    Brisket

I keep forgetting to place a review, primarily because the Brisket is that GOOD! Easy on the wallet too, and they know a little something something about Mac & Cheese. Try it. I promise you'll be satisfied to the extreme. Half-pound meat, any meat, $32.00 plus 2 sides. Save room 4 some Interesting desserts.

MAKI B is the best server, she is so friendly welcoming and on it. We came for a quick and random lunch on our anniversary and she was so fun and energetic. I feel like that's hard to find in food service, but everyone really was great from the second we waited in line to leaving. We had my mini dachshund with us and it was so hot outside and she welcomed us in to wait by the door. When our table wasn't ready they kept updating us and keeping us in the loop. The staff was friendly and so kind. I encountered the manager also and she was bubbly and fun. We had a real fun time laughing with Maki about an order of ranch, simple thing made fun. I can see how this can turn into a locals favorite spot. Will be back! Ambiance is cool, casual, fun and comfortable.

    3 tacos for Taco Tuesday
    Elizabeth C.

Visiting San Diego and the fam needed lunch after a visit at SDSU. Looked on yelp and this came up as highly rated. When I drove up, I was a little nervous because the location seemed odd with it being primary residential apartments but there were a lot of cars especially for mid day Tuesday so we went with it. It was taco Tuesday so I got three tacos and the house margarita. Chicken breast taco was so good and the crispy cod was even better. Margarita was good, simple traditional flavor and for $6 it was a steal! We also ordered the street corn, burger with fries and Cobb salad. Cobb was one of the best and chicken was very flavorful rather than bland and dry. Service was fast and super friendly! Never had to wait looking for water, food, check. Fries were tasty and only tip is if you like them a little crisper then ask for that. Taste is great but depends on personal preference.

I was craving a pastrami sandwich, and a friend suggested checking out Del's, located where Nicolsi's used to be on Highway 8. It's a great little spot. I was welcomed by a nice selection of local draft beers, which is always a plus. I ordered the Reuben, and it was done very well. The bread was great, and the sauerkraut had good flavor--I just wished there had been a bit more of it, same with the pastrami. Still, the flavor was excellent. For my side, I chose the coleslaw, which was fresh and had a nice crunch. They also offer a solid selection of BBQ meats that I definitely plan to come back and try. Overall, it's well worth a stop.

I went with two friends who both grew up in the Midwest. They ordered the meatloaf, I got the pulled pork, and we all cleaned our plates. They got a ton of burger option ma too. Sides were on point. The vibe is relaxed, plenty of TV's to watched sports. One of my buddies even said it felt a tasted like back in the Midwest. Staff was super efficient and welcoming. Definitely coming back.

We found out about this place in restaurant week. First plus point for them is they have the areas for the kids to play. My kids had a lot of fun. All of the staffs are very nice and friendly. To be honest, I didn't put too much expectation on the food before I came but it was a surprise for us. All of the food are delicious and the portion is big too. For appetizers we got brisket chili and best mac and cheese. It was so good. The classic burger is great. The meat is well seasoned and juicy. The best is part fowl sandwich, the sauce is a little spicy kick in and the chicken is juicy. I brought the left over home and the next day when I heat up, the chicken still moist and not dry. We got pecan pie and apple crisp. Both are great and not too sweet. I love the vibe here and will definitely come back

I really appreciate how clean this restaurant is for a BBQ place. Too many of them get dirty and sticky but this place is clean and nice. They have their own parking lot which is perfect and it's accessible for people with disabilities. The service was amazing. Kind and knowledgeable staff all around. We got the platter for 2 that included chicken, pulled pork, brisket, corn bread, jalapeno hominy gratin, Mac and cheese, and beans. All about 60 bucks which is well worth it. The pork was by far the best, so juicy and flavorful. We also loved the chicken and brisket even if it was a tad on the dry side. The jalapeno hominy was AMAZING. Totally worth the up charge. What a unique little side dish, definitely something to try. The beans were also great and the Mac and cheese was pretty standard. I'm also super happy with the corn bread, I been to quite a few BBQ places and so far this corn bread has been as close to my mom's as I've found. Will definitely be back.

I was looking for a spot to eat to satisfy all of us. Del's Hideout kept popping up over and over in all my searches so I decided that's THE spot. It did not disappoint. All of us left happy and full! Parking is easy. Easy to be there. Our server was amazing. 10/10 for Maki!!! Food was exactly what we hoped for!! Got the brisket 10/10 Ribs 10/10 Deviled Eggs 9/10 Mac and Cheese 10/10 Just go, don't second guess it!! You're welcome!

