Such a wonderful experience at Limoncello! My bestie and I came for a little celebratory dinner and everything from the food to the service was great. We shared the caesar salad, gnocchi with added prawns, and the Salamino pizza with added garlic and mushrooms. You could really taste the freshness of the ingredients in everything! The gnocchi was so soft and pillowy, and the pesto sauce was flavorful without being overpowering. We added the prawns and they were HUGE, perfectly cooked, and absolutely delicious. The pizza was fresh, cheesy, garlicky and exactly what I was hoping for. Our server, Marco, was wonderful and helped us decide what to order. He even surprised us with a complimentary tiramisu for dessert, which was so light and airy and the perfect ending to our meal. This 2 star review makes me sad because we really like the food. The service last night was terrible. We sat outside for 10 minutes before being greeted by Roberto. We ordered 2 glasses of wine and our entrees at the same time. Our Caesar salad came out at the same time our wine did. It was served on a hot plate with hot lettuce. I felt like it was sitting back in the kitchen just waiting for an order. I always rave about this salad and this time it was very disappointing. Appetizer pan fresco- I'm not sure what was wrong with the focaccia, we normally love this, but the taste was way off. Shrimp pesto pizza- this was fine, good flavor. Ribeye special- served on a marble tray which looked like it hadn't been run through the dishwasher. The cook was fine and the flavor was good. We asked for water multiple times and it never came. We paid our check and then noticed it had someone else's bottle of wine on it- which we disputed and they removed. Our server was standing by the front door for most of our meal, so not sure why our service was lacking so much. He did say he wasn't even our server (but no one else was helping us except for the gentleman that cleared our plates). 2 stars because the food was still good. I planned to meet up with a friend of mine who used to work with me. We have not really seen or talked to each other in such a long time. Since she lives out in east county, I told her to meet me here. I love coming here! The staff is so friendly! And the service is always excellent! We definitely had to have the limoncello martini! Sooooo good! We started with the garlic bread, nice and buttery, and the artichoke hearts which are always sooooo good! It was nice of them to split our caesar salad for us. We both ordered the pappardelle with short rib, Italian sausage and a meatball. This was really good! For dessert, we shared the merengue, so good! It was such a great meal and great to catch up. Lucky I made a reservation because it was getting crowded. It usually is on the weekends. Again, I love coming here! Two were excellent, while the third missed the mark. The pasta dish was outstanding--perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. The salad was fresh and generously loaded with ingredients. The grilled artichoke, however, was disappointing. It was a bit soggy and heavily covered in sauce, which overwhelmed the artichoke itself. One of the fun touches is being able to see the fresh pasta hanging on drying racks, and they also prepare some pasta table-side in a giant cheese wheel, which is entertaining to watch and adds to the overall experience. I recently went to limencello for my birthday with my parents and my cousin! First we started with the calamari and fresh bread. The wine selection here is off the charts! Amazing! I have been wanting to check out their happy hour for a while now and it did not disappoint! Of course we all had to try to signature Limoncello Martini. Which at $10 a pop with a bonus full size lemon ice popsicle garnish was a steal. We also had the $9 classic and mango sangrias...yum! However the assortment of $10 plates were deliciously awesome! Between 4 of us we shared the meatballs (decent sized in marinara sauce), spaghetti carbonara, cacio e pepe, margherita pizza, and beet salad. Everything was fantastic and the serving sizes were plenty to share. The atmosphere was great with open front indoor outdoor seating and the decor right down to the bathrooms was so cute and cozy. Can't believe it's been almost two years since I dined here. The decor is modern and clean. We were given complimentary bread with butter and olive oil. For drinks I got a mocktail and a limoncello martini, which came with a popsicle! We shared the guazzetto and the insalata limoncello for our starters. My dish the Brassato, was by far the best and it was a slow cooked pork dish and it had amazing flavor and tender. The pasta dishes were not good for the others at the table. One was a special with pappardelle meat sauce that had an odd taste to it. The vodka rigatoni was not good either. The sauces had weird flavors I've never experienced before with Italian food. The arancini was so good and flavorful while the bruschetta tasted fresh. For our entrees, we had the pollo saltimbocca and the brasato. The brasato was super tender with bold flavors while the pollo saltimbocca had milder more herby flavor. Both were delicious! For our desserts we tried both the tiramisu and cannoli. I say not authentic because they have a number of salmon dishes, Salmon is not a traditional Italian fish. We did enjoy the Arancini as an appetizer. We found Limoncello on Yelp after seeing its glowing reviews, and after our first visit this past Friday evening, those reviews could not have been more accurate -- this place is a true gem in downtown La Mesa. We arrived at 6:15 for our reservation on a Friday night. Downtown La Mesa had a charming farmer's market wrapping up along the street, which added such a lovely atmosphere to the evening. We found free street parking easily, and from the moment we walked up, the experience was warm and welcoming. The hostess greeted us outside with genuine kindness, checked us in, and seated us with ease. Then came Francesca -- our server, and honestly the heart of our entire evening. Originally from Sicily, Francesca brought an authenticity and warmth to the table that is simply rare. She was attentive, knowledgeable, generous with her recommendations, and had this wonderful energy that made our whole table feel at ease and cared for. She is the kind of server you remember, and the kind you come back for. The interior is absolutely beautiful -- the colors, the design, the layout -- everything is thoughtfully done and so inviting. For food, we shared the artichoke and Brussels sprouts appetizers (both delicious), and my friend enjoyed a refreshing limoncello spritz cocktail. For our entrées, I had the chicken with mushrooms, asparagus, and mashed potatoes -- perfectly prepared -- and my mom and friend had pasta dishes that Francesca personally recommended, which they loved. We finished with the chocolate lava cake, which was indulgent and wonderful. Next time, I am absolutely trying the house-made tiramisu.
