    Mozzarella di buffalo!

Service was fabulous- waitress was super sweet- not pushy at all. Delicious appetizers and super hearty main courses.

Had a great first dinner back in SF after a long trip out of the country! It's pretty nice inside with mood lighting and trendy vibes (but not overly crowded) -- kind of reminds me of some Fidi spots that are slightly nicer but not fine dining like Modi but located in Cow Hollow which is a bit more fun! I enjoyed the mushroom polenta (very creamy and savory)? and the pork dish was standout. The meatballs were also pretty good. Service was on the slower side but the servers were very friendly and it was a good amount of food for two people. Like the mix of Italian/Mediterranean(ish) flavors and would be interested in trying more dishes!

well! this was an experience! the atmosphere was dark, romantic. booths lined the walls with tables and seats to accompany them. they were very close together. very. so close i could hear the conversations of both neighbors even with all the noise around. the food was tasty! no complaints there. pricier side but i felt the portions and quality were fair. i overheard the menu does change often, due to the local selection, so these options may not be there when you go! the wait staff did make the experience feel rushed and alarming. at one point i was actively eating off a dish that was grabbed and pulled away. sorry but hello? can't take a second to look and see i'm eating? can't take a moment to ask? there is a staff fee that is tagged onto the bill, so i'm not sure if they're told to be Extremely attentive, but it was way too much. the waiter seemed to be busy with many tables so there wasn't much from them, but was friendly when we did interact. overall, good food but the chaotic service and close proximity to others does bring it down. leaning more of a 3.5/5 rating, but sticking with a 3 since i wouldn't make it a Must Eat during a future visit to SF

ordered 3 appetizers and 3 larger plates. overall the food is good. the service is great and our server Rafa was helpful and funny. decent street parking and the area is quite residential. i think the star of the dinner was actually the mozzarella /focaccia appetizer. i wish it came with 1-2 more bread sticks to even out the huge dollop of sauce and cheese. the chicken spiedini was a tad overcooked in my opinion but still tasted fine. not pictured. we ordered the pork shoulder. the moroccan braised chicken (broth like). and the skirt steak. with the exception of the skirt steak, the meat dishes were all a little too soft. no crunches to even out the textures range. i enjoy softer foods but it all started to taste a little similar- which is funny considering we're ordering three different types of proteins, i think. lastly- since it was someone in my party's birthday, and we noted that on the reservation, it would have been nice to receive a little complimentary something. but i'm not going to really look into that one too much because every restaurant is different. i think the main appeal of this restaurant is that it's a good place to have a few drinks (from beer and wine list) and share a few appetizers. i would come here again to do so- but for a birthday, or a more celebratory event, i would opt to try a different restaurant.

Came here on a Wednesday night for a party of 5 and a doggy. We were able to wait inside with some wine and the Marina Mojito while we waited the last of our party to arrive. We were seated outside and it was intimate since it was just our table. We got the following to share with the table: * Grilled Painted Hills Ranch Skirt Steak with Potato-Leek Gratin, Sautéed Broccoli & Horseradish Chimichurri for $37. This was SUPER delicious! * Marina Mojito with Muffled lemon, fresh mint, passion fruit, ice and soda * Saffron Arancini with Spicy Tomato Sauce (not spicy but tasty), Fontina, Mozzarella & Pecorino for $14 * Sautéed Sugar Snap Peas with Lemon Zest, Butter, Shallots, Urfa, Mint & Pecorino for $18 * Fettuccine with Beef Bolognese, Tomato, Cream & Parmesan but they accommodated our table and made it vegetarian $29/19. Technically this would be a 4.5 but only because two of our friends had plans elsewhere and I was hoping to get dessert but our waitress never came back. My friends husband paid for our meal discreetly after we had decided to pass on dessert due to timing.

