Everything is cooked to order so be patient or call ahead. I like spicy but, both ways are delicious. Fried chicken smacks, fried fish smacks, even the mac & cheese as simple as it was.... bussin. I tried the okra, cornbread and hush puppies today and they were all delicious. Even though everything is fried its not greasy IMO. If I could make 2 suggestions, I would like to see some type of veggie like, greenbeans, creamed spinach on the menu. Lastly remodel the restrooms .
This place is small but there is more that meets the eye. You had me at fried catfish and fried chicken. They also have fried oysters, shrimp, popcorn shrimp, and calamari. They also have the standard fountain drinks from the stubborn brand that uses cane sugar. There are tables inside for small or large groups. The workflow to order your food is all done at the front counter then they call you when your order is ready. This is a mom and pop shop but the food is good here. They make the fried fish and chicken from scratch so be patient or you can call your order in.
TLDR: Best fried chicken in SD. Make sure to ask for their spicy fried chicken! It's a Lemon pepper, red chili flakes, cayenne, and a hint of sugar! This is my favorite fried chicken in SD and in my current top 5! Their breading is so light and airy yet crispy and crunchy. Their breading has to use some sort of flour blend with all purpose flour and a lighter starch to make it airy. Now their chicken is well salted! Properly brined so that the chicken taste chickeny with the breading being an additional flavor boost! Their dry rub spicy seasoning is to die for. It's some sort of a mix between lemon pepper. You can see some red chili flakes in there. There's probably some cayenne because there's some heat and there's a slight bit of sugar that makes the citrus from the lemon pepper pop even more. I've never had anything like this seasoning blend and it's truly the best. In my first month of living in Santee, I had this place three times.

The food is great here at the Chicken shop. On Carlton Hills Boulevard. The service is good you can call in ahead of dinner. It takes them about 15 to 20 minutes to make the order fresh for you. The ambience is perfect and we give them five stars today.
We give this restaurant a high five star. Excellent wings with the sweet chili sauce and fried chicken leg and thigh all had great flavor. The staff was super attentive and we're patient with all our questions. We are definitely going to tell our friends and family to try the chicken shot and we will definitely be back. Ask for Henry!!! Okay, didn't think I'm going to say this but I will. The chicken skin was way too crunchy for my liking. It's like hard crunchy like battered in corn flakes. I got one krabby cakes for myself and a fish cod plate with rice and mash potatoes. The crab cake was like eating an extra crispy hash brown. It was skin overload on the cod so I just ate the fish. My fiancé prefers the crunchiness. He said the 2 white piece chicken and 5 wet wings were moist and juicy. The fried aspect is 4.5 stars but the seasoning is a 3. Please allow at least 20-30min wait. Best to call in the order. Plenty of parking, located between GTM and Da Boba.
This is my favorite place to get take out fried chicken. For me, not the closest location but it's an easy drive and they have plenty of parking. There is usually a steady flow of customers but the service is fast. I am in and out in no time. I do suggest calling ahead of time for a faster dining experience. It's no frills dining but the food is very good especially the fried variety. The chicken, the catfish and the shrimp are fantastic. The friend okra is also delicious. The dinner plates are big and come with two sides. The sides are decent. Nothing to write home about but good. I usually go double rice. Plenty of food for two people or makes two or three meals for one person. No one goes home hungry. Support local businesses especially the good ones. The Chicken Shop is great. Eat here.
You guys, they also have delicious, meaty chicken wings!!! I was looking around to get wings and looked on the menu and saw they also offer wings. I got the dry rub on both, one was spicy and the other was not. I believe it was dry heat? I called the order in and it was hot and ready in 20 minutes. At such a good price too! Don't forget to ask for hot sauce!
Best fried chicken in SD. Absolute peak food. Service is straight forward. You order your food, you get your food. No frills. Staff is still nice about it though.
Everything about this place is amazing. The service is awesome and the food is phenomenal. There is no reason to ever need to go anywhere else for chicken. People seem to order to go more often than eat there so there is plenty of seating. The food always comes out freshly cooked and hot. This is my new go-to chicken place! I have already been back several times.
First time here and wasn't impressed by the flavor of the food. I got the three piece dark meat with a biscuit and mashed potatoes and gravy. The chicken came out hot but needed more seasoning to the point it was pretty bland. The biscuit was limp and soggy. The mashed potatoes was served at room temperature. Overall it was just generic food that can't hold up to many other options for fried chicken around town. I won't be back.

