When I go for sushi/Asian fusion I always end up at Masago's. I have gone with friends, family and big groups of acquaintances. Their specialty rolls are outstanding! I also love their vegetable fried rice (which is very light and tasty). I have never once gotten sick after eating here nor do I personally know anyone who has gotten sick. Sushi is super cheap here!!! They give around 20-30% off everything on the bill. My gf and I went- one app, two salads, four rolls = $21... I don't think you can really beat that. I used to order the food at least once a week. The food used to be great but gradually dipped in quality since they reopened. Last time I ordered the sushi , the avocado was brown and rotten. Then today the chicken teriyaki tasted sour. After calling the manager the response was "no one else complained about the chicken." I guess you can't be the first one to complain there. When my girlfriend called she was treated rude from the start then after I got on the phone, the manager was very rude, giving an attitude and actually mimicking me during the conversation. While explaining the issue with the food the manager talked over us saying "then just bring it back, bring it back , bring it back" repeatedly without listening. After asking why he was being rude the response was "I am not being rude get that out of your head." I am really disappointed in the events that took place today, extremely unprofessional. Since opening they offer 50pc off sushi bar food and 30pc off kitchen food. Not sure what is eligible in menu for this. Food is fusion Asian. It's ok. Decor is nice and clean. We come here often. Once we arrived at 930pm (they close 1030pm on Friday evenings) and the soups were served lukewarm. The soft shell crab salad was ok with citrus flavored mayo but the claws were missing from the soft shell crab so really you get just a bit of crab and lots of lettuce. By 1015pm they started cleaning the place and asked us twice if we were finished (and we were not) so we gave up and asked them to pack up our food (house mei fun) and left. So don't go too late in the evening if you want a relaxing meal. read more

I've been going to Masago twice month since they opened. The inside is modestly decorated so I feel like I can be casual when I go in. It's nice inside. Don't get me wrong. It's clean and nicely decorated. The chairs are comfortable. The food is fresh and well prepared. The turn around time from the order is quick. The staff are attentive. I used to only order sushi and different rolls but now I've been ordering hot food too. Last night I had shrimp and chicken over fried noodles and veggies. Delish. I love the black rice they serve. It's $1 extra but once you try it you will only want black rice from now on. Really nice relaxed place. Equally good for take-out too. And they deliver. Thanks Masago. Masago is good ...it's the go to sushi spot in my mind. I most always eat sushi and the few cooked dishes I've had were tasty. They have a great variety of signature rolls and the price is great. As far as the bad reviews, My wife once had a chicken entrée for lunch and didn't like it. This turned her off for a while but I convinced her to go tonight and loved the food. I have been going to this place for a while now and it seems to be the only sushi place anyone will go to around Oceanside honestly. I came here to celebrate my Mother's birthday over the weekend. The place was very pleasant, and the menu was extensive. The thing that was lacking was music. The waiters and waitresses were very nice and dressed appropriately, but unfortunately they do not have their "own" tables. With that being said, we had 4 different waiters and waitresses coming to us within 10 minutes of our seating asking to place our order!! And each time, we kindly tell them we were not ready. We ordered the Masgo roll along with 2 other special rolls, and a sashimi dinner from the sushi bar. We also ordered a Tom Yum soup and a shrimp Pad Thai from the kitchen. Tom Yum soup first arrived at our table. The broth was so sweet and they put pineapples in the broth! I've never had a Tom Yum soup with pineapples in them... and the bowl was quite large with only one shrimp in it. Then we received the Pad Thai dish. The color was so off and they did not have the aroma from cooking in the wok. Upon tasting it, it was terrible! The noodles were soooo soggy! Again, they had put incredients in the Pad Thai that usually do not belong there, like red onions. After the disaster, we were hoping that the sushi was going to be better. When the sahimi dinner arrived, that's when we realized why they were offering 50% off sushi bar items, because the sahimi pieces were much smaller than usual. Plus, the waitress had forgotten to bring us the miso soup and the salad that came with the dinner. Their signature "Masago Roll" was not at all how they should have presented it, it just looked like any other special rolls I've had. Frankly their special rolls are smaller than the other places. Again, that's probably why they are offering 50%. My dad has a special interest in different type of rice. Upon looking and tasting the sushi rolls, he quickly realized they DO NOT use sushi rice, instead they use regular jasmine rice for their sushi! After a bad dining experience, the nightmare had repeated itself. The staff came to us 4 different occasions again to take our food away when we had told them repeatedly that we were still eating. When the bill came, we glanced through the bill, and found that they had discounted us 30% for everything, instead of the 50% on the sushi bar items!! The manager came and fixed the problem, but I strongly adviced you to check your bill before leaving!!!! Overall, the food did not match the nicely decorated atmosphere. You get what you pay for, and this is the classic scenerio. They jack up the price and minimize the ingredients for the discount. It was not worth it at all. I recommend if you are in that area, go try The Fin Asian Fusion in East Rockaway. I saw their article recently from the Harold newspaper and tried them out. It was located at a rather hidden place, but the food was outstandingly delicious! They also give out 20% discount cards to customers when dine there. read more

