Five stars, no question. We've used Master Handymen in the past. The work has always been great and Gino, the owner, is honest and fair. When a pipe broke in our basement on a Saturday evening he was the first person we called. Two hours later our pipes were completely fixed with a new shutoff to prevent future freezing, all for a reasonable price considering the circumstances. I contacted Gino through his website after receiving recommendations from others in the building where my condo is located. I intended to have the condo repainted and some minor repairs completed so that I could put the condo up for sale. His field supervisor Radu met me at the appointed time with no difficulty in communications and we went over the work that I needed done. The possible levels of work needed were fully explained to me and I explained my limitations for the project. Two days later I received a detailed estimate, set a meeting with Gino to sign the contract. A work schedule was agreed to and work commenced on schedule. The estimated 18-day time frame ended up with work completed in 12 days because Gino put extra men on the job. He did not charge extra for that. Everything I requested was completed with no hint of overages, no hidden charges or other surprises. I was not onsite as I live an hour away, but building staff told me how courteous and polite his workers were and that they did a clean job. The smooth handling of the process by Gino and his team have allowed me to put the condo up for sale weeks earlier than I had expected. read more

Although I did not have the actual work done, I felt I should at least mention that the estimate I received for painting a wrought iron fence, parkway fence, and gate, and staining a small wooden staircase (six steps) was so far out the ballpark that I was shocked. It struck me that well over a thousand dollars for the work to be done was just excessive on its face. My reaction was borne out: I contacted a painter being used by a nearby townhouse association to do similar exterior work and the estimate was fully HALF of what Master Handymen thought they could charge. I fear they may set prices based on the neighborhood. Just my opinion, but be forewarned and do shop around. read more

I've used Master Handymen for many years. Most of the time it was for smaller projects, like electrical, and fixing things around the house. I recently used them to remodel my bathroom, and repair/replace a bunch of stuff in anticipation of selling my house. The repairs and remodel were extensive enough to take a few days to complete. Gino sent over a written quote and contract, detailing all the work to be done. He worked with my schedule to find the dates. The workers arrived on time. They put down plastic everywhere to contain the dust and dirt, even on the stairs. The bathroom remodel involved moving and replacing plumbing, putting up drywall, and installing a very large vanity and mirror. They finished off a room in my basement with drywall, and replaced a few large sections in another room of my basement because of damage and removal due to foundation crack repairs. They installed all new baseboards, and primed all the new drywall. They also upgraded many of my light fixtures and outlets to bring them up to code, repaired a kitchen cabinet, and replaced my range hood and kitchen faucet. The guys were all friendly, and they worked hard, only taking a break for lunch. When they left, the house was cleaner than it was when they got there. The price was very reasonable, and well worth it. I would recommend Master Handymen for any project, large or small! read more

I hired these guys to replace a couple of tiles in my bathroom and re-grout the shower. They broke one of the tiles and it took me quite awhile to find a replacement tile. They didn't offer to pay for the tile they broke or reduce the price of the work at all (which wasn't cheap!). I don't think the grout job was all that great either. Kind of crooked. I don't think I would hire them again. read more

Called Gino as I needed a quote for some repainting I was looking to have completed to the front of my house. He answered my call right away and asked that I email him all of the details. He responded quickly that his field manager, Radu would be out to look at the house to provide a quote. Radu arrived at the time established and said that he would get the quote to me within the next week as this was Friday, cutting it to close to the weekend. That was June 3. Hired Master Handymen for several jobs. All three jobs ended up very very badly done. New windows put in. Had to call Handymen and get them back three times to fix the windows which were leaking air through the channels very very badly. Very very poor job. The back kitchen screen door which a year later is crap! The quality of the door MasterHandymen selected is lousy, the bottom weather strip has torn off the door and the door just wasn't hung properly. Plus Gino took took too long to repond to fix the problems and would not even contact me for a kitchen sinki job. Have hired another contractor which superb l results. I would NOT recommend MasterHandy Men to anyone at all. Very very poor work and poor response times. read more

