There's a reason why there's always a crowd outside the restaurant. These people aren't messing around. The food portion is HUGE, and you can tell they're not concerned about calorie count. Real butter is used at this place, people! The servers are efficient and know how to manage a busy place. The menu is pretty big and price is reasonable considering how much food they give you. I mean, when you order the large orange juice, it was a LARGE orange juice. The omelettes are nice and fluffy and the fillings are generous. The NY steaks and eggs is also great. The steak was tender and nicely seasoned. For sides, you can chose between potato, cottage cheese, veggies, fruits etc. I walked out of there satisfied and happy. The only reason I would not give this place 5 stars is that the wait is just too long, especially weekend mornings. read more

Food is great. Service is great. The reason for my 1 star review is truly for the incident I was a witness to at this place of business today. I was waiting for a table, when I witnessed a blonde woman screaming, in front of everyone, at the employees. It was unseeingly. I have never witnessed such an ugly portrayal in my life. Honestly, this woman should get some training in common courtesy. read more

My family has been coming here for decades and Marston's has always been a fav for breakfast. However, today we were disappointed with the service & food. The order was incorrect, my egg omelet was overcooked and did not look like 3 eggs. I understand restaurants struggled during Covid but the prices are high for the amount of food you now get. And what happened to the excellent waitstaff pre -Covid? I will give it another time try so hopefully this was just a misstep. read more

After 25 years of enjoying the food and service here we have to share that it is no longer a place we recommend. We were there for breakfast and ordered our usual California omelette and french toast. The omelette was burned and the french looked and tasted like it was yesterday's tossed out toast! To add to the insult, the waitress couldn't bother herself with a smile or a warm greeting! She even expressed she was busy but there were only four parties seated inside and two outside including us! No usual lines or waiting so I was perplexed by her comments! Like my husband said, that's the last time we eat here. We can spend our hard earned money elsewhere like Millie's! read more

I found another good place to have breakfast that is somewhat close to where I am or where I am around. Woohoo!! BOTTOMLINE: The food was OK, not great. The service impecccable. The ambience, I cannot recommend enough. The price was affordable. TO ELABORATE: Thank you yelpers for the French Toast recommendation. The cruchy outside does give it something extra compared to most of the french toast out there but, don't hurt me!!!... it is not the best french toast there is. I ordered the spinach omelette and it came with toast and potatoes. The toast and potatoes are a bit on the burnt side. And I'm not talking crunchy coz I like cruchy, but burnt like with black spots. The omelette itself was large, tasty and super fluffy but for something called "The Spinach Omelette," it had waaaay more bacon than spinach. Which my husband loved but I ordered it! It's not for you dude! Having said all that, the service was impeccable. Attentive, friendly but not overly intrusive. The ambience really is homey! I love it! Especially for breakfast! read more

A solid 3.5 stars for this place. As a breakfast lover, I love the options that Marstons offers. I came here with my friend who is also a breakfast enthusiast, mention how wonderful the food is here. We shared eggs Benedict + seven grain pancakes with macadamia nuts. I love love the eggs Benedict, so yummy. The sauce that comes with it is so delicious. The pancakes were okay at best. Too grainy for my taste. Overall, the prices are pretty pricey for brunch. The eggs Benedict's were about $13 and the pancakes were around $10. ***small parking lot, best to park on the street read more

Super cute, a little house perfect for a shower. They make really, really good breakfast/brunch foods. There Pasadena salad is also amaz-balls. Only complaint - why are you always so crowded? And why don't you take reservations unless it's for large parties. A Pasadena institution, everyone should try it at least once. We opted for Marston's after a bad experience (for me) at breakfast the day before at Urth Cafe. This place is quaint with very friendly staff. Parking was easy early in the morning. I ordered the 2 eggs, potatoes & bacon. Easy and delicious. My friend ordered the corn flakes french toast. It was delicious. The portions were sizable so the value was great. Came here a while back for breakfast with my cousin and I really enjoyed the french toast! I decided to come back and give this place a try again, but I came a little too late for breakfast. We were given the lunch menu, and I ordered the smoked salmon sandwich. The sandwich itself is very tasty but I forgot to order no mustard. The mustard was a little overkill and overpowered the flavors going on. It was my fault for not ordering it without, as it was stated on the menu that it was a key ingredient. The club sandwich was also very good but again, the Dijon mustard was too much for me. Oh yeah! and beware, there can be a LONG wait. Especially for Sunday Brunch-- I think we waited about an hour but it was worth it! read more