Those of you who understand good sushi and authentic Chinese will love this place. It is as authentic as it gets and more importantly its very fresh. The Chilean Sea bass was one of the best I've had. Every other roll we had was delicious. My kids love Masago and I really like their prices. It's a great place for a casual family outing. As to the quality of food, I'm not a fan, although it's not terrible, just nothing special. This place is extremely busy, I wouldn't recommend going there Fri or Sat night. If you are ordering a take out during their busy time, make sure to call about 1 hour ahead; also, it's best to place your order in person because they messed up my phone orders several times. I created a Yelp just to review this place so that tells you something. I'm not a picky person when it comes to food, I like to keep it simple apart from the fact that I have a foody for a girlfriend. I went here this weekend with my mom and my girlfriend because my mother went here with co-worker(s) and said she loved the food. That's not to say that one of my mom's coworkers usually pays for her meals so she doesn't feel the headache of the prices. First thing, pretty expensive. I'm from Queens and I've learned that some of the best food spots are not this overpriced and you'll get a much better sushi/Japanese experience in NYC. Got the Pineapple Fried Rice, I was disappointed and like I said, for me to complain that means it must really be bad. My girlfriend got a shrimp dish which was really good and my mom got Chow Fun. I was enjoying her chow fun over my meal so we passed the plate back and forth. During one bite of her meal, she crunched "sandy" saying she doesn't know what it is but saying it was grainy then proceeded to spit it out. I told her it was probably nothing and we continued to eat the meal. Then while I was eating from her plate, I felt something hard and spit it right out, turned out to be A SMALL SHARD OF PLASTIC (Glass like composition/material). Obviously I was upset and we called out the waitress and told her and all she did was take the glass and said 'sorry.' We were more upset that the waitress just walked away lol, so we called another waiter who spoke a bit and asked to speak to someone about it. Waitress came, said they won't charge for that one dish and walked away. We were still upset, also considering my mother has had a few surgeries within the last two years and the thought of swalling glasslike material is unsettling. They then sent over the matre dee (not sure if I'm spelling that right) and she said they wont charge for the dish and they were going to get us a dessert on the house so my gf/mom picked a Chocolate Lava cake. They brought it out COLD which my girlfriend was pissed about (like I said, she's a foody) and THE BEST PART (I absolutely died laughing at this, I left the restaurant laughing) was they were so eager to get us out the door, they put a cherry tomato with the dessert instead of a regular cherry. Final word, won't be going back here and I advise anyone else to double think before going here. Drive the extra miles, go to NYC for quality and authentic Asian cuisine. Take this from me for a few reasons, I grew up in NYC, my girlfriend's mom owns an Indonesian restaurant in Queens so I've been exposed to different foods in the area and also as I said my girlfriend is a huge foody. read more

When we first started ordering masago they were fantastic and the price was right. Ever since then they've gotten worse and worse. We will never eat there again - service is awful. They bring the wrong dish to the table and then proceed to tell you IT IS what you ordered. When we had it delivered, there would always be something wrong with the order, the worst being BAD sushi - as soon as we opened the the container the awful fishy smell ensued warning us the fish was not fresh. This place - when it first opened - was awesome! The quality of the sushi was superb, the cooked food was excellent, and the service was exceptional. What happened over the past few years? Not sure. But it's clear that the management lost their gratitude of being welcome in our town (they barely look at you or say thank you when leaving.). The sushi is now "diced fish" in the rolls, and the sashimi is thinly sliced. Also, for a sashimi platter .... when asking for a replacement of the mackerel, the quality of "the replacement fish" is just that = questionable. It's difficult to get extra napkins, and staff are less than accommodating. Starred differently, they have a bit of an attitude. There are some SUPERB sushi places in RVC that, if you compare apples to oranges, it equals out to much better value and quality and quantity of food than Masago (for only a few dollars more.). This is a good place for teenagers who are new, out in the town. Not someone looking for good food. Simply stated, tonight was my last time as a patron of Masago. I enjoy the food at Masago every time I go. And when I dine in, the service is usually great. But the last two times that I ate in Masago, there was a woman server who seemed new to me. She was so rude the first time I went and had her. She was climbing over my friend instead of walking around the table and she had a bad attitude. We have frequented this restaurant many times before and have always had a great experience. The experience we encountered tonight is grounds for us never returning to Masago. We sat down, and it wasn't relatively busy. We waited for a waiter to come over and ask about drinks or any questions regarding the menu as they always do. We waited, and waited, and waited! The tables to our left and right came in after us and their orders were already taken! The waitress finally came to our table after looking at our tables three times previously. She said, "Are you ready to order?" We explained the situation and she fought with us. Claiming it was not her fault and that if you want to order go ahead and if not you can leave. She was extremely rude. We ordered, (which was the wrong thing to do), my appetizer came and my friends appetizer did not. I went there last night and we were a party of 9. We called ahead, when we arrived we had to wait 30 minutes which was not bad. We ordered in a timely fashion, however the appetizers were all brought out separate times, and some were just forgotten. All the main dishes took an 1 1/2 hours to get out! Not only did it take that long but one of the dishes took 1 hour and 45min! And the food was terrible, most of the dishes were not properly prepared. Food is always excellent- sushi fresh and delicious. The reason for giving 3 stars is something that happens to me EVERY time I go in. You feel like you are constantly being pushed out. They take things off your table when your not finished. They constantly are coming over and asking if you are done. I understand the need for attentiveness but when you are overdoing it- it 100% ruins the entire dining experience when you feel rushed. this place is pretty big, nice decor and pretty clean , thats where the good ends, the food is mediocre at best the sushi rolls are very small so you need more than 2 rolls to fill you up ( there goes the 25 -50 % discount) the chinese food they sell there again not the best and very over priced been here a few times each time i gave it a few months to see if they improve , sorry they have not and I refuse to give them another chance, also the service is not great at all ! very rude waiters read more
