well! this was an experience! the atmosphere was dark, romantic. booths lined the walls with tables and seats to accompany them. they were very close together. very. so close i could hear the conversations of both neighbors even with all the noise around. the food was tasty! no complaints there. pricier side but i felt the portions and quality were fair. i overheard the menu does change often, due to the local selection, so these options may not be there when you go! the wait staff did make the experience feel rushed and alarming. at one point i was actively eating off a dish that was grabbed and pulled away. sorry but hello? can't take a second to look and see i'm eating? can't take a moment to ask? there is a staff fee that is tagged onto the bill, so i'm not sure if they're told to be Extremely attentive, but it was way too much. the waiter seemed to be busy with many tables so there wasn't much from them, but was friendly when we did interact. overall, good food but the chaotic service and close proximity to others does bring it down. leaning more of a 3.5/5 rating, but sticking with a 3 since i wouldn't make it a Must Eat during a future visit to SF

Chicken spiedini

ordered 3 appetizers and 3 larger plates. overall the food is good. the service is great and our server Rafa was helpful and funny. decent street parking and the area is quite residential. i think the star of the dinner was actually the mozzarella /focaccia appetizer. i wish it came with 1-2 more bread sticks to even out the huge dollop of sauce and cheese. the chicken spiedini was a tad overcooked in my opinion but still tasted fine. not pictured. we ordered the pork shoulder. the moroccan braised chicken (broth like). and the skirt steak. with the exception of the skirt steak, the meat dishes were all a little too soft. no crunches to even out the textures range. i enjoy softer foods but it all started to taste a little similar- which is funny considering we're ordering three different types of proteins, i think. lastly- since it was someone in my party's birthday, and we noted that on the reservation, it would have been nice to receive a little complimentary something. but i'm not going to really look into that one too much because every restaurant is different. i think the main appeal of this restaurant is that it's a good place to have a few drinks (from beer and wine list) and share a few appetizers. i would come here again to do so- but for a birthday, or a more celebratory event, i would opt to try a different restaurant.

Visiting from Los Angeles, this restaurant wasn't far from the hotel and we decided to give it a try. Upon entering, the hostess was immediately attentive and warm and seated us at the bar as we had no reservation for dinner on a Saturday night. The bar is spacious and more than comfortable to have a meal at. Our waiter was just as attentive and was friendly and just had the best vibe! We ordered beets with labne as an appetizer, and it came out quickly and was a delicious start to our meal. We ordered and shared the steak and chicken and both did not disappoint! Both dishes were absolutely delicious! Steak was tender and flavorful, potatoes were amazing and the chicken was just as good, with a creamy sauce over the rice that was almost like a deconstructed rosemary chicken soup. Brilliant! We were only in town for the weekend, but would definitely come back on our next trip. 5 stars for incredible service and amazing meals!

Came here on a Wednesday night for a party of 5 and a doggy. We were able to wait inside with some wine and the Marina Mojito while we waited the last of our party to arrive. We were seated outside and it was intimate since it was just our table. We got the following to share with the table: * Grilled Painted Hills Ranch Skirt Steak with Potato-Leek Gratin, Sautéed Broccoli & Horseradish Chimichurri for $37. This was SUPER delicious! * Marina Mojito with Muffled lemon, fresh mint, passion fruit, ice and soda * Saffron Arancini with Spicy Tomato Sauce (not spicy but tasty), Fontina, Mozzarella & Pecorino for $14 * Sautéed Sugar Snap Peas with Lemon Zest, Butter, Shallots, Urfa, Mint & Pecorino for $18 * Fettuccine with Beef Bolognese, Tomato, Cream & Parmesan but they accommodated our table and made it vegetarian $29/19. Technically this would be a 4.5 but only because two of our friends had plans elsewhere and I was hoping to get dessert but our waitress never came back. My friends husband paid for our meal discreetly after we had decided to pass on dessert due to timing.

Came here during SF Restaurant week. The menu was an incredible deal considering the quality of the food, as well as including a wine pairing for each course. The restaurant itself is tucked away on a not so busy street just off of Fillmore and is quite unassuming were you to just walk by it. Our server was really great at answering our questions about the menu and making sure all the courses came out together (we were a group of 6). Seating was comfortable and cozy and there are options for outdoor seating, weather permitting. This definitely seems like a neighborhood spot as I overheard the wait staff welcome regulars and ask them how they were doing and if they were going to get "the usual". Glad we tried it out during restaurant week and would definitely come back

Looking for a nice, predictable, chic restaurant (love the floral arrangements)? This is your place. The service is jovial and candid so I am rounding my 3.5 star rating up to 4. One bummer about this place is that they only serve wine/beer. But the floor plan and ambiance are nice for a date that you're trying to impress or a business dinner with contrasting palette preferences. Apps were good, but not incredible. The hummus and bruschetta were fresh. The meatball was average as the polenta lacked any depth of flavor. For mains, I got the chicken, again it was decent but nothing memorable. The flavors could be a little more dynamic and bold. Overall I recommend but this spot won't blow your socks off.

