Las vegas roll. Mostly crab mix and breading

I guess we should have been forewarned by our experience here when we pulled into the huge parking lot with many empty businesses until we finally found where this restaurant was. Walked in before the heavy dinner rush and instead of being greeted, we were waved to a table from someone in the back. The menu has sushi, sashimi and cooked entrees. Nothing extra special from what you would expect from a sushi joint. I wanted a sashimi dish but the only one shown on the menu is listed under lunch specials. Pricing was not readily apparent. The sashimi sampler was listed on the paper ordering list but did not say which fish is included. When asking the waitress, she said tuna, salmon, whitefish, and eel?!? Sounded alarming as I have never had raw eel for any sashimi. I asked if it included albacore (which I did not want). She went to ask because she didn't know. When I was told it was part of it, I asked if I could sub out for something else. She said yes, but didn't mention any fee for doing so. I asked her for steamed rice which was an added charge too. We were a little surprised with all the added charges when the bill came. But since their manner of service is to swing by the table and then rush off, we sat for awhile before they noticed we had a question. Normally, the explanation would have sufficed but it seemed they couldn't explain why the upcharge wasn't mentioned earlier during the ordering of food. The fish and sushi here was decent. Nothing to amaze me compared to other places. Even the manager's handling of the questioned bill was unhelpful. We just paid and left. So we definitely won't be back again. I wouldn't recommend the place since there are plenty of better sushi restaurants around that do know how to provide good appreciative service to their customers and have waitstaff who knows the menu and can answer questions about it accurately.

My fave sushi place!! The staff is super nice, know their regulars, quick service, fresh delicious food big portions and great prices!! It is small and cozy but always have room for you. I have seen them fill up quickly people definitely know about this gem! The other amazing thing that I really appreciate is that they let you order happy hour menu and prices TO GO!!

Their sushi is well priced for freshness and flavor. The restaurant is on the smaller end; I can see them filling up quickly on the weekends. It seemed clean overall, nothing fancy or upscale. Overall, the food was tasty and came out rather quickly once we ordered. I probably wouldn't dine in on the weekends when I'd expect more traffic, as I'm not confident the service would be very attentive since it already wasn't for a Wednesday evening. They seem to have a happy hour menu, but the start/end times weren't listed nor did the server inform us when we asked if it was happy hour. There are some items listed in the menu that have different prices from the sushi list which is where you'd mark your order. We found when we paid that the price in the menu is what they used (didn't get a chance to ask prior to ordering because the service was spotty). We ordered: - Gyoza - Salmon sashimi - Viva Las Vegas roll - has a good kick from the spicy tuna on top - Hot night roll - also has a good kick of spice - Baked salmon roll Miso soup is complimentary.

We really enjoyed the food here, and I was happy with the large variety of vegetarian options. The prices were reasonable, and I thought the fried rice was hot & fresh. The vegetarian tempura roll was a solid vegetarian roll. It's really cute and quaint inside, and service was quick. The only complaint I had is that we felt rushed out. We paid and were chatting with friends and they cleared the table around us and kept coming back to take the check and ask if "there was anything else..." It was pretty pointed they wanted us to leave even though it wasn't crowded and there was an hour until they closed. Other than that, it would have been a 5 star.

What a local gem! this is a must have if you live in Mesa and ALSO if you don't! Worth driving out of the way for. Customer service is amazing and intentional. The food is beyond delicious and the options are endless. The spicy garlic edamame is a must. Gyoza pan fried can never disappoint here! My favorite rolls are hot night, viva Vegas and crunchy garlic roll. The miso soup also leaves me wanting more! The cozy traditional vibe is wonderful and the atmosphere is not overwhelming. Makes it feel like a home away from home. 11/10 recommend!

