You get a hugee pizza for an affordable price! Also everything was delicious -- the salad, pizza and tiramisu. There are plenty of parking and couple tables to dine in at the restaurant. The service was quick and the cashier was very friendly. We'll definitely be back when we have pizza cravings!

Truly wanted to gatekeep this place but holy... I finally found a spot worth driving to for the solid slice of pizza. Took less than 5 min to order and get my slices ready to eat on the back of my truck. Everyone inside was hustling, food was hot and toasty, not wet no sag in the pizza fold - sooooo fire. I grabbed three slices; testarossa margh and pep. Gave mom the margh so I'll have to come back but damn the other two were on point. Tight knit seating but nice and cozy. Def will come back soon a wish.

I am a NJ native and this pizza spot passes the test! So many delicious flavors in each slice and the service was extremely friendly and easy going. Prices were very reasonable. The vibe inside is so friendly, with walls covered by handmade pictures drawn by children. I would definitely come back here to get my pizza fix - my fav slices were the truffle mushroom one and classic pepperoni.

Garlic cheese bread, took a few slices before I started to take photo, sorry, hungry people

Small pizza shop with a lot of heart and flavor! I wanted pizza for Mother's Day because who doesn't like pizza?! And I just wanted a simple and tasty meal that want crazy over packed with everyone going bananas. Well folks, I got some really flavorful and amazing pizza that truly hit the spot that's for sure! You can taste the quality of ingredients in every bite. It's got the right acidity to the sauce, the right amount of garlic, cheese, and those cupping pepperonis are just little caps of goodness! They make their ranch in house and it should be illegal for ranch to be this good! BTW, I hate ranch, like I really have never liked ranch ever but I'm willing to try places that say they make theirs. And usually I'm let down but I was pleasantly surprised at how good this was!!! My autistic child with sensory disorder even liked it, that kid doesn't like much but he liked everything up in here! Even my husband who doesn't like ranch, loved it! We ordered a garlic cheese bread, which was phenomenal and the right ratio to get that cheese pull and buttery goodness, and heavenly bites of garlic within. We tried the carnivore pizza and put only half ricotta on the pie, because again, autistic child, he's picky. The crust on this pizza is so amazing, it's chewy but soft, and a bit pillowy at some points but great crunch, it's like everything you want to feel and taste in a crust. Such a beautiful science I feel that's been achieved, I usually like my crust to be thin but I like how this is a Happy in between of thin but a touch of thickness. To close the meal, we just had to try the tiramisu because like who doesn't want to finish that goodness with something sweet! Everything was amazingly tasty and loaded with fresh ingredients and a lot of love. The crew working are all nice and friendly and told us a bit about how the owner got started, it's always nice hearing coworker's talk about what they love about where they work and why they feel it's one of the best spots for pizza. That in my book means a lot because it goes to show that they run a good shop and happy workers can help a place keep running the way it needs to. Such a wonderful place that I hope it keeps doing well and we all help get their name out and about in San Diego! My family and I will be back, y'all are doing an amazing job! Thank you so much and I can't wait to come back and try more amount pizza flavors with y'all.

Cheesy Bread

Had to come back to the pizza standard since they are the best New York style pizza we've had. We ordered the cheesy bread, a slice of the marguerita, testarossa and the white deluxe pizza along with the tierra-mi-su. My favorite had to be the marguerita or the white pizza. The white pizza had a hint of fresh lime with the sausage. It was so interesting and yummy! The marguerita was also light and easy to eat, it packed a lot of flavor even without any protein on it! There was also the perfect amount of ricotta on the white and testarossa slices, and the crusts were light and crispy. I could easily go through 4 slices myself. The cheesy bread was amazing this time. It came out hot and fresh, had the perfect amount of cheese and the crust was light, crunchy and super easy to eat. The crust was buttery too. The tierra-mi-su was pretty yummy as well. It had a strong rum/alcohol aftertaste but I enjoyed it. It wasn't too sweet either! Service was excellent. We received our order within 10 minutes and the workers there are kind and informative. There is some seating inside the shop and can get pretty busy during peak dining hours. Plenty of parking out in front in a shared lot with other businesses. Would highly recommend!

