The tomato salad is even better than burger, pieces of tomato, cucumber, red and green bell pepper all coated with balsamic vinegarette was cool, fresh, and delicious. Ordered cheese slice to go, solid Detroit slice, tangy red sauce, thick fluffy dough, crispy caramelized cheesy corners. Large selection of 30 beers. Usually 5-star and I hate this because I love this place. Monday is happy hour all day and that's great. We had the HH Mastiff Fries, chicken wings and two slices of the burata pizza. The food was stellar as always. The service was great. What was not great was the fries came out and about 5 minutes later the wings came out (my order) and 10 minutes after that the pizza came out (my boyfriends order). He had to watch me eat (or I let me food get cold) and then I had to watch him eat. Always better to have all the food come out at the same time. The salad with pepperoni ~artichokes~cheese and more was the perfect blend of everything the dressing was perfect not over powering... Such an underrated hidden gem in La Mesa, I honestly contemplated on leaving a review because I low-key wanted to gatekeep this place all to myself lolol Tucked away in the La Mesa Spring Valley area, I love that there's a parking lot dedicated to the restaurant itself . Mastiffs is one of our favorite spots for game days! During big games, like the playoffs, or upon request, they'll play the game with audio, which is a huge plus. The staff is always very friendly. The drink I got was fruity and paired well with the pizza. I wished for the first time I was a local so I could come here as well! Service was awesome we got a large water for all of us to drink from and staff was friendly and accommodating. I don't believe the team running this restaurant understands that you lose guests "one at a time". First issue was a couple of months ago on a delivery. I called the location when my order was shorted a burger. The female on the phone asked the take-out employee who replied, "sorry, but I know it was in there." She then acted like she had no idea how to help and really didn't care. Fast forward to 4/24 when a delivery just did not show up. The manager on the phone basically said, not our problem reach out to the delivery company, adding "you chose the delivery company" really? The 4 cheese pizza was so good even my picky 5 year old said she wants it every day (wow!). My husband loved the pig fries. The parking is pretty terrible. I had to settle for some pretty questionable parking to check the place out. Since I was parked kinda badly I decided to order to go. It was pretty busy on a Friday evening. Service was really good the guy behind the counter was helpful and he was pretty much spot on with his wait estimate. Wow! What a surprise this place was. There's limited parking out front but more street parking. You walk in and take a seat and then come up to the counter and order. So first, let's talk about the drinks. There are over 30 craft beers. You can also order a beer flight. All beers are available in an 8 ounce for around $6 to 16 oz for around $9. I tried the velvet glow and really enjoyed it. It is a light Russian beer. Now, I came here for the food. And it by far exceeded my expectations. I should've taken pictures of the food, but it was devoured so fast. I did not have a chance. I ordered the special chicken pot pie and it had the flaky crust only on top, but it was flavorful and good and very hot. We also ordered three Smashburger sliders, which were the hit of the table. The flavor along with the grilled onions was incredible. It had a garlic brioche bun to tie it all together. We also ordered a bratwurst sandwich. That one was the least favorite, but still good. There was a bit too much sauerkraut on it. But it was served with something very unique called crisps that have aïoli sauce on them and are nice and spicy with a good kick. We were really excited to try this place after checking out the website and menu, but the experience was disappointing. When we walked in, the floor and tables were dirty. There was a sign instructing customers to wait to be seated. There was a party of 4 ahead of us waiting to order, and for over 7 minutes, no one acknowledged them or us, despite employees at the bar and in the kitchen clearly seeing everyone waiting several times during that period. I asked the party ahead if they had been helped, and they said no. Eventually, a man from the party ahead went up to the bar to speak to the employee. He stood there for over 30 seconds while the employee was interacting with another customer at the bar, then watched the employee walk to the order area without acknowledging him, leaving the man visibly confused. The employee later told the group to sit down and order. A woman from the party responded that they were ready to order, which was understandable given they had already been waiting for over 7 minutes and had more than enough time to look over the menu. The employee began taking the order while they were standing there but then walked away mid-order to get the man's beer. When the employee returned with the beer, he appeared confused and could not find the man who ordered it, even though the man had been standing there the entire time. Between the repeated lack of acknowledgment, the cleanliness issues, awkward service, and the overall disorganized and uncomfortable atmosphere, we decided to leave while still hungry. The experience was disappointing and a waste of time. Unfortunately, I don't see this place lasting. read more

Not pictured Mastiff fries - the cotija, cilantro, and harissa combo on cold fries was just off putting. The service was fine. She was hustling in a busy restaurant! It was pretty loud, with more than one celebration happening at the time I visited. All in all, if someone invited me to eat here I would go but I wouldn't make plans to visit again on purpose. We have been here at least 3 times for lunch/dinner and once for breakfast. Everyone we have had exceptional service. The food we have ordered has been really delicious. The breakfast sandwich and all American breakfast, the sliders and chicken bacon ranch burger, and we absolutely love the pickled veggies. If you order something and it doesn't have them as a side I recommend asking for a side of them for a out 2 dollars or so. Not a lot of seating but I'd says it's good for a small family or small group of people. The beer selection is amazing as well, I believe they also have seltzers, kombucha, and wine for the non beer drinking folks. The only bad thing I have to say is that yesterday that we went, we ordered a Hawaiian pizza with buffalo wings and it was all really salty. I really enjoyed my salad and my mimosa. Everything just tasted perfectly and was very well prepared. My friend didn't like her salad only because she's not a sweet and savory person she would just rather have savory.
