I loved this place! The night before coming here for takeout, I had Mediterranean food down at Seaport Village. It was tasty and satisfying... but this place BLEW MY MIND. The moment I walked in, I was warmly greeted and asked if I wanted a table for one. I said no, I was hoping to order takeout, and she kindly invited me to sit at the bar while I looked over the menu. Right away, the atmosphere felt welcoming, beautiful, and relaxed. I ordered my food, sipped my water, and honestly didn't think I had ordered that much. Then she came out with multiple filled brown bags of food! First of all, the prices were amazing. Second... the food was TOP NOTCH and completely different from what I had the night before. Everything was packed with flavor without being overloaded with salt. Fresh, vibrant, rich, and incredibly satisfying. The waitress/hostess was knowledgeable, friendly, and gave great recommendations on what to try. You can tell the staff truly cares about the experience. I will absolutely be back the next time I visit San Diego again. And not that I recommend eating while driving ... but the next day on my drive back to Ventura County, I spread out my leftovers and happily snacked on hummus, baba ghanoush, and dolma all the way home. From the first bite, it was clear this isn't just food, it is craft. You can taste the care, the precision, and the pride. Every element felt thoughtfully prepared, balanced, and deeply satisfying without trying too hard. The standout for me was the biryani, comforting, and perfectly executed. But everything impressed. The tzatziki was bright and refreshing, the hummus topped with beef shawarma was rich and flavorful, and the ney classic plate was generous enough to easily feed two, maybe even three, without sacrificing quality anywhere on the plate. It was the perfect way to try a lot of their items at once and that one disappointed! What really says it all is that I am already looking forward to the leftovers, which is rare for me. I always feel encouraged when a restaurant's restrooms are tastefully appointed. Ney's was very nicely decorated with a number of beautiful wall coverings. There was also a wonderfully scented air freshener. Tina was a superb hostess/server. Wonderful smile and no mistaking which menu items she has a fondness for. LOVED the food at this spot. Came in for the SD Restaurant Week deal for $35 for a 3 course (appetizer, entree, dessert). They have a pretty solid list of options of which we ordered: Appetizer: -Flame grilled Shrimp: 2 pieces, pretty large sized, nicely seasoned, and a bit of heat, served with grilled lemon and tzatziki with cucumber chunks. Wish there was more! -Ney Mediterranean salad: olives, parsley, cucumber, red onions, tomatoes, peppers (not spicy) and two big blocks of feta. A fresh contrast from the shrimp Entrees: -Chicken Tikka: huge portion with rice, tomatoes, delicious pickled cabbage and radish, grilled tomato and spicy pepper. Came with a side of garlic spread. Chicken was juicy and flavorful and the rice had raisins and almonds -Lamb Quzi: lamb shank on the bone, pickled veggies, fresh onion slices, grilled tomato and spicy pepper, all atop delicious rice with raisins and almonds. This was also served with a side of white bean soup Dessert: We each got two pieces of their delicious pistachio baklava It's super clean inside and they were playing Sia, Rihanna, and other pop faves from the 2000's. Service was pretty quick and there was only one server. 3% credit card charge fee, and still working on their beer and wine license but they do have a good selection of mocktails and 0.0 Heineken. Pretty big entree portions so we had plenty to take home for a second meal each. This place is DELECTABLE!!! I wish i could give 6 stars. I had the greek salad for appetizer, it was tossed with greek dressing and served with two big feta blocks. The serving was very generous, the salad itself was very fresh and crispy. My favorite was the entree. I had the lamb quzi, slow braised served with grilled onion & tomato plus lentils. I don't think I can describe how delicious this was, everyone needs to go try it themselves! For dessert I had the pistachio ricotta, it was so light and fluffy, it melted right into my mouth. Came here for the first time and this place did not disappoint! Excellent customer service they were very attentive and talked to everyone. Food was solid, ordered the Al Muhib Grill to try out everything. The best part of the platter was the lamb kebab it was cooked very well and was not too dry. Other meats were great too but the beef shawarma I found a little dry. The garlic sauce and other white sauce went well with everything. I enjoyed eating the Ney rice the most over Baryank rice because I'm not a cinnamon kinda guy. Lots of bread to go with the latter which was nice. Overall very solid meal and filling for 3 people, definitely would come again if I had a big party! read more

Recommended by a good friend. There were about 18 of us, went there for lunch. Slow day, place to ourselves. Place was clean. Was told that there are live entertainment in the evening on some days, and it's a must see. Service was great, very accommodating ( since I have few food allergies). Service was also fast, considering it was a large group with different dishes ordered. To share and as individuals. Everyone was very happy with their orders. Ingredients were fresh. Foods were flavorful and authentic Mediterranean cuisine. All staff were very friendly. They took empty plates off the table. Spicing of each dish is very delicate and purposefully expands your taste buds. Hummus very smooth and creamy. Beef Burke delicate satisfying phyllo dough stuffed with minced beef. I had been wanting to try Ney Restaurant for some time, as I love Mediterranean food, and I am often in the area. On a Monday evening, I was meeting a friend at the restaurant next door for dinner, and it was unexpectedly closed. Famished, we walked into Ney and asked to look at a menu. When we were given a menu that said Happy Hour was all night on Mondays, we were sold. We were quickly seated and drink orders were taken. The restaurant was simple and clean, with some plants and limited decorations. I would say, however, that the atmosphere in general lacks character and any sort of a cozy feeling. Service was decent. The servers were friendly enough, but there were times when I would have liked more water, and we were ready for wine refills long before the servers returned. We shared three items from the Happy Hour menu: the baba ganoush which was served with a lot of pita, the artichoke and chicken flatbread, and the falafel. My favorite item was the baba ganoush. It had a nice smoked flavor with some good spices. The falafel was just OK. The flatbread was also OK, but slightly dry without a lot of flavor. I don't think the Happy Hour prices were that great of a deal, but the portions were large. We shared the rest of the leftovers and we were both able to make a lunch out of them for the next day. All in all, it is a decent restaurant, but not the best Mediterranean food I have had. read more

