I wanted to try the other Masa restaurant since I was closer to this one in Gilbert and recently ordered takeout for lunch and dinner. This was definitely a good choice. We ordered Chirashi, Rainbow Roll, Energy+Eel, Tamago and Yellowtail Love Combo. Everything was amazing! They even brought our food out when I asked about curbside pickup. We'll absolutely be back for more sushi and sashimi. read more

Such fresh fish! The salmon love roll was our absolute favorite. I haven't had salmon that fresh in so long- we kept saying how fresh it is. The rolls are a decent size for the quality fish you're getting. 4 sets of rolls were the perfect amount for date night between my husband and I. We took our order to go and the rolls, specifically the rice, still tasted great when we got home. Employees were very kind when we went to pick up. Will be back! read more

Been coming to this spot for as long as I can remember. Great birthday spot with staff that remember their customers and are so kind. The caterpillar rolls and chef choice with mango are some of my favorite rolls. This place has been my sushi staple and consistently great for years. Fresh eel and fresh salmon every time. read more

We had a party of five and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their dinners. Starters were gyoza and shrimp veggie tempura. Both were good. Next my wife and youngest daughter had fried rice which they loved, my other daughter had udon. My niece and I had sushi. The sushi was excellent...rolls and maguro were fantastic. I especially enjoyed the Hawaiian roll and the Masa Maki special roll. Service was EXCELLENT! On a Saturday night, orders were taken quickly, drinks were never empty before we had refills and the level of attention was just right. To top it off, we got our photo put on the wall. Don't know where all the 5 star reviews came from, we were in the area getting our car serviced for an hour and thought to grab lunch. Yelped area reviews and Masa came up. Walked in and was seated. The service was very good. The place looked a bit worn, floors looked old menu's very worn. Photos of the dishes are hugely displayed "ALL" over. We ordered some Beers and Sake while looking over the menu. We ordered the Gyoza, the Sushi+ Spicy Tuna Roll Special (tune, shrimp, salmon, snapper, spicy tuna roll) and the Sake Bomber Sushi Sashimi Special (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, snapper) The Gyoza were very good, the sushi sashimi quality of fish very very OK. We were craving sushi and looked for one offering in-person dining. We came across Masa and it had exceptional Yelp reviews. So I met my daughter there for lunch and it was AWESOME! They offer all day happy hour and have so many combo options. We started with Gyoza and Tempura which were both served hot and fresh. We had one of the half/half combos and the Tokyo Combo. Everything was fresh and delicious. They provided excellent service as well. We'll definitely be back... PS - we were so hungry we forgot to take pics! LOL read more

Family and I came here for the first time. My partner doesn't eat sushi, so he had the chicken teriyaki (I believe) and he loved it. The sushi and their gyozas were delicious. I lovvveeee green tea so I ordered their iced green tea and green tea ice cream... I was in heaven. The service is really quick and they were friendly. We will be coming back. read more

Food was great! Immediately upon being seated, they bring you salad and miso. It was pretty busy, though I don't feel we waited too long for our food. The rolls are large and well made. One roll that stood out was the "Baked Boston," I believe. A bit of sweetness mixed with the warm cream cheese. Very tasty. We will dine again! read more

The service was good however the food almost inedible. the sushi was ok but the Teriyaki chicken tasted reheated and the rice was very dry and cold. We love Masa Sushi. Located just a mile north of downtown Gilbert this place is our go to for sushi here in Gilbert! Service: awesome, we have never come here and felt ignored or like a bother. They always say hello as soon as you walk in even if the place is packed. Sometimes they sit you or you sit yourselves but either way someone will come within a couple of minutes to take your drink order. Food: we come here for their softshell crab tempura & their dragon sushi! We tried the Boston roll this past week and I loved it. My kids love their half and half combo (California/crunch & teri chicken/california roll) *sushi is good for what you pay for. Their plates are yummy too which gives non sushi lover other options to order. Teri sauces in their meat is kids approved! Overall we love this place. We like looking at the polaroids on the wall and wonder how they decide who makes the wall it seems a little dark sometimes but the food is good and the bathrooms are well lit and clean. read more

