Came here a little after lunchtime for a late lunch date. There was only one guy working the whole store, but regardless he was very kind and helpful with navigating the menu, and got food out pretty quick for being a one man army. I ordered the Al Capone on a torta, and my boyfriend got the chicken club on wheat. Both sandwiches were pretty good, the torta was very soft and fluffy, maybe a little too much bread for me, but still very good. The chicken on the club was flavorful. Both the Mac salad and potato salad are basic, but solid, you get a little 2 oz container with your sandwich. I'll definitely be back to try something else on the menu in the future. My only gripe is that the parking is very limited, likely since it's located within the local apartment complex. We had to park down the road and walk over to get to the shop. read more

A local online food influencer sent me here and boy were they right! I ordered the "Screwy Louis" with pastrami, pepperoni, cream cheese and pesto and it was amazing! The best part was it came out to $13.95 (with tax) in the year of 2025 AND it comes with a side of macaroni or potato salad. The cherry on top was the staff was super nice and helpful with taking my phone order. I sat inside to eat it and the chef popped out to ask how the food was; they really care. This was my first visit to the Knockout Deli near SDSU but it will definitely not be my last! I got the Boss Burger with fries and it was amazingly delicious! They had a wide variety of free refill drinks that were very good as well. The owner was the only person working when we were there around 6:00 on a Wednesday night. He was attentive, outgoing, accommodating and friendly. He made us feel like family. The restaurant and the bathroom was clean and neat. I liked the Al Capone era pictures on the walls. And the "Cheers" vibe with the set up and decor was nice as well. All in all I loved the experience eating there and will definitely be back and will tell others to check them out. read more

We went here on a Friday night. Got a sub to share. I personally thought it was a 3 star place but went with a 4 star because she never gives 4 stars and thought the sandwich was great. I think the owner who is also one the sandwich makers overhyped it a bit much. He was also upselling a lot of things and as we were trying to decide, he kept interrupting us. And we actually bought less because we couldnt complete a thought. This place been open for a few months and the few times we have came by on holidays it has been closed. It's attached / super close to an apartment building. I think that may be their target audience. Hospital is right next door too. It's sorta easy to miss. The owner said it's best to eat it right away and he was right. It's super juicy. If you can't eat it within 10 minutes the bread will get super soggy. We ordered the Al Capone which is Shish kabob over hot pastrami, melted pepper jack cheese, banana peppers, Dijon mustard and 1000 island dressing. We did it NY Style and made it a combo meal which means it comes with a drink and chips. The combination was good. I think each topping complemented the meat very well. The portion for the price was above average. Wasn't a fan of the bread. The meal comes with a side of Mac or potato salad. But really it comes in basically a ketchup container. It's basically just three bites. It also tasted like it was bought from a store and not homemade. I'm from NY and although we think we do everything better, this didn't really remind me of home. OTOH, I went by today (a Tuesday) and though their own website states they open at 1000 and this Yelp website states it opens at 0700, the doors were locked and the lights were off...at 1000. The food was great I had gotten a Bronx Pizza. I didn't have to wait too long but while I was the inside was mob vibes with brick type walls, he was the only one working as well. He was an incredible service, I appreciate the the owner. I believe thats who helped me and got me to try some of his chili (beans) he made, which was also very delicious. Really great sandwiches, we tried a hot and a cold.. both were balanced and flavorful. We split and still couldn't finish a whole 1/2 of the hot one the John Gotti.. the cold was called the beef gourmet. There are options to increase the meat if you want and lots of drinks to add as well. It was not much to add a drink and chips but we knew our sandwiches were going to fill us up. Burgers, wings and pizza too! The dining area is large and clean with a nice patio too. A really great shop with many many options to keep you coming back. At a ground level suite of the Iconic at Alvarado Student Housing Complex is where you will find this newly opened New York-style deli. I believe the owner (Louay) also operates a Knockout Deli location in Kearny Mesa. He used to run a deli in the PB neighborhood so Louay has ample experience with this type of business. Most of the curbside parking out front was painted with a red line which meant it was not easy to find nearby spaces. Your best bet is to park in the garage of the complex and then walk out front. Hot and cold sandwiches, wraps, salads, and breakfast items were the main categories. Eventually, some bar food staples like chicken wings will be added as another panel on the menu boards. The Signature Knockouts featured six different one-pound sandwiches named after mafia men like John Gotti and Al Capone. Each included mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, and red onions. The bread choices were a 9″ torta or a 12″ white/wheat roll. I chose the Fat Tony which was heaped with one pound of roast beef, pastrami, turkey, ham, salami, and melted provolone cheese. The ingredients were neatly assembled on a white roll that was cut in half. A dill pickle spear and some hot peppers were served on the side. The meat quality was solid. I was hungry enough to finish the entire sandwich in one sitting. Louay came by and congratulated me on the feat. The operating hours were extensive... from 7 am to 9 pm on Monday through Thursday and from 10 am to 10 pm on Friday through Sunday. They have plenty of dining room seats and also the capability to cater. The prices were pretty reasonable, especially for the amount of meat provided in a Signature Knockout sandwich. read more

One of the best sandwiches I've had in San Diego!! I ordered the club ( turkey, bacon, avocado) although I did ask for ham instead but they forgot and added turkey. Even though I'm not a huge turkey person the sandwich was still amazing. All of the ingredients tasted fresh and like great quality. My husband ordered the Italian (little Italy) soooo good!! The only thing I would suggest to the company is a bigger side of potato salad when you have the combo. It was the smallest side ever and it was soooo good!! I enjoyed a very good breakfast sandwich from this deli called "The Club." The sandwich came with two eggs, bacon, ham, provolone cheese and cheddar cheese on a toasted brioche bun for $8.95. The breakfast sandwich was very tasty. Not only just because it came with ham and bacon, but because they seasoned the eggs very well. They came with some kind of herb inside them which I liked very much. They were cooked well too. The ham was tasty and some was the bacon. I liked that they toasted the bun nicely. Many places forget that step. The breakfast sandwich came with cheddar cheese but they forgot to put the provolone cheese. Provolone cheese would of been nice in this mix. They served the breakfast sandwich with a couple of hot peppers. Service was friendly and they offer a lot of good space inside and outside. They offer Wi-Fi for patrons. Im here at KNOCKOUT DELI & KITCHEN with my Wife. We tried 3 SANDWICHES: " BBQ CHICKEN, SCREWEY LOUIE, and AL CAPONE. " The SANDWICHES here were fresh and delicious . Lots of space inside but parking is kind of tough to find. The owner said they are working on something about it. About their Menu, it's not all Yet posted, because they just opened about 2weeks ago. They said more is coming on their menu like pizza etc . My wife and I like their food so definitely a stop for now on for good sandwiches. Louay the one who made our Sandwiches turns out to be the Owner too. Very Friendly and he didn't leave our Table until he saw us take a bite of the Sandwiches, he was curious about what his customers thought of his food. Great new hidden gem in the college area! I stopped in for lunch last week while in the area for work. Parking was a bit tricky due to construction and limited options but it was worth the effort.
