(long-overdue post) I really really wished we had a location in SC Matcha Cafe Maiko is going to be a must on every trip to/through Georgia. If you're a matcha fanatic like I, you'll be head-over-heels in love with this place. The interior is cute & small. The young man who took our order wasn't rude or anything, just not very friendly I guess? Lol it didn't matter much after we got our drinks, I was in heaven. The soft serve is top tier & has a great matcha flavor. I mean, just look at the color. & I'm still craving that banana brûlée matcha to this day!! We'll be back for sure!
Everything was just ok. The matcha wouldn't have been that great without the strawberry component. The customer service was ok. The place itself is cute.
This place is so cute and pretty! We went to try their new mango items and it was really good! We got the mango sticky rice sundae and strawberry matcha- both were delicious! Unfortunately I went to get the mango soft serve but they were out, but hopefully next time they have it. Service was also really fast!
I always get the hojicha latte and it's so flavorful. It has a very gentle taste and it's sooo refreshing. If you're looking for something that more mellow with less caffeine, I would highly recommend! I did notice that their lattes are made with a pre-made tea base so if you're looking for something fresher and made on-the-spot, I would take that into consideration.
Been to Matcha Maiko a few times and the quality is always consistent. The pandan soft serve is good, but I wish the flavor was stronger. The matcha soft serve is smooth, creamy, and super yummy, but my friends and I agree that the ube flavor is even better. The banana pudding is very sweet and comes topped with banana slices and vanilla wafers. Putting it on top of ice cream is a fun concept, but I got sick of the sweetness of it all pretty quick. Overall, this is a solid spot for soft serve with great texture and flavors.
Love, love, love cafe maiko. I'm such a matcha fan and this place does not disappoints. Their ice cream is soft serve and it's delicious. I get the matcha flavor and it has a waffle cone. My son loves their classic vanilla one. They usually have some season flavors and offerings as well. My husband tried vanilla and banana pudding last time which was delicious and was part of their seasonal menu. They also have drinks like smoothies and lattes as well. Their service is fast and efficient. They are usually very busy and have a line but it goes fast and the employees at the cash register are pretty fast at getting the order ready. This location is pretty small but they have two really cute tables that are the Asian style sitting on the floor. As well as a few regular tables and chairs . Many people also do to go orders as well.
I love coming here whenever I feel like treating myself to something unique. Although known for their matcha, I actually come here for their seasonal flavors/items. They generally rotate new flavors in, usually based on what's trending at the current time I assume? But some flavors they've rotated are ube, Vietnamese coffee, mango, Thai tea, black sesame etc. I love that you can get a mix of the seasonal flavor with matcha or with vanilla in soft serve. I also love that they usually do a drink variation as well. They also continue to serve their seasonal items in their freezer section even once they go out of the rotation! You can find a variety of different flavors in pre packaged pint containers in their freezer. What recently brought me back was their mango sticky rice. I got both the mango sticky rice sundae and the mango sticky rice slushie. I loved both and love that they include real mango. The only downside I think is that their menu is a bit pricey. But since I only come for seasonal items every now and then, definitely worth it!
I ordered the Mango sticky rice with mango ice cream. So tasty. The rice was well cooked and infused with the sauce. The mango ice cream was refreshing and light. The bad? Super crowded and unorganized. Inconsistent in product. I also witnessed a worker dropping a sticky rice ball on the counter and she just scooped it up and put it on someone's order. Questionable what else would be done? Suggestion: properly update IG page
Food I tried the mango sticky rice and it was delicious. I wish I went with vanilla ice cream but the mango ice cream was still good. The rice was soft and it was well crafted. Wish they would keep this on the menu longer but I can't wait for it to come back. Note that my fiancé stole it from me so I only had a few bites but it goes to show it impressed her.. Service It was pretty busy and packed. Thankfully, it was quick to order but it did take awhile to get my order. Ambiance I don't like their set up as it makes for a tight space and I couldn't figure out where the line was because people were everywhere. Try to avoid it during busy times if you like breathing space.
Love the matcha drinks and soft serve here. The soft serve has so much flavor without being too sweet. The cones are nice and crunchy, adding a good flavor to the soft serve. They have take home pints of the ice cream too. The matcha and ube flavors are my favorite. They can get pretty busy on weekends and late nights, so I usually grab it to go. You can scan their QR code and order too instead of waiting in the line to order.
Upon entering, this is one busy spot. They have seating but since it is a bit crowded and small it can get quite loud. So we took it to go instead. My matcha latte with Ube soft serve was absolutely delightful. It is a bit on the pricier end but for the quality you are getting, I highly recommend!

