Such a wonderful experience at Limoncello! My bestie and I came for a little celebratory dinner and everything from the food to the service was great. We shared the caesar salad, gnocchi with added prawns, and the Salamino pizza with added garlic and mushrooms. You could really taste the freshness of the ingredients in everything! The gnocchi was so soft and pillowy, and the pesto sauce was flavorful without being overpowering. We added the prawns and they were HUGE, perfectly cooked, and absolutely delicious. The pizza was fresh, cheesy, garlicky and exactly what I was hoping for. Our server, Marco, was wonderful and helped us decide what to order. He even surprised us with a complimentary tiramisu for dessert, which was so light and airy and the perfect ending to our meal. I planned to meet up with a friend of mine who used to work with me. We have not really seen or talked to each other in such a long time. Since she lives out in east county, I told her to meet me here. I love coming here! The staff is so friendly! And the service is always excellent! We definitely had to have the limoncello martini! Sooooo good! We started with the garlic bread, nice and buttery, and the artichoke hearts which are always sooooo good! It was nice of them to split our caesar salad for us. First time here, and we came for happy hour. Everything we ordered was delicious! Arancini, polpette, cozze & vongole, carbonara, and fettuccine al ragù. At $10 each, the portions and flavors were amazing! We loved the limoncello martini! Not quite like the one we had on the Amalfi Coast last year, but a fun twist. Came here for restaurant week. We had a reservation and we got seated right away. Parking isn't the best but there's a paid lot nearby. For appetizers, we had the arancini and bruschetta. The arancini was so good and flavorful while the bruschetta tasted fresh. For our entrees, we had the pollo saltimbocca and the brasato. The brasato was super tender with bold flavors while the pollo saltimbocca had milder more herby flavor. Both were delicious! For our desserts we tried both the tiramisu and cannoli. The cannoli was not sweet at all if you're into that and the tiramisu was really good! I also had the limoncello martini and that tasted good! It didn't taste like alcohol at all it's dangerous lol. Andy And Samuel are the nicest people! My Husband and I celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary here at Limoncello and we couldn't have picked a better place to dine and reminisce! Andrew was very accommodating with our dinner choices. I couldn't find anything on the menu with truffle oil and my husband couldn't find anything with bolognese sauce, but the chefs were happy to put truffle oil on my gnocchi and use bolognese sauce on my Husband's ravioli! We found Limoncello on Yelp after seeing its glowing reviews, and after our first visit this past Friday evening, those reviews could not have been more accurate -- this place is a true gem in downtown La Mesa. We arrived at 6:15 for our reservation on a Friday night. Downtown La Mesa had a charming farmer's market wrapping up along the street, which added such a lovely atmosphere to the evening. We found free street parking easily, and from the moment we walked up, the experience was warm and welcoming. The hostess greeted us outside with genuine kindness, checked us in, and seated us with ease. Then came Francesca -- our server, and honestly the heart of our entire evening. Originally from Sicily, Francesca brought an authenticity and warmth to the table that is simply rare. She was attentive, knowledgeable, generous with her recommendations, and had this wonderful energy that made our whole table feel at ease and cared for. She is the kind of server you remember, and the kind you come back for. The interior is absolutely beautiful -- the colors, the design, the layout -- everything is thoughtfully done and so inviting. For food, we shared the artichoke and Brussels sprouts appetizers (both delicious), and my friend enjoyed a refreshing limoncello spritz cocktail. For our entrées, I had the chicken with mushrooms, asparagus, and mashed potatoes -- perfectly prepared -- and my mom and friend had pasta dishes that Francesca personally recommended, which they loved. We finished with the chocolate lava cake, which was indulgent and wonderful. Next time, I am absolutely trying the house-made tiramisu. We are always looking for a good Italian restaurant, Limoncello, it was pretty good, but not entirely authentic. I say not authentic because they have a number of salmon dishes, Salmon is not a traditional Italian fish. We did enjoy the Arancini as an appetizer. We split the heirloom tomato salad, and it was unusual that the tomatoes had been sautéed.. The bread was good. I had the tutto mare with squid ink pasta. It was good, but a number of the shellfish had not opened.... My husband had the gnocchi with Burrata dish, which was also pretty good. He had the limoncello martini which was playful with a lemon popsicle included. Very pretty inside, but very loud it's difficult to carry on a conversation with your date/ table mates. Limoncello has one of the best ambience in a la mesa small, but elegant dining setting. We enjoyed our evening with a larger party, but unfortunately it was not perfect. While the food was good there were multiple times that we had to repeat what we needed from our waiter. Half our party received their plates 20 minutes before the rest so by the time they ate their food was cold. Just a little bit more of attention would have made it better as the price point is higher than a casual restaurant. The saving grace was the desserts were very good. This is my go to spot! I come here with girlfriends and my partner pretty frequently. When we walk in, we're immediately greeted like good friends! Mateo is one of the owners and you can tell he cares so much about customers having a good time and feeling like family.
