IF YOU LIKE QUARTER SIZED SUSHI PIECES AND PEOPLE STEALING YOUR MONEY, MASAGO IS FOR YOU. I will absolutely never go back to this place. I was drawn in by the 1/2 price sushi. Well that's exactly what it is. Although I cannot complain about the taste, the pieces given to you are so small. I'm talking like the size of a quarter in diameter. However, the service, not the food, is the main reason I will never step foot in this place again. Let me start with the fact that the bus boy serving water continuously filled up my half-full Sprite with water, and then gave an attitude when I asked for a new drink. The BEST part comes when I received the check. At the bottom of the check they give you the total price you are supposed to pay, with the tip included. The bill for the 2 of us came out to be 40.73 with drinks and 4 sushi rolls, not bad. Here comes the good part...the price listed with the tip was 66.06. A $26 tip, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? Now I'm a generous tipper, always giving at least 20-25%. But $26? Really. Okay so we decided since that is just suggested we would still leave a generous tip, leaving $52, a 30% tip. Upon paying, the server comes back and tells me I did not leave enough, saying I only left $32 to cover the bill. Now I triple counted the money and had my friend count the money as well, so I know that there was $52. Convenient that when he comes back and shows me the "$32" I left, a $20 bill is missing. So basically these people wanted the rest of their tip so they took out a $20 at the register and then came back and told me I didn't leave enough for the food. THIEVES. I have loved this place for years- yes, I've had better miso but not better Thai casserole, fresher white tuna sashimi, yummier Kani salad and the tom yam soup!! The fried oyster is too fried but almost everything else is superb!!! You definitely can't beat the price and they will never harass you about closing times or rush you out. First of all let me say, that the atmosphere at Masago is very nice. For the first couple times I went the sushi tasted good especially for the price. Their kitchen entrees are very tasty. However, last time I went for dinner, i did not have a good experience at all. It is common for a sushi recipes to have sugar and vinegar in them, but they put way too much sugar and vinegar into the sushi. It was Revolting! I had this sugary, disgusting after-taste in my mouth the entire night. The restaurant was busy and i would assume their normal chef did not make my sushi. It is safe to say though that Masago has very inconsistent dishes from each time you go there. I do not plan on eating there again after the sushi I ate. read more

I want to this restaurant for my birthday party and when I got there it took two hours for the server to ask would you like drinks and an additional hour to get food and there's like not even a person in there and I'm not saying an hour probably less than Hour but was about an hour and I was really mad so then after I had the food it was the most horrible tasting thing ever afterwords I got food poisoning from it and when I went to the bathroom to go the bathroom there was cockroaches in the bathroom it was horrible read more

If I could give ten stars, I would. Best. Sushi. Around. Had the tuna martini and the black angel roll. This was seriously the best roll I've ever had. Better than nobu, just as good as blue ribbon. The black angel had more ingredients than I can remember that melded in the perfect way, but the highlights that stand out was the oh-so-fresh and perfectly light shrimp tempura (nothing worse than heavy old tempura) and the topping of black caviar. Another highlight was the copious amounts of fresh ginger they give. I love that bc I never seem to have enough. And I always finish it afterward if I don't use it on my roll. Masago Oceanside, has great vibes. The inside is beautiful. I have been here 50+ times because it is a local great asain resturant. Always am greeted as soon as I walk in the door and seated right away. Winnie at the desk is the best! She is so friendly and bubbly with a great smile .. love seeing her as I pick up my take out. The sushi is amazing! It was just great for a local small sushi place. The sushi doesnt taste extremely fresh always like other places I have tried but it still is really really good. The only down side is that recently as I was leaving, my waitress had opened the check book right in front of me and said to be "too small of a tip" .. IM SORRY WHAT?!? I paid the bill and left a tip. I leave mg tip according to the service and food. Do NOT tell me the amount is too little EVER. She was basically asking me for money. I was extremely furious in the moment and went into my wallet and threw her $5 more .. nobody should ever do that. Unprofessional and disrespectful. Other than that, sushi and kitchen food is amazing. I reccomend the Spring Jaime roll and the Tuna Amazing roll. I always get those rolls with a shrimp fried rice which is exquisite like always. This place is ok, the normal sushi rolls are taste good and are exactly what you are looking for, when it comes to there specialty rolls they sound amazing but when it comes to the taste they are lacking in flavor, its like they either don't use good quality ingredients for it or they put to many complex flavors in them and they just blend together to make a bland roll. the booth seats hurt your back immensely i when there once with my family and i was hungary but couldn't even eat bc the seats gave my acute and sever pain. the prices are really good though, great for someone on a budget. read more

Good lord, where to begin. I never really liked Masago after going yo the restaurant three times. The food just seemed to lack a certain wow factor. I noticed they have an online order option on their website so for convenience sake I ordered dinner. Boy was that a mistake. So I've been spoiled by ordering from Center Thai Bistro in East Rockaway. They have an awesome crispy fried fish which I noticed on Masago's menu as crisp red snapper. Well it was certainly fried but not in any way crispy. It was doughy and soggy with oil. I wound up just peeling off the dough and eating the fish plain. I also got the duck dumplings which had almost no duck in them and the dumplings had a chewy undercooked texture that was off putting to say the least. Blach!!! The hot and sour soup was neither hot nor sour. Terrible meal, bad food. Avoid this place like the plague. Go to Wild Ginger or if you want Chinese pick any take out place and I'm sure you'll do better than Masago. read more

This used to be one of my favorite places until today when I ordered a California roll and the whole thing was falling apart! As my husband was picking up all the pieces trying to put it together to eat it there was a chunk of plastic!!! Thank my lucky stars that wasn't the piece my daughter grabbed. Sorry but plastic chunks in my sushi is not what I had in mind for dinner tonight probably won't be returning here God knows what else is in their food !! read more

I wanted to tell all the people thinking of ordering take out that I waited almost 2 hours for my delievery and when I called at the one hour mark I was told the food was out. First lie. then I called at the one and a half mark only to be lied to again. now the big insult was that they will give me a 15 percent discount for my cold food. It's cheap for a reason. I JUST got the pad thai with chicken and it smelled rancid and it was tasteless. I wouldnt go back here again.

horrible, nasty mean waiters. i was welcomed by a nasty waitress yelling at me when i ordered lunch. i didnt have my watch on, and thought it was 4 20, no biggie. she walked away from me in utter disgust complaining and snapping that it was 4 30 and lunch is over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! then she proceeded to the back to look at a clock and informed me that it was 4 40, then she walked away shaking her head. i was going to leave but i thought, the hell with her, ill try another waiter or waitress as i was hungry and wasnt going to be bullied. another one came over but then, i told her i couldnt have anything spicey, and she gave me ducksauce with hot peppers in it. i wanted to give back the spring rolls which were mostly breading/horrible and she wouldnt take it back. i had 2 bites of it . she had given me 4 rolls. i told the manager as they all listened and she took the sp roll off, but never apologized. i would nnnnnnnever eat there again ever. thats a place that has no use for people. i only gave this one star because it wouldnt take the review otherwise. read more
