My experience at this restaurant has usually been great, but not today. Father's day sucked. The wait staff was great but management was not. Our food arrived way late. So glad to have come as it's a block walking distance from St Andrew. Apparently Food Network Magazine once voted Marston's as the Best Breakfast in California. If that's what you're expecting, you're going to be thoroughly disappointed. None of the food really stood out, but the service was good. Don't be beguiled by the French Toast food porn. Covered and fried with corn flakes, it might be Fantastic (as the menu so proclaims), it is definitely not "four slices good," unless of course, you're looking for a heart attack on the side of your breakfast. If you do want to try it, I suggest you order the off-the-menu secret side order of french toast, which comes with 1 slice for $2.50. The Eggs Benedict was decent, but nothing spectacular, though it did come with a side of bland breakfast potatoes. Mimosas are also offered off-the-menu for $7.50. Fantastic French Toast! Eggs Benedict! Ahh, my two favorite items at Marston's. This is one of my go to spots after a nice early hike at the San Gabriel mountains nearby. The parking lot here stinks. It basically fits a couple of cars. They do have metered street parking right out front, but that's pretty limited too. My suggestion is to use the public parking structure right down the street on the corner of Walnut and Raymond and avoid the headache altogether. (Its located right across the park) Marston's is known for their breakfast, so I've never tried anything other than that. Their breakfast ends at 11am, so show up early! The wait here is usually pretty bad because of how popular they are. It doesn't help that they aren't that big of a restaurant as well. They always have a little table out front, so just walk up to that and write your name and party number on the piece of paper, hang out a little and wait for your turn. The service here is usually good, but varies sometime depending on who's working at the moment. One thing that is consistent though, is that they'll always refill your drinks multiple times during your meal. Like I already mentioned, my favorites are the Fantastic French Toast and the Eggs Benedict. The french toast is corn flake crusted so its a little more unique than the regular french toast. For a little extra cash, you can add some fruits to it. The portions are pretty big, I can barely finish it even just having burned a thousand calories hiking. The eggs Benedict is very well done. I always substitute the Canadian bacon with pulled pork. The Hollandaise sauce is done just right. The meal also comes with a side of potatoes. After waking up at 5am to go to an archery range, my friend and I were STARVING. We wanted to try something new and since we hardly eat breakfast, we decided today would be the day....to eat BREAKFAST at the right time (anytime before 11am). (sorry people I dont watch sport) ANyway, we signed in and waited. There were 8 parties in front of us and about 14 parties after us. We waited for 40 min. During the wait, we were looking at the menu so when we get seated, we can just order right at the spot. 40 minutes passed and we were finally seated inside. It is a very old fashioned place and a lot of stuff looks like grandma's secret recipe kinda look..if you know what I mean. My friend ordered the Californian Omelet ($13.50): Chicken cilantro sausaage, spinach, tomato, cheddar cheese, avocado, and sour cream. It came with red potatoes and 4 piece toasts. Wow, when she scooped her omelet up, I can see that stringy cheese extended up like a pizza commercial. Nice! The portion was great because they use 3 eggs to make the omelet. I love breakfast so for me this was fantastic. Parking: Carpool if you can parking is a little tight, due to other businesses sharing the same parking lot. Service: They were very attentive and coffee was free-flowing which is just how I like it. Food: So we ordered three different items and then shared amongst the two of us. We ordered the "Works" French toast they are coated with corn flakes and served with candied pecans berries and whipped cream and they are delicious. We also ordered eggs benedict that came with Homestyle potatoes and OMG I would order anything with those potatoes and I love eggs benedict and they were definitely my favorite. I'd have to say that Marston's, with its quaint cottage charm and never a shortage of people standing outside patiently waiting to be seated, has a lot of hype to live up to. The decor of this restaurant is fairly novel--it actually used to be a house. They always do a lot of business and finding a place to park in their small lot is not easy. I've been here about 5 times and have mostly parked on the street. The food isn't cheap, but it's pretty good. Why did I give it only 1 star? The last time I came here was a while ago, but I feel compelled to tell the story. I came here for a weekday work lunch as a part of a group of 6. Our waitress was a nice older lady who has always been pleasant. After the meal, we were settling the check and of course we all put in a $20 bill (for a total of $120) since we had all gone to the ATM right before. The