Sekai Sushi: A Hidden Gem That Rolls Deep in Flavor and Feels Sekai Sushi is more than a restaurant--it's our special little sushi sanctuary. Every visit is a sweet memory with my kids, made even more special by the incredible woman who may be the owner. She always remembers us, greets the kids with the warmest smile, brings them chopstick helpers like they're royalty, and treats them like VIPs. That level of kindness? Priceless. Let's talk food. My go-to starter: shrimp tempura--crispy, golden, and comes with 4 pieces (no skimping here!). I always cozy up with a bowl of miso soup, especially when I drop a spoonful of rice in it--so simple, so comforting. My picky eaters? They devour the chicken teriyaki plate, and we always order extra rice. I snag the veggies--perfectly tender and soaked in that savory-sweet teriyaki sauce. And then there's my all-time favorite: the spicy sashimi salad with extra avocado. **please note I requested the extra alvacado~ so do not order it expecting that much green greatness unless you ask!!! It's got kick, crunch, and cool--all in one bite. Warning: you gotta be on team cilantro and onion or this one's not for you! When I splurge a little more, it's 911 rolls all the way--refreshing cucumber-wrapped sushi that packs a flavorful punch. A squeeze of lemon + a hit of wasabi = chef's kiss. Want some fire? Go for the Hot Night Roll. It's got the heat, the flavor, the drama. But let's not forget the real crown jewel: the iced tea. As the self-proclaimed Ice Tea Queen, I don't say this lightly--this tea hits every time. Cold, crisp, and the perfect sip between spicy bites. Happy hour has great prices if you wanna try a variety of things! Whether you're on a date with your littles like I was, flying solo with a book, or just craving quality sushi and peace--you'll find a little magic here. Sekai Sushi, you've got my heart and my chopsticks.

Wow! Not what I expected at all after reading all the positive reviews! We came here around noon and we were the first customers so that was a bit strange I thought. That's never a good sign, right? The server told us about their lunch specials so we decided to go with the spicy tuna roll combo that came with 5 pieces of nigiri: tuna, salmon, white fish, albacore, and shrimp $10.95 and their sashimi combo: 2 pieces of tuna, salmon, and white fish sashimi with 5 pieces of nigiri for $13.95. I thought the prices were so cheap and I realized why as soon as I saw and tasted the food. The fish did not look fresh and none of the fish had any flavor. It seemed they just thawed frozen fish and why the lack of flavor. I was so disappointed as I had such high hopes for this place. This place can also use a remodel as it looks pretty dated. Service was fine, but unfortunately I don't think I'll be returning:(

The place felt kind of run down, I think they can really use a makeover. I love sushi and sashimi, so I ordered their sashimi combo, which also comes with 5 pieces of nigiri. Well, I was very disappointed with the lack of freshness and flavor. I had high hopes based on the reviews, but my experience with the food was not good. The service was fine, though. Too bad their fish is not fresh nor flavorful.

    Chicken yakisoba!
    Kira D.

I've been here a few times, but this time, I'm sorry for being THAT girl....2 stars?!?!? Rough, I know, I'm sorry!!! I'm even more sorry I ordered the chicken yakisoba. The dish tasted like someone had it in for me and wanted me to stroke out by adding copious amounts of salt and salty sauce in my yakisoba! This will go down in my history as the saltiest chicken yakisoba! If u like salty yakisobas, Sekai is ur place! I'm gonna stay away from their yakisobas. Service was ok, nothing to rave about. I've also had a few sushi dishes here, and I just can't give them support. If I'm roaming around somewhere and find myself famished, and Sekai was the closest restaurant, I'll bite the bullet and stop in and hope for the best!!

    Poke Salad
    Jon H.

I was at a Cheer Competition for my daughter and had a couple hours to kill and consulted my Yelp! Bookmark collection of places I want to try and saw this place close by. Everything was fresh and fantastic! I'm a nigiri guy...so I loaded up on Yellow Tail, Salmon, Smoked Salmon, and Tuna. The Poke Salad was great as was the Gyoza. Service was quick and professional. The restaurant was low lite and kinda quiet, but also had TV's playing College Basketball. Loved the mix. This is a great sushi option if you're ever nearby!

    Vernee D.

It's been a while since we've been here! Quality is just the same! We ordered katsu, ramen, and some sushi rolls. All pretty good and satisfied our cravings!

    Jennifer S.

Oh my, we found a hidden gem! After reading reviews, my husband and I decided to try this spot while we had some time to kill. We walked in and there were only about 4 or 5 tables taken. Perfect! We ordered a couple rolls, edamame, sashimi and nigiri. Everything was so delicious! Our waitress was attentive and friendly! By the time we left, the place started filling up. You really wouldn't think much of this "hole in the wall" place since the parking lot was empty with tons of parking. We'll definitely be coming back and telling all our friends about this place!