Grilled Persimmon bruschetta

What a phenomenal SF Restaurant Week! The menu is creative with fresh ingredients (seasonal highlights too). Would certainly recommend on food alone Grilled Persimmon Bruschetta (regular menu) 5/5 - delicious caramelization and the bread was crispy. Ordered the prosciutto on the side Zucchini carpaccio (RW menu app) 5/5 - fresh and nutty and so good with the manchego Fried Brussel sprouts (RW menu app) 4/5 - solid charred flavor but some were a bit soft and over cooked Butternut squash risotto (RW menu entree) 5/5 - creamy and nice texture with soft butternut squash chunks Braised beef brisket (RW menu entree) 4.5/5 - generous portion of beef that was so tender. A little bit salty and the veggies were slightly over cooked but overall still delicious Almond cake with whipped cream (RW menu dessert) 5/5 - soft and flavorful without being too sweet or overpowering. Almond flavor was nice Vanilla bean rice pudding (RW menu dessert) 3.5/5 - not pictured but average flavor and not too much vanilla bean. Had a couple cherries to accompany I came to celebrate a birthday and it was a lovely upscale spot. Staff was very friendly and even towards closing did not rush our meal. What an awesome meal of three courses per person for $50 (and additional three wine pairings for $25)

Enjoyable fare, quick service and enchanting ambience I'm not sure my water went lower than about 3/4 full. Nice place to get a few small plates, the dessert was the winner. Had the whole back room to ourselves. Would go again!

Absolutely delicious. Rafael was our waiter and was super helpful and friendly. Dimly lit nice restaurant around Cow Hollow and PH. Each dish was special and we had a great time.

The Space was very nice, some brick walls, not crazy major loud, nice looking bar and space - not over crowded seating. Good for a date. Our waiter kept touching my back which is fine i guess but it was a little much for me. We ordered cauliflower soup, it was really good but we had barely taken two spoons of it when our waiter came by and swooped my friends soup to the trash .. we didnt dare say anything. We ordered those arancini things , beet salad, and mushroom polenta. The mushroom polenta was so good..! My friend had ordered 3 scallops but she was given 4 - not sure what we were charged. The desert chocolate lava cake was very good The drinks were ok - should have had wine

The place was a bit dark for my bad vision but they had little lamps and I pulled it close to my menu. Place is loud, some people are louder than others but it gave it a "I'm cool" vibe. Our waiter was super nice, he spoke perfect Spanish and complemented our escapulario... he was attentive to our needs and refilled our water without asking. Food was very good. Everything had flavor. They have a full bar. If I can complain about anything... no coffee. I'm eating churros for dessert without coffee or cafe de olla. Please add this to the menu. Again.. I shall return.

The interior was dimly lit with vibrant, colorful decor. The ambiance was lively, but not so loud that we couldn't have a conversation. For starters, we got an order of Guacamole and Fish and Shrimp Ceviche to share between the 4 of us. The Guacamole was tasty and fresh, although I wish the portion size had been larger. The Ceviche was a group favorite, and we ended up getting a second order of this - highly recommend. I asked our server what tacos were most popular, and ordered based on that. Unfortunately, they were sold out of the Tuna Tacon, so I got the Taco Tropical. This was delicious! The fried shrimp was perfectly cooked and the flavors worked so well together. The portion size was small (2 tacos), but that was expected. I also tried one of the Carne Asada Tacos, which was less memorable. For dessert, we shared the Flan - so well-executed, one of the best I've had in recent years. Service was friendly and efficient. Overall, I really liked Loló for dinner!

The people were laughing, the drinks were flowing. It smelled really good, which we would later find out was from the food especially that Mac and cheese. We started off with different wines, some that Tom recommended based on what we told him we didn't like or did like. He apologized for our previous experience and was genuinely a nice guy. Honestly it's very admirable for a business owner to take feedback to heart and want to incorporate it. Plus he's a really cool guy when you get to know him. The staff was busy running around but still made time to come check on us. Our final verdict is we came on a bad day. This time we got the actual Waystone experience. We finally got to try the chicken bites with a creamy aioli, fries with yogurt sauce, and the star of the show was the Mac and cheese. Tik tok did live up to the hype and we will have to come back for one of their jazz nights. Be warned this place gets busy! But it's worth it.