Came here during SF Restaurant week. The menu was an incredible deal considering the quality of the food, as well as including a wine pairing for each course. The restaurant itself is tucked away on a not so busy street just off of Fillmore and is quite unassuming were you to just walk by it. Our server was really great at answering our questions about the menu and making sure all the courses came out together (we were a group of 6). Seating was comfortable and cozy and there are options for outdoor seating, weather permitting. This definitely seems like a neighborhood spot as I overheard the wait staff welcome regulars and ask them how they were doing and if they were going to get "the usual". Glad we tried it out during restaurant week and would definitely come back

Looking for a nice, predictable, chic restaurant (love the floral arrangements)? This is your place. The service is jovial and candid so I am rounding my 3.5 star rating up to 4. One bummer about this place is that they only serve wine/beer. But the floor plan and ambiance are nice for a date that you're trying to impress or a business dinner with contrasting palette preferences. Apps were good, but not incredible. The hummus and bruschetta were fresh. The meatball was average as the polenta lacked any depth of flavor. For mains, I got the chicken, again it was decent but nothing memorable. The flavors could be a little more dynamic and bold. Overall I recommend but this spot won't blow your socks off.

What a phenomenal SF Restaurant Week! The menu is creative with fresh ingredients (seasonal highlights too). Would certainly recommend on food alone Grilled Persimmon Bruschetta (regular menu) 5/5 - delicious caramelization and the bread was crispy. Ordered the prosciutto on the side Zucchini carpaccio (RW menu app) 5/5 - fresh and nutty and so good with the manchego Fried Brussel sprouts (RW menu app) 4/5 - solid charred flavor but some were a bit soft and over cooked Butternut squash risotto (RW menu entree) 5/5 - creamy and nice texture with soft butternut squash chunks Braised beef brisket (RW menu entree) 4.5/5 - generous portion of beef that was so tender. A little bit salty and the veggies were slightly over cooked but overall still delicious Almond cake with whipped cream (RW menu dessert) 5/5 - soft and flavorful without being too sweet or overpowering. Almond flavor was nice Vanilla bean rice pudding (RW menu dessert) 3.5/5 - not pictured but average flavor and not too much vanilla bean. Had a couple cherries to accompany I came to celebrate a birthday and it was a lovely upscale spot. Staff was very friendly and even towards closing did not rush our meal. What an awesome meal of three courses per person for $50 (and additional three wine pairings for $25)

Enjoyable fare, quick service and enchanting ambience I'm not sure my water went lower than about 3/4 full. Nice place to get a few small plates, the dessert was the winner. Had the whole back room to ourselves. Would go again!

The Space was very nice, some brick walls, not crazy major loud, nice looking bar and space - not over crowded seating. Good for a date. Our waiter kept touching my back which is fine i guess but it was a little much for me. We ordered cauliflower soup, it was really good but we had barely taken two spoons of it when our waiter came by and swooped my friends soup to the trash .. we didnt dare say anything. We ordered those arancini things , beet salad, and mushroom polenta. The mushroom polenta was so good..! My friend had ordered 3 scallops but she was given 4 - not sure what we were charged. The desert chocolate lava cake was very good The drinks were ok - should have had wine

The people were laughing, the drinks were flowing. It smelled really good, which we would later find out was from the food especially that Mac and cheese. We started off with different wines, some that Tom recommended based on what we told him we didn't like or did like. He apologized for our previous experience and was genuinely a nice guy. Honestly it's very admirable for a business owner to take feedback to heart and want to incorporate it. Plus he's a really cool guy when you get to know him. The staff was busy running around but still made time to come check on us. Our final verdict is we came on a bad day. This time we got the actual Waystone experience. We finally got to try the chicken bites with a creamy aioli, fries with yogurt sauce, and the star of the show was the Mac and cheese. Tik tok did live up to the hype and we will have to come back for one of their jazz nights. Be warned this place gets busy! But it's worth it.

