The sandwiches hit the spot, but both could've used just a little more moisture to really shine. I had the Garden Sandwich with Havarti cheese added, and I loved the generous helping of fresh veggies--it felt wholesome and satisfying. However, it was a bit on the dry side. A spread like hummus or a light dressing would've taken it to the next level. My husband ordered the Varsity Sandwich, and he agreed it was solid, but also could've benefited from a bit of sauce or spread to balance things out. Walked in and tried this place for the first time. I checked the menu before hand. I ordered the Varsity sandwich specifically because I wanted some bacon, that was the main selling point for me. Unfortunately, there was no bacon on it at all. They weren't that busy when I ordered in person. So, I'm very disappointed eating this. Since I didn't want to be wrong before leaving this review, I called them to confirm the varsity sandwich is supposed to include bacon, and it is. I told the individual on the phone that mine didn't come with bacon and they didn't offer any sort of solution. Pretty disappointing, especially for a $13 sandwich. UGH come on! I went out of my way to give this small business a chance, thinking it would be cheaper and better than a chain, but nope to both! It was $15.50 after all said and done. I should have stuck with my gut just gone to Jersey Mike's or sprouts. I won't be back here. Randomly came upon this place so decided to stop in. What a great deli, with lots of choices! Huge sandwich, chip and drink variety! The sandwich I got number 26 which had turkey, bacon and avocado was huge and delicious! The onion bread was flavorful and soft. I really enjoyed the flavor on the turkey and that the bacon was very crispy! I only wished there was more vegetables vs meat ratio but it was still a very filling and delicious sandwich. When I will go to a supermarket nearby to buy some groceries, I was hungry and saw the Tasty Deli, they had a lot of meals to choose from. I decided to try the "Build Your Own Sandwich," and it was really good. Next time, I'd love to try something else from their menu. There are plenty of tables and seats in the area, and the bathroom is spacious. If there's a long line, I usually just grab what I need from Vons and come back when the meal is ready. I'm so thankful for Livar at Tasty Deli. I was in a pinch and needed a large catering tray the same day and while they usually need 24 hour notice. Livar told me to give him 30 min and he would make it for me. I went next door and by the time I came back he was finishing the tray. He gave me condiments and even offered to take it to my car. This is my go to in when I'm in the area. I had a project in Santee for 6 days. I came to this spot for lunch 4 out of the 6 days. First day I got the hot pastrami which was my favorite( highly recommend). Next day I got the most popular turkey sandwich which is the varsity. Then came back after a few days and I was feeling their Philly cheesesteak so I got that and it was bomb. Last day I was in town I got the chicken Chipotle gouda sandwich which was my 2nd favorite. They even have gelato pops in the restaurant. They have soups of the day so that's how you know it's fresh ! Restaurant was clean and staff was nice which is always a plus. Even if I don't have a project somewhere near like lakeside or El Cajon I'll still come here ! Definitely coming back !! read more

He laughed at me because I admitted that the sandwich with the sides cut off and cut into triangles was for me not for a kid And the sandwiches are so fresh and perfectly proportioned! They are generous with the proteins and smiles! The only thing they are missing are gift cards! 2/9/2025 - My first time here. I called in an order around 11:50am for the following: Caprese Panini, $11.95, Cali B.C.A Panini, $11.95 and a Philly Cheesesteak , $13.95 and this Philly is my to go at any new place if they have it. I was told it will be ready in 15-20 minutes. Arrived in 20 minutes and it was already. No one sitting inside and three employees. Saw a photograph on the wall of the Philly cheesesteak and I was PLEASE PLEASE be anything close to this when I bring it home. Friends enjoyed their sandwiches. The Philly was disappointing. It looked nothing like the photograph and really wasn't flavorful. Not much meat on it as well. Flat and mostly bread. Suggest spend more money on the meat. Friends will go there again, I will skip just because my first trip there and I leave with an impression. 2 stars removed for the Philly. 2 stars for the other sandwiches and 1 star for being ready on time. Review is for sandwich only. Ordered the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich, the size of the roll is almost a foot long and there was virtually no meat. It was all bread, cheese and sauce. For the price I wouldn't recommend. You'd get more meat on a Subway sandwich. read more

My buddy's work moved from lemon grove to santee, I was helping him find a new sandwich deli and found tasty deli here on yelp. I ended up liking the photos and reviews we decided to try it for him. I had a roast beef on white roll my wife had a salad. Salad was quite large and she said it was very good. My Sammy was great loaded with meat and veggies. Loved it. They have a great selection of soft drinks in coolers and 6 or 8 different fountain drinks including stubborn soda very good roote beer and a cream soda. I've ordered regularly from tasty deli but I had a disturbing experience last Thirsday. I ordered on the website and went in to pick up my sandwiches as usual. I gave my name to the young lady at the counter. There was no one else in the restaurant I.e they were not busy. She looked confused and said are you doordash? I said no and gave my name again. She said doordash. We eventually straightened it out. They use doordash for ordering on their website. But I'm offended by being called doordash. That is not my name. I am a human being with a real name and I entered that name when I ordered on the website. I've been a regular customer up until this point and one might wish that they knew my name when I walked in the door. But no... my name is doordash at Tasty Deli. It would've been great to actually eat something from this place after a long morning since there are so many other restaurants around the plaza. Even waiting around for 20 minutes there wasn't any acknowledgement of me even being in the restaurant. I'm a pretty patient person, but I'd wait around for longer if anyone was even willing to take my order so I could sit down and relax.