waitress hands the money to a younger brunette lady. I am assuming that she is the manager since she's handling the register and seemed to be running the floor. The manager came over and said that we didn't give her enough money. We were baffled because we knew we gave her $120. We suggested to her that someone may have dropped a bill, but she insisted that she didn't and at one point, she commented that our server might have. Our server looked all over and didn't find it, so the manager made it clear she wanted another $20 from us. Upset as we were, we didn't want to cause a bigger scene and begrudgingly gave it to her. On our way out, one of my co-workers went back to the manager and asked the her to give us a call if they found the extra money after reconciling for the day. Lo and behold, my co-worker got a call the next day because they DID find the money they accused us of shorting them. We got the $20 back and a half-apology where the manager explained that she got interrupted while ringing us up and forgot that she placed one of the bills in the drawer. Seriously, she could've handled the situation much better. And because of her mistake, she embarrassed a group of loyal customers, our server, and herself. Nice! Browsing through the menu, there were many delectable options, such as omelets, benedicts, and French toast. They are known for their French toast, so I opted for this, adding mixed berries to further gild the lily. The French toast was amazing. It was a heaping pile of crispy-crusted, Texas-size toast, with a mound of berries on top. The textural difference of the custard-like center and the crispy battered crust was excellent. More recently, I came back here for dinner because I had a groupon, and based on the yelp reviews, I didn't have very high expectation for their dinner service, but I was pleasantly surprised by my experience. For our entree, my mom and I got the lobster risotto to share, and my brother got the beef filet with shitake mushroom, blue cheese, and asparagus. Again, I wasn't expecting much, but omg, the food was delicious! While the risotto wasn't quite your traditional italian risotto, the flavor was just right, and they did not skimp on the ingredients. Mom and I both had big lumps of lobster on our plates, and there was also plenty of tomatoes in the mix. I tried a bite of my brother's steak, and i thought it was cooked very well. Tender, pink on the inside, and the mashed potato was good too. They had red velvet on their dessert menu, but I was too full for dessert :( I saw someone else order it though, and it looked pretty damn good. maybe next time? The downside to the whole experience was the price. They do not change their decor or lighting from breakfast to dinner. So you don't really get the feel that you're at a fancy restaurant or anything, but you end up paying fancy restaurant prices ($26 for the steak, $24 for the risotto). I feel like if they keep their prices closer to the high teens, low 20s range, their dinner business would be a lot better. Also, be prepared to be charged a $2 split charge if you intend on sharing an entree. I specifically looked for this disclaimer on the menu but didn't see any, so I thought there wouldn't be a split charge. but BAM, there is it, on the bill. $2 isn't a lot, but it's still kind of annoying, especially when they don't tell you about it up front. First, I love going out for breakfast on weekend mornings. It is a way for me to sneak away and relax for an hour or so. Now onto the review. To me this is a classic suburban breakfast joint. No frills, solid food and basic choices. When going to a new place I always get something that is common. Usually when I see "side of fruit" on a menu, I'm skeptical because they give you really crappy, tiny chunks of melons and berries, but the fruit here was surprisingly fresh and sweet. The fruit consisted of strawberries, cantaloupe, bananas, and pineapples. San Pasqual Omelet - comes with avocado, bacon, and cheddar cheese. If you want sour cream, it will be an additional $0.70. Comes with a side of their home fried potatoes and choice of toast. Again, lots of filling and full of flavor... We all ordered coffee and it's refillable. The coffee wasn't anything special, but it was much needed. Went well with our hearty breakfasts. My problem with this place is the smell. It was difficult to enjoy the food when something smelled distinctly of urine in the patio area... I just couldn't get over it. The food was good, but did not wow! A friend suggested meeting her for breakfast at Marston's. She lives in Pasadena and knows this place well - but I live on the Westside and never heard of it. First, the COVID protocols are great. I'm one of those totally paranoid people when it comes to this stupid virus - but I relaxed when I saw how seriously the staff was taking things. Which brings me to The Staff. Super attentive and friendly. I'm quirky in that the attitude of a restaurant's staff often means more to me than the quality of the food. It sets the tone for the entire experience. Our entrees were good - but not spectacular. But to be fair, we both had egg and toast dishes - and there's only so much you can do with that. However, the Fantastic French Toast is in a league all its own . . . sourdough bread dipped in vanilla egg batter and rolled in corn flakes. Good LITTLE breakfast brunch spot near old town. Breakfast and lunch are now served all day. Not a place to go if you are in a rush, because emphasis on the little, you will definitely wait for a while. They have classic breakfast/brunch options, I ordered the Florentine Benedict and It met my expectations. Others in my parts had the french toast with corn flakes, and an omelet. The french toast is fluffy but also crunchy from being coated in corn flakes. Great breakfast spot to just hang out, if you get in before the rush. Parking can also be an ordeal, they have a tiny parking lot, but looking for street parking would be the easier option. read more

