Wanted to LOVE this place so bad because it's walking distance to us but we finally tried it tonight and - no. We won't be ordering again sadly. It was expensive (over $70 for 2 18-in pizzas) and all 4 adults agreed it was bland. We got the rosemary potato and margherita, which was especially bad. There were actually sections on the marg with no cheese at all - just sauce on dough, and the fresh mozz used was so sparingly it wasn't even detectable. (My 2 year old however, loved it, because she usually pulls the cheese off anyway lol.) The basil was also nonexistent, a few dots on the whole thing. The rosemary potato was lacking in flavor as well - THICK bready crust with nothing to balance it out (more sauce or cheese?) so it felt dry and hard to finish. Honestly both pizzas needed salt, which was interesting because they were two different sauces altogether. Other than the bummer pizza, it took so long to try it bc their hours were so unpredictable - closed Saturdays, sometimes a Friday, Tuesday? Another time, Google (and ordering apps) had the "opening" time listed as 9:30 PM... Even today (Labor Day) I called and they said "open til 8 but take our last order at 4:45pm." What?? I also tried to order on DoorDash but they didn't have the potato pizza on there?? Also the pepperoni was $37 on their site but $28 on door dash. The whole business aspect just seems like a mess. Worth mentioning bc it is not advertised anywhere but it's totally vegetarian. Buffalo, Hawaiian, all without meat. Pepperoni pizza only available with plant based fake pepperoni. Happy I ordered bc my husband totally missed that and would've been annoyed by it if we ordered it mistakenly. read more

Dough is extremely tough. Cheese is hard and coagulated in a thick layer on top. You can even see this just from the photos of their pizza case, so I'm not sure why I decided to give this spot a shot other than that I hoped it would be good bc I live in the area. This place is smaller but super cute inside really clean and was playing jazz when I walked in it was great to hear something that wasn't on the radio. Person that helped us was super friendly and pleasant! We ordered 2 slices of pizza and they were yummy! We also ordered truffle fries to go with it. This review is only for my Too Good To Go experience. If you're using Too Good To Go to save money and reduce food waste, skip this place. The experience started off badly. I walked in, and neither employee acknowledged me. A man and a woman were standing there talking to each other while I awkwardly waited. I eventually had to say "hi" first before either of them greeted me. It felt unwelcoming and unprofessional. The real disappointment came when I got home and opened the box. It contained only three slices of plain pepperoni pizza. No variety, no surprise, nothing. I specifically chose this place because it has high ratings on Too Good To Go for value and variety, but it delivered neither. For what I paid, this was a complete waste of money, time, and energy. I could have gone to Costco or Sam's Club and gotten fresher pizza, more food, and far better value. Instead, I drove here, waited to be acknowledged, and left with what felt like the bare minimum. If this is what they consider a Too Good To Go bag, I can't recommend it. Based on my experience, the staff wasn't welcoming, the value was terrible, and the bag didn't live up to the ratings at all. I stumbled on this pizza place while looking for a quick, small snack on the Too Good to Go app. I had three slices, all very very tasty. Sauce was fabulous, and the dough delicious. There are whole pizzas and pastas, but also pizza by the slice (large slice for $5, or deals like 2 slices and soda for $13). Very reasonably priced, friendly service). Great food, really love this place. HOWEVER: Most people don't seem to know this and I'm really surprised when restaurants don't know this!!!! When using aluminum foil, always put the shiny side TOWARDS THE FOOD. There's a good reason why there is a shiny side- that side is polished by the manufacturer. When you wrap food with the dull side next to the food, that allows aluminum to leach into the food! I'm looking forward to the next time I come here that the food is wrapped properly. La Mesa Pizzaworks is the new kid in town. Not only that, but they are also a Kosher supervised by the San Diego VAAD. I didn't get a whole pie, but some slices to try a variety. I tried the margharita, the BBQ, the "I can't not believe it is pepperoni" slice. All the slices were great. I was particularly fond of the BBQ sauce on one of the slices. I learned it is a house made kosher sauce, and it's delicious! It's definitely a keeper. The plant based pepperoni was great, too. It is a little on the think side, but that promotes a good chew. Its flavor was spot on, and their mind and palate registered pepperoni indeed. The Margharita slice was good, too. The sauce was tasty, and the basil was fresh. The crust on all their pizzas is slightly bready and could use a little chew, in my opinion. It is a very good house made kosher crust. They offer a good amount of inside seating. The menu consists of pizzas, leafless salads, appetizers, soups, pastas, and my favorite: calzones, which I look forward to trying on my next visit. The service was very friendly. read more

Yes! This place is awesome! Tried a few of their pizzas and let me tell you! They're all great! I got to meet one of the owners and he was super nice, this place is KOSHER! He was so kind enough to take the time to explain to me the process of how they prepare their food, the care they give to the ingredients when handling them, and a bit about himself and the other owner. It was such a pleasure to see young people making a dream come true with a small business and growing! Now on to the food. The pizzas are well priced, and they're so good! Location is great with ample parking, don't let the storefront fool you, it's a decent size inside. There's seating options inside, or you can just do take out. I can only personally provide a review for the gluten free option. I got the BBQ gluten free pizza. The toppings and flavors were great! The pizza crust was thin (as most commercially available versions are) and basic. Acceptable for the gluten free folks in your life, but nothing to write home about. Let first say the people were friendly....so I was in the area due to a sporting event at the high school across the street. Looking for a slice of pepperoni. I wish I looked at the reviews first but how can a slice of pizza be wrong right?!! Well you can...it's plant based and nowhere is that displayed. To be honest I can appreciate a plant based dish but this just wasn't good. I opted for the BBQ pizza. The cheese was weird and they added extra bbq sauce that I didn't ask for so it made the toppings slide off as if it didn't already have anything to hold on to. I love a good lunch value so I wanted to check this place out. It's clean and bright inside but that's about all it has going for it. I ordered the lunch special of 2 slices and a drink (it's just cans - no fountain soda machine). They informed me that the pepperoni is plant based which I thought was odd. I understand having vegan options but then if you want vegan cheese they charge an additional $5 (for a whole pie). I don't know why they don't have standard pepperoni. I thought I'd give it a try. The lunch special came out to $13.02 which is almost double what I pay up the street for the same order. The pizza itself was just ok and the slices were on the small side. To me, the pepperoni was inedible. I have a son with milk allergies so I have tried vegan pepperoni before and can say that this brand is just not good. As a pizza shop I really can't recommend this place. Just too expensive for small, average tasting slices and very strange plant based pepperoni. read more