How good can a meal possibly be? Can it be so good that you never want it to end? Oh my God,…read moreeverything we ate was that good. We. Were. OBSESSED!!! As soon as we walked in, we were welcomed with applause, like everyone was already our friend. We sat at the big communal tables with other groups, and honestly, we loved that experience. I can't remember the name of the potato dish right now, but I included a photo of it--it was the second best potato dish I've ever had in my life. And that octopus... you just want to reach over and hug it because it's too perfect to eat. It was incredibly tender on the inside, with the lightest, crispiest exterior. And that amazing flavor... ahhh, it was so, so good. We also ordered a steak, but I realized I forgot to take a picture of it. It was delicious too. The only bad thing about this place? The portions eventually come to an end. Guys, you seriously need to invent never-ending portions. The churros were amazing too. Every single dish was unique. You could tell so much thought and effort had gone into creating flavors that were anything but ordinary. Even though we were seated about 30 minutes after our reservation, it honestly didn't bother us one bit. I think I could've waited two hours and still thought it was worth it. How did you do this??? How did you manage to get a review like this out of me? Seriously, well done. We'll definitely be back as soon as possible!

I was standing outside of the "store" and a woman opened the door to tell me that they didn't open until 5. I told her that we had a reservation at 5 and that I understood. No way was she going to let me in early to get off the street (in a fairly rough area). Entryway smelled of urine. When the rest of my party arrived, they were closer to 5 but we still had to wait until exactly 5:00 to get in. When we finally got in, the fake, pawn shop front was pretty cute. We got the ceremonious tour and speal and were lead into the back where the bar is. They sat us upstairs in back and let us know that we had 1 hour before we would need to leave for a large party coming in. Limited menu for both drinks and apps. No entrees, couldn't even get a Cabernet. The "large party" coming in to kick us out never materialized. Overall feel was that they didn't want us as customers. Not impressed. I can spend my money in better places.

We're big fans of visiting hotel bars when we travel because they consistently deliver great experiences. This is probably one of the first times we've ever gone to a hotel bar as locals. When we showed up at 4:30 p.m., the bar was completely empty. It wasn't until about 5:30 p.m., when we were leaving, that it really started to fill up. Little did we know, we had actually stopped by right in the middle of Happy Hour, which runs from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Unlike your typical Happy Hour with a limited menu of food and drinks, the menu here is extensive. The entire cocktail list--normally priced around $16 each--is half off. I haven't seen anything like this anywhere in the Bay. People on social media love to use the term "hidden gem" to describe places that are anything but, but Carlotta's is truly a hidden gem. You do not want to sleep on this Happy Hour. The bartender here couldn't have been more fun to chat with, and for the price and quality, the drinks cannot be beat. Can't wait to stop by again.

Once you step through the doors, however, you're greeted by a space that feels both cozy and contemporary, with an effortlessly stylish atmosphere. Even the restroom was thoughtfully designed and remarkably comfortable--a small detail, but one that speaks to the restaurant's overall attention to detail. We began with the Uni Scallop Toast and Mulhwe as appetizers. As someone who is typically not a fan of uni due to its pronounced brininess, I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed the toast. The bright citrus sauce balanced the richness of the uni beautifully, while the contrasting textures from the crisp toast and delicate scallop created a harmonious bite. The scallop also helped mellow the stronger oceanic notes of the uni. It was a creative and memorable dish unlike anything I've had before. The Mulhwe, a Korean-style fish salad, was dressed in a refreshing apple vinaigrette that gave it a light, summery citrus character. The fish itself had a pleasantly chewy texture--firmer than salmon--with no trace of fishiness. While enjoyable, it didn't leave quite the same impression as the uni toast and was my least favorite dish of the evening. For our entrées, we ordered the Galbi Steak and Pork Jowl Bossam. Both dishes showcased exceptional execution. The meats were cooked perfectly, but what stood out even more was the precision in preparation. The steak was expertly sliced and incredibly tender--so much so that even with braces, it was effortless to enjoy. The pork jowl achieved an ideal balance between lean meat and luscious fat, creating a rich yet satisfying bite. We enjoyed the meal so much that dessert was non-negotiable. The Matcha Tiramisu was a creative interpretation of the classic. A dome of mascarpone cheese encased ladyfinger biscuits at its center, accompanied by a vibrant matcha ganache sauce. The dessert leaned far less sweet than traditional tiramisu, allowing the earthy matcha and creamy mascarpone flavors to shine. It was elegant, balanced, and a wonderful way to end the meal. Lastly, the service was outstanding. Our server was soft-spoken, patient, and genuinely attentive throughout the evening, making the experience feel warm and welcoming. Considering the quality of the food, thoughtful presentation, ambiance, and service, I found the pricing to be completely justified. As a pleasant surprise, I later learned that Bansang is part of the same restaurant group behind Daeho--a detail that certainly explains the level of quality we experienced.

