The place was a bit dark for my bad vision but they had little lamps and I pulled it close to my menu. Place is loud, some people are louder than others but it gave it a "I'm cool" vibe. Our waiter was super nice, he spoke perfect Spanish and complemented our escapulario... he was attentive to our needs and refilled our water without asking. Food was very good. Everything had flavor. We visited Loló on a Thursday, having made a reservation in advance. I'd heard mixed things about this place, but wanted to try it out for myself. The interior was dimly lit with vibrant, colorful decor. The ambiance was lively, but not so loud that we couldn't have a conversation. For starters, we got an order of Guacamole and Fish and Shrimp Ceviche to share between the 4 of us. The Guacamole was tasty and fresh, although I wish the portion size had been larger. The Ceviche was a group favorite, and we ended up getting a second order of this - highly recommend. I asked our server what tacos were most popular, and ordered based on that. Unfortunately, they were sold out of the Tuna Tacon, so I got the Taco Tropical. This was delicious! The fried shrimp was perfectly cooked and the flavors worked so well together. The portion size was small (2 tacos), but that was expected. I also tried one of the Carne Asada Tacos, which was less memorable. Loló is a great spot! The vibe & ambiance cannot be beat. We didn't try the drinks so can't attest to that, but we tried 3 different tacos: fried avocado, fish, & chicken. All 3 were delish! I would have never thought a fried avocado taco would taste so good. The churros were an outstanding final nibble before we left. Fresh out the fryer, nice & warm. So good. Very lively tapas bar with spotlight on elevated tacos. Vibes are chic but also cozy - there's dim lighting so it feels more intimate but there's still ambient noise because everyone's talking it up. The food is on the expensive side, but the flavors were very nice and matched the price point - so I'd say it's worth. Everything was executed pretty well and I was impressed :)) Service was attentive I got up to ask for water and 3 people came up to try and help me! Everyone was super friendly and sweet Hands down I could eat 10 of the tuna tacon by myself it is SO GOOD. They seasoned the tuna well and it's packed with umami flavor that isn't overpowering. It's also cut into a nice thick slab so you get nice chew, and also coated with garnishes and sauce to make it build in complexity and deliciousness as you chew more. It's good by itself but also pairs nicely with the green salsa it comes with. Taco Tropical was also very solid - had a bit fruitier of a flavor than the tuna Shrimp and fish ceviche was also pretty nice - lots of components which makes it fun to eat because your brain takes a while to fully process everything. Pretty solid for Taco Tuesday! Booked a reservation for 5:30 pm only a few days prior. The place is almost empty during the first hour but slowly gets full and loud after. We ordered 4 items of which the Tuna Tacon was a standout. The salmon reduction sauce underneath the perfectly seared tuna was incredible. The other items we ordered were just as expected. I gotta admit though, we should've ordered more. After clocking 20k steps, the amount of food was not enough for me. To be fair, I should've known Lolo is tapas style Mexican food, and I know me better so I should've gone for the "bigger" plates. The service is slowly paced which meant if I were to order more it would not be ready for another 20-25mins. Next time I'll be more prepared. First of all such fun bathrooms, and a must visit for inside the restaurant. The lights!! 4 of the regular entrees (which are still on the smaller/tapas style side) were still enough for our group of four to all be full, and with all of the dishes we ordered being vegetarian I consider this a really big win. All really fun food with lots of little details and amazing sauces--my favorite was the young coconut aguachile because of the super bright spicy green sauce. I haven't stopped thinking about it and will attempt to recreate at home, but I know in my heart it will only be an approximation. And I'm okay with that, because the cooks here are clearly crazy talented. We sat outside, because the interior is so dark and crowded. If you're into that vibe maybe inside seating is nice too, but there's good outdoor tables and nice people watching. Servers all checked in regularly, I think partly because of the attentiveness for the table but also because of how busy it is at this place and the need to quickly shuffle people in and out. Came here last-minute with a group of 5-was able to snag a coveted reservation the day of. The only caveat? It was at 8:15pm (which is late for this Bay Area girl!) We got there and it's a vibe. Come early to get in line or make a reservation or expect crowds. Downstairs is fun. Great drinks with some fun unique ones like pickleball sour or their daily slushy. Octopus is a solid appetizer. Also enjoyed the ceviche--not much shrimp but good seafood flavor. Great tacos. Unique Asian-Mexican fusion like ahi tuna and fried chicken with spicy, flavorful sauces. Also really enjoyed the quesabirria quesadillas. Crunchy, juicy, tasty. Can get loud. Pretty diverse clientele in terms of ages. Will be back. However, this restaurant is Latino owned and it shows. The food is flavorful, the ambience is whimsical yet warm and familiar, and the service is top notch. Where there is ceviche, there is Julie. I've had this place bookmarked for a while now and finally tried it tonight! I came on a Saturday and was not surprised to see a crowd. Lucky for us, our "40 min" no reservation wait ended up only being 15 min! We sat outside, but were not cold at all thanks to the heaters. The employees were all very sweet. They were quick to take our orders/ bring us our food and would periodically check in with us to make sure everything was good! And good it was - the shrimp ceviche was amazing. Friendly staff and service, even when it gets slammed. Servers are cool under pressure. Fun place to catch up with friends, and just be prepared that it can be noisy at times. The restaurant is definitely popular and filled up quickly so get here early if you don't have a reservation and are dying to try this place. The restaurant is located in the Mission, where there's lots of cheap and delicious Mexican food. So I expected Lolo to really stand out...unfortunately the main stand out was the prices. I was disappointed that chips and salsa were not complimentary. The guacamole was ok but definitely not worth the price, when you can make it yourself for way less. I got the chile relleno and was disappointed by the lack of meat inside, as it was supposed to have shrimp and bacon. The main filling was a rice-like texture. Overall the dish had too much going on inside the chile and I prefer a classic chile relleno. The garnishes were beautiful though! We also ordered the birria quesadilla and pozole. The pozole seemed like a fair price, but I was not a huge fan of the chunks of pork. The birria quesadilla was 16$ and my favorite item, but again, the price was not worth it because you could get it down the street for less. I think Lolo is a good option if you want to eat Mexican food in a cute restaurant and have nicely plated dishes. But nothing beats an unpretentious, hole in the wall Mexican joint, imo. read more

Unfortunately, our table was in their downstairs space which felt a bit like a frat house, smelled like a bathroom, and was quite noisy. The ceviche was good but not amazing-- I think I would have preferred the shrimp cut into slightly smaller pieces (rather than whole), but it was well seasoned & was a pretty large portion. The chips were thick, crunchy, and fresh. Lolo does Asian-fusion tacos, which I didn't realize until trying them. I wasn't a fan of the fish tacos, which had a nutty sauce on top similar to hoisin & peanut sauce. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the taco tropical & tuna tacon. The tuna tacos had a sort of teriyaki glaze & were reminiscent of a sushi roll-- delicious. Buzzing spot for Mexican food in the Mission. There's tons of vegetarian options but what stood out to me the most were the mushroom empanadas. They were crispy, slightly buttery and very cheesy. I really liked them. For dessert I enjoyed the churros which were crisp on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside and came with a generous serving of six. It's a very popular spot so it's not easy to get a table on a Friday evening. It took around 45 minutes to get a table for three outside on Friday around 8:30 p.m. to give you an idea! We ordered drinks and esquires to start. My husband ordered the mango drink with whiskey, and I ordered the orange crush they were both so good! This is just overpriced and the flavors did not blow my mind so no, I would not come back for the tacos. We also ordered the elote and it just tasted like it was straight out of the can.
