(long-overdue post) I really really wished we had a location in SC Matcha Cafe Maiko is going to be a must on every trip to/through Georgia. If you're a matcha fanatic like I, you'll be head-over-heels in love with this place. The interior is cute & small. The young man who took our order wasn't rude or anything, just not very friendly I guess? Lol it didn't matter much after we got our drinks, I was in heaven. The soft serve is top tier & has a great matcha flavor. I mean, just look at the color. & I'm still craving that banana brûlée matcha to this day!! We'll be back for sure!
Everything was just ok. The matcha wouldn't have been that great without the strawberry component. The customer service was ok. The place itself is cute.
This place is so cute and pretty! We went to try their new mango items and it was really good! We got the mango sticky rice sundae and strawberry matcha- both were delicious! Unfortunately I went to get the mango soft serve but they were out, but hopefully next time they have it. Service was also really fast!
I always get the hojicha latte and it's so flavorful. It has a very gentle taste and it's sooo refreshing. If you're looking for something that more mellow with less caffeine, I would highly recommend! I did notice that their lattes are made with a pre-made tea base so if you're looking for something fresher and made on-the-spot, I would take that into consideration.
Been to Matcha Maiko a few times and the quality is always consistent. The pandan soft serve is good, but I wish the flavor was stronger. The matcha soft serve is smooth, creamy, and super yummy, but my friends and I agree that the ube flavor is even better. The banana pudding is very sweet and comes topped with banana slices and vanilla wafers. Putting it on top of ice cream is a fun concept, but I got sick of the sweetness of it all pretty quick. Overall, this is a solid spot for soft serve with great texture and flavors.
Love, love, love cafe maiko. I'm such a matcha fan and this place does not disappoints. Their ice cream is soft serve and it's delicious. I get the matcha flavor and it has a waffle cone. My son loves their classic vanilla one. They usually have some season flavors and offerings as well. My husband tried vanilla and banana pudding last time which was delicious and was part of their seasonal menu. They also have drinks like smoothies and lattes as well. Their service is fast and efficient. They are usually very busy and have a line but it goes fast and the employees at the cash register are pretty fast at getting the order ready. This location is pretty small but they have two really cute tables that are the Asian style sitting on the floor. As well as a few regular tables and chairs . Many people also do to go orders as well.
I love coming here whenever I feel like treating myself to something unique. Although known for their matcha, I actually come here for their seasonal flavors/items. They generally rotate new flavors in, usually based on what's trending at the current time I assume? But some flavors they've rotated are ube, Vietnamese coffee, mango, Thai tea, black sesame etc. I love that you can get a mix of the seasonal flavor with matcha or with vanilla in soft serve. I also love that they usually do a drink variation as well. They also continue to serve their seasonal items in their freezer section even once they go out of the rotation! You can find a variety of different flavors in pre packaged pint containers in their freezer. What recently brought me back was their mango sticky rice. I got both the mango sticky rice sundae and the mango sticky rice slushie. I loved both and love that they include real mango. The only downside I think is that their menu is a bit pricey. But since I only come for seasonal items every now and then, definitely worth it!
I ordered the Mango sticky rice with mango ice cream. So tasty. The rice was well cooked and infused with the sauce. The mango ice cream was refreshing and light. The bad? Super crowded and unorganized. Inconsistent in product. I also witnessed a worker dropping a sticky rice ball on the counter and she just scooped it up and put it on someone's order. Food I tried the mango sticky rice and it was delicious. I wish I went with vanilla ice cream but the mango ice cream was still good. The rice was soft and it was well crafted. Wish they would keep this on the menu longer but I can't wait for it to come back. Note that my fiancé stole it from me so I only had a few bites but it goes to show it impressed her.. Service It was pretty busy and packed. Thankfully, it was quick to order but it did take awhile to get my order. Ambiance I don't like their set up as it makes for a tight space and I couldn't figure out where the line was because people were everywhere. Try to avoid it during busy times if you like breathing space.
Love the matcha drinks and soft serve here. The soft serve has so much flavor without being too sweet. The cones are nice and crunchy, adding a good flavor to the soft serve. They have take home pints of the ice cream too. The matcha and ube flavors are my favorite. They can get pretty busy on weekends and late nights, so I usually grab it to go. You can scan their QR code and order too instead of waiting in the line to order.
Upon entering, this is one busy spot. They have seating but since it is a bit crowded and small it can get quite loud. So we took it to go instead. My matcha latte with Ube soft serve was absolutely delightful. It is a bit on the pricier end but for the quality you are getting, I highly recommend!