Good place to get your matcha-flavored sweet fix. This is actually my second encounter with this chain; I first experienced it a few years ago when vacationing in Honolulu with my family. I must say, even though it has its own storefront with interior seating, this location is underwhelming compared to the Matcha Stand Maiko in Honolulu. You would think it's consistent across different locations if it's a chain, but the Maiko Special is less appealing here. The red bean had more of a jelly consistency than solid red beans in syrup texture. The matcha flavored soft serve also seemed less strong/flavorful? Don't get me wrong, it's still a great option if you love matcha and live in the area. I also like the revolving seasonal flavors they have, since it adds variety to an otherwise consistent menu. This wouldn't be my first dessert place of choice to return to, but it's pretty good for what it is. I tried the durian flavored soft serve during my visit here, and it's pretty accurate. Has the durian flavor without the strong smell, which is great. However, at the time of writing this review, I think it's already been displaced by the next seasonal flavor. If it ever returns, I'll probably pay Matcha Cafe Maiko a visit again. read more
Main thing to keep in mind about this review of Matcha Cafe Maiko: I'm not a matcha fan. So I can't speak to the quality of the matcha and/or how it compares to other places. Here's what I know: The ice cream here is good. They have several flavors: matcha, vanilla, matcha+vanilla, black sesame, hojicha or black sesame-hojicha. Ask for samples if you're unfamiliar. I was able to sample both before ordering. Black Sesame tastes kind of like peanut butter Hojicha tastes like mocha/coffee Hojicha was really good. I would highly recommend. None of the ice creams were too sweet and if you're not a fan of ice cream in a cone, just ask for the waffle cone on the side. Service is great. Given their expansive menu, the staff was very patient with us. There's many other dessert items too but I didn't get a chance to try them yet. Parking: Non-issue. There's plenty of parking. Overall, I would return for their Hojicha ice cream! read more

Located in the shopping plaza with Iron Age, Hansel and Gretel, and other fan favorites. Ample parking available. It is specifically closer to the other side of the plaza near Maclab. The restaurant is a small, cozy shop with a few tables for seating and even special floor tables in which you must remove your shoes before entering. Mainly known for their soft serve, Maiko offers a few daily flavors and a rotating seasonal flavor. They also serve coffees, teas, fried snacks, and other desserts. read more

Ever since I visited Japan, I've been obsessed with matcha. There's no such thing as too much matcha, and this second location of Matcha Cafe Maiko proves that. It's very similar to the other location off Buford Hwy and like that one, is very limited in space and always packed. Fortunately, this location has figured out how to maximize its space, and even has a cute little play area for the kiddos where you take your shoes off and can play with plushes! I love the variety. If you aren't feeling matcha, you can get vanilla, hojicha (a different version of green tea), black sesame or a mix of two flavors. They offer soft serve, cones, lattes, frappes, floats, in addition to other desserts, such as mille crepe cakes, roll cakes, shaved ice, panna cotta, dango, and warabi mochi (with kinako powder). Since this location is new, you might have to be patient with the staff, as some of them are still learning and not completely familiar with all of the menu items. Still, service is very friendly, and the taste and quality of their food and drinks is wonderful. Overall, I highly recommend checking out Matcha Cafe Maiko. read more

I came here originally since I was craving for good matcha ice cream. I came in the afternoon, and there were a lot of open seats. The interior was cozy and they had a section where you could sit on the floor near the window. The place is a bit small, but it gives a very cozy, homey vibe. I absolutely loved the matcha ice cream. I ordered the classic soft serve matcha ice cream with the cone. I found with other matcha ice cream places that the flavor wouldn't be as rich. But, this one was different, and the cone was very soft to chew. Overall, it had a perfect balance of richness and sweetness. The service was great, and the wait time for the ice cream was not long. This has to be my go to spot for matcha ice cream in Georgia! read more

This place is great, my girlfriend loves this place because of the matcha but im not a fan of it so i always get the Ube latte float, it taste great. service is always on point and the ambiance is amazing and everyone is very lovely 10/10 read more
I've been a loyal slurper (?) of their soft serve ever since they opened!! They have the best matcha here. I love the deep deep matcha flavor with the bitterness that contrasts the sweetness in the soft serve. It is a bit pricey, but totally worth it! I also love the different limited-time flavors they have. I've tried the sakura, brown sugar, and mango. read more