Food was great.but service was horrible. They weren't attentive at all. We got there before the rush and some how everyone who got there after us got severed and left before us.. (it was two of us and two sandwiches) we never even got offered refills and when we would ask for something they either forgot or took forever and our food was cold by the time we got what we wanted . When finally asking for the check it took her awhile to come pick it up to ring us up. I had to go look for our waiter to get my card. I understand you can get busy but when I'm even seeing what looked like the owner or manager being attentive to everyone else makes me upset because we weren't acknowledged.. we had a dirty plates and empty drinks Just sitting there. read more

Delicious and filling... I'm glad I finally got to try Marston's out without the line as some yelpers have described this popular restaurant hidden in Pasadena. Definitely a country setting with local art on the walls for sale. It was hard to finally decide what I wanted to order because I had my heart set on the Pulled Pork Eggs Benedict. Instead I had the Chipotle Grilled Cheese with bacon of course. Yummy cheddar cheese, hot chipotle peppers, grilled red onions, and tomatoes on sourdough bread. Your choice of french fries, jicama salad (crunchy salad with julienned jicama, bell peppers, red onion, cucumber, orange, and lime juice), or orzo salad on the side. Delicious. I came here once a few months ago and was blown away with excellent service and delicious food so I wanted to come back since we were in the area. It is in a small house structure with small tables inside and a few outside on the porch. We were immediately greeted by someone upon walking in. From beginning to end, service was excellent. The breakfast and brunch menu is absolutely amazing. It ranges from pancakes to omelets and although that sounds like a typical menu, don't be fooled. The omelets come with potatoes that are perfectly seasoned and the French toast is topped with fruits and has the perfect crunch yet still soft. I even ordered the oatmeal which comes with sides (honey, brown sugar, cream and raisins) where you can add it in yourself and you can also add more toppings at an extra charge. The oatmeal was cooked to perfection and the toppings were just right. The Californian omelet is also a great choice if you like avocados. Large portions! Overall, I had a wonderful experience because the food and service were great! There is a small parking lot to the left of the restaurant if you are lucky enough to find a spot. read more

Marston's is a great little restaurant in Pasadena. I took my mom here on Saturday morning after having attended the CMYE event in Orange County the previous night. Having drank quite a bit I needed some breakfast. Marston's is a really small restaurant. It almost looks like a old house the was converted into a restaurant. The have a bout 20 small tables inside and several on the patio. The parking lot is also small. I was able to find parking on the street right in front of the restaurant. No money is required on Sat and Sun prior to 11 AM so I was good. Service: The service was great! The staff is super friendly and extra attentive. We were seated within 5 minutes, because they were barely opening. When we were seated we had 3 different waitresses ask about drink orders. The food came out promptly and they consistently checked with us to see how things were. I needed to head back to Orange County and so our waitress made sure we got out in a timely manner. Food: The was very good. I split the California Omelet and ordered a side of Oatmeal with bananas and a glass of Orange Juice. The California Omelet is delicious served with avocado and chicken cilantro sausage. It also came with toast and a side of potatoes. I love the chicken sausage! The oatmeal was a normal cup of oatmeal served with all the fin-ins (raisins, brown sugar, honey, cream). The orange juice was freshly squeezed, so it was also very good. Marston's is a great place for breakfast in the Pasadena area. They have a friendly staff and the food is great. Try the Chicken Cilantro Sausage! read more

I like this restaurant but for as long as I can remember the hand rails at the back door have been filthy. They have so much muck on them your hand sticks to the rail. Doesn't do much for your appetite. Couldn't hurt to give them a clean coat of paint. Take care of your property. read more