I should've visited sooner! OBSESSED with matcha to put it lightly! I tried the strawberry matcha which was delightful to drink. I ordered the taiyaka (red bean filled pastry) for a snack. It was fun shaped as a fish and the inside filling was yummy not too sweet just right! I had to get the super instagrammable sho gun ice cream- absolutely delicious and so aesthetically pleasing! If you're a matcha enthusiast this place is a must visit! The seating is available inside probably 15 or so tables. Casual ambiance! Ordering is at a counter and they call your number when your items are ready. Plenty of free parking as it's in a shopping center! read more
Well, I'm glad I went. I can't say that I'll be back anytime soon. There are just too many other Asian bakeries that are preferred for me. The Matcha Mako special pictured here was $10 too much in my opinion! The pieces of poundcake were stale, but the rest of it was pretty tasty though a little too sweet in my opinion. I went here on a Thursday afternoon and there was hardly anybody in there. They have a seating area where you sit on the floor without your shoes which is pretty authentic and would've made for some nice photos if I was with friends. I was really looking forward to trying this place. We walked in on a Sunday and the ambience was ok didn't really get greeted small spot wouldn't be able to fit or sit much. The menu is pretty reluctant. There's ice cream you can take to go in pint containers. I got the Maiko Special my dad didn't really care for it. The Matcha Brown Sugar drink was good. Only available in 1size. Apparently they don't sell Crepe Cakes by the slice anymore. The soft serve was good. Would it be a spot I return nah unless you're really REALLY craving matcha. read more

I'm glad there's a closer location to me! Once I saw how close it was, I had to just stop by especially with this hot weather we've been having. Comparing to the other location in, I believe Doraville, my first impression of this place is that the seating isn't as ideal. If this place had more windows, I would love it more. It feels a little crowded, but thankfully it doesn't get full easily. The plus side of this location is that you can get pints of ice cream. My go-to order is just a cup of matcha soft serve ice cream, and it tastes the same as the other one in Doraville. They also have other menu items such as a variety of matcha lattes, crepe cakes, shaved ice, and some fried food like tempura. I wasn't disappointed with the quality of food here, and you'll be seeing me there more often. read more
Bluntly put, I was extremely disappointed with this location of Matcha Cafe Maiko. I'm a huge fan of this chain...and the one I've frequented in Charlotte location has always been stellar in every way. However, I was nearly shocked at how poorly they did things at this Duluth location. Though labeled a "Premium" location, given that they serve up much more variety of goodies, including Crepe Mille Cakes and other famous Japanese desserts, they did NOT put up any efforts at improving the customer experience. First of all, I ordered not 1, but 2 of their Mille Crepe Cakes. I planned on trying just the Matcha flavor, but then I saw that they were currently serving up Taro...and just couldn't resist. In my defense, I didn't plan on actually eating all of it...but maybe having half of each. Also, I noticed that also offered this rarely seen dessert, Dango, which tastes a lot like Boba Balls, but further flavored up! I ordered 2 skewers of these (which wasn't necessary, actually, because these were much bigger sized than anticipated. Also, I ordered their Black Sesame Milk Tea w/ Boba. WELL...everything I ordered were served up in cheap, plastic To-Go packages...even though I clearly said I was eating in. Huh?? I actually asked if they had plates...but nope! BTW, the attitude of the cashiers were rather rude...and I can't believe I actually gave them $4 tips! BTW, the Crepe Mille Cakes tasted great, but the texture was off. They were so creamy, the layers just kinda blended in. Also, the Taro tasted better than the Matcha...which was surprising, 'cuz this place specialized in Matcha. The Dango sticks tasted good, but again, these 3 huge balls on a skewer were too big. Given the sticky toppings on these, I can't believe they shoved these in a paper bag (?!?)...again, AFTER me telling them that I was eating in. I could barely get these skewers out of the bag without ruining the whole thing...they basically were stuck unto the paper! Can't believe they couldn't afford to place the 2 skewers on a damn plate! OMG?!? I regretted ordering 2 of these. Honestly? I regretted ordering ALL of it. If I knew they delivered everything in such cheap, fast food manner, I would have gladly went elsewhere to get my cravings fulfilled. Overall, I was really turned off by the cheap/slack presentation of their foods (especially given that this is not the case with the ones I've been to at other locations). I can't believe a "Premium" location of this chain can be so slack. No Instagram advertisement for them...from my end, that is! I can't believe I wasted my time and money going here (to hang out even?), amidst several dozen superb bakery cafes in this town! I still love this chain, and will try best to skip this location. read more

The service was nice. They let you sample the soft serves. They do not have black sesame soft serve :( i really enjoyed the texture and it was not too sweet. The interior is pretty and there is a lot of seating available. If you don't like matcha, the vanilla soft serve is very good. read more