Service was okay but very quick. We were the only people there at the time and the whole experience took like 2 minutes. The matcha was already pre-made in a big pitcher. It is on the sweeter side but it was really good matcha. One of the better ones I've had. It was creamy, vibrant, smooth, and overall a great matcha. Definitely recommend this place if you're a matcha lover. read more
this little matcha cafe is adorable, with their little porch inside the establishment. the soft serve here is such a sweet treat! I love coming here after kbbq at 9292 Korean BBQ. between my three visits, I got the matcha, chocolate, and honeydew. while honeydew was very good and very sweet, I think the chocolate was good and the matcha was the best (obviously). a cute spot for a date or to go with friends! would definitely recommend sharing one cup of the soft serve though. read more
We came back and it was better. We ordered blueberry matcha latte, matcha tea float, matcha mille crepe cake, and mini japanese cheesecake for $30. Blueberry matcha latte, to me, was better than matcha tea float since I don't like bitter taste. Both drinks were refreshing and better than the last drinks we ordered long time ago. The crepe cake was delicious and moist. I like it a lot. The cheesecake was okay - I expect it to be moist but it was quite dry. Will definitely come back in the Summer for ice cream. read more
There is plenty of parking right by the store. It's in the same plaza as Ming's BBQ. Many delicious frozen and cold treats to choose from! As well as other dessert items like cakes and savory items. Indoor and outdoor seating area available but limited. So make sure you get there early if you are planning on studying/working there for a bit! Vanilla soft serve - not too sweet and you get so much ice cream too! Was able to steal a few bites before my kid finished it all! Matcha Latte: very authentic tasting (if you are used to more sweeten matcha then this might not be the one for you), the jelly also had great texture. Picked up two cakes to enjoy at home. Both were really good, if you enjoy more sweet, I would recommend the ube flavor. Now is the perfect weather to go check it out. read more
I love the chain here in GA that tried new flavors every month. Their standard matcha soft serve is really good and they sell pints as well. Purely food based review: Matcha Strawberry Latte - Pretty decent drink if you prefer it over ice cream! Slightly bitter then sweet and their serving size is nice. You can ask for less ice. Limited edition Mango Sticky Rice Soft Serve - One of the new flavors they've tried. I'd say it's more pineapple than mango flavor but sticky rice is good and they have some fresh mango slices in there. read more
Don't get me wrong I love the matcha ice cream but I prefer the service in the Doraville location. The employees here are not nice and rude. The interior is bigger and cuter at the other location as well. They also did a weird sloppy job. And, the ice cream is not cheap. Wished I didn't tip before the service. Maybe the employees are just not happy here. I've come here several times too. I'm taking any visiting friends to the other location. read more

This is a really good matcha soft serve cafe! As a Californian, for some reason the ice cream just tastes better here in Georgia! After eating next door, we stopped by here for some dessert, and we all were greeted by a very sweet and generous gentleman who made us feel so welcome. You can get a green tea cookie for your birthday. We ordered the Matcha Soft-Serve Ice Cream. If you've had bad matcha ice cream before, you can definitely taste the freshness and quality of the matcha powder used here. Matcha powder blended perfectly with the creamy ice cream. Waffle cone was also nice, crunchy, fresh. We also ordered their Matcha Latte Float. It was basically a soft serve in some iced matcha powder tea. I thought it was okay! I think if you're looking for a more creamy and soda-spiced fizz that we may be used to in a root beer float, this is definitely much lighter and different. The latte is very light, tasted like matcha powder in water to me, but the soft serve was still so good. I'd personally stick with the soft serve in a waffle cone. There are lots of other matcha desserts on the menu that looks delicious ans fun to try. There's free parking in the large plaza lot read more

I've been wanting to try here for so long!! It's such a cute place but it is pretty small. The menu offered so many delicious options. We really enjoyed our shaved ice, UBE soft serve, and red bean. It was delicious. The reason for one less star is I think they could little easier on the matcha syrup on the ice. It was pretty strong near the bottom. read more

Matcha Maiko in Duluth is a pretty spot in Duluth. You can see the Japanese themed furniture that gives you a plesant experience. I recommend getting their soft serve ice creams. They have the set flavors of matcha and vanilla with seasonal flavors like ube and black sesame. What I ordered for my visit were the matcha latte and a matcha vanilla mix soft server ice cream in a cup with the gold flake. I will say that the ice cream cost about $5 and the added gold flake will cost you and additional $5 brining the total to $10. It's an experience worth trying at least once. I love anything matcha so when I saw the sign , I had to stop by. I ordered the Maiko special with uji matcha soft served ice cream, chestnut, mochi balls, red beans, matcha sponge cake(?), and corn flakes on the bottom. I paid $7.80 plus tax. When I got the product, I was surprised how small it was for the price I paid. There weren't that much ice cream. The ice cream had a strong matcha flavor so if you don't like that slightly bitter taste, then pick a different flavor like vanilla. The mochi balls were springy. Adding corn flakes into the mix was a bit weird to me but husband liked it. Overall, good ice cream and will patron again but won't be doing the Maiko special. read more