I was craving comfort food at the end of the year, December 31st, 2025. I didn't know exactly what I wanted, but I decided on a barbecue place by the name of Del's Hideout in San Diego, off of Waring Road. It's the perfect place for comfort food, any kind of barbecue you could possibly want. They have everything and anything barbecue. I didn't want to feel really full or sick to my stomach, so I ordered two brisket sliders. I am not much of a meat eater; I usually eat chicken or fish, but I decided to try the brisket sliders. I also ordered a little cup of mac and cheese. Everything was flavorful, tasty, tangy, and very delicious. I had a very friendly waitress, and the decor is relaxed and casual. They play a great selection of pop and country for a pleasant atmosphere. They had their Christmas tree up and TVs throughout the restaurant with sports on, plus a good-sized bar area. It's just a perfect casual dining spot in a local neighborhood to have delicious barbecue. What are you waiting for? Maybe place this on your dining list for 2026? Happy New Year 2026! . Be safe and God Bless everyone! #sandiego #yelpsandiego #yelp #sandiegocalifornia

Tri-tip & Brisket combo plate with cornbread, bacon potato salad & collard greens
    Eliko S.

We arrived at Del's at about 5:30. It was pretty busy and we were seated at the last four-top table next to the noisy and bright arcade games. This was not the ideal place to enjoy a meal, but we didn't have a choice at that moment. So we perused the menu and made some important meal choices. M. opted for the two meat combo plate with tri-tip and brisket, collard greens, bacon potato salad & corn bread. I ordered the SOB Salad and a side of Mac n' Cheese. Waters w/ lemon to drink. Our waiter was friendly and gave us good service up until our food was delivered, and then he got a few new tables and got a bit swamped. Sadly, although our food came out promptly, it was pretty meh. M. said the tri-tip was mostly fat, the brisket lacked seasoning, and the BBQ sauce was underwhelming and ketchup-forward. He liked the collard greens and the cornbread. I tried the pickles and they were quite sweet and they had a strong and unpleasant aftertaste. I normally love pickles, but these were not it. My salad was huge, and the portion of crispy chicken was generous. I'm honestly not mad about the salad. The mac n' cheese was mild and tasty, but it was lukewarm. I would have enjoyed it more if it was hot. The arcade games got kind of busy while we were eating, and it felt like being in a Dave & Buster's which was not the vibe I was going for. M. nearly got hit in the head by a Dad toting a huge Trader Joe's bag and playing a Ninja Turtles game with his kiddo. So the ambiance of this place is part sports bar - part BBQ resto - and part kid-friendly family funhouse. It's super if that is what you are looking for. After finishing our food, we sat idly for ten minutes, and then a Manager inquired how were were doing. We asked for a to-go cup for the Mac and the check. She asked one of her co-workers to take care of that for us. The co-worker Dulce (sp) came by with the little electronic Toast card reader and said that our bill was $68.34. That didn't seem right to me even with tax, so I asked her to print it out. She came back with a printout and handed it to me. Turns out that the restaurant charges a 5% supplemental fee to "offset rising costs." At the time, I didn't realize (until I researched it while writing this review) that there was a note at the very bottom of the menu that indicated that this charge would be added to checks, but we could opt out if we wanted... so keep in mind that this fee is added, but no one tells you about it. So, long story short, the food is quite expensive for what you get, and the actual taste & quality of the food is hit or miss. I really wanted to like Del's because I'd heard and read good things & we were looking for a great BBQ spot because M. loves it, but unfortunately, today's visit will be our last.

Street corn and pulled pork sandwich
    Jennifer C.

Came on a Wednesday as did not realize it was "kids eat free day" so the restaurant was packed with families. My friend and I sat at the bar. They have quick the extensive list of beers and I got a hazy ipa that was delicious. For food I got the pulled pork sandwich and opted for the street corn side. The food was delicious! The pulled pork had such a good flavor and didn't feel super fatty. Bbq sauce wasn't overloaded and the slaw added a nice crunch. The street corn was also surprising in a good way. I think they put a little cotija, lime and some spice as it had a little kick. Service was friendly! I think the only thing I'd say that wasn't great is the price is a bit high. It was $20 for just the sandwich and small side.

Double order of fries and Texas toast
    Reyman B.

If you get the party plates, know that the sides are massive. We got a double order of fries and we didn't even finish half. Favorite part was the wings. That golden buffalo sauce was amazing. The chicken breast is probably the best I've had at a bbq restaurant like this. It was juicy and tender. A great place to bring a good amount of friends. Service was great and it felt like a local bar but with really good food. They have a play area outside for kids and a couple arcade games to keep them occupied while you eat and drink. Can imagine the place gets lit during Padres games and SDSU games

