3-29-26. Went with a bunch of people for Sunday brunch. Ordered the French dip sandwich. Pretty mediocre. Roast beef was good, the roll tasted like it was store bought the day before and the au jus was a little on the bland side. French onion soup was just okay. I tasted a few bites of an eggs Benedict that someone else in my party ordered and that was very average as well. Home fries were a little dry and the hollandaise sauce was missing that "pop" I was looking for. The steak tidbits (which was sliced London broil) was alright but again, the hero bread it was served on tasted like it came out of a plastic bag from the grocery store and was possibly a day old (or more). The ambience of the restaurant was pretty cool and it had a rustic vibe to it. We had 2 waitresses and they were both very pleasant and attentive with drink refills and making sure we were taken care of. Overall, I left there somewhat underwhelmed. My 3 star rating is for the entire dining experience and if it wasn't for the really good service we received, I would rate them a little lower. read more

The staff were very friendly and service was quite fast. We were seated right away without a reservation, which was a pleasant surprise. The place itself felt clean, cozy, and welcoming. The food, however, was a bit of a mixed experience. The French onion soup was tasty on its own, but I was disappointed that it was topped with melted mozzarella instead of Gruyère cheese. Without the traditional Gruyère, it really feels more like onion soup than a classic French onion soup. The bread they bring to the table at the beginning was actually very good. Unfortunately, the fried calamari and the cauliflower crust pizza both tasted like frozen food you might buy at a supermarket. They reminded me of something from Trader Joe's rather than freshly made dishes. On the positive side, the Prosecco was excellent -- cold, bubbly, and exactly how it should be. Would I come back? Probably not. If the food tastes like frozen dishes, I could easily have that at home. That said, the total bill was around $60, so the price was reasonable and I can't be too upset about it. Was it worth trying? Yes. Would I return? Probably not -- but I'm glad I gave it a shot. read more

Attended a group dinner here and definitely did my background check beforehand to make sure I ordered something I'd truly enjoy. The French dip seemed to be the most popular item, but with a larger group, I wasn't confident it would arrive at its peak, so I decided to go a different route. I ended up ordering the blackened scallops with vegetables, and wow this dish was excellent. The Cajun seasoning was bold and flavorful, while the scallops themselves were buttery, delicate, and expertly cooked. My only small critique is that the foot (that small side muscle on sea scallops) wasn't removed. It didn't detract much from the dish, but it's always a nice touch when that's done for you. My partner ordered a salad topped with Cajun salmon, and it was phenomenal. The true standout was the salmon, cooked to a perfect medium: juicy, flavorful, and served in a generous portion. Major kudos to the kitchen for executing both dishes so well. Several others in our group ordered the French dip, and seeing those plates only confirmed that I was happy I trusted my instincts. Maybe I'll try it during a quieter lunch service someday, but it's going to be hard to pass up the scallops and salmon. read more

