My husband and I had been meaning to visit this A16 location for the longest time after its stellar reputation and having visited its location in the Ferry Building. Unfortunately, we were a little less than thrilled with the whole experience. But first things first... Anticipating a busy evening, I made a reservation well in advance, but since they were running late, the table wasn't ready when we arrived. Okay, that's fine. We were able to wait at the bar and order drinks, but then the wait got longer and longer as the restaurant continued to get busier and more crowded in the entry area and outside. The server was friendly enough, but perhaps was waiting on many tables since we sometimes found it challenging to get his attention. The food itself was good: we shared the polpo to start (very tasty and the octopus was maybe my fave part of the meal), arrabbiata pizza and orecchiete pasta for mains, and the budino tart for dessert after seeing its popularity at other tables. I came back again with my sister and brother in law because I enjoyed the first time I went. If you read my review for Flour + Water, you'll know I love a chilled salad. The arugula salad wasn't chilled the way I like but for others it's probably fine. The dressing I think had too much lemon and salt for my liking and my sister felt the same. We had 2 pizzas which were fine and meatballs. The meatballs were disappointing and had way too many breadcrumbs mixed in making them so soft and lacking in meaty flavor. My girlfriend and I came in on Saturday and it was rather disappointing. The food was actually pretty good and we enjoyed dishes such as the marinated olives, fingerling potatoes, and the burrata with prosciutto. However, the service was quite underwhelming. I understand it's a Saturday and it gets busy, but when you have to wait around 40 minutes for someone to greet you and ask if you want water and take your order, it's quite disappointing. On top of that, our wine and water came out 10 minutes after our food arrived at the table and then they ended up bringing the wrong wine, which ended up taking another 10 minutes to come out. Busy on a Friday night we managed to get a lovely table for two! Very bustling and nice crowd. Our server was fantastic super attentive and kind. We got two margaritas and they were delicious! Disappointed that they decided at the last minute to force a $132 prix fixe set menu for Valentine's Day. I booked weeks ago, but 1 week before they messaged to say they were not offering their a la carte menu. A16 was supposed to be the third stop (at 9:15pm) on our romantic tour (which also included a nice cocktail bar and a show), so we certainly had no need for a full five-course meal. I understand why a restaurant would want to force all reservations to a minimum spend, but they should have done so much much more empathy and advanced notice. By the time they told me, it was hard to find another reservation/ They also gaslit me and made it sound like they had always had the prix fixe on OpenTable, but it was obvious they added it later as new reservations had San Valentino as an "Experience," but my reservation was "Standard Seating" and had no special experience. I wish I had taken a screenshot of the messages to share just how unfriendly and unsympathetic the staff was. Glad we didn't spend a day of love with such unfriendly people. read more

We split most of the entrées, but the showstoppers were the pizza with my favorite olives on it and the squid ink pasta with fresh crab meat. The service was also great. Location is great in the beautiful marina district, and the restaurant is so charming and inviting. Now getting into the food, everything was quite delicious! The staple maccoranara was very tasty, I've had similar pastas that are much better in the city (54 mint's amatriciani) but it was still very good. The popular smoked burrata was also delicious, though it comes with bread crisps and I think real baguette would be much better. The pizza was good but pretty standard, nothing mind blowing. The cauliflower actually stood out, so delicious with the addition of the almonds and the chili sauce. My moms boyfriend also got a fish dish, I believe the halibut, which was also very good! The desserts (a pear cake special and a chocolate cake of some sort) were average, somewhat underwhelming. Service was pretty good and wine selection was great! I will 100% be back here. There is a large seating area in the back, past the bar/kitchen. The front of the restaurant is really tight, so I suggest requesting a table in the back dining room for more space. A16 really delivered on some highlights! The meatball starter was a standout, rich and flavorful and served with bread to soak up every bit of sauce. You can choose four or six, which I loved. The pizza was another hit, baked in their wood fired oven with a smoky, chewy crust and a beautiful char that gave it so much depth. Toppings were balanced and let the quality of the dough and sauce shine through. The pasta, however, wasn't quite to our taste. We tried the lamb dish and found it a bit cold, with pasta that leaned too dense and starchy, and the lamb flavor overpowered the other elements. We made a reservation for outdoor seating and it worked out great. They had heat lamps but it was already a comfortable evening, and the patio was not too crowded or loud which made it really enjoyable. I came here on a Friday night and it was packed. Luckily we had reservations. I shared the arrabbiata pizza with one other person, and it was filling enough for me. The tip of the pizza was a little thin and it was watery so the toppings were falling off, but it was still really good. I just folded my pizza so that the toppings wouldn't fall off. I took a piece of my friend's Paccheri pasta to try and that was really good too. Overall, the food is good and service is great. This place is cute but it does get crowded, so definitely make reservations. read more

Came here for the first time on a Friday night, the place was packed!! Food took a little bit of time, but not an insane wait. Had the meatballs (YUM!), a seasonal salad (only ok) and then the chicken special with a side of favs beans! The chicken special was really good!! I was really excited to try this place. The place is nice, a bit loud, but warm. The service was great and friendly. Burrata platter - was a bit bland and surprisingly pedestrian. Funghi pizza - was pretty good, abundance of toppings. squid ink pasta - this was a complete disappointment, not what we expected where the pasta was made with squid beet salad - this was the highlight of the meal. I'd recommend. Overall, the place is OK, but nothing extradonarily different from other craft pizza places. I don't think I'd go back. read more