Okay I'm a fan of this spot , if for no other reason than you can get some really awesome sushi and tempura on a Monday at 140 pm. I got a bento box, which had enough to fully serve a famished adult. It come with miso soup filled with tofu and nori . Awesome! The salad was quick and tasty . But the tempura!! So good! It came to the table piping hot, no time under a light here. Crisp and lightly battered , very lightly, and the onion ring was to die for! I could eat that alone for a whole meal. But there was shrimp and a sweet potato slice, soft and hot! Perfection. The spicy tuna had a touch of sweet somewhere so it was not my fav but it was nicely done, as were all the rest of the rolls that came with it. The service is prompt and smiling and my server actually checked in to see how I liked the selections . I've been here before and I will return . I recommend this little spot for those looking for a birthday meal or just a quick lunch of great sushi and everything in between. read more

This was very good a few months ago. It is slipping. The lettuce in the salad is wilted the last three times I have eaten here. The Miso soup is still good but was better, also not served as hot as it should be. The sushi rolls are thinner. I had to use the bathroom right after eating. Not a good sign of food storage or cleanliness. read more

This is my go to sushi restaurant. I highly recommend the popcorn lobster plate. Fried lobster, sweet sauce, over California roll. The happy hour specials give many half and half options with two rolls in one for a good price. Moderately priced, the chefs consistently put up high quality rolls, fresh fish, and well-rolled bites. The bar area is bright and clean and the overall environment is quiet. We bring to kids under 3 and they enjoy the miso soup, salad, and most off the rolls we have shared. The service is fast and we love that the servers keep a close eye on our drinks. read more

This is my favorite sushi place. It's fairly affordable, usually not too busy, and homey. The food always blows my taste buds away, despite coming here almost monthly with my wife. The menu is vast and full of options to suit both raw and cooked sushi roll fans. I'm going to include some our favorites here, along with other rolls we've tried. Keep in mind that we are allergic to milk protein, and thus haven't tried any with cream cheese or dairy. I am a wasabi fanatic (I can eat it straight for enjoyment); my wife is not. I eat all of my rolls dunked in a mixture of soy sauce and wasabi. Favorites: - [x] Spicy Tuna. None of the spicy rolls are overly spicy for most people, just enough to add flavor and a comfy heat. - [x] Tempura CA. Absolutely one of the best Tempura California's I've ever had. - [x] Spicy Ca - [x] AZ Caterpillar. A little more plain and simple, good for meals when you have several complex rolls. - [x] Tempura Spicy Tuna. I get this roll just about every time. - [x] Crunch Roll. Others: - [ ] Popcorn Lobster. It comes on a huge dish; it's a ton of food. - [ ] Avocado. A little too plain and simple. - [ ] Red Dragon Roll - [ ] Killer Shrimp. The food is amazing! Poor customer service. This is one of our favorite spots to go for sushi, the only thing is that the staff isn't very friendly or welcoming. Every time I ask for something they seem annoyed or if I'm asking for too much. They also don't check on you after bringing you your food to see if you need anything else. I thought maybe we had caught them on a bad day the first time but after six visits I've noticed that it happens EVERY single time. read more

This is my favorite non all you can eat sushi place. They have so many variety and the price is very affordable. My favorite is soft shell crab and the lunch bento boxes. I love the rolls like Boston roll and the energy roll. Definitely recommended. If you eat in the restaurant, they give you free soup and salad too! Worth it! read more