I was looking for a place for lunch and this restaurant was recommended to me. No issue parking which always helps. The place was bigger than I expected and had a comfortable atmosphere. Our server was excellent and I apologize I didn't write down her name. She recommended the seafood paella along with the scallops. Both were delicious. This is just another wonderful restaurant that Long Island has to offer. My wife and I had the opportunity to come here for a Kiwanis function. It was an easy drive from Mineola and we were able to secure close street parking. This is a really nice-comfortable restaurant and we were greeted with a big hello and smiles as soon as we entered. We had a private party in the back room, and we were escorted there right away. It was nice that we knew one of the servers and ran into him as we went to the back room The room was set up perfectly and we were escorted directly to our table. The night was going to be a buffet and I was wondering how long until we made our way to the food. To my surprise they had plenty of people serving food and it went very quickly for the whole room. They had a fabulous selection of salad, beef, chicken francaise and baked salmon. (Would you expect anything else?) All entrees were plentiful and tasty-fresh.) Throughout the entire dinner the staff was very attentive to the tables and any special needs. This neighborhood pub has been around for quite some time, feeding locals. The chef is very talented and the staff is very friendly. It's a comfortable restaurant and we always feel welcome when we dine. This particular night we started with Clams Casino and they were fresh and prepared perfectly. On a previous visit we started with the Thai Calamari and that was equally enjoyable. Jumping right into the main course I had Chicken Valdostano which was prepared as well as any Italian restaurant I'd been to and ordered the same. We also ordered one of the daily specials featuring Grilled Sea Scallops and that just might become one of my favorites. I'm not going to attempt to review something I didn't experience but I will tell you that one of the diners at a table adjacent to us ordered and, obviously, enjoyed an outstanding looking Seafood Fra Diavlo. Really delicious brunch and good service. Not mind blowing but a nice place in town. Complimentary soda bread and coffee cake (I think it was it wasn't like the coffee cake I'm used to), soda bread was good, but I personally don't think this bread is for everyone. The coffee cake had a harder crust and wasn't sweet at all not sure if this was something different. I got the croissant sandwich with onion rings. The steak inside the sandwich was cooked to my liking and was shaved nice and thin so it wasn't chewy at all. I was impressed by this especially for brunch. The onion rings were cooked perfectly and were great. But the quality was off because another person in my party had onion rings and they were completely misshaped and didn't even look like onion rings. Apparently the burrito was good. Thought the prices were a bit expensive especially because all of the menu items were the same price. Also I don't recall seeing a drink menu that wasn't alcoholic. French Dip Sandwich, if you're eating in. Friendly warm place to have lunch or dinner with your significant other or family. Nice friendly staff. Avoid special occasions like Mother's Day and things like that it doesn't really go well, at least for me. Our food was awful, one of us ordered a cup of soup $6.00, another ordered a bowl of soup that was a inch or 2 bigger than the cup and the price was $12.00 . The stakes was as tough as could be. ALLIAS Smith and Jones is by far our favorite restaurant to eat at since we moved to Oceanside in 2008. The menu is fabulous from the best onion soup in town to all the appetizers to the entrees and always order the chocolate bag for dessert when it's available. The portions are always great and you never go home hungry. I would say you get great value for the money you pay. The staff is very friendly and always on top of there game. We have had many parties at ALLIAS and Sue and Gene are always very accommodating to whatever you need. They always treat us like we are family. read more

Alias used to be our go-to place for special occasion meals. We even hosted our daughters baby shower there. Cha-ching! Our family had been fans for years. Its overpriced, it always was. Last night we went there for dinner for our 25th anniversary. We were literally the only people in the restaurant area. When we were nearly done, another couple came in. Boy has the food really deteriorated. No more veggie appetizers. Why not? Veggies are cheap. The pasta was mushy, vegetables soggy and the original entree I ordered had to be sent back. I came here for a baby shower held in one of their small private rooms in the back of the restaurant. The restaurant has an old-timey, rustic feel to it with its dark wood interior and heavy, clunky dishware. We were given a pre-selected party menu which included a soup, salad, and entree. The French onion soup was missing the melted cheese on top, so it was just onion broth with a floating piece of soggy bread, and a side of shredded Parmesan for the table. 2 stars. The garden salad was a sad plate of thrown-together lettuce, red onions, and tomatoes with some dressing. 1 star. I didn't have a lot of faith for the entree after the soup and salad, but it was actually very delicious. I had the skirt steak, cooked to a medium-doneness with good flavors. My friend had the penne alla vodka, which she also really liked. 4 stars. The service was very good. There were multiple waiters working the party, all of whom were mostly courteous, if just a little dismissive. 4 stars. read more

A seriously reliable old favorite. It's not a flashy hotspot, but I always like my food... Which is frequently why we go out to eat, right? I love when you sit down and they bring crudités with Thousand Island dressing as a dip, and a basket of yummy garlic bread. Fave sandwich: the Bourbon St Grill. Blackened chicken breast on a delicious buttered roll with frisee lettuce. They let you have half onion rings/half French fries if you can't decide between the two. Hooray! Fave entree: steak tidbits in brown sauce with fusilli pasta and asparagus. Love the combination of flavors. Can't offer much Intel on desserts, as the hubs and I always split a tartufo (it's a very good one) so haven't sampled anything else!!! Update 10/14/18: one of the niceties of eating here has always been the small plate of crudite and thousand island dressing that is brought to the table as soon as you're seated. We were told by our server last night that this practice has been discontinued. We were disappointed, as were the diners at neighboring tables. Liked the food and staff here until recently. Family went there and was attacked by a drunk couple from this bar for asking them not to smoke over our car. Owner didn't do anything other than to ask my family to leave because the couple was his friends.