Tiramisu

I found this place on social media and noticed all the good reviews online. Came here on a weekend evening and many people were there for takeout. We decided to get a few slices to eat there and they were really good! I enjoyed the truffle and testarossa. The slices are priced really well too! I also tried the tiramisu and liked it as well. The only downside to it was the alcohol; it was quite strong and maybe too overpowering at the end. I'm glad I tried it but I probably wouldn't get it in the future. Service was quick and the staff was kind. I would definitely come back when I'm craving pizza.

Pepperoni and honey pizza

Pizza here is consistently good! Best place to get pizza in MILES! The pizzas only come in one size (extra large) but you can get a half and half pizza to be able to get two different flavors! Nothing beats the delux white though!!

I can't get enough of this place! If you're looking for pizza by the slice or even a whole pie you should definitely try this place. The crust is tasty and always cooked perfectly. If they made it into breadsticks I would definitely buy them! They have several different types of pizzas with tasty toppings. From original cheese or pepperoni to truffle or margarita. The UnHawaiian is super good. They change up the options daily. You can get the pizza hot or take it home and throw it in the oven (or air fryer!). There is a small seating area and they even have amazing tiramisu. This is not a fancy place but the pizza is great and the staff are friendly it gets 5 stars from me. Just remember, they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The pizza here is amazing! The crust is super thin New York style pizza, so crispy that it almost shatters under your teeth. Had just a regular pepperoni slice for $4, but it was so flavorful and tasty. You can have your pick of sauce, they have a ranch and a habanero. Fairly popular, lots of regulars in and out for lunch but they're super fast with getting pizza out. Wouldn't hesitate to come back for a good NY slice.

Half Delux and half un-Hawaiian
Tiffany C.

A great local pizza spot! I like how we are able to get half and half to different flavors. We ordered the deLux and un-Hawaiian. Both were good. I think the ricotta on the un-Hawaiian was overpowering most of the flavor. I wasn't really able to taste the pineapples. The sausage and lemon flavor was a nice touch to the deLux.

pepperoni slice while adding a testarossa an unhawaiian.

Wanted to find a pizza place in or near Kearny Mesa coming down from North County. The Pizza Standard did not disappoint. My wife and I both got a pepperoni slice while adding a testarossa an unhawaiian. Very tasty with just enough crisp. Small inside dining area (no restroom) We noticed a lot of folks picking up for home enjoyment :)

Pizza by the slice is a must for a successful shop
Todd I.

The standard is set! This is a legit NY Style pizza shop pumping out pipping hot thin crust pizzas in Tierrasanta San Diego. Greeted upon entering the small establishment and ordered a slice of mushroom truffle ($4) pepperoni basil($4), and ended with the Gold Standard Cheese ($2). Worth every dollar. This establishment was the busiest in the strip mall including the small Vons. I ate my slices in shop and watched patrons come and go non stop for 15 minutes and the pizza baker kept making pie after pie the entire time. The dough was my jam. Chewy, crispy and without flop. Next time you're in the mood for pizza go out of your way to get this pizza. It's that good. Will be returning often.

Is the truffle pizza available to purchase a single slice?

Yes! We generally have slices of truffle, delux white, margarita, cheese, and pepperoni, and then a sixth rotating option. Obviously slices run out especially when we are busy but we try to keep the case stocked. :))

I also gota pepperoni, basil, ricotta, hot honey slice which was better. The crust was decent and had more chew than crisp. While it was okay, I'd prefer to go to another shop when I'm craving a slice.