The toast, scallops, and uni were all served at the same temperature, and the sauce was barely noticeable, adding little to the dish. A contrast in temperature, texture, or a more pronounced sauce would have made it much more enjoyable. The Scallop & Shrimp Salad was overly sweet, which overpowered the delicate flavors of the seafood. The Chicken Wings were decent, but at 4 wings for $18, they felt overpriced. The Mushroom Silk Tofu was beautifully presented and visually appealing. The Black Cod was cooked perfectly--moist, tender, and flaky. However, while the fish itself was excellent, the sauce was forgettable and didn't leave a lasting impression or elevate the dish. Overall, the food was mediocre. While each dish had potential, the flavors often felt disconnected and lacked harmony. Combined with the expensive price point, the overall dining experience didn't justify the cost. The ambiance is lovely, but I left hoping for a more memorable meal. Wouldn't come back.

Fried Black Cod: Mind-blowing. It was grilled in black rice and paired with a passion fruit sauce. This altered my brain chemistry; one of my favorite bites of the night. GET AGAIN 8. Silken Tofu: I'm not a huge tofu lover, but this house-made version had no strong tofu smell and a smooth, buttery, cheese-like texture. Paired with cubed dashi broth and tomatoes, it melted into a solid soup. Cool concept. GET AGAIN 9. Duck Liver Mousse & Almond Financiers: HOLY. Truly one of the best bites. The mousse was like pure butter paired with delicate almond financiers. A spectacular blend of savory and sweet. FOR SURE WOULD GET AGAIN 10. Potato Fry Bread: Tasted like cheese bread, but the rhubarb and burrata pairing felt a little odd to me. Not my cup of tea. SKIP 11. Pork Belly: Braised with fish sauce, shallots, and peppers. It was a solid, tasty choice, but growing up in an Asian community, I'm exposed to these dishes all the time. Nothing special that you can't find elsewhere. SKIP 12. King Salmon Tartare: Not a hit. The fish quality was good, but the horseradish at the bottom was overwhelming. You can find better options on the menu. SKIP ENTREE 13. State Bird: The HOLIEST OF HOLIES. Truly their iconic dish. This fried quail was mesmerizing, but the lemon broiled onion sauce was HEAVENLY. It highlighted the bird perfectly. A one-of-a-kind way to end the mains! GET AGAIN DESSERT 14. Peanut Milk: Recommended by a friend. They roast the peanuts before blending, so it tastes like Reese's Pieces milk! Slightly nutty, packed with flavor, and refreshing. GET AGAIN 15. Roasted Strawberry Ice Cream Sandwich: This was a real dessert. Roasted strawberry ice cream topped with a black pepper macaron sandwich, rhubarb sauce, and almonds. Mind-blowing balance of textures and flavors. GET AGAIN By the end, I almost exploded but absolutely LOVED my experience at State Bird Provisions! This is exactly what sets the SF fusion scene apart. I'll definitely be back and will tell all my friends! GET AGAIN

I came in knowing nothing about the various dishes they had on karts, which made the experience so much more exciting. My partner and I would peak at every server who passed us and it was such a fun game of I-spy. Would highly recommend the chips and dip. Such a unique experience!
