Ordered via Grubhub as they have great deals and are very close to me so it's super fast. Best of all of course the food is great. I love their pizzas and have had several of the menu specialties. This time I ordered a small personal all meat pizza as well as the smallest calzone. Both were great but the calzone was soooo good. Pepperoni and meatball. Stuffed with so much mozzarella and ricotta. The little side of sauce I almost forgot about bc it's so good you don't need sauce. My camera sucks and this photo makes it look kinda burned but it is not burned at all. This is brown and crisp and it was the highlight of my night. Small hole in the wall (which are the BEST places to eat) so, not too great for large crowds. Menu is simple and you can tell they use top notch ingredients! Pizza crust is nice and crispy! Chef was even kind enough to offer garlic herb butter to our pizza crust! Only downfall would be, they do not seem to have any AC. So, it could get toasty while dining in depending on the season. Still, so worth the amazing eats! We ordered: Garlic knots - TO DIE FOR... ORDER TWO! The softest full of flavor garlic knots I have EVER HAD! Ricotta spinach pizza and we added pepperoni - AMAZING! Ceasar salad - DELISH, not your typical Caesar salad. Croutons were so flavorful on their own! Along with that REAL DEAL PARM CHEESE. If in the area, definitely give this spot a try! I guess they were busier than normal because I placed an order for pickup and it was expected to take between 30 and 40 minutes but ended up taking almost 2 hours! When I got home, the pizzas weren't even cut! The dough seemed premade, was soft and floppy. The tomato sauce was very average but the vodka sauce was decent. Same with the cheese, tasted just like Pizza Hut or Domino's. I tried three different types and the chicken with vodka sauce was the best, but again overall very disappointing. I wanted to try this place because the reviews were pretty good but I don't understand why? Don't waste your time! read more

We arrived at the restaurant at 6:35 PM and we were told it was going to be another five minutes. We finally got our two pizzas at 6:52 PM. Seriously, where did you buy all your five star reviews? We got the Veggie Pizza both times which are loaded with super fresh veggies. The crust is a hand tossed style, not thick - not thin, just perfect. Wings are delicious too. The owner, Joey, is so personable. It's been nice to talk with him a little and learn about his business. He really cares about the quality of the food and it's obvious in how hard he works. My mom is super picky and it's her fav pizza spot right now - that says a lot lolol. They're located in a small shopping center with plenty of parking (near YumYum Donuts). Pretty good pizza option with some interesting flavors. I was craving pizza and checked for places around me. Was immediately drawn to the vodka chicken option as I love a vodka sauce and have never had it on pizza. I ordered through door dash and got the 12 in. vodka chicken pizza which comes with vodka sauce, parmesan cheese, shredded mozzarella cheese, grilled chicken or breaded chicken, fresh basil, and ricotta cheese. I had chosen the grilled chicken. However upon pickup they told me they had run out of grilled chicken and had tried to contact me even though I never got a call or message. I do think it was a mix up on the door dash end but I was a little disappointed I wouldn't get what I had ordered. All that being said, the flavor of the pizza was good. Good amount of toppings too. The ricotta was a nice touch to add some lightness to the overall flavor. The fresh basil was perfect. On the way back towards San Diego, I stopped by this new pizza shop in La Mesa specifically for one reason. I have been trying to find an under the radar place that serves a good Philly Cheesesteak sandwich. Several pizzerias have this item on the menu including Uncle Joey's Pizza & Grill. There were no customers when I walked into the suite which was in the Mesa Plaza. The owner was outside in the parking lot chatting on the phone, but he quickly finished his conversation and followed me inside. Large menu screens were hanging above the service counter. The specialty sandwiches, calzones, and salads were listed on the center screen with pizzas on the left screen and chicken wings, sides, and special deals on the right screen. Three types of Philly Cheesesteaks were available. I chose the Original Philly with provolone cheese as opposed to American cheese. Sliced steak and grilled onions were packed into the bun with the cheese. A side of crinkle-cut french fries came with the order which was placed in a cardboard takeout box. When I took the sandwich out to eat, it was already cut in half which was fine. The size and amount of meat and cheese were ordinary. I have been spoiled by Philly Cheesesteaks with loaded amounts of ribeye steak and cheese that spill over the top of the bread. That is my standard for a four or five-star rated sandwich of this type. The version at Uncle Joey's Pizza & Grill didn't reach this level which was why I rated my experience the way I did. read more

Another great family run pizzeria is offering New York Style Pizza, calzones, specialty sandwiches, salads, Nashville chicken wings, and pastas. I ordered the Pesto Chicken pizza pesto sauce base, mozzarella cheese, onions, sun dried tomatoes, and grilled chicken. The crust was of the thin variety and was very tasty and had good texture. It was slightly crispy and had a chew towards the ends. The pesto was flavorful. I liked that the red onions still had a good bit to them. The chicken was tender but a little seasoning on the chicken before putting on the pizza would of been. They put a very good amount of mozzarella cheese on the pizza. It was a very good pizza. The service was very friendly. They are just getting underway, I learned, and they expect some positive modifications to the menu in the near future. read more

The staff and service here are great! I ordered a calzone which was accidentally dropped and Joey came out and gave me a 2nd calzone and a soda for free. I got a 3 topping calzone and they're HUGE! They don't skimp on the toppings at all here, I can usually put down 3-4 slices of pizza effortlessly but I only was able to eat one and a half pieces before my brothers got great cheat meals. The Hank's vanilla cream soda was the best cream soda I ever had. Will definitely be returning here for cheat meals to try the rest of the menu. read more

Boneless wings were okay- ranch was delicious! Like the thinner crust and although the Slice app is convenient, our first time was a miss- they made our pizza way too early and I had to reheat it in the oven, so time your order carefully. The staff did offer to remake them, but I didn't have time to wait around. 2nd time was flawless and pizzas were fresh and hot. This was my first time trying Uncle Joey's, and I want to note that I picked up a pizza to bring home; not dine-in or delivery. I have to first give a big shoutout to the owner Joey. I told him that I was a first-time customer, and he kindly welcomed me and introduced himself. He treated me like a regular from the get-go. The order was a 16" cheese pizza. Even though the menu had an array of specialty pizzas, calzones, and wings, I simply wanted to start with the good ol' hand tossed cheese. Joey offered to baste the crust in garlic parmesan, and I couldn't say no. It came out with a crispy bottom, melted cheese throughout, and a great tasting sauce. A+ The last little piece I wanted to chat about was the homemade ranch he included. He said it was made fresh in the store, and it was easy to tell. I highly recommend it even if you're not a ranch fan. That fresh dill hits! Overall, I have to give it to Joey.
