Service goes out constantly. 8/21 I lost 3 hours of work due to Service outage and as I write this, theres again NO SERVICE. 8/21 I also asked customer service to send me an email about outage to submit to my boss. I wouldn't have even selected one star but, they make you pick at least one. Our town was excited to have the ability to get broadband. When they first began we had to pay $500 "start up" fee. Of course they "underestimated and we had to pay another $300-$500. Of course it was Covid era and we needed internet for homeschooling purposes so, we paid it. Monthly fee went from $70 all the way to $180 per month in less than 5 years. I am not sure why either. Our service has gone out sooo many times with minimal to no correspondence. Zero customer service. I have actually tried to cancel our service for a month and a half via email/text/written letter without one response! I ended up having more than TRIPPLE the connection that I had before the updated install. This service was performed Quickly and professionally with NO added charges. I was blown away with this gift. Have had CalDSL/Matrix for a very long time. Originally, they were the only company covering our area. Know that this is not a satellite company - they are a daisy chain line-of-sight provider. Sadly, our young walnut orchard has grown to the point where that line of sight is obscured. This is hands down the best company I have ever dealt with. Their technicians are honest and competent, the office staff is caring and responsive, and the owner has made personal visits when we've had issues. I was sad to learn they could no longer serve us. Let's start with their severe lack of customer service. If you need to call them and you will they won't answer. I don't care what day it is. You also have an option to email them. No response from there either.! Now the service. It's sucks... it will work for a week or two out of the month. I left CalDSL searching for a faster network speed. Got conned into using Hughsnet.net. OMG! I suffered so much BS and lies from Hughsnet.net. NEVER, ever use them! I came back to CalDSL. This company has never lied to me, they tell me the limitations, they have been very responsive to me and the little issues that had to be worked out as I got connected to their system. Was a customer for about 18 months. Speeds were not even close to what they advertised, particularly during peak usage times (like evenings when people are streaming video). Connection was being lost constantly for significant periods of time. I upgraded to the highest tier, 25Mbs for $125/month. Performance was still awful. Finally my Starlink hardware arrived, so I canceled CalDSL and with Starlink I'm seeing speeds of 125-250Mbs for $99/month, and no outages. What a huge difference! read more

Im paying for their best package and I get outages ALL the time; the internet is slow to begin with. Doesnt make working from home easy at all. No one in customer service ever answers the phone. One star is too much. I'd have better luck standing on my roof holding up a satellite myself. Customer service is nonexistent. They NEVER answer their phones or return messages. They might return emails if they're feeling saucy. But then leave you hanging in the end anyways. They have a 'hotline" if your internet is down so that's cool. But you have to leave a message on that voicemail also which they a don't respond to either . I managed to get a tech out here to do pretend work last week. His uniform of choice was checkered pajama pants and hoodie and the problem didn't get resolved. When we first moved to the country and I tried to get ahold of CalDSL the first time, I called at 11am on a weekday. No answer. Tried again the next day same time, no answer. Went to their office and found a receptionist, term used very loosely. When I asked what their hours were she told me and I quote "I usually wander in about 9:45am" Quite the foreshadowing of things to come I'd say. Anywho, CalDSL really sucks. They are a bad joke. Literally fraud. Every inch of promise they give you is lacking at best. Wifi cuts out for hours to days at end at random. Custom service takes days if not weeks if not months to actually care about you. You're literally paying an overpriced ISP for wifi that barely works and when it does can only handle around 6mbps which is unacceptable for anything. On top of that you're paying for 25mbps and still only getting 6mbps. read more

Doesn't give the connection speed they advertise to their current customers but to their new customers they do. service is down almost every month. latency is extremely high most of the time. The upload speed is less than 1 mbps. Experience it yourself if you don't believe none of us :) read more