Since I moved here from San Francisco this has been my place to go for sushi. Its 20 minutes away and I'll travel it anytime for this sushi. The sushi is always very fresh tasting and the sashimi slices are meaty and delicious. Your meal always comes with a bowl of miso soup (which is very flavorful) and a iceburg lettuce salad (the dressing is amazing). I have ordered rolls and dinner boxes and am never disappointed. The Edamame and shrimp and veggie tempura are favorites that are on the happy hour special. The chirashi sushi bowl is one of my favorites for sashimi (12 pieces of fish for 15.00, very affordable!). You always get a complimentary dessert too, for lunch its half an orange and for dinner its an orange with an apple fan and caramel sauce (super numnums) Service is usually very good, sometimes the servers get a little busy as there is usually only two for the whole restaurant which can get really busy. When I move again this is going to be one of the places I'll miss the most. Even in SF I didn't have a sushi place I enjoyed this much. Definitely try it out! New discovery- they have gluten free soy sauce if you ask for it! read more

I originally gave this place a five star review earlier today as it's one of my fav places to go for sushi and good dinning. Sadly, we went for my birthday today, planned on 3pm but they close after lunch and reopen at 5pm for dinner. Rearranged plans just to eat here and receivers the worst waitress servers ever!! Hands down rude and dismissive. We arrived when they opened for dinner for a party of 7 and ordered a sushi boat, a chicken something bowl,stuffed jalapeños and some goyza for my toddler. All the salads and soups were slapped on the table. The waitresses-2- blonde and brunette took our orders. My fathers chicken something bowl never arrives and the waitresses never checked that all the orders were inputted and my father never got his food. I asked the blonde waitress for my fathers chicken bowl order to find that she never put it in, she came back and asked me if I wanted veggies. I directed her to my father whose order it was and she ran back and 15 minutes later brought some other chicken bowl order and when I dad told her that's not what he ordered, she gave me the rudest look, like I messed up the whole damn order. It was my birthday and this waitress dozed up the order, didn't check on the order once give, and didn't even bother to apologize or make up for it or anything. Seriously- I don't work for my money to spend it to be treated like shyt. Horrible service but making food. read more

Came here with my Husband and we both loved the sushi we got! Its so fresh and the balance was very good. Most places we've been to either roll too tightly and it spills out or roll too loosely and it falls apart. It was perfect here! Found this great new sushi joint less that 5 mins from our new place. We shared a Happy hour combo for two people under $20. It came with 4 pieces of nigri 2salmon, 2 tuna, with choice of rainbow rolls( spicy or not). The meal came with miso soup, salad, and a fresh fruit dessert! The sushi was really fresh, and well proportioned for the price. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Atmosphere was really cute, and inviting. Variety of the fresh raw selections ( my fave) but also some fried rolls and non-sushi options. No kids menu but my mom toddler enjoyed a four piece Cali roll. And I usually dont review bathrooms, but the ladies room was impressively clean, and smelled really good lol. Overall great experience, favorite sushi I've tried since moving to Gilbert. read more

My hamachi Kama came out first and was cooked beautifully through and again, seasoned well. The ponzu and ginger were a nice dipping sauce. The sunrise roll had great flavors and cool presentation. Our scallop and chicken yakitoris were great too. I didn't get to try it but the table next to us got agedashi tofu that looked great. Side note, every table was full--always a good sign for a restaurant when there's lots of competition. As someone from the SF Bay Area I'm pretty picky about landlocked sushi places, but this one knocked it outta the park for our spring training visit. Go Giants!! Teppanyaki is really more of a show/experience, so the food comes out to you in sections (versus all at once like at a traditional restaurant). The filet was so soft, and was perfectly rare, and the shrimp was so good. I think in the future I'd eat a whole plate of shrimp. I also got to try the yakiniku, and that was also pretty good but very sweet. Their Boo Yah Ka roll was also pretty yummy. It's essentially a spring roll, but with some spice and citrus to it. I felt that the portion was good for a large meal, but my friend who got the chef's combo definitely had enough for leftovers.

I also had the chilli cheese sushi - deep-fried jalapeño, cream cheese, cucumber, avocado. Topped with spicy mayo sriracha sauce. My boyfriend had the steak Teppanyaki and the last Vegas sushi - tempura battered roll with crab, avocado, cream cheese & sweet chili sauce. Everything was great!