Service: Very polite and friendly, attentive and prompt. Food: Meh, average. Something you'd find everywhere else. The egg florentine was good, the pancakes were not as I expected, it tasted like it came from a box. The regular coffee tasted odd, it's bland and had an unusual taste to it. Marston's is a quaint local breakfast and lunch spot. Their pancakes and French Toast are some of the best I have tasted. I had the Works which is French Toast covered in Corn Flakes & served with fresh berries and cream. It had a crunchy crust and soft center. Their pancakes are light and flavorful. Their potions are generous so share and enjoy. Btw, they have a kids menu for the little ones. Service was attentive and very good even though they were busy this morning. Come before 9am to avoid the long line. read more

a disaster! waited almost 30 minutes for breakfast, and a few tables were empty. waitress brought the toast about 10 minutes in, so it was stone cold when breakfast came. when the food came, potatoes were cold And underdone. I soon discovered what looked like a black hair under my hamburger patty...turned out to be a black thread about 2 inches. gave it to the waitress. I was now turned off the food by the "memory of the hair thread) altho there was more than 1/2 of my breakfast left. I ate no more. Bill came, no adjustment for my 16.95 breakfast, so I spoke with the owner who said she would make no adjustment because she was losing a lot of money already. Finally she said she would take off 1/2. She make no apology, and even said "well, I do not know what you found". I told her to ask the waitress, who had taken the black thread away. The new bill came and she had taken 3.00 off. I spoke with her again, and she said that is what she had offered the first time, that I was mistaken. She was pretty surly and nasty, so I told her we would not be coming back. She shrugged her shoulders. read more

I came here for a breakfast and saw they had good reviews. They have indoor and outdoor dining options. The weather was excellent so I ate outside and had a nice view of the trees and San Gabriel mountains. I tried their pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon. Everything tasted very good and the service was friendly too. The prices were reasonable and I would highly recommend this place which is in an old house. read more

Came here to lunch but got their Fantastic French Toast (four slices of sourdough dipped in vanilla egg batter and rolled in corn flakes) with bananas for $9.25 and a large orange juice for $4.95. The French toast came out with strawberries and blueberries, but after I told the waitress she brought me a side of bananas. The French toast itself was great. It was very original: crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, sweet with the maple syrup, and fruity with the toppings. Would definitely reorder. The orange juice was good but definitely not worth $5 (outrageous!). read more

All four of us on our recent expedition agreed that Marston's was a satisfying and pleasant experience. Ok, that makes it sounds like we were buying insurance policies or something - in plain and simple words, we all LOVED it. We came for brunch on a Saturday during prime brunch hour, and despite the fact that we were mentally prepared to wait a while for a seat, we were seated in under 15 minutes. Our waitress was quick, efficient, and no nonsense. We were most impressed when our food came out in just barely over ten minutes after ordering. Between the French toast, California omelet, some type of sandwich, and another omelet, we were thoroughly satiated and exceptionally happy. Portions were large, prices reasonable, not to mention A+ quality. Despite the fast and straightforward service, never once did we feel rushed or pushed out when we were done. If you're looking for a cutesy cafe to have a bridal shower, or an eclectic cafe to impress a young hipster, this isn't the place for you. But if you're looking for a sweet or savory breakfast and incredible bang for your buck, with tasty twists on the classics and variety for everyone, then for sure Marston's will have all that and then some. read more

It's a cutesy dutesy (spelling?) place and pretty busy. Parking is hard as their parking only allows for 10 cars max..maybe. Luckily it's a Thursday morning and we were seated right away. Had a "normal" breakfast which was two scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage and an English muffin. Can't really see how you can mess that up, so it was good..as you'd expect. My friend had their special omelette, can't remember what was in it but he said it was good. My other friend had eggs Benedict, so that's almost as basic as mine. We all split the blueberry pancakes (half order) and the works. Which was their specialty corn flakes French toast with strawberry, blueberries and whip cream. I think hat was the best part of the meal. Service was good, kept our water full and attentive. read more

The special soup of the day was French onion. They either need to find a new recipe or find someone that knows how to make it. It's really not that difficult. This was close to awful. The chicken salad was bland enough to satisfy most hospital patients. I gave it three stars because the popovers were pretty good. The Arnold Palmer was also good. Fun throw back vibe with a ladies who lunch clientele. For the love of Pasadena please work on at least the two things I ate. read more

Mmmm. Second time here and the food was okay. This is a major staple in Pasadena and for it to be okay was disappointing. The first time was good, lobster or crab Benedict I believe I had. This time I had the huevos rancheros and the tortilla weren't crispy at all, it was as if they poured a can of beans over it and sprinkled some cheddar cheese and Pico de Gallo (too much lime) and called it a day. You must try their crunchy French toast. I kept hearing about it and had to try it and it was so delicious. I couldn't decide between what I ordered and the French toast so the girl taking our order suggested I get just a side of the French toast. I didn't know I could, so it was perfect because I still got to try it without ordering the entire plate of it. The wait can be a little long sometimes. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated but it's worth the wait. I will be back soon. read more