The reason why no one answers is because no one is there not even the customer service operator or customer support. I'm sitting in their office waiting. And all I hear is their phone ringing. Go to their office guys (Read the bottom) It's almost a year that I have cal dsl and honestly no. I have auto pay with them and on that they are on track but with the internet they are not. they take their sweet as time to return a call they don't answer their phone calls and they don't reply back on to emails. Honestly I'm done with this provider. I rather go in person to their office and tell them in person myself cause what is the point of leaving a message and emailing them if they don't check either one. If anyone knows a internet provider better than Cal dsl for rural areas please message me cause. no I'm done. I'm not giving up my money for internet that does not work I im giving it for a reason. So he then told me "ok ama have to ask you to go sit down over there for I can pull up your account" (wtf is there something to hide?) so ya ya I went to go sit down where he told me to sit he took like a good 10 min to "pull up my account" he called me over and told me "there is nothing wrong with your internet connection I don't know what the problem is" I then told him that is not the right internet connection speed I am having. Reason why I came here is to fix my internet issue cause that there is not the right internet connection. so idk are they scamming us? Are they controlling our internet connection to limit our internet? cause seriously that was odd to tell me to sit somewhere else when I can't see him pull up an account which is mine what is there to hide. I CONSTANTLY have issues with my internet and we live in a less than 800 sq ft home in the country (but honestly probably three minutes from town). Well after almost a year to date.... Im done. Over the past year I've called a couple times asking for better/faster service. Im paying for the top level that they offer and it barely provides us with what we need. Lots of buffering when watching movies ECT. They always say that we already have the best that they offer. They also tell me you have to turn everything off except the device that you want to use. Well how can I update my Xbox one games when it takes three days to do a simple game update and keep it off? I want internet SO THAT The Devices I own CAN connect and do what they are supposed to do. If that's not possible with there service I'm fine with that but not for Almost 80 dollars a month. I feel 20 dollars is about what this service is worth. Sorry guys but I have tried to make this work I'm looking for a new provider and will not be referring anyone your way. CalDSL is the only alternative(at the moment at least) for high-speed other than satellite in rural Tracy. CalDSL is actually a misnomer as it is cable bandwidth purchased from TimeWarner Telecom, distributed through small WiMax antennas which beam the internet to your house using radio/microwaves. In theory this would be a great service however the problem lies with the knowledge base and customer service base with CalDSL. It is owned by and operated by one man, with a very, very small staff. The "support representative" who you will interface with if you experience any issues, whom I will not name, is far from knowledgeable. The technicians that are dispatched to your house for installation and/or service DO NOT have the necessary certifications to be modifying your home! Do not trust them! Their knowledge of networking and troubleshooting is quite bleak as well; only dabbling the surface of network troubleshooting. I've had several issues with the service, the majority of them being rooted in service stability, and even after providing a great deal of evidence such as traceroute maps, packet loss data, and ping test logs, they blatantly said they don't know what is wrong and do not know how to fix it. This was direct from the owner of the company... I'm a software engineer and I've taken and passed my Network+ exams... and I can assure you this company is essentially a scam. You will get about 80% service uptime with frequent 5-10minute long timeouts. The connection also suffers severe packet loss even though there is no microwave or radio interference. It is simply their terrible load balancing. If you are willing to deal with this and you do not need a RELIABLE, STEADY connection, this may be okay for you. It will load simple pictures, emails, and perhaps even basic web browsing but it is completely incapable of streaming video or music, downloading songs or videos, video conferencing, VPN, or anything else mildly bandwidth intensive. You CANNOT game with this connection. Latency is well above a constant 300ms and spikes past 2000. Most individuals would be better off with a satellite connection or if you can afford it, a Verizon hotspot. I have been with this company MANY years! Customer service in the field is generally good. The billing/office customer service is a completely different story. After a billing issue my service was cut with NO notice. I was told to pay the bill online....yes, online after service was cut off?!?! I also received a response to an email I sent 7 days prior saying it was a billing issue when 7 days earlier it was a service issue with caldsl! Internet company who doesn't check email?! The company is aware I work from home and after so many years sticking with them through numerous, frequent service interruptions I would hope they would check with you personally if suddenly a bill is behind. Great customer service. I was satisfied with the outcome of my trip. I am very eased now that my billing issue has been fixed. Their service is pretty well Mainers and they are an excellent company. Quick and easy issue resolving. I went to their location and met with one of their representatives and was satisfied with their ability to solve the dilema that we had with our internet service. I only recently signed up for CalDSL at my new home in Burson Ca. It's actually wireless internet. I've had 5 or 6 email exchanges with Chau and she has been prompt and helpful explaining the process. I did the setup by myself and I spoke with Kim several times over the phone. She was very polite and helpful. I left messages that were returned in a timely manor and so far I get internet speed I expected. All in all it's been a pleasant experience and I'm happy I have this over something like satellite internet. read more