I wanted something fun to drink but non-alcoholic, so the bartender stopped by to help me decide. I got the Miso Sour and it was so good! This had a nice balance of flavors. I started with the Hamachi Crudo which has grapefruit ponzu, lemon mayo, Serrano pepper, and thin cucumber slices. This was so good! Refreshing with just the right amount of spice. Next I enjoyed chopped salad and miso. The salad was very fresh and had a variety of goodies including edamame, purple cabbage, and avocado. The miso is so good!! It was delicate and yet so flavorful. I chose the Yuzu tuna roll option which has spicy tuna and avocado inside, with big eye tuna on top, garnished with micro cilantro, red onion, and yuzu. This was so good! I also thought their ginger stood out - I would bet they make this in house. I can see why this always has such great reviews!

My boyfriend and I came to Shimogamo for Mother's Day and ordered the five-course meal. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing compared to our previous visit. The biggest issue was the service. Our waitress, an older woman, came across as dismissive and unnecessarily rude throughout the evening. When we were seated, she offered complimentary rosé. I accepted a glass, but my boyfriend does not drink alcohol, so he politely asked if he could order a mocktail instead. Before he could even finish, she abruptly responded, "No, you can wait to place an order for that," as if he was trying to substitute the complimentary drink, which he was not. He was simply trying to order a beverage. Later, when the braised beef course was served, my boyfriend politely asked if he could have a spoon or fork. The waitress loudly repeated "A SPOON?" in a mocking tone in front of nearby guests, which made the interaction uncomfortable and embarrassing. As for the food, the five-course menu was average at best and far below what we expected from Shimogamo. The salmon tartare and sushi course were both excellent and showed the quality we remembered from our first visit. However, the remaining courses fell flat. The fried branzino was dry and seemed poorly prepared, despite the promising flavors of capers and cream sauce. The braised short rib felt completely out of place on the menu and lacked refinement it was dry, heavy, and more reminiscent of a chain steakhouse meal than an upscale dining experience. The entire dinner also felt rushed, with little attention to pacing or hospitality. What makes this especially disappointing is that we dined here back in November on a double date and had an incredible experience. We spent over $600 that evening, and the service and food were exceptional. Our waitress at that time was knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. She guided us through recommendations, and every dish impressed us. That's why this visit was so surprising. Shimogamo clearly has the ability to provide an outstanding dining experience, which makes the decline in both service and execution even more concerning. I sincerely hope management takes this feedback seriously because this restaurant was once one of our favorites.

We did AYCE and ordered many different sushi rolls - I naturally gravitated towards the spicy ones since I love spicy tuna, salmon, etc. Unfortunately, I early on could tell that the food was not fresh. I thought maybe it was just the rolls I was trying so then I tried my friends rolls & the tuna had a very weird taste and consistency. As someone who eats spicy tuna rolls any chance I get, I have tried many sushi places and this one was one of the worst spicy tuna rolls . We finished our meals and chatted for a bit. I would say not even 40 minutes had passed since we finished eating when I started to get nauseous. I think the worst part overall was getting sick from eating here. I was sick for about 2 days and couldn't keep food down if you know what I mean. I didn't want to ruin the birthday fun for my friends so I didn't mention how bad of an experience I had. I'd like to mention that my partner got sick from the food as well so it was not just me. I am writing this in the hopes that the Sakura staff make an effort into looking into the way their sushi staff prepare the fish/food. Or maybe this is a bigger issue with the quality of the fish they buy.

Lots of great options for sushi but ramen sounded amazing on a chilly winter day. I ordered a couple options and requested for the toppings to be separated so my picky eater could pick out what she didn't like. The food was out promptly and packaged with such care. Once I got it back to my daughter's hospital room, we were able to feast on the best meal we had all day. So my wife started to do a little research and found that Daruma had really good reviews. So we gave it a shot. I have to say that I was very impressed with my Ramen. It was galaxy's better than the first one I tried. I can't wait to try a different one next time. Aside from the wonderful food. The staff there was really nice. They greeted us right away and quickly got us seated. Our server was also very friendly and attentive. The dining area was pretty clean and inviting too!