I'm the treasurer for a 7 unit building in chicago.....After 10 years, it turns out the ubiquitous black iron fence in front of the building starts to look like hell...I solicited some bids to paint the fence and to paint the front door along with repairing the front door trim. Gino came in with a competitive bid (wasn't the lowest of the bunch, but in the ball park), and based on yelp reviews and his follow through during estimating process gave him the work. I was very impressed with the professionalism of the crew and their attention to detail. Those fences are a bear to paint..but the crew did a thorough job prepping the surface and had good attention to detail. I had noticed a couple of spots I was going to ask them to touch up before they left, but on my final walk through realized they found them and touched it up before I even asked. The repair to the front door trim looked like a perfect match to the existing design....they did a good job cleaning up afterwards too....the crew was friendly and flexible with requests...all in all, give them a shot at your upcoming project...anyone on a condo board knows It's not often that you will hear compliments (everyone seems to want to complain about something), and I already had a couple of owners tell me the work looked great....as this was our major project for the year, that's a feel good. Just moved in and had a bathtub that wouldn't drain, even after a full bottle of drano. I called Gene at 10am and he managed to fit me in even though his day was fully booked. I had a great experience with this company. My upstairs neighbor's toilet leaked into our bathroom ceiling. I called for an estimate; Gino came out the next morning, gave a very reasonably priced verbal estimate, followed up with a written proposal a couple of days later and we set a date for the repair. It was difficult to find a highly rated business willing and able to repair such a variety of issues, so I was happy and a bit skeptical when Master Handymen said they could help. Turned out I had nothing to worry about, though! The team fixed all of my problems - from putting up drywall in an awkward, tiny area above the furnace, to installing a vanity and replacing its plumbing, to name just two of the projects they took on - and did so well UNDER BUDGET, and in the time frame promised. We used Gino based on all the positive feedback on Yelp and the fact that all of the negative reviews seemed to stem from lack of responsiveness and/or just plain crazy people who don't understand how a hammer works. We called Gino late on a Sunday night to ask him about refinishing the floors in the house we just bought. It's a 115 year old home, so they're well worn and there was a significant amount of separation between boards and where old vents used to be. There were also multiple tones of yellowish / orangish wood and some pretty obvious lines where walls were moved or added at one point or another. Gino met with us that next morning (Monday) before we both had to go to work, sent us the quote that same day and had his guys out here working Wednesday morning bright and early. They took the time to put up plastic wrap in the doorway to the kitchen, to remove closet doors and to tie up the curtains before getting going with the circular sander. He called us Wednesday evening and let us know we could go over to the house to check out a few samples they laid down to make sure they got the color right. We were immediately impressed with the workmanship. Every crack, crevice and hole was filled and sanded bare and everything was finally starting to look uniform. The color we wanted was a great match for one of the samples they put down, so we called Gino and let him know. The guys came out and stained everything on Thursday, then sealed everything Friday with enough time to dry for our movers on Saturday. The floors look incredible, they go perfectly with the house and we couldn't be happier. So to recap, Gino was very responsive, he dealt with us in a very professional manner, he worked within our extremely tight schedule and the craftsmanship was truly top tier. Highly recommend Master Handymen! Gino is great and gets back to you fairly quickly regarding the job. He is personable, has reasonable quotes, and the crew he sends out are very nice and does a fantastic job. We have so far used them for two jobs. The first one was to fix an extremely squeaky floor. We seriously called 4 or 5 other carpenters/contractors to give us a quote on this job and no one would touch it. I think it was either too small or too complicated. When I talked to Gino, he was like no problem....and gave us a quote within 1.5 weeks and we started it fairly quickly thereafter. Miguel and his assistant were very helpful and did the job within 3 hours. The crew cleaned up after themselves without any debris to be found (unheard of with our past projects). Our 2nd job was completed today. We had laminate flooring installed in our kitchen, and the guys did a fabulous job. The finished the entire project in under 6 hours. Again, I can't stress how nice it is not to worry about clean up afterwards. The floor looks beautiful, and I didn't have to lift a finger to move any of the appliances. Overall, very pleased with the work that Master Handymen provides. Also, a huge plus in my book is that they actually show up on time! Never late once...which makes me a happy camper since I have an incredibly busy schedule and a 2 year old that needs her naps. I definitely plan on using them in the future for more of our several home projects that we would like to accomplish. read more
