    Galbi teppanyaki combo.
    Michael W.

"Heyyy, you were probably the product of your parents' New Year's Day ..." Let's not finish that because I, a Virgo, am traumatized. Thanks, J-Wow. I have a brother that has a birthday three days after mine. As we've gotten older, joint-birthdays have become a thing. I don't mind but sometimes we have a difference in opinions on where we want to go to celebrate for dinner. He wants sushi and I want KBBQ. Masa Sushi was our compromise. I liked my meal. It was a Galbi Teppanyaki Combo. It came with fried rice, short ribs (galbi), and tuna rolls. It hit the spot. There used to be a Masa Sushi about half a mile away from my house so it was nice to pop into Masa again. Good eats.

We really like this place. It definitely has a Japanese bar vibe. There are lanterns and lots of Japanese parasols hanging from the ceiling. It definitely is a warmer, more colorful, slightly darker lit place than you'd think in the middle of the day in a strip mall restaurant. Its cozy! There are some likely Japanese chotchkes (like a little daruma) throughout. The coolest thing, though, is what had to be thousands of photos of people who have come here to dine and celebrate. The walls are covered! The menu had quite a few good choices--bentos, boats, platters, and lots more. We chose: *A bottle of Fuji apple sake *Bento E (spicy tuna roll, assorted nigiri, mixed tempura with gyoza, chicken teriyaki) served with miso soup and salad *Bento C (assorted sashimi, tuna roll, salmon teriyaki, mixed tempura with gyoza) served with Miss soup and salad We got a lot of delicious food, and it was a great bang for the buck! Service here is always good, too.

I have been coming to Masa for years! Masa is perfect for a quick lunch out and to avoid the downtown Gilbert crowds. Service can be hit or miss, it seems as though they typically just have one server and one person making sushi. This was the case for our most recent visit so it took a bit for our food to come out and I did have to ask for the check. Masa is a cozy little spot and the sushi is always consistent, love that they provide complimentary miso soup & salad. Some of our favorites include; assorted nigiri, killer shrimp roll, popcorn lobster roll, masa volcano and the crunch roll.

My first time dining here this past weekend. We typically order through delivery. The experience was quite good. It's a mom and pop located in Gilbert, would say the food was very delicious. The price was right as well. We ordered mostly sashimi, hand roll each and toro nigiri. For me, likely the better raw sushi I have had in the closet vicinity. The place is filled with Polaroids of patrons over the years which makes the decor fun. Our server was sweet and was very attentive. Overall I think I would definitely come back!

I always drive by this place and have kept telling myself I will stop by. Well the day finally came and we made a little visit on Friday evening. We were greeted as we walked in but waited a few minutes to be seated. There was one big group, a couple smaller groups, and there were only two waitresses running around. We sat down, ordered some waters, and looked over the menu. We ordered: Two orders of Shrimp Tempura One order of stuffed jalapeños One midnight roll One Mexican roll One crunch roll Miso soup and salad The miso soup and salad came out right away and they were both good. The miso soup was not hot enough though and would've tasted better if it had been! The shrimp tempura and stuffed jalapeños were the bombbbbbbb. The tempura was crispy and hot! The stuffed jalapenos were a creamy goodness and they had a very nice kick to them. Our crunch roll and Mexican roll came out not too long after and we enjoyed them both. The Mexican roll had so much flavor and was very filling. The crunch roll was another fave and we wanted moreeee. The midnight roll was baked and it was finally dropped off when we were done with the other two. The midnight roll was unfortunately a hard pass for us as it was very mushy and left us with a gross aftertaste. We gave it two tries and nope, its still a pass so we left it there... Service was very slow, our waters were never refilled, and it took forever to get our check. The servers were friendly but they definitely seemed stressed. Didn't see a "hiring" sign up front but they definitely need the extra help. We were thanked and said "bye" to from the cooks and servers as we walked out the door which was nice. We will be back on a weeknight next so they wont be as busy!

We have been here several times. They are efficient and the food is good. Last night we called around 7:50 to see if they had room for a party of 3 and they told us they would by the time we got there. When we walked in they already had the table set for us which was awesome. I ordered hot green tea, seaweed salad and the vegetarian combo. The combo was delicious. Unfortunately the seaweed salad was frozen in spots, most likely because they were closing in an hour and didn't have any out. I asked for a new one and they brought it but it was still frozen in some spots. They took it off the bill and took it back. Not a big deal at all, I'm sure it was just because of the time. I usually get it and it's delicious.