I'm not a sweet guy (haha) but I do love exotic flavors as well as my desserts cold and Maiko Matcha Cafe always delivers! Maiko specializes in matcha based drinks and desserts such as lattes and soft serve ice cream. Maiko also has a series of amazing rotating flavors such as Ube, White rabbit candy, durian, and many others. This time I got to try their Yuzu, which tasted like a cross between a lemon and a grapefruit. It's pretty refreshing so give this a try or Maiko a try if you like matcha. I give it 1 star less than perfect just because I feel like some of their flavors could have been a little more heightened like the Vietnamese coffee, horchata, etc. read more

If you love matcha, Matcha Cafe Maiko is the place for you! They specialize in Matcha and other specialty flavors of ice cream that go through rotations. They also offer matcha drinks, other teas, and small desserts. Overall my experience here has been good; however I'd like if the matcha was a little bit more flavorful. It's not too sweet which is nice to me. read more
This place is so cute inside. I love the seating by the window. There is a screen for privacy as well. I like the idea of clear pictures of their menu items. It is very helpful when ordering. I got the ube and matcha soft serve on a cone. It tastes delicious! We also got the chicken karaage. The flavor of the chicken is well seasoned. I do expect less flour for my crispy chicken. This makes a great dessert place after dinner. I will be back pretty soon! read more

I am not the biggest fan of matcha, so I ordered a black sesame ice cream. Definitely good, but I don't think it's worth a five star review. I wish the black sesame flavor was a bit stronger but it still tasted pretty good. These are the kinds of places I would never go out of my way for, but would still go to if the entire party wanted to go. I just feel that it's a little overpriced for my preference. Also, it looks like the black sesame is a seasonal flavor so they may not have it next time. read more
Summary: You're going to love this place so matcha :) whether you're a long-time drinker or curiously adventurous for something different (other than your boba addiction mhm) this cafe is a great place to stop by and taste all the unique flavors they showcase weekly. Who knows? You may find your next matcha. (OK im done with the puns). Food & Drinks: They surprisingly offer a wider variety of foods ranging from Dango to tempura. So far I have tried the Dango ($2.99 EA) and the Taiyaki (2 for $5.50). The Dango is superb here! I tried it at other cafes and thought I didn't like it until I tried it here. I always recommend my dango lovers to come to Cafe Maiko for their dango cravings. The Taiyaki is good but a bit oily, which is understandable since that's just how the snack is made. My bf ALWAYS gets the hot matcha (M -$3.50) with no sugar. For me, even the regular matcha drink is too bitter, but he loves it. If you're a true matcha drinker then you may appreciate the simplicity of the drink. You can get it with/without sugar and iced/hot. If you like your drink smoother I recommend the Matcha Latte w/ less ice (M-$4.50). If you want it even creamier add the cheese cap- It's so nice and creamy... compliments the matcha so well (M-$5.50). If you're new to matcha (welcome aboard!) I recommend getting the matcha latte float (specifically say "latte" makes a huge difference). It's a latte with ice cream on top. I usually keep my latte as matcha and the ice cream the weekly special (Ube, Taro, Yam, etc) but they also have vanilla and other flavors to keep the flavor profile simple (M ~$6.30). You can also switch the flavor of the latte but be sure to ask what you can substitute it for. Note: Right now due to Covid-19 they are not open for dine-in. They blocked off the front entrance and created it to become where you place an order. They have 2 benches near the front and hand sanitizer. Wait time is usually not that bad. Workers wear masks and gloves, which I 100% respect and applaud them for because they are the only cafe I've seen take such large safety precautions for their employees and customers. Thanks Cafe Maiko! read more

I love ice cream and I love matcha. So it made sense to give this place a try. Definitely was not disappointed. I got the matcha and vanilla swirl and my sister got the Ube/Sakura swirl. Both were yummy! Matcha wasn't overly strong which is how I like it. I had no idea what Sakura flavor taste like until today and I love it! read more

We used to be cafe blue lovers until we found this place. They are so friendly and the drinks are always on point. Their rewards system is great and easy to use. The matcha quality is better here than 95% of the drink places we go to, drink sizes are also much better in comparison to other places. read more

TLDR: Creamy smooth ice cream with premium quality matcha This is my second time coming to this location and it never fails to impress. I got their vanilla and matcha swirl parfait and it was lovely. The soft serve was creamy and smooth and there were a variety of toppings in it ranging from red bean to mochi to corn flakes on the bottom (which added a nice textural component) to soft pieces of cake to jelly on the bottom (you definitely get a really solid mix of toppings with this parfait that's sure to please anyone!). They also have a variety of really unique ice cream pint flavors available. I didn't end up getting any but I took note of the Lao Gan Ma ice cream flavor that I've been searching for for a while (first saw it on subtle Asian traits). All in all, a really solid dessert spot that you don't want to miss out on! read more
