I was driving through Reno with my son and our dog in the car, and it was a hot day. Suddenly three lights on the dash came on. I panicked and called many shops only to find no availability to at least check the engine codes. I was afraid to make the rest of our 4 hour drive through the mountains to our home. My heat lamp came on and steam came out of my car's engine and instead of going to my yoga class, I knew I had to have my car fixed. He was great to drop me off at my nearby home which was awesome. Later, I received a call that I had a radiator leak and that to go finish the job it would be kind of expensive. But- I totally trust Richard, I know he's not going to pad the bill or sell me a service that I don't need. He even picked me up when my car was finished and showed me the bad radiator. Worst automotive experience of my life. If I had money left over, I'd seek advice from a lawyer to see if this was just excruciatingly poor service or if personal rights and laws were broken. DON'T GO HERE. Beyond the typical lies he tells about car repair turn around time, he installed the wrong AXLE in my car. To his credit they towed the car back to his shop, but then sent me home with a disgusting, cigarette stricken work truck that after a little further inspection, had expired tags and a serious oil leak. He got me an valid rental car after his time quote expired. But then, finally after receiving a phone call that my car had been test driven this time and ready for pickup, an entire month later than what he initially said...I came to pick my car up, but it was no where to been seen. A shop employee took 30 minutes to get back and returned my car to me on empty. The car had 1/2 a tank of gas when i dropped it off. Zero stars! We call him Disaster-tech Automotive now. read more

Lookup Richard Lee Acosta (the owner) on google. You'll see multiple public lawsuits come up, rightfully so. He will cheat you out of your money and your time. He sold me a lemon car knowingly and spent months of my time saying he would fix the issues (I believe he never actually fixed anything). I bought a car from him for $3400, one month later it broke down. I took it to a second mechanic (independent automotive) and they quoted me at $4200 just to safely drive it. He NEVER picks up the phone and will dodge your calls if he knows he's taking too long with your car. The only way I ever communicated with him successfully was walking into his shop unannounced. He yelled profanities at my grandfather when he came in with me to try to get a refund for the lemon car Richard sold to me. AVOID Mastertech. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had!! I dropped off my car on a monday to get fixed, by Richard the owner and mechanic of the shop, he told me he wouldnt be able to get to my car for a few days which was fine so i left it. Thursday I still hadnt heard anything so I called the shop asking, he told me he hadnt checked and would call me back in an hour...the weekend goes by and I have yet to hear anything from him so I go down to the shop just to check in and see whats going on only to find my car has been hit on the drivers side!! When i asked what had happen and why I wasnt called no one could answer me!!! Richard only told me that it had happened sometime the week before and that he had planned to just fix it without telling me!! I find this to be absolutely dispicable! When I told him i would rather him give me his insurance information and just have it fixed by a body shop he became angry and told me no. He refused to give me any information so I was forced to call Reno Police Department and file a report, which has lead to me having to call my insurance company and attorney. I not only did not get the work done that my engine needed but now I have a damaged car!! This has been a complete nightmare! read more

I took my 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse in to change out my sparks plugs and that was it. I didn't need them to check out anything else. Yeah, they manage that job but they broke the crankshaft position sensor pig tale. After I took it from the shop it was working okay. Then it's had problems starting up on me so I took it back to the shop and told them it was having problems. They said they would fix it and they did. It was working okay for the time being. But I took it to a friend that was a mechanic and he said they Jerry rig the crankshaft position sensor pig tale. Now I have a problem of my car not starting properly and when it does start it shuts off on me on the road while I am driving. This shop has made my car worst because of the half ass job they did in fixing my car. When my car went into there shop it was %100. But they really made my car worst. After looking into this problem the whole total of getting it fixed was $2000. Oh and I took it to another shop that I trusted. Because they tried to hide this from me. I took it to them 3 times before I decided to give up and go to another mechanic. Please don't take you car into them. They were nice guys to me but they did not fix the problem they caused to my car. I am disappointed that these people would treat other people like this especially a military veteran. I just don't get it and disappointed in their service. The damage did not stop there. I am missing a bolt in the same area where the timing belt cover is and also the cover is cracked. That was never there before. I didn't think to look at it at the time because I thought I could trust them. Well it would seem you cant trust these people. I don't like giving out bad review but if you fail miserably you will get a bad review. I hope this helps you from making the same mistake. read more

