus added a burst of freshness, good but was expecting more of a traditional taco with a tortilla, this was a canape sized bite Pretzel Bread with Mornay sauce - pretzel i believe was a buckwheat base so a bit more dense than i was expecting, nice salty crust, mornay sauce was very tart and acidic with a thin runny texture, mustard forward as well, had higher hopes for this wouldn't recommend if you are expecting a classic pretzel Lobster Roll - served in a brioche bun that was a bit dense and lacked the airiness I was expecting, lobster was also a tad tough and chewy, loaded with bearnaise which was creamy and rich with a subtle saltiness but overpowered by the hot sauce served ontop Paris Breast: highlight of the night, really light airy choux with a slight crisp exterior filled with a delicious lightly sweetened vanilla cream, passionfruit orange and guava in the curd and filling was also excellent and made for an exciting end to the meal. Service was solid fairly attentive, plates and serviceware and water refilled and refreshed throughout. Food was well paced. Drinks took a little time to order but understandable given there were only two bartenders for the evening. Overall Bar Crenn was a little disappointing, other than dessert nothing was particularly note worthy. Cocktails were good but not outstanding, small bites were pretty hit or miss with small portion sizes. Glad i got to try this spot but not likely to return.