My favorite salads are the Grapevine and Duck Cranberry. For sides I recommend the potato salad and tomato basil bisque. The aioli they use is to die for -- can't hurt to get a side of it with any sandwich! The restaurant is situated on the corner of Park Blvd. and Polk Ave. (more generally, it's on the strip of Park Blvd. between University Ave. and El Cajon Blvd.). Update: Came back today with my friend and we ordered the B3 and the Turkey & Cheddar Mousse sandwiches, plus sides of potato salad and cucumber salad, and a double chocolate cookie with pistachio and sea salt. Everything was really good, but the Turkey & Cheddar Mousse sandwich was the star of the show. The cookie was great too. The flavors were clean and vibrant. A little extra salt would have pushed it over the top for a salt-lover, but that came down to personal preference rather than any shortcoming. A dining companion ordered the avocado sandwich and could not stop raving about it, praising both the flavor and the freshness. The outdoor seating area deserves special mention. The shaded space was perfect as I do have sun allergies, especially for anyone who prefers relief from direct sun. The care taken in food preparation added an extra layer of comfort and trust. The second visit somehow raised the bar even higher. Micah went above and beyond to accommodate physical ability needs with patience, attentiveness, and genuine kindness. That effort did not go unnoticed and made the experience feel deeply respectful and inclusive. The roasted chicken sandwich ordered on the second visit was phenomenal. The roasted chicken was tender, savory, and full of depth, elevating the sandwich even further. Adding a bit of extra salt brought all the ingredients into perfect harmony, making every bite more satisfying than the last. This sandwich has officially earned a spot as a new favorite sandwich. Big Front Door was amazing not just for delicious, thoughtfully prepared food, but for the people who work there. Zack and Micah created an environment where care, kindness, and respect were clearly prioritized. No moment felt rushed, dismissive, or uncomfortable. At no point did anyone make the experience feel like a burden or inconvenience. A sincere thank-you also goes to the team members who prepared the food. Even without knowing names, the care taken to keep guests safer while serving delicious nourishment was evident and deeply appreciated. Big Front Door comes highly recommended for the flavorful sandwiches, the shaded outdoor space, the welcoming atmosphere, outstanding customer service, and the genuine kindness shown at every action.

The ONLY reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 (and I'm usually a 5-star/1-star girlie) is that we haven't seen Cari, one of our favorite servers, in either of our last couple of visits. Over a year ago now, Cari stepped UP when I became faint and almost passed out on Nate's front deck. It was a hot day, I am BAD at drinking water but great at sweating; and as I stood up, I turned paper white and the world got fuzzy. Cari swooped in the moment she saw what was happening - making sure I was safely lying down, getting me hand sanitizer for my forehead and a wet cloth for the back of my neck (rapid cooling!), and orange juice for my fluid imbalance. I'm so SO glad Cari was there to take better care of me than I take of myself. I miss our nerdy conversations, and hope she'll be back soon!

I was lost in there not knowing exactly what to order the best possible way since I was new. I see that they have new salmon on the menu. It was salmon + strawberry sesame it sounded intriguing but today I was craving for some grilled chicken salad so I did. Did I regret it? Not at all. I will be back. "If you're new here get the pita chips with garlic sauce it's so bomb!" The guy next to me gave me that pointers so I did. Their pita chips (get the crispy one not soft ....or why not both!!!) really are out of this world! He was just a customer waiting in line like I was and told me to enjoy my dinner. Nice people here! Here to spread love.

But they list all the ingredients in completely different order making it hard to compare. Bad cognitive design. Proof that it's just another soulless corporate cash-grab with a "healthy" facade slapped on top of its glazed strawberry salmon bowl and the sugary tangerine aleppo drink you washed it down with. Every table had crumbs on it. The workers should wipe down the dining room at least every 30 minutes during peak hours to keep it clean for customers. Some of the workers seemed to be in a pretty bad mood. I still gave it two stars still because they don't ask for a tip.

The food tasted homemade and delicious and after getting to know the owner I know that she spends a lot of effort and time preparing these dishes. I got the kicha fit-fit and the ga'at, both of which I recommend. The ga'at tastes so unique from anything I've ever had; it's got the look of a bundt cake but it's a savory dish with barley flour, yogurt, and spiced oil. This is best eaten while it's piping hot. The fit-fit was also great but there was so much food that I had to take this one home with me. The owner was kind enough to let me try some lentil sambusas and even though my pants were bursting at the seams I ate it all. Highly recommend trying this place especially if you've never had this kind of food before. AND THE COFFEE! It has a no frills selection but that coffee is out of this world good. The owner roasts the coffee beans herself. She brought the raw ones out and they're light green in color but hand roasts them in small batches- by small I mean she carried the roasted ones in a straw trivet the size of a dinner plate. By looking at this establishment you wouldn't know how gourmet her coffee is but I'm telling you you have to get some when you're there it's some of the best coffee I've had I absolutely love these kind of restaurants and am posting here to give this owner the recognition she deserves for such an awesome place. The restaurant is small and street parking only but if you want a foodie culinary experience this is the place to be.
