Pastrami sandwich with mozzarella delicious
Lance F.

So one here to guess is for the first time tried their pastrami sandwich has mozzarella on it really good pastrami sandwich I like the bread when it's crispy not soggy and the pastrami was very well flavored not too salty just a really good pastrami sandwich definitely going to go back and try some of their other sandwiches all in all great experience and the coffee was really good by the way give it a try I don't give five stars to everyone but service and food get five stars.

The sub in question

Come here if you want huge portions and amazing food. We got the sub, club, and onion rings. It's more of a diner Style type of restaurant which S tier type of vibe after fishing. Only giving them 4 starts because they only carry Pepsi products and I'm a Diet Coke kinda lady.

Wow! I was not expecting to leave this place with my pants unbuttoned but I had to. The sandwiches are amazing, I highly recommend the pastrami. The service was friendly and quick. It's the perfect place to stop by for a weekend lunch.

Chicken kabob and salad

The food is yummy and the portions are huge! There's definitely something for everyone. I had the chicken kabob and salad, the chicken was nice and juicy, the rice was cooked perfectly and the salad was so fresh! The Philly cheesesteak was so good, it had a lot of meat (ribeye) and was perfectly cheesy! The servers are all kind and helpful with suggestions. The location is nice and quiet, they have outside and inside seating. The mimosas are also yummy.

Fantastic sandwiches. Best pastrami in SD...huge, moist and tasty. Enough for lunch and dinner. Cheesesteak also next level. Great place for breakfast too. Wide variety of food, plenty of room for large parties and many beer selections . Seating indoors or outdoors...so there's something for everyone. A+

Eggplant Parmesan Sandwich

Incredibly friendly and welcoming staff. The menu has plenty of great options, but I'd especially recommend the gyros or anything served on their bread - the bread is outstanding. I tried the eggplant parm sandwich, which was on the salty side, but overall satisfying and tasty.

It was expensive (over $70 for 2 18-in pizzas) and all 4 adults agreed it was bland. We got the rosemary potato and margherita, which was especially bad. There were actually sections on the marg with no cheese at all - just sauce on dough, and the fresh mozz used was so sparingly it wasn't even detectable. (My 2 year old however, loved it, because she usually pulls the cheese off anyway lol.) The basil was also nonexistent, a few dots on the whole thing. The rosemary potato was lacking in flavor as well - THICK bready crust with nothing to balance it out (more sauce or cheese?) so it felt dry and hard to finish. Honestly both pizzas needed salt, which was interesting because they were two different sauces altogether. Other than the bummer pizza, it took so long to try it bc their hours were so unpredictable - closed Saturdays, sometimes a Friday, Tuesday? Another time, Google (and ordering apps) had the "opening" time listed as 9:30 PM... Even today (Labor Day) I called and they said "open til 8 but take our last order at 4:45pm." What?? I also tried to order on DoorDash but they didn't have the potato pizza on there?? Also the pepperoni was $37 on their site but $28 on door dash. The whole business aspect just seems like a mess. Worth mentioning bc it is not advertised anywhere but it's totally vegetarian. Buffalo, Hawaiian, all without meat. Pepperoni pizza only available with plant based fake pepperoni. Happy I ordered bc my husband totally missed that and would've been annoyed by it if we ordered it mistakenly.

Also, a 5% service fee is tacky, just raise your prices. We've been coming to Surf Rider off and on for many years now. The pizza is better than most others in the area, except for La Mesa Pizzawerks, but they have odd hours that never seem to work out for us. Over the last year Surf Rider has been our go to pizza spot but several times over the past few months the wait just isn't worth it. The wings are good and the ranch is stellar. Unfortunately, tonight might have been the night that did it for us. We called our order in for a pizza (5:15), knots, and some ranch and were told 20 minutes. We swung by on the way home from the park (about 5:35) and my wife ran in to pick it up. She paid and got told 5 minutes, no big deal, but 5 minutes turned to 10, then 15, then 20. At this point she came to the car to tell me and check in on me and our hungry toddler. She went back in and the pizza was ready a few minutes later, but no knots. Just another few minutes, but they hands 6 knots to someone who ordered just a minute ago. The knots come out quickly and we leave (6:02). We get home (less than 5 minutes away) to find the knots were cold and the pizza was soggy and floppy. We had to throw it all in the toaster oven a few slices at a time to even attempt to enjoy it. We order pizza for the convenience, but generally, this isnt convenient. I get being busy, but sometimes you just have that experience that draws a line, unfortunately, this was that for us. If you want to come and have a few drinks and a slice, this spot would probably be fine for you. Dinner to go, or a whole 'za just isn't really the move.

We ordered the 'That's My Boy' and 'Meet Meat' pizza plus their fries. Their deep dishes were light and crispy. I loved the sweet sauce, jalapeño and ricotta cheese combo on That's My Boy pizza. The Mastiff Fries had a wonderful crispy texture. They are like thinly sliced potato wedges. (Our order is without cilantro which normally comes with it) The staff was super friendly and the restaurant was clean. I had never had a smash burger before so again my expectations were a little more than the average person. They did not disappoint the flavors were so delicious. I especially enjoyed the garlic aioli more than I thought I would (it is more like a mayo for this burger). The burger came with a a handful of pickled peppers and mini pickles on side. They were good but felt a little out of place for my taste. This place is definitely more of a bar feel than I expected and smaller than I thought it would be, and the seating was tight with most all the tables being bar height. The last thing to keep in mind the parking lot is small but there is street parking, but is leads to residential area so it can be limited to. Overall the burger had good flavor and I will be back to try more on the menu. If you are looking for a beer with your burger there was a lot of choices. Also, if you are into sports, there are several televisions on with a few different events playing.

First of all, I've not really been a huge deep dish fan. And these are hefty pies! But once you let your teeth sink into a slice, you are delighted by the crunch and crispness of the edges and yet the delicate lightness of the dough in the middle. How does he do that? It's not heavy. But it's thick on flavor. The classic is the pepperoni, with or without jalapeños (for those who like some heat). Those lil' meat discs are fired to perfection w/ a perfect toasty crunch. That's how I like it. So good. The marinara is just right for me. It's not overflowing and trying to cover up anything. But the spices and combo are well balanced. Ok now, you gotta try a specialty pie. They are orderable on certain days depending on what sources are available that week. We have ordered delivery (DoorDash or Localby Toast) and we've ordered online and picked up at the window, and since Hoffers Cigar Beer & Wine Bar opened a couple weeks ago, we've ordered online and they deliver it right to our table next door!