CalDSL is a good alternative in south San Joaquin County for Internet where you do not have access to a regular service or cable. It is much less expensive than satellite and can provide download speeds of 10 Mbps or higher in quite a few areas. That's plenty of bandwidth for streaming videos in HD in addition to regular Internet surfing. I also use a VPN frequently for work and have had no problems with such connections over the CalDSL service. CalDSL is a very small company so their response to service requests can be slow. That being said, I have always found them to care about the quality of service they deliver to my location. I've been a customer almost since the company started and have needed to have the antennae swapped out a couple of times when those units started to fail. The CalDSL team even came out on Sunday once to take care of that swap. read more

If you live out in the country and want internet service. I would look for something else. Half of the time the service doesn't work. When it doesn't work they will tell you it's your computer or this or that. They always have an excuse for something. Really it is just their service. Customer service is not that great either. Where do I start? I live out in the country, and my neighbor told us that they have dsl through CalDSL. I was very surprised because i have never heard of anyone have DSL out here. So we called them in the beginning of June, and gave them multiple numbers for them to get ahold of us. Finally, after playing the most intense game of phone tag i have ever experienced they set an appointment for the end of June. The installation guy came out and set to work. I dont know anything about installation, so I stayed inside the whole time. He said he was done and he left. I went outside on the porch and saw a HUGE black cord running down the front of my house, then drilled into the stucco to get into the office. So now we have a hole we get to patch in the stucco. there were multiple ways a good installer would have gone differently if they cared about their customers property at all. One, its an old house with a crawl space underneath, simple enough. Or they could have gone in through the attic like any other house. Also, the cord then ran across the carpet of the office to the computer. My dad was furious upon seeing this terrible work, like any normal person would be. So the next day, we call to have them fix it or take it out completely. That was the end of June, or what we call the beginning of the next game of phone tag. The owner of the company seems to only call our house line during the day, when we leave messages specifically asking him to call our cell phone because no one is home during the day. we come home at night to find the message, we call them back, during business hours, and no one answers, so we leave, yet another message. I have never been able to get ahold of them during business hours. So here we are, a month later, still trying to get them to come out and fix our house. We have an appointment for today and i come home from work early to be here for it, and there is a message on the machine saying that we need to call and confirm the appointment to have them come out. I think this is ridiculous because i would not have made this appointment if i could not keep it, and if you are that worried about it, call the cell phone number that i have given you a hundred times! i honestly think this is one of the worst companies i have ever dealt with. i would MUCH RATHER prefer slow dial up than having to deal with them. Please take this review into consideration before hiring them!!!! This company is nothing but trouble. There are too many things to complain about when it comes to customer service and quality of the service itself. They seem to never return calls, nor pick up again after I had finally gotten through to them to have a conversation about how my internet had stopped working. They will automatically say "did you power cycle everything?" Which is the first thing anyone does. After that the person says "disconnect the little box thing" (exact words) "to see if that does anything". So, it was their equipment that had messed up, I reset it and now I have internet again! Yay right? No, I have what amounts to 56k phone line speeds from the dawn of Internet times. I can't even go to speedtest.net because it is too slow to load the ads, let alone the actual site itself. No, Netflix will never work with CalDSL, no you cannot play XBOX Live, yes you can download music and videos, if you can wait 3-4 days. iPad apps? No, gotta wait for those to load for a few hours. In fact, my 4g iphone 5 loads anything and everything faster than CalDSL ever can. No you can't watch YouTube either... If I could give 0 stars... Do Not Use CalDSL unless the only thing you need to do is read your email. (Oh but no picture or video emails) read more
