I'm a huge Matcha fan, so when I saw I was close to a shop called Matcha Magic, I knew I had to stop in! How I heard of this place: My sister and I were walking around downtown Bellevue and found what sounded like a gem amidst the restaurants and shops. We decided to step inside for our first visit. A couple of open-faced toasts and a granola/fruit bowls are available for small bites. Ambiance: Cute, whimsical and flighty, the space was immediately intriguing. We were loving the cool and minimalist vibes, as well as the limited number of customers at the time of our visit. What I ordered: Ube Matcha Latte ($9) - matcha + house-made ube syrup + plant milk. It ended up having no sweetness, all bitter and even a somewhat burnt quality that completely destroyed the beauty of matcha. I'm not sure if it's because I didn't stick with the ceremonial matcha and decided to try something new and fun, or if the staff need additional training, or what, but it was truly the worst matcha I've ever had. I forced myself to take the second and third sip - due to the high price tag - as my sister gagged hers down. I took mine to go, hoping it would get better with time; but my sister finally took it from me and threw it out in the first rubbish bin we came across. As an avid matcha lover, I knew I had to give Matcha Magic a try. Matcha Magic is also women and BIPOC-owned and so I was even more incentivized to support the business. I've passed by it multiple times while in Downtown Bellevue but never had the chance to stop in for a drink. However, I decided after an early workout class that today was the day. I arrived at 8:04am on a weekday. Note that Matcha Magic opens at 8am. However, I think the workers were running slightly behind schedule as they hadn't even turned on the lights yet. With that said, they welcomed me inside and took my order within 5 minutes of arriving. I got my drink within 10 minutes after ordering. Matcha Magic has lots of different matcha drink combinations including matcha with ube, matcha with pineapple, and matcha with horchata. They also just have classic matcha if you're a matcha purist. After perusing the menu, I opted for a STRAWBERRY MATCHA LATTE (+$6.50) with oat milk as I wanted something just a little sweet to get through the rest of the day. If you're familiar with Boba Guys in CA, their signature Strawberry Matcha Latte is one of my favorite drinks. Strawberry and matcha are just an amazing combination. Note that the strawberry matcha latte only comes in a 16-oz iced option. With tax, the drink came out to a little over $7 plus tip. While slightly on the pricey side, it is definitely not outrageous as many bubble tea places charge about $7 for a bubble tea these days. Then again, the cups are usually 20-oz vs 16-oz. The other matcha drinks were surprisingly anywhere from $0.50 to $2 more except for the regular ceremonial matcha which was also $6.50 for 16-oz. The STRAWBERRY MATCHA LATTE was beautifully presented with perfect layers of matcha, oat milk, and strawberry puree. Also, I'm not sure why, but crushed ice makes all the difference in an iced latte! When I took my first sip, I just got strawberry puree which was pretty sweet and slightly tangy However, after thoroughly mixing the layers together, the sweetness level was perfect! Note that I usually prefer my drinks between 30-50% sweetness. While other reviewers have commented that the matcha tastes watered down, I didn't have that issue. I could taste both the bitterness from the matcha as well as the sweet fruitiness from the strawberry puree. The atmosphere is casual and trendy. The cafe walls are plastered with green and pink floral wallpaper and the interior furniture and decor follow the same green and pink color theme. They also have a couple of neon lines that state "I love you so matcha" and "It's in the magic". While the cafe is on the smaller side, it would definitely be a cool place to work or study. Overall: 4/5 for drink, 4/5 for service, 4/5 for atmosphere read more

The ube matcha latte and the purple haze (matcha, black goji, reishi) were very pleasant in their flavours. I always wanted to swing by Matcha Magic and finally did! Yay! They have a vast menu with way too many wonderful options which are also customizable. I got their strawberry glaze smoothie. There was just one person handling the counter and the drinks and was really doing a phenomenal job given the number of people that were walking in! The cafe in itself is really cute with nice seating and an egg chair which was in high demand. I also requested them to not add the tremella mushroom to my drink as I don't really like the taste. But there were too many strawberry glaze orders and I think it got mixed up as I could clearly taste mushroom in mine (not overpowering though). These smoothies also have collagen in them (fan!). I stopped by here this morning for a treat since this had been on my try list for a while. I was not disappointed! The location is a prime spot in old town bellevue off the main street. There is parking right west of the building but the lot was packed and full so plan ahead if you are hoping to just stop by. The ambiance of the store itself is cutesy modern with bright lights and stylish seating. It's a great place to meet a friend or for that first date meet up. The service was good, the expert at the counter was kind and answered my questions/ made recs honestly. My drinks also came out fast, but to be fair there was only me and one other customer. The drinks were DELISH!!! I ordered the ube matcha and strawberry matcha. I was skeptical since all their drinks are plant based milk and I love dairy, but the combo of flavors was bomb and the matcha was smooth, not bitter and perfectly concentrated. The only downside is the amount of ice made the drink short lived. Pricing was pricier at $16 for 2 drinks. I would have loved a bit more drink and less ice for that cost which is why they get 4 stars. While we visited for the yelp elite event, we decided to start with their ceremonial matcha. I spied a bamboo whisk near the sink, and the counter person informed us that it is normally