Such a cute cafe! The food is super good - I get a breakfast sandwich whenever I'm in the area. Everything is made to order and the wait is very quick! The owners are very nice :) It's a bit tucked away so it is hard to spot from the street but if you are in the area, definitely give this place a try!

Chicken bahn mi! Get it spicy!

Probably one of the best tofu Bahn mi (Vietnamese sandwich) I've ever had. Very cute corner store vibe.

So far the best Vietnamese iced coffee in the area I will try the Banh Mi next time.

Prologue Coffee & Tea is a small café operating inside the Walnut Creek Library in downtown (Walnut…read moreCreek has two libraries). Although the location is not prominent, pictures of their beautifully crafted drinks and delicious bánh mì sandwiches have been spreading across different social media platforms. So much so that they have been featured in reporting by several local media outlets. Out of curiosity, I decided to check this spot out with my brother and a couple friends on 08/29/2025. It wasn't busy when we walked in at around noon. A quick glance revealed a space that's tiny but well organized. We were greeted by Thuy, the friendly proprietor of the establishment. Since this was our first visit, it took us a while to figure out what we wanted. In the end, we each got a bánh mì sandwich and a beverage. Pricing was reasonable IMHO (see menu pic). I had the cold cut bánh mì and an iced coffee. I gave half of my sandwich to my brother, and he gave me half of his grilled chicken bánh mì in return. Both sandwiches were delicious! The baguette was excellent. It was crispy on the outside and soft and spongy on the inside. Thuy told me later on that she gets them from Duc Huong Sandwiches, a famed Vietnamese sandwich chain in San Jose. The homemade pâté, cold cuts, and grilled chicken were all delicious, and the produce was very fresh. The iced coffee was very good as well. We chatted with Thuy extensively before and after our meal. She told us she was a banker prior to opening this café. From our conversation, I could tell she takes pride in her work. We were all very impressed by her demeanor and business acumen. Should you find yourself in downtown Walnut Creek, do yourself a favor and give this place a try. You will not be disappointed. 5 stars. BONUS MATERIAL: - You can either park at the library lot, Civic Park, or the Broadway city garage a block away. - Contactless payment. - They have limited indoor and outdoor seating.

The hygiene alone should be enough to make anyone turn around and walk out. The employee working the front repeatedly coughed into his hands, rubbed his nose, sneezed, then immediately went back to handling customers' utensils, napkins, and food-related items without washing or sanitizing his hands. It happened over and over again. It was honestly disgusting to watch. Basic food safety should never be optional. Then came the bill. Three items. One tiny crepe, one madeleine, and one quiche. Nearly $50. I actually thought there had been a mistake. The crepe was embarrassingly small, and the chicken inside was some of the worst I've had. It was dry, stringy, chewy, and tasted incredibly cheap. There was absolutely nothing fresh or high quality about it. The portions were tiny, the quality was poor, and the prices were completely disconnected from reality. My husband was born and raised in France, and we've spent plenty of time eating at cafés and bakeries there. This isn't even remotely comparable. It's an overpriced imitation that relies on the idea of being French instead of delivering food that's actually worth eating. If you're going to charge premium prices, then deliver premium quality, proper food safety, and an experience that justifies it. This place failed on every one of those fronts. We won't be back, and I genuinely can't understand why this place has the reputation it does.