Here's a polished version you could send as a review or message to the shop: My dad is obsessed with your fish and chips -- tender, crispy, and always freshly made! We've really enjoyed coming in, especially on weekends with the family. The only reason he says he won't come back is because there's no malt vinegar available. He mentioned that most fish and chip shops usually offer it, and for him it's part of the full experience. I even offered to bring our own, but he's still pretty set on it. Just wanted to pass along the suggestion because we genuinely love the food and would love to keep bringing the whole family in. Hopefully malt vinegar is something the shop might consider adding! read more

The chicken shop, one of my favorite places to go, eat some fried oysters, and some chicken livers. It's harder and harder to find someplace that cooks chicken livers anymore, and I'm sure glad I found this place. The service is always great, they greet you with a smile And it's always quiet under normal circumstances. It's just a nice place to be for a lunch or a snack. read more

This Chicken Shop in Santee is an absolute gem. I have been coming here for over five years and it never lets me down. There is truly no place like it. The fried chicken is on another level: crispy, juicy, and packed with flavor. The fried okra, french fries, mac and cheese, and rice are all fantastic. My go-to order switches between fried rice, catfish with fries, or chicken with rice. Every meal is comforting, satisfying, and full of flavor. I personally cannot eat it every day (I would if I could), my cholesterol might complain, but when you want to treat yourself, this is the place. The fried shrimp is excellent and the Krabby Cake never even makes it home because I eat it in the car. Everything on the menu is solid. You just cannot go wrong. It is located in the same parking lot as GTM, which is always packed with people hunting for deals. That store is full of bargains, so it makes the whole trip feel like a win. On the other side of the chicken shop, there is a bakery (I do not even know the name) but it has the best cakes, cookies, cupcakes, and parfaits. Seriously, the desserts are top notch. Whether you want a big bag meal to take home or just a textbook comfort food fix, this is the spot. The restaurant is family-owned and the people there are so friendly and warm. You can eat inside at one of the tables, but we usually take it to go. Five stars without a doubt. read more

I love supporting small businesses and I do love my fried chicken. My family ordered from here and got it to go. Usually takes around 25 minutes. We ordered Dark meat (hell yeah) fried chicken meal and it comes with two large sides (we chose onion rings and mashed potatoes). A small order of coleslaw, some biscuits, small order of fried okra. If you want some hot sauce on the side, let them know! Upon opening, everything looked amazing! The fried chicken was really crispy and not heavily battered or anything like that. I wished that the chicken was a bit more flavorful instead of having to rely on ketchup and hot sauce. It didn't have enough salt to it. The okra piqued my interest because I haven't had fried okra before. Definitely different. Not sure if I would get it again. Lightly crispy on the outside and the usual mild grassy flavor with the stretchy sticky stuff. Biscuit was fluffy and not dry. I totally lathered that with butter and honey because that's how you do it! Onion rings were the right amount of crispy. Good sized and portion to share with the family. The little one kept asking for more and loves it. Cole slaw was good, had the crunch, the creamy, slight tang to it. Mashed potatoes tastes all right. Gravy was delicious and savory, slight richness to it. I would come back to check out this place again but will asked for more spices or something for the chicken. A bit plain for me but I've had chicken from here before a couple times and each time it was bomb. Maybe just a slight off day today. read more

The Chicken Shop is an unassuming restaurant in a strip mall next to Mary's Donuts and DaBoba. There are arcade games to play while you wait and tables to dine in if you choose. They fry everything made to order, so either call in your order or expect to wait 10-20 minutes depending on what you get. I ordered the 2-piece dark with a side of fried okra. I haven't had okra in years and it was so crisp on the outside and tender inside. The chicken itself had a nice thin coating and fried perfectly. I thought the seasoning was good, just the right amount of salt and tender. I'm not one to order dipping sauces and am a purist when it comes to fried chicken. I'll head back the next time I'm craving some delicious fried chicken. read more
Picked up to go 4:30 pm on a Sunday. It was empty! No customers there. But the lady that ran the register was very nice with taking our order. Nothing amazingly awesome about the restaurant so maybe everyone just picks up like us? 15 piece dark, family size, 8 piece fried oysters and fried giblets. Was told order takes about 20 mins and they were right. Took about 20 mins. The fried chicken had a crust texture similar to Popeyes. Great crunch even though we ate it an hour later. Flavor was ok. Nothing special to mention, seasoned well but very simple and basic. Giblets and liver was good texture too. But again, seasoned well but nothing special. Oysters were great! Tasted fresh, fried well. Nice fried coating. Was just missing lemons, we ran out at home too, but that would have made it awesome. Overall, seasoning could have been more, maybe some more spices, something to give it a kick, an umph,,,something. The hot sauce on the side that came with our order was not enough of a flavor add. We will most likely come back but will be prepared with some homemade Canes sauce or something to go with it. read more

What delivery service do they use?
Sadly, no delivery. Henry said it just isn't worth it. He's been burned by deliveries gone wrong. He ends up paying for it. I know because I have asked him several times till he told me this. So that's a bummer.