made with just hot water. Magic words to my ears! It has been difficult to find any place that makes ceremonial matcha the right way. No, we didn't have the option of having koicha, but the 12 oz usucha had enough matcha, was not clumpy at all, and tasted quite nice. Finalllllyyyyyy made it to Matcha Magic yesterday and all I can say is: WOW. TBH I'm not the world's biggest matcha fan. I mean, I'll consume it but it's not necessarily my #1 ingredient choice. But I was determined to stay the course and try some of the magic at this newish Bellevue spot. It was a typical cold, rainy November day and I was shivering after the dreary walk from my car, so I grabbed a hot white chocolate matcha mocha for myself (DELISH!) and grabbed their photogenic iced matcha/ube drink to go for my daughter. While I was waiting for my drinks, they even offered me a gorgeous (and free!) acai bowl that someone else had ordered and not picked up. Or maybe the sweet MM team made it by mistake and couldn't sell it. Regardless, I was the winner 'cuz I got to take this beautiful bowl of delish home and share it for dinner! My daughter and I both loved the drinks and the bowl, and I'm pleased to announce that matcha has suddenly become a more favorite ingredient. This has become one of the most popular tea shops in Bellevue. From their Instagram-worthy interior to their creative menu and aesthetic drinks, everything about Matcha Magic is pleasing to the eye and will surely draw you in. There are many options including lattes, tonics and "potions" which are enhanced with nutritional supplements. Look out for the little thumb icon throughout the menu which indicates the recommendations. I have visited on two different occasions and ordered a different drink each time: + MATCHAMALLOW LATTE ($7, 16 oz. iced): This is a simple mix of matcha, marshmallow flavoring & a plant milk of choice. The cashier recommended oat milk, so I went with that and my drink tasted kind of like an oatmeal cookie. I was pleasantly surprised for the most part. It was an ideal sweetness, very smooth, somewhat refreshing and had perfect light ice as requested. Unfortunately, the oat milk took over. I barely tasted any matcha which should really be the foundation of the drink. + PINEAPPLE MATCHA LATTE ($6.50, 16 oz. iced): I got this specifically for their homemade pineapple jam. While the default milk option would have been oat, I went with coconut milk per the cashier's suggestion and anticipated it would taste like a piña colada. My drink was fully ready before I was even done processing payment, so service was super quick! I loved the layered look of the drink, but mixed it up well before taking the first sip. The pineapple jam was a little pulpy and dominated the flavor. It was still a refreshing drink, but turned out to be another weak matcha. For those looking for a true matcha drink, you may have better luck with the Matcha Latte and Dirty Matcha Latte. These are more straightforward without the other frills and my companions said the matcha came through. Pricing is definitely on the steeper end (three drinks were $20 before tax), but it's likely due to the use of plant milks and quality ceremonial matcha. You may be wondering why I still gave the shop four stars. Even though the matcha flavor in my drinks was extremely subtle, I enjoyed both of them. I will admit that if my drink tasted too strongly of matcha, I may have been put off by it. It's all about personal preference. I love this place!! Their food and drinks are all so yummy!! I love the creative drinks. They sound like weird mixes and for most of them I questioned if they'd be good but they didn't disappoint! I came here with my cousins and we all ordered different things so we can try a variety of things! There wasn't a single thing I didn't like! I definitely wanna come back to try their other drinks. I also love the vibe and decor! Everything is so cute. There's plenty of seating. And it's also quiet and chill so it's a great spot to get some work done. Definitely recommend checking this place out! One downside is that the entrance isn't wheelchair or stroller friendly. There's no ramp to go up to the entrance. There's a big step that you'd have to lift a stroller up to and it would be extremely difficult to get a wheelchair up. When in the Bellevue area, Matcha Magic is my to-go spot for a solid matcha latte. I've visited twice in a few weeks - first on a Weekday around 11 AM, and second on a Saturday around 2 PM. This area of town gets hectic and tight on parking around lunchtime, but there are a few parking options around here. There's a small lot next to the front entrance and a few parking spaces behind the store on NE 1st Place (in front of Inspire Properties). Matcha Magic offers validation for both of these spots. I've also gotten spots at either of the Downtown Bellevue Park parking lots, which are free and super close by. Coming into Matcha Magic, I immediately loved how bright and cute the interior was - with a decent amount of tables and chairs that made it a good place to chat with a small group of friends. On the weekday, the store was nearly empty, whereas the weekend brought in a lot more patrons. Both times, my drink came out in a matter of minutes after ordering. I absolutely LOVED the Ube Matcha Latte here, so much so that I ordered it during both visits. I was worried that one flavor would completely overpower the other, but their recipe yields a perfect ube-to-matcha ratio that lets you taste equal amounts in each sip (as long as you mix before you drink). Cute ass cafe in charming Old Main Bellevue, didn't know you can do so much with matcha. I got the strawberry matcha drink, but I'll be back to try their other popular choices such as ube matcha and horchata matcha. To Washington's standard, it's a small place, but after coming back from New York where everything is not only tiny, it's also dirty(I think people call that "character"), this place is actually spacious compared to all the drink places I've been to in New York where it's mostly only built for to-go, I appreciate how new and clean everything looks here.