3.5 stars. I can't comment on service or ambiance since we ordered delivery. Everything was packaged very well and arrived hot. I had the beef shawarma wrap. I didn't care for the sides of picked vegetables although the quality was good. The side of fries were okay, but I wish they were a little crispier! The beef shawarma wrap was pretty tasty. I particularly loved the crispy grilled wrap. The pickled vegetables in the wrap were again a little too much for me and not a flavor profile I love. The service was fantastic. The food was ok, but my DH thought it was very good. He said we should come back again. The environment seemed sterile, it was empty. The ambiance was so so, mostly due to a very strong "cleaning" solution odor. It hit me in the face as soon as we walked in. I certainly knew that things were sprayed or wiped down with a strong chemical. I think this smell ruined the eating experience. I couldn't smell the food at all. It was as if I was eating that smell. I think I might be too sensitive to it. Anyway, if they used less smelly cleaner, they might have more customers. This past weekend, I reserved a table for our large party to celebrate a birthday and college graduation...and Ney did not disappoint. They were attentive and provided great service to us from the moment we walked in until the moment we left. We ordered several cocktails that were all beautifully prepared and tasted great. We ordered TONS of food to share and from the starters to the mains, we loved everything that was brought to the table! An added bonus was happy hour prices were available on a Saturday afternoon Food was delicious!! We ordered Tzatziki and pita to start. Pita was fresh and tender, the dip had little crunchy cubes of cucumber and seasoned perfectly. We ordered Chicken Tikka Wrap and the Grilled Chicken Tikka Artichoke Flatbread. It was delicious!! Been coming here since they have opened and it's a neighborhood hidden gem. The interior is large, so they have the capacity to host larger parties, nicely decorated and cleanI love the music they place giving you an experience of the culture. The menu has their top specialities and you cannot go seeing from appetizers to entrees. My favorites are the lentil soup, hummus, babaghanoush, chicken skewers or the large dinner plates that can be shared if you don't eat much. The food is seasoned well and meats are tender plated with rice and vegetables. I often don't have room for dessert because I am full. The time I have had their Turkish ice cream with baklava, it's perfect to end the meal. Service is professional and friendly. There is a parking lot in the small plaza they are located. I placed a takeout order from Ney Restaurant and was really impressed! The food was delicious. I ordered the Al Muhib Grill for four people, and it was more than enough--we had plenty of leftovers. I also got the Ney Style Greek Salad and Hummus, both of which were super fresh and full of flavor. What really caught my eye when looking at the menu was the Organic Mary's Chicken--love seeing quality ingredients like that featured. While I didn't dine in, the restaurant had a warm and inviting ambiance when I stopped by to pick up the food--clean and welcoming. I went with six friends during restaurant week. We made a reservation and we seating quickly and pleasantly. Here are the takeaways: The Good 1. The food was good but not something I would rave about. 2. The espresso gelato is worth raving about. 3. Food presentation is lovely. The Bad 1. The service was AWFUL. It took over 15 minutes to order the first glasses of wine. At one point, the other end of the table was brought a second round of wine but no one had asked the other end if they wanted to order another round. 2. Timing was terrible. Both the server and kitchen timing were bad. Partial drink orders taken and partial delivery of both drinks and food. One person didn't get their first course delivered until most of us were finished with ours. Two entrees were delivered 15 minutes after everyone else's. Mine was one of them and I had ordered the falafel plate. It doesn't come with any sauce and I asked for side of tzatziki. The server didn't want to bring it and tried to talk me out of it and then said I'd have to pay $3. I said I didn't mind the cost. Twenty minutes later she finally brings it but I and the rest of the table were done with our entrees. I was pretty annoyed by this point and told her I didn't want it now and to please take it off my bill. She wasn't happy and tried to give the excuse that they were busy. How long does it take to dish out a spoonful of cold sauce into a monkey dish? At that point in time, I counted twelve tables and two servers. A server should be able to handle six tables. Making people wait for their food until the rest of their party is basically done is not acceptable. I also had to flag down the serve to come collect our payment after more than fifteen minutes of the cards being out on the table. I will not be returing to Ney. I had been looking forward to trying this new place but the poor service soured the experience. read more

My father had come all the way down from Los Angeles and I was trying to celebrate fathers day a week early. I was super upset and annoyed. This Middle Eastern cuisine restaurant was located in a small La Mesa strip mall off Lake Murray Blvd. They used to close at 2 am which was really late for weeknights. There was only one occupied table when I came for dinner. The dining area was modern and well decorated with plenty of seating. The former menu had two pages which were lit up with a white backlight when you opened up the cover. I had never seen such a feature before so I thought it was really cool. The left side listed the sandwiches and main courses while the right side featured the appetizers, beer, wine, hot drinks, cold drinks and hookah flavors. I chose the Lamb Tikka which was comprised of three boneless skewers of lamb (cooked medium as I requested) resting in between two round pieces of pita bread. It was accompanied with greek olives, pickles, grilled onions, and grilled tomatoes. The meat was tender and cooked nicely. Unfortunately, this main course could have used a little more for the price. At the very least, there should have been a cup of lentil soup and some tahini or other sauces to spread on the pita and lamb. Even a side salad chould have been added to the plate. Overall, I gave Ney Restaurant & Cafe a three star rating for my dining experience. read more
