I tried this amazing Chinese food restaurant called the Golden Dragon. We were greeted by Jasmine and welcomed us inside the place. She recommended the orange chicken and salt & pepper wings. We decided to order the Jian's plate that comes with 1 entrée and 1 side for $10.99 . We both ordered the orange chicken with fried rice and chow mein. There are tables to eat inside, but we decided to eat out on the patio. The orange chicken tasted amazing. It had to be the best orange chicken I've tasted. Jasmine gave excellent customer service by checking in on us giving us cup of ice, straws and napkins. This place beats Panda Express hands down . A must try if you like Chinese food. The service was great! Even though you ordered at the counter, the worker made sure our waters were filled and came to check up on us all the time which was great. Golden Dragon is an add-on business to the existing Wings Empire suite in the Mesa Plaza of La Mesa. It was getting late for dinner, and I was nearby so I placed a to-go order. A banner hanging outside stated, "Buffalo Chicken Fries, Wings, Burgers, Tenders, Chicken Salads, & Chinese Food" which wasn't exactly what you expected to come out of a single kitchen. A covered patio on the south side of the structure was available for outdoor seating. There were also some tables inside, but the capacity was smaller. Three different combination plates were available for the Chinese food. I picked the Madrid's Plate which was one side and three entrees for $15.30. My side was the lo mein noodles, and the three entrees were Beef Broccoli, BBQ Pork, and Salt & Pepper Chicken. Of these proteins, the chicken had the best execution. A light batter coated the chicken strips which were fried. Salt and pepper were sprinkled on top to provide the seasoned flavor. The BBQ Pork was chewy and had too much fat content. The Beef Broccoli came in a separate takeout box. Based on the food quality and price, I gave an average three star rating for my takeout experience at Golden Dragon. read more

Ordered through Yelp and my order was cancelled by Grubhub for some reason. Decided to order and take home from the restaurant which saved me a few bucks. The family plates are aptly named as they are massive. Each plate was more than enough for three people. We got the Kung Pao which had a lot of veggies but no peanuts? , orange chicken and salt and pepper wings. Food is very Americanized but had decent flavor. For the money it's a decent value and satisfies the salty, garlicky and fried cravings. Since it's close I will likely come back. read more

Everything was A M A Z I N G. We ordered the party pack (40 pieces) and the sauces were really good. The wings were flavorful, fresh, and perfect for sharing. The buffalo fries OOOFFFFF BOOOMB-- seriously a must-try. And the orange chicken fries were even MORE bomb. Such a good combo of crispy fries and flavorful orange chicken. My son ordered steamed rice (you can choose either rice or noodles), BBQ pork, and orange chicken, while I got fried rice, BBQ pork, and orange chicken. The first thing my son mentioned was that the orange chicken tasted like ketchup, and after trying it myself, I had to agree. The BBQ pork was decent with some flavor, but nothing memorable. As for the fried rice, it was basically plain rice with soy sauce and peas. I usually expect fried rice to include egg, so that was a bit disappointing as well. The space from the door to the counter is like 3-4 steps so it was super weird and uncomfortable that the cashier didn't greet me and then proceeded to avoid eye contact until I greeted her acting like I work there?!