Yesterday I went to Marston's and had a lackluster, overpriced meal. I ordered the Pasadena Salad, that consisted of tasteless spinach, dry chicken and sparse avocado. At $16.95 the salad was definitely no bargain! The candied pecans were the high point of the salad. My boyfriend had a dry vegetarian omelet. It was the better of the two meals. The English muffin was the best part of both meals. Even the coffee at 4.50 a cup was weak diner coffee. I wish I were able to give a more positive review and hope Marston's can improve! read more

This beautiful converted house restaurant is quite the experience. Saturday morning and not yet hot, we decided to eat outdoors. The staff is super friendly and the outdoor area is very clean. After ordering, our drinks came up immediately. I'm a breakfast guy so I opted for the San Pasquel omelette (( bacon, avocado and bacon. My wife ordered the spinach omelette with egg whites. Our friend went for the blackened salmon. The food was fantastic!! A small bowl of fruit capped off the meal. Never rushed, this is one of the more pleasant food experiences Ive had in awhile. For mothers day it was only reservations and a set menu with a fixed price. It included pastries, a meal and a dessert. We were seated fast and had our drinks right away! Coffee refills came around all the time and it kept us warm because we were outside. We ordered the tenderloin eggs Benedict, regulars eggs benedict, a children's french toast and a french toast. The vegan option was mot worth the 38 dollar fixed price so I gave up my vegan ways for the meal. The food came out fast and tasted pretty good. I was surprised by how big the food was! Also we were able to get dessert togo because we were in a time rush. To get our bill it took a while but besides that it was enjoyable. I hope to try out their regular menu in the future! read more

The problem isn't with food flavor but with description. The Texas chili with eggs said it contains meat, no mention of beans. It was essentially a can of beans. If there was actual meat it was so small I couldn't see it. Remember this is described as Texas Chili which traditionally does not contain beans. The reason I am not giving this review a 1 is because the cheese popovers were good. If only they could be more accurate in the menu descriptions they could save people like me from giving a bad review. read more

My go to place for a classic breakfast whenever I'm in Pasadena! Sitting outside in the patio is the best experience and the portions are worth every penny! The breakfast potatoes, omelettes, coffee and Orange juice are divine. Marston's give you that "mom and pop" feel and the food and customer service always bring me and my friends back! read more

We had our post Wedding family brunch at Marston's and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious, service beyond attentive and location so close to the hotels many of our guests stayed in. Tiffany handled the details with ease, excellent communication and attention to detail. I would highly recommend Marston's....good, old school quality that is so rare in restaurants these days. read more

I have been wanting to come here for a while. The food was really good with the exception of the toast which was hard. Not the best for covid outdoor eating. The lady (I'm assuming the owner) kept pulling down her mask. They continue to use the shared ketchup bottles and salt and pepper. They did have a hand sanitizer station which was nice but it would have been really nice to see the wait staff using it also! read more

We enjoyed our meal at Marston's, but we didn't find anything spectacular or memorable that would make it a priority when we come back to Pasadena. The Huevos Rancheros and Florentine Benedict were good, the Macadamia Pancakes as well. They have a nice homey set up too, which makes you feel you're having your meal at home. read more

I had the Fantastic French Toast which was really quite mediocre at best. The atmosphere, at least inside was not very nice, and the tables were all very crowded together (definitely less than 6 feet apart) which did not feel terribly COVID-safe. They also mixed up our check with someone else's, though they did fix it quickly when we pointed it out. I wouldn't go back. read more

My experience at this restaurant has usually been great, but not today. Father's day sucked. The wait staff was great but management was not. Our food arrived way late. Management decided to place priority on phone and to go orders but neglected dine in customers. That was so uncool. Management needs to do a better job. We came in at 10:13 and are going to leave at 11:46, most of that time was waiting. read more

I swapped the bacon for tofu, and it made for a satisfying breakfast. However, my husband wasn't as impressed with his brisket burrito, saying it was a bit dry. Based on this visit, I'd recommend sticking with the breakfast items, pastries, and of course, the coffee. Copa Vida still makes a great cup of coffee!

For food, we started with the bacon deviled eggs and shrimp taquitos. Those deviled eggs were lightly fried, which was different, then had apple wood smoked bacon on top, just a really tasty bite. The shrimp taquitos were also not what you would expect, nice and light but still very good. Entrees we went with the center cut fillet and the prime rib dip with swiss cheese on a brioche bun. That sandwich