Appetizer: Tempura mixed-huge! And very tasty

Stopped by after going to the bike shop a few doors down. It was packed ar 5:15 PM. I ordered the yellow tail sashimi. Perfect temperature and delicious, with a delightful texture. Would absolutely order the gyoza again--finely minced, tender pork. The mixed tempura had onion, sweet potato, zucchini, and shrimp. It was twice the size I expected and super yummy. Although the veggies were served in the traditional tempura way, the shrimp was fried in a different kind of batter, more like a panko. It was ok..and I prefer the traditional tempura style like they cooked the veggies. I will def be back!

My family and I used to come here very often ages ago! Life happens and we just haven't came back but we had dinner here the other day and it did not disappoint! We ordered the Seaweed Salad, Galbi Teppanyaki Bento with Spicy Tuna, Fuji Roll without cream cheese and Energy Roll. They also still serve complimentary miso soup and side salad! Everything was amazing. The salmon on the Fuji Roll was fresh and thick. The Energy Roll actually has eel on it! A lot of places would have rolls with eel and give very minimal but not here. The Spicy Tuna didn't taste fishy and had a sesame sweet flavor, thank goodness! Service was great and food came out quick considering there was only 1 server and multiple tables. Would definitely come again!

We got there about 20 minutes after opening and the doors were still locked. We saw someone there we waited. The sushi was good but service was very slow. It took another 20 minutes to come take our order. It was only us and 1 other table so there was no reason for the poor service

We have been meaning to try this place for a while now and finally did tonight. It was a great start but it definitely fizzled out by the end. The food was yummy, but the service was very spotty. I loved the atmosphere and their decorations were great. Our waitress was good at the beginning but we struggled with getting her attention to order more drinks, and then had to flag her down for dessert and the check. They also have a lot of advertisements for happy hour, but it is nothing I would call happy hour and is just standard menu pricing. We had their gyoza, edamame, and two sushi rolls. All were tasty but standard. We enjoyed trying it out but unfortunately will probably not be returning. Pros: *No seating wait *Nice atmosphere *Decent food *Lots of variety *Good Japanese Beer selection Cons: *Slow service *Expensive

The restaurant is fairly large, and seems like a lot of people like coming here for family/friend dinners. Like the name insists, the teppanyaki is the way to go. Teppanyaki is really more of a show/experience, so the food comes out to you in sections (versus all at once like at a traditional restaurant). The filet was so soft, and was perfectly rare, and the shrimp was so good. I think in the future I'd eat a whole plate of shrimp. I also got to try the yakiniku, and that was also pretty good but very sweet. Their Boo Yah Ka roll was also pretty yummy. It's essentially a spring roll, but with some spice and citrus to it. My boyfriend and I came to Shimogamo for Mother's Day and ordered the five-course meal. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing compared to our previous visit. The biggest issue was the service. Our waitress, an older woman, came across as dismissive and unnecessarily rude throughout the evening. When we were seated, she offered complimentary rosé. I accepted a glass, but my boyfriend does not drink alcohol, so he politely asked if he could order a mocktail instead. Before he could even finish, she abruptly responded, "No, you can wait to place an order for that," as if he was trying to substitute the complimentary drink, which he was not. He was simply trying to order a beverage. Later, when the braised beef course was served, my boyfriend politely asked if he could have a spoon or fork. The waitress loudly repeated "A SPOON?" in a mocking tone in front of nearby guests, which made the interaction uncomfortable and embarrassing. As for the food, the five-course menu was average at best and far below what we expected from Shimogamo. The salmon tartare and sushi course were both excellent and showed the quality we remembered from our first visit. However, the remaining courses fell flat. The fried branzino was dry and seemed poorly prepared, despite the promising flavors of capers and cream sauce. The braised short rib felt completely out of place on the menu and lacked refinement it was dry, heavy, and more reminiscent of a chain steakhouse meal than an upscale dining experience. The entire dinner also felt rushed, with little attention to pacing or hospitality. What makes this especially disappointing is that we dined here back in November on a double date and had an incredible experience. We spent over $600 that evening, and the service and food were exceptional. Our waitress at that time was knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. She guided us through recommendations, and every dish impressed us. That's why this visit was so surprising. Shimogamo clearly has the ability to provide an outstanding dining experience, which makes the decline in both service and execution even more concerning. I sincerely hope management takes this feedback seriously because this restaurant was once one of our favorites.

I thought maybe it was just the rolls I was trying so then I tried my friends rolls & the tuna had a very weird taste and consistency. As someone who eats spicy tuna rolls any chance I get, I have tried many sushi places and this one was one of the worst spicy tuna rolls . We finished our meals and chatted for a bit. I would say not even 40 minutes had passed since we finished eating when I started to get nauseous. I think the worst part overall was getting sick from eating here. I'd like to mention that my partner got sick from the food as well so it was not just me. Or maybe this is a bigger issue with the quality of the fish they buy.
