My favorite is the matcha vanilla swirl. You can really taste the matcha and the vanilla is just creamy enough to give the matcha a good balance. Soft serve is so, so good, and it is ridiculous that it is not more popular in the US. The mouth feel is silky smooth and the ice cream melts on contact with your tongue. So good. We ordered the omakase dessert ($20), raindrop cake ($5), and matcha soft serve. The raindrop cake is basically all gelatin, nothing special besides its aesthetic appeal. The omakase tray is a cute concept- gives you a little bit of everything to try, and this is shareable between 2-3 people. The only one I did not choose I ended up enjoying the most which was the black sesame roll cake on the omakase tray, I recommend this! Not too sweet and it has a creamy filling full of black sesame flavor. The soft serve was super matcha-y to the point where it almost tasted bitter to, but I prefer it that way. this place is MATCHA PARADISE!!! perfect to go to for matcha lovers~~ Literally everything is matcha or matcha infused. I especially like the soft serve, it tastes so authentic and rich!! The matcha cheesecake and cookie are also good, 10000/10!! :) The only thing I wouldn't really recommend is the Maiko Special. It's a matcha parfait with matcha soft serve as the base and then contains bits of red bean, chestnut, matcha loaf, jelly, cornflakes, and Japanese brown sugar syrup. I love matcha, so this was supposed to be the perfect dessert place to go to. A few things happened that dampened my experience here. We ordered a Maiko Shaved Ice with matcha soft serve, but the cashier accidentally put the wrong order into the register. We didn't notice the issue until we received the wrong dessert. I went to the register to let them know the problem, but they were busy attending to new customers and wouldn't acknowledge me. The cashier and person in the kitchen finally noticed me and apologized for the wrong order, but never refunded me for the more expensive item we were charged for. It took even more time before we received the correct order, still with no refund. They kept serving new customers who were just entering the café, when I had been waiting for them to fix my order for 25 minutes. It was delicious and it has a light taste to it which is refreshing. I enjoy how they offer for a limited time different soft serve flavors such as ube, Thai tea, and horchata. Unfortunately, I didn't make it to try the other flavors. I wish their limited time offers were for a longer period. However, I was able to try the Horchata soft serve and it was delicious! The prices here are reasonable too with the soft serve ice cream in a waffle cone being about $5.00. Also, due to COVID-19 safety procedures, there is no inside dining which I respect that. When I asked the employees about it, one employee immediately responded that the soft serve freezing process makes dried pieces of "fiber". Since coming back from Japan, I have been a huge critic of places that say they have "matcha" styled drinks or desserts but it tends to be a low-quality version that only tastes like sugar water with a hint of matcha. That said, I normally shy away from anything matcha in the states. When Maiko opened I was in the area trying our Yi Feng so I stopped by and got a matcha latte (no sugar, wanted to focus on the match). I was walking out of the door when I took the first sip which quickly turned me around and brought me back in to ask questions. It resembled the matcha I had in Okinawa and of course, I was thrilled to find out that they are using ceremonial Okinawan matcha. Since then, this has been my goto place for anything matcha. I wish the spaces were a bit larger but I've spent quite a few days here working. I've been to the Matcha Cafe Maiko in Doraville and saw that they were doing a promotion on Facebook for their soft opening and decided to check this one out today. The ambience was nice and the cashier was lovely! It looked pretty similar to the Doraville location with its wooden walls and decor. The cashier said that the menu here had more variety and flavors, including the hojicha which she explained to be a nuttier, more roasted matcha, similar to an oolong or barley. I rarely come up to Duluth these days. I was surprised to see a Match Cafe Maiko here. This location used to be called Lattea. They sold pretty good avocado smoothies--one of my favorites. But now it's replaced with Matcha Cafe Maiko. I think it's a good tradeoff. The space is small. I see it as a pickup and go place, even if there isn't a pandemic. It doesn't seem like a hangout and chill place due to the lack of space. They have a place to put your shoes, even though everyone wears shoes in there. I wonder what the point of that is? Like the name suggests, it serves mostly Matcha based desserts and teas. They have shaved ice, parfais, lattes, frappes, hot teas, soft serve ice creams, and more. Besides matcha selections, they also have Hojicha. I never tried it so I can't comment on what it taste like. I tried their Matcha Latte with Soy Milk. It was your standard iced latte. Unfortunately the tea had a fishy flavor. Why did it have a fishy flavor? Is it the characteristic of the matcha or was it made wrong? I have tried a lot of different matcha teas and lattes over the years at different places. I even went to Matcha Cafe in BuHI, and I don't remember that location having the fishy taste. I don't think matcha should taste like fish. I've tried teas that had a "seaweedy" umami flavor. But this tasted like fish. Perhaps they didn't use the correct temperature water or the humidity or something else have denatured it. I dunno. It wasn't a good cup of matcha latte. You would expect a place with the name "matcha" should nail a basic matcha latte. I like their concept and we need more matcha selections around here. I'll give them 3 stars. read more

This cafe has great matcha and delicious matcha deserts. I've been to other locations of this chain (San Francisco) and this cafe has much more selection compared to those locations. I purchased a maiko special with green tea soft serve. The soft serve was not too sweet and had a strong matcha taste. The toppings which included corn flakes, rice cakes, chestnuts, and red beans, which provided a beautiful texture contrast. It was delicious!!! As for COVID precautions, all employees wore masks. We visited Georgia in the beginning of March before the lockdown started. We stumbled upon this cafe after having dinner. It's located in a huge plaza strip. The cafe is really cute and there's an area by the window where you take off your shoes and sit on the ground. It's pretty small inside, but they still have plenty of seating available. The menu was overwhelming for me because I wanted to try everything!!! I opted for a normal matcha tea and my hubs ordered a green tea float drink that came with a scoop of matcha ice cream. His was so good! I really love ice cream where you can taste the actual matcha and their ice cream was really good. The flavors of the matcha in the drinks were also super authentic. I also ordered a Japanese cheesecake, but to me it was a bit disappointing because the texture wasn't as bouncy as I would like and it wasn't very sweet. Maybe I should have opted for the raindrop cake... oh wells. Overall, really nice little cafe to hang out with friends. The employees seemed very nice and it looks like they maintain the cleanliness of the space extremely well.