My daughter and I were getting ready to drive 300 miles to Monterey, California when we started hearing a knocking sound coming from the front of the car. Thinking we might have picked up a rock in the undercarriage or front grill (we had no clue!) we almost got on I80 and just let it go. Thank goodness we called Mastertech, we were told to bring in the car and they would look at it while we waited. Boy were we surprised when the technician found the axle was about to fall apart! The service that was done in Las Vegas apparently forgot to tighten the bolts! We could have been in serious jeopardy and I thank the employees at Mastertech not only for figuring out the problem and fixing it, they also checked and filled all four tires and made sure the car was safe for travel. I'm so pleased with the service and grateful they were able to see us right away. Amazing to find honest and helpful auto mechanics! read more

I would be very careful before using Mastertech Automotive. He will tell you one thing, regarding price, and then tell you another, all without doing any work. My car sat and got a good suntan and that was it, over a 3 day period. Nothing done, only hood put up. Went on one day, told to come back next day, came back next day, told they were so far behind could I come back next day, did that, walked Reno for almost 4 hours to find that car had not even been worked on, only good lifted and asked to come back Friday. Went to car dealer and had car fixed in 2 hours. read more

Richard (dick) is terrible! Avoid Mastertech Auto. On one job, Richard charged me for repairs he didn't do. On another job he cut corners, which destroyed the parts I payed for, and damaged my car further since it shouldn't have been driven in that condition. I ended up waiting months to get my car repaired, even though he would have me come in (seven times) and waste a day waiting around, promising he would complete the job correctly, then he would work on other cars, doing virtually nothing with my car. Ultimately, he never finished the job, even though I payed dearly and wasted huge amounts of my time. I've heard him treating other people in a similar fashion. read more

He told me he would use it as a parts running car. I didn't get a bill of sale from Richard which was grave mistake. He didn't change title to his name and illegally sold the car to a third party. Well this person abandoned the car and it was towed by City Towing. I didn't know until a month later when City towing contacted me me a 4,000 dollar bill. I called Richard and he gave me his word he would take care of this problem in fact he still held the title to the car. He delivered the title to City Towing but they wouldn't accept my plea that I no longer owned the car. Richard Costa once again told me he would take care of the problem with City Towing by offering them business as a payment. Richard didn't follow through and will no longer answer my calls. Took my car in to see what was wrong: water pump, head gasket or a combination of the two. I told them I didn't want it replaced if the head gasket was out cuz it would cost more than the value of the car. So they call me back saying it's a sensor but that wouldn't explain the leak. So essentially they didn't pressure test the system. Really reassuring. Then I asked them where the leak was coming from. They said they would check cuz they didn't know there was one. Great at their jobs you can tell. They end up replacing the water pump and saying it's good to go. I literally drove one exit down the freeway and my car overheats again. I call and bring it back. I see them spray water on the radiator and that's it to tell me it's blown head gasket. Seriously, fuck you! Horrible business ethics. All I wanted was to know before I spent unnecessary money. I'll never recommend or say good things about this place but you can bet your last dollar people will know what I think about them!! read more

I want to give this place negative stars- one is too many. So I said I was waiting for the head gasket they replaced to explode and it did. I almost got stranded on a mountain pass at 11pm because of their terrible work. When I took the car in to a Subaru mechanic they declared the car dead and not worth fixing because Mastertech had screwed it up so bad that they ruined the entire engine block. The actually took a grinder to the engine and ground it down to make the head gasket fit, which the other mechanic said made it impossible for them to repair it properly. Between that and all the other things they did wrong my car (which I only had for a little over a year and ended up doing $5000 of repairs to) is now headed to the scrap heap. Thanks Mastertech for being so unbelievably terrible at fixing cars. If you want a half assed band-aid instead of a proper fix, by all means go to these guys. If you want your car done properly go somewhere else- these guys will destroy your vehicle. read more

richard is a terrible mechanic. he made me pay for parts he destroyed by trying to cut corners. later, he had me return to his shop 7 times for work that never happened. in the end, he just chose to not get the car fixed and i had to find someone else to do something that could have been prevented, but turned into a super costly repair. what a tremendous waste of time and money. read more