Pizza Wasn't the Only Thing Getting Fired Up Outside…read more We weren't even customers here, but after what I saw outside this place I definitely won't be one in the future. We were standing on the sidewalk near the red seating area in front of Filippi's Pizza Grotto for about ten minutes finishing a smoke. I had recently experienced a flare-up of a chronic illness, which significantly affected my well-being. During this episode,I had felt the need to smoke as a way to manage the heightened stress and discomfort caused by my condition. Right as we finished and were about to leave, a police car pulled up (it honestly looked like the officer was just stopping by to grab lunch). That's when an older lady employee from the restaurant suddenly came outside and said, "Do you mind moving down? The smoke is going into my restaurant." Fair request. We immediately responded respectfully with "Sorry miss," and started walking away to avoid any issue. But instead of leaving it there, she kept escalating the situation while they were already leaving, repeating things like "This is a family business, have some respect!" -- which didn't really make sense considering we had already apologized and were doing exactly what she asked. What made the whole thing feel strange was the timing. We had been standing there for around ten minutes already. If the smoke was truly bothering the restaurant, why wait until the exact moment a police car pulled up to come outside and confront us? From the outside, it honestly looked like the presence of the police suddenly gave her the confidence to make a scene and try to draw attention to us even though we were already complying. It appears she wanted to get us into legal trouble with her making it a bigger scene in front of the police. Another thing that didn't sit right with me was that we were the only Hispanics standing in the area at the time and the only people she chose to confront. I'm not saying that was the intention, but from a bystander's perspective it definitely didn't look great. Also, I'm still confused by the "this is a family restaurant" comment. What exactly does that mean in this situation? Are people who smoke not allowed to eat there? Because we weren't even customers at the moment we were simply standing on a public sidewalk and immediately moved when asked. If someone respectfully complies with your request, there's really no reason to continue escalating the situation or trying to involve the police by drawing attention to it. If this is how people are treated outside the restaurant, it doesn't exactly inspire confidence about how customers are treated inside. It appears that if you're Hispanic or a smoker you should steer clear of this place. I wouldn't be surprised if she has ICE on speed dial.

When we got there it was a 45 min wait so we sat at the bar. The bartender was very nice and helpful. The cider I got was ok but it was only $9 so I'm not complaining. Let's talk about food. I got the burrata pizza. This was my fault cause i was still expecting sauce but there was none. Which I kind of understand but for $19 I would have rather just got a burrata platter as like a dip. The dough was honestly amazing. Crust is very fluffy, closer to the center is extremely thin. Overall it was good and fresh but I wouldn't pay $19 for it again. Sister got the spicy salami. Again the dough was good. Sauce was good definitely a more savory red sauce. Salami was fs spicy, we love spice but this fs had a kick. Overall good I think it could have been great with a hot honey. Pizza is on the bigger side. There's only 4 slices but it's more like 8 regular slices. More than enough for one person. We both only had half and saved the rest for home. To wrap it up, the ambiance is good for a nice night out but the food is only ok for the price. Very fresh and good but I would rather spend less on a good pizza than more on a gourmet place. Would recommend for a nice date night or something like that.

Next, we got a glass of prosecco. I told the waiter that I only like wine that tastes much more sweet then bitter or strong and he made a perfect suggestion along with giving us a sampler of 3 different wines which was so generous. I got to try them all and pick the one I liked the most, but even the samples were a generous size. For main course I got one of the current options for the cheese wheel pasta they make in front of you in cacio e pepe and my husband got the formaggi pizza with truffle mushrooms. My husband absolutely loved his pizza and the crust was one of the best he's ever had. My pasta was fresh and had a ton of sauce and cream so they didn't skimp at all. I could tell easily that they use very high quality Parmesan because i'm a Parmesan connoisseur and could taste how potent it was. They let me have as much extra as I wanted on without limiting since I enjoy a lot on it which was also a plus in my book. Next time I would get a pasta that's a little lighter, because it was a more heavy dish and it tends to make me feel pretty full after which is totally a me thing, but they have so much on the menu to try that I'm sure I'll love whatever I get even more next time. Lastly, dessert. We got a regular tiramisu and it was absolutely amazing. They put a ton of cream which is exactly what I look for. It wasn't too espresso or cocoa strong and had a perfect ratio. The cream was so light and fluffy that we had to get another one to bring home and eat tomorrow night! I had seen a previous review on here about someone not liking the tiramisu here and it not meeting their expectations for a more upscale Italian place but I've been to quite a few authentic Italian gems and this one had tiramisu up there so I'd have to disagree and completely recommend! The service was impeccable. Every waiter was kind and prompt, constantly making sure we were taken care of and getting what we needed. The atmosphere was also a plus for us because we have a 1 year old baby and there was enough room where we weren't too cramped or crowded in, and it wasn't too loud or overstimulating. The place was very clean and taken care of as well as the bathrooms. All in all, I loved this place and I will be coming back. I would definitely recommend Monello for a nice little date night, and don't forget the tiramisu.
