Scallops & Shrimp Scampi

This Italian spot totally blew me away. From the moment we walked in, the service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. You can tell the staff cares about your experience, which made the evening even better. The food was incredible. Every dish was packed with flavor. From the appetizers, we had the Bruschetta caprese to the pasta, scampi and scallops, everything tasted fresh and authentic. But the real star of the night....The watermelon sangria. It was absolutely to die for--refreshing, perfectly balanced, and dangerously easy to sip. I would honestly come back just for that alone. If you're looking for a cozy place with amazing Italian food and standout drinks, this is it. Already planning my next visit!

Italian food was on mom's mind. She recalled seeing an Italian restaurant somewhere in la Mesa in a small strip mall when we went out for sushi last weekend. Thank goodness she remembered it and I was able to navigate to it. This adorable little Italian restaurant has a true Italian neighborhood feel to it. As soon as you walk in, you feel the energy of the room and the warmth of the staff. Our server was misty. It was her adorable Spirit that made us feel welcomed immediately. She was even kind enough to have the music turned down just a bit so my parents and I could hear each other as we conversed. As we eagerly awaited our meal, we were served warm, homemade bread with a tomato dipping sauce. Delicious. It was difficult to choose, which homemade meal we each wanted! Mom, is very picky about her Italian food. She had eggplant Parmesan with a side of spaghetti and house salad. It was a huge hit making this her top choice in restaurants for Italian food. Dad had veal Parmesan and enjoyed his meal. Which translates to it was very good. His primary complaint was there was so much he had to take some home for the next day. I had the butternut ravioli and minestrone soup. Really enjoyed the soup as it was very obvious it was homemade. Tasty. As for the ravioli, for me, it was a bit too smothered in sauce, hiding the true flavor of the butternut in the ravioli making it a bit hard to give it a true review. The bread that accompanied it was delicious. Overall, it was a wonderful experience capped by the service from Misty. We love the neighborhood feel and that everything was homemade. So we are adding it to our list!

Ate here with my wife and daughter on Saturday night. The place as a very Italian ambiance and is nicely decorated. Space is a little tight but they weren't as busy as I expected for a Saturday (we were there around 6pm and by the time we left the place was starting to fill up pretty good). Food was very good, although on the expensive side. My daughter had the Mac 'n Cheese with lobster and shrimp added and her entree alone was $28. My wife had a ravioli dish that was around $22 and I had chicken pasta alfredo that was about the same. All told our total (without alcohol) was over $100. It was extremely good so we'll definitely be back.

I chose this little spot called Little Roma because they have gluten free pasta! I was pleasantly surprised by the cozy ambiance and the attentive service. It was in a convenient location as well. I chose the linguine Frute de Mare with gf pasta and hubby had the seafood trio. I got a side of marinara just for fun and also some sautéed vegetables. Your entree comes with soup or salad, so we both got salads with the house made Italian dressing, we highly recommend ! It's made very simply with red wine vinegar and was sooooo tasty. They were doing quite the take out business on a Sunday night and a few other parties were there as well. The prices were great as well as the wine selection so I'm hoping we can come back some day!

Edit: The owner called me after this review and refunded my full order…read more My pregnant wife has been craving a cold cut sandwich, and mortadella is one of the safer options during pregnancy, so I went on my lunch break to pick up a sandwich and a few other things for us to split -- $44 with tip. A few bites into my half, I noticed mold on the side of my sandwich. By that point, she had already eaten about half of hers. I called immediately. After several holds and back-and-forth, I was told they couldn't refund a single item, and that the owner said I could drive back to pick up cash. I explained I was at work and moving to Temecula in two days. I wasn't rude, I was patient through every hold. I've worked in food service. If this ever happened where I worked, we would have refunded the entire order and done whatever it took to make it simple for the customer. The owner offered to drive the cash to my house, which I declined, I didn't want a stranger at my door, and honestly, it wasn't about the money. My pregnant wife ate moldy food. Not once did anyone ask if she was okay or acknowledge that this was a health concern. I never received a refund. I just expected basic accountability, apparently that was too much to ask.

When you see the entire store front packed with City Workers enjoying their meals...IT'S A MUST TO STOP AND TRY THEIR FOOD! That speaks volume in itself! I just love "MOM AND POP" locations! I believe this shop is a mother and son ran operation and they are an amazing duo dishing out amazing subs for reasonable prices! Watch out other sandwich chains out there cause Grove Grinder IS WHERE IT'S AT!!!! They have been in business since 1972...NUFF SAID! I ordered the Ann Special with everything on it. They do not skimp on meat and the proportion of bread to meat to veggie ratio is spot on! A full size sandwich is enough to feed two people easily or one very hungry person. I did not try any of their side items or large selection of root beer drink options to choose from but, I will be back many more times to try all they offer! Thank you Grove Grinder for amazing eats and allowing me to snap all my photos of your small shop for my review! If in Lemon Grove, show some love to Grove Grinder and grab you one of their amazing affordable, delicious subs...YOUR WELCOME IN ADVANCE!

It's in a big plaza so parking is never really an issue. It's a chain banh mi spot, but one thing I will say is they stay open later than most local banh mi places, so if you're coming home late and craving one, this is probably where you're going. The left side is a drink cooler with various drinks and grab and go desserts. There are menus on multiple screens, ads everywhere, and it's just very busy on the eyes. Then on the right side you have the drink station and seating. If I'm being honest, I would not sit inside unless I had to. There is a shared patio outside in the plaza though and if the weather is nice, I would 100% take my food out there instead. Most of the tables inside were kind of dirty with crumbs and the trash was full, so it just made the space feel a little unkept. I waited in line and the cashier was very sweet. I ordered a strawberry tea and asked if I could adjust the sweetness, but since the sweetness comes from the syrup it would also change the flavor, so I just kept it as is. I also got the #11 special combination banh mi and asked for extra cilantro because if you know, you know. They take your order, you sit, and they call it out. I waited maybe 10 minutes, drink came out first, sandwich right after. The strawberry tea surprised me. I really thought it was going to be super sweet but it was more like a 6 out of 10 on sugar. Once the ice melted a bit it got even better. It tasted fresh, fruity, not artificial, and there were actual strawberry pieces in there. I really liked it and would get it again. Now the sandwich. It was solid. Not mind blowing, not the best I've had, but it did exactly what I wanted it to do. The bread was fresh with a nice crunch but not too hard. There was a good amount of mayo and pate, the meats were flavorful, and everything just worked. The pickled carrots and daikon could've had more crunch, they were a little soft, but the flavor was there and helped balance everything out. They do add soy sauce and you can definitely taste it. I'm not the biggest fan of that so I'd probably ask for no soy sauce next time, but that's just me. Also when I ask for extra cilantro... I mean EXTRA, because I felt like what I got was just a normal amount. Overall, really solid. Good sandwich, really good tea, and a spot I can see myself coming back to especially since they're open later than most places. It might not be the best banh mi in the area, but it gets the job done when you need it.

Of course, the meats are tougher to replicate, but this is the absolute BEST vegan bacon I have ever had. The sausage is great too. I recommend getting one of those added to your bagel sandwich.