It was pretty much a yes day and my daughter requested Ice Cream. We were right around the corner and decided to try this place out. The interior was nicely decorated. But, there's a huge counter top table right in the middle of the cafe... It made the room feel quite crowded, even with the few customers they had. We ordered 2 brown sugar soft serve ice cream, 1 dango, 2 Taiyaki, and 1 Brown sugar matcha latte with boba. Everything was tasty. read more

The photos on Instagram looked so good that I had to try this! It did not disappoint! It's a small but cute space and you order straight at the counter. I really wanted an Ube latte float but they were out of the Ube paste to make it. Luckily they still had the Ube soft serve. The matcha was recommended to me and I'm very happy that they had alternative milk to add to the latte so my lactose intolerance wasn't too agitated. The matcha was really tasty and rich! The Ube ice cream was absolutely delicious! Would recommend for a yummy treat! read more

Super cute dessert spot. Ample free parking. I wanted to try something different. Cute interiors and some seating. I was able to sample flavors. The matcha definitely is an acquired taste - strong, bitter flavor which I know it's known for. I tried the ube flavor and loved it. I ended up getting a soft served ube cone - about $6. The cone was delicious too - tasted homemade - not a store brought cone. They had other options too. I'd definitely recommend! read more
Great experience at Matcha The tea are very well prepared and dessert is delicious. Staff are friendly and order come out fast! Highly recommend you to try it when you're in the area. We will be back and try it again with other selections of tea or dessert, ice cream. read more
Food: Ube/White Rabbit in a cup - a great combo! White rabbit reminds us of childhood. Sweet but not in an overly excessive way. Ube is our son's favorite. Vanilla/Matcha in a cone - This is just classic. Best of both worlds. Matcha is my favorite. The cone is great too. Service/Ambience: a very small space so get in before it gets too crowded. They also have a nice family style section where you have to take off your shoes to access. Staff is always nice and welcoming. Overall, one of our favorite places to get premium soft serve. Love their classic matcha but they have numerous special weekly flavors that they rotate. Come check it out! read more
Food: Maiko special mixed was yummy! I got mixed. The rooty matcha complements the sweet vanilla. I loved all the toppings on there except the boba at the bottom. It felt very hard, overcooked, and too chewy; thus I'm taking off a star for this. If that's not boba, then please correct me. Atmosphere: The Duluth location of Matcha Cafe Maiko is very cute and well-decorated. There is an elevated area by the window where you can take off your shoes and sit on the ground by a floor table! Service: The servers were friendly, and our cone came out relatively quickly. Food: We ordered a Matcha Soft Serve in a cone. It wasn't too sweet, and the matcha flavor came through well. The soft serve was nice and smooth, but we advise to eat it quickly since it melts fast! Overall: Matcha Cafe Maiko is a great dessert choice for matcha lovers! They have a lot of other matcha-based treats, so we're excited to come back and try some of their other desserts. read more

So happy there's a Matcha Maiko in Duluth now! I got the Maiko Special with ube, which was a great choice. I definitely want to try the hojicha soft serve flavor next time, or even ube swirled with hojicha. Only con about this location is that there aren't very many tables when it gets really crowded, and the vibe and decor in the Doraville location is much nicer with the booths. However, there are two Japanese-style tables (low rise ones that you take your shoes off at to sit at) at the front which was fun. read more

This place is a gem for matcha lovers like me! I went today (Saturday) for the first time and it was packed with people ( the store is pretty small). I got the matcha soft serve in a cup and kind of regretted it at first because they gave it to me in a paper cup, not the plastic cups I saw in other reviews. I think I ended up getting less than if I were to get it in the plastic cup or the cone so I think it's more worth it to get it in a cone if I'm paying almost $6 for a soft serve. The soft serve itself was really good, I loved the balance between the bitter matcha flavor and the sweetness. The texture of the ice cream was also super thick which was amazing because I hate when soft serves are liquidy. Other than the serving issue, the flavors and the vibe of the place are spot on and I'll definitely be coming back to try other menus! read more