Yes, the wine is excellent..(not selling you 'natural' actively fermenting bottles) thoughtfully curated... the cab franc , interesting without being pretentious. Yes, the bites hit (shoutout to the watermelon salad). But what really makes Waystone magic is the people. Everyone who works here is warm, funny, and present in a way that makes you feel like you belong, whether it's your first visit or your 50th. Live jazz nights here are their own kind of therapy. I once saw a harpist who made me feel like I was floating inside the music. No cover, no pressure, just ridiculously good musicians making the whole place glow. One thing I love: the rotating local art. The walls change every so often as new artists take over, and it completely shifts the energy of the space. You might not love every piece, but that's kind of the point--it's alive, it's personal, and it's supporting real artists in SF. And if you do love something, you can take it home (yep, everything's for sale). Whether you're here for the jazz, the wine, the art, or the people.. waystone shows up with soul. I'd give it six stars if I could.

He came out and said there no tables ready and (begrudgingly) offered we could stand outside for ten minutes in the sketchy street. Not even the lobby. Little did we know, we had actually stopped by right in the middle of Happy Hour, which runs from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Unlike your typical Happy Hour with a limited menu of food and drinks, the menu here is extensive. The entire cocktail list--normally priced around $16 each--is half off. I haven't seen anything like this anywhere in the Bay. People on social media love to use the term "hidden gem" to describe places that are anything but, but Carlotta's is truly a hidden gem. Atmosphere is modern, clean and some elements of korean tradition…read more Service was ok. Seemed pretty busy but the food came out fast. That could be a good or bad thing depending on the vibe you are going for. All the dishes hit their mark for me. We got: Mulhwae: very refreshing white fish sashimi with refreshing greens, citrusy sauce and strawberries. I thought the strawberries added more to the presentation than the taste. However, the dish itself was delicious. Scallops and shrimp: Similar as above, a very refreshing light appetizer. I would get either this of the other because they're kind of the same idea. Potato fritter w/ mentaiko: probably my top 1 or 2 of the night. Think fancy hashbrown with creamy umami pollock row plus more crispy toppings. This is a must-have I would say. Soft tofu soup w/ galbi: I liked the theatrical element of pouring the home-grown soy from Oakland to create the tofu right in front of you. The umami broth and the jang make this dish very rich. Another must have! Pork jowl bossam: this was a delicious take on bossam. Smokey soft jowl. The greens and kimchi accompanied it made this dish taste so healthy while satisfying your craving. If you just love buttery soft tender meat, go for it. However if you like jowl because you like the chew/bounce on every bite, you might be disappointed because this meat is super soft! Drinks: matcha colada was a little too coconuttey for me. It kind of overpowered the taste of any matcha but if you like coconut, this is a perfect visually pleasing and sweet dessert cocktail. The lychee blossom had a pleasant taste of fruit and almost tasted like there was yogurutoo or calpico in it. I much preferred this drink and it was on the sweeter side too. It wasn't too bad for parking and we got seated pretty quickly. They have two lines - one with reservations, one with out. I didn't know what to expect - half the menu is available on a menu and the others come around in a dim sum style cart. The only negative is we weren't able to remember what we ate off the cart as it changes from day to day as they decide based on what they can gather. So some of my pics don't have names but overall everything was AMAZING. HIGHLY recommend to go with 4 people so you can have a bite of each item. Some we ordered two - like the potstickers so we can each have half of each but otherwise we could share each of the little plates and because there's four of us we could try pretty much ALL what was offered in the dim sum carts! LOL My favorites definitely was the hog island oysters with sauerkraut, duck liver mousse, the CA state bird (Quail) - you order that off the menu and the Octopus pancakes (also off menu). OH and we loved the potato chips and trout dip! DELICIOUS!! My most favorite was the short ribs - so tender and the sauce - AMAZING. Luckily the order came with 4 ribs so we all got one!! If I weren't so stuffed I would have enjoyed another one!! LOL... The quail was crunchy with lots of tender meat. And we all enjoyed the beets. The only miss for me was the Caesar salad. It was a bit too tangy for me - loved the different textures but I could easily skip this one. Everyone was so friendly and patient. Love the concept and the "experience". And I now want to make sure we come back given some of the items are the same but I love how they change up the dim sum offerings!

The chefs were wonderful to chat with and the service was attentive and even gave us a free small dessert since we had to wait too long for our Roti Morel mushroom dish. Like others have said, they do things "dim sum" style, but since this was our first time it felt hard to say no to some of the dishes but I kind of regret doing so because it didn't give me enough room to enjoy the dishes you could order off the menu. I would say our favorites were the trout dip and the scallops, but honestly as nice as everything was, I left a little underwhelmed. Having been to a few other Michelin starred restaurants I think I was hoping to be "wowed" by the experience but felt like the food was good but many dishes weren't totally memorable. I hate to say it but I think there are some hole in the wall joints that offer more gratifying, unique and tasteful dishes than what I had here which I'm disappointed to say. Off day maybe?