For months, this location has been on a radar based on seeing various Yelp friends post about this…read morelocation. I was intrigued for both their sushi selection and their cocktail menu. I figured a Sunday afternoon would be calm, so I decided to pop in for a solo lunch. What I Ordered: - Yuzu Mule: The drink was delicious and refreshing, so I ordered a second one. Definitely order if I return as well. - Hamachi Lime Roll: This roll had an odd texture to me, and ultimately, I grabbed the rest to go as it was a little off putting to me. The flavor was decent though I found myself wishing there was more crunch with tempura flakes or panko bread crumbs on top. - Crazy Roll: The winner between the two rolls in terms of flavor and preference. Though, I wish this roll had the spicy mayo the other one had. I'd definitely order again and ask for a side of spicy mayo that I could add to the roll. Love the soy paper option! As for ambiance? I thought country music was an incredibly odd choice for this establishment hence the 4 stars versus 5 star review. I'd prefer more traditional Japanese music, or heck, even some J-Rock over American country music. I'm guessing Sunday afternoon is a slower time, so it was employee choice. Overall, I'd visit again when in the area and recommend to friends/family.

Course 2: Spicy Scallop Futomaki/hokkaido scallop / benishoga / chili crisp/ takuan / wasabi mayo. This roll tastes great, scallop tastes fresh and I love the way it was seasoned. However the rice around it was too much that I couldn't taste the scallop fully. I wouldn't get this dish again because of the rice around it was too much. Course 3: Ocean Trout Mi-Cuit/ okinawa potato croquette / citrus cream/fried capers / crispy salmon skin. I love the cream and the capers in this dish. The fish is seared. Although not much flavor in the fish itself but because of the sauce, it complements the dish well. Course 4: Dessert - Yuzu Lychee Sorbet/vanilla whisky hojicha granita. Oh my gosh, this is my favorite dish! It was so good and refreshing! The yuzu sorbet was tart and creamy. And the hojicha ice underneath was delicious! I would come back to the restaurant just for this dish and the first dish!

While we were waiting they sat another 4 with us. We all expected dinner & a "show", but none of us expected the show we got. One of the staff started screaming at another staff member. We had no idea what the female staff member was saying since her words were not in English. She was so loud & screaming in the bar area so the entire restaurant could hear her. A couple of staff members tried to claim her dow. This went on for several minutes. It was crazy. All us customers were silent & just looking at the girl screaming & yelling. After all of this, they sat couple with us. Finally the chef came to the table. By this time it was 20 til 6:00. Hubby got the filet with fried rice. I got the shrimp with fried rice. The food was good. However, hubby's steak was over cooked. Thankfully, hubby told the chef he wanted to change the steak from medium to medium rare, or it would have been even more over cooked. Things We Ordered I Tried: - Yuzu Mule: loved this drink at the Gilbert location, so I ordered again. I really liked the subtle heat and acidity of the citrus ponzu. - Crispy Truffle Crab: This was decent, but overall my least favorite of our starters & small bites. - Spicy Tuna Tartare: This was delicious and enjoyed the nori chips to serve the spicy tuna on. - Kagoshima Filet ($120): I'm sad to report... this was FANTASTIC. I wanted to hate it at the price point of $120, but it truly melts in your mouth. My first experience trying Wagyu and it was a A5 rating, which is the highest. Started with a bougie one it seems! - Tamago Roll: I do enjoy a tamago roll, and this was pretty good. - Crazy Roll: I enjoyed this at the Gilbert location, though I do still standby this could be elevated with a spicy mayo or topping. - Surf 'N Turf Roll: This was my favorite roll of the night! A5 Wagyu and shrimp tempura?! Heck yeah! Absolutely delicious, though I'm not a huge fan of mustard. Still a delicious roll and likely what I'd get if I returned. - Yuzu Mushrooms: One of the specials listed, and decent flavor. Though, I think I'd stick to rolls if returning. - Matcha Tiramisu: I was told this was a must order, but I'm truly baffled at this desert. This is more like a no bake cheesecake and not a tiramisu. The red bean paste was an odd texture at the bottom and very hard to get your spoon all the way down to get all the elements of the dessert. - Mango Kakigori: Very light and refreshing! A hit with the team, and we had three to share. Shout out to Matthew for an amazing experience!