A local ice cream eatery that specializes in matcha ice cream with some incredibly unique flavors for one creams (Lao Gan Ma, sesame, jasmine, Thai tea). I liked their matcha soft serve but it is a little strong in matcha compared to other matcha soft serves I've had across the country. Thus if you like a stronger matcha bitterness, then this place is a 5/5 for you. we also tried their taro, sesame, and lao Gan ma ice cream. Taro: Unfortunately tasted more like vanilla. I was not impressed by this flavor. It failed to have that taro cream punch at the end. Would recommend this store revisit this and blind taste against a vanilla ice cream to see if they can taste the difference. We served this at a party and everyone thought this was a purple vanilla. Sesame: Actually well done. Tasted like a sesame ice cream! Probably their second best flavor. Lao Gan Ma. This. We got it because the idea of a savory ice cream sounded intriguing. Unfortunately I don't like flavors like salt caramel or sea salt dark chocolate. Salty meeting creamy never did it to me and it was that factor that made this ice cream more weird to me than enjoyable. It's an ice cream flavor that is fun to eat a spoon full of, but not fun to eat a whole cup. Would recommend bringing friends to help you split this. Come here for the Matcha. It's a strong matcha. Consider sesame. Would be hesitant to try other flavors even if their creativity is impressive. read more
I frequent the Matcha Maiko in Doraville pretty often, but during COVID, I found myself at this location more. Matcha Maiko in Atlanta began releasing limited time release soft serve flavors in 2020 and for the sake of refreshing social media posts, I did it for the gram and tried a lot of them. I haven't been inside this location yet since it has been closed for dine-in due to COVID. But I came here and tried black sesame and milk tea soft serve swirl with boba and the ube soft serve with crystal boba. The black sesame flavor is so potent that it overpowered the milk tea flavor in the soft serve. I was a bit disappointed in the blandness of the boba themselves - tasteless, only good with the soft serve (barely). I could have done without the boba. The crystal boba is so much better - the crunchy consistency with the ube soft serve was not only Insta-worthy but also a great combination. Not a fan of how different people make prettier or not as pretty desserts - if I'm paying so much for the soft serve, I would definitely prefer if it looked picture worthy. They do offer samples if you're questioning the flavors of the different soft serve, which I find to be a nice touch. My favorite flavor so far has probably been the ube soft serve - and glad to see I can get it in a pint from both locations. You can order soft serve with boba, specialty sundaes with the limited release flavors of soft serve, and other menu items that aren't available in Doraville. Some flavors are also limited to the Duluth location that you can't get in Doraville. It keeps you motivated to come back to either location depending what flavors you're looking for! I would come here more if the prices weren't so much for a sweet snack, but they are definitely filling like a meal, so I guess I can't complain. read more

I have been here multiple times and each time I am blown away. I thought I was a matcha lover before but after buying and trying both of their matcha powders I became a matcha CONNOISSEUR. Their original matcha powder is just the powder but their matcha latte mix already has sugar in it and it is SO GOOD. Their ube and matcha floats are to die for and their parfait is perfectly matched with fun textures and the ice cream. I also love how fast they give you orders to you. No wait whatsoever. And the shop is insanely cozy, especially their seating area. read more

I like Cafe Maiko a lot! Their matcha is rich and flavorful, and their matcha ice cream is just okay (Cafe Mixx has the best matcha soft serve in my opinion). I also ordered boba with my matcha latte, and I'm pretty sure they used crystal boba, which I didn't enjoy, so I wouldn't recommend adding their boba. However, their chicken karaage was very good; when I went a few years ago, they served it with wasabi mayo, but a few months ago, they just served it with regular mayo, which wasn't as good. The prices are a bit expensive but typical for a cafe, and there's free parking. The cafe is super small, so when it gets packed, there's barely any room to walk past people. I would recommend going to this place at least once. read more

After finding out that a second location opened, I immediately wanted to try the soft serve ice cream. Due to the pandemic, the employees take your order at a front window; there is no dine-in or outdoor seating. In this plaza, there are several other bakeries and cafes, so this spot was easy to miss. Their menu includes more flavors, including black sesame and taro, in comparison to the other shop in Atlanta. Only certain flavors come in a swirl, but the employee offered to swirl the matcha on top of the black sesame in a cone. As everyone already knows, their matcha is premium; this isn't your typical vanilla-diluted matcha, you can actually taste the bitterness of the powder. The black sesame was extremely fragrant, and reminded me of the taste of black sesame porridge. Even their cone is surprisingly crisp, flavorful, and exudes the aroma of freshly baked goods. Although their soft serve is around $6, I think the quality is worth the cost. Please please please open more locations! read more

Matcha Cafe Maiko provides asian flavored ice cream/drinks for reasonable prices. For the ice cream I was impressed by the size for just around $5 plus the flavors are vibrant. The service is great and the line moves quickly. Perfect date spot/hangout spot. read more

The store was quite small, but seemed to be an "it" spot as it was filled with patrons and never without a line. The freezer is full of pints if you wanted to take some ice cream to go. We stopped in for some dessert after eating out. We kept it simple and ordered 4 cones - 2 vanilla and 2 ube soft serves. For the price, they really swirl 'em high! There no complaints from our group. read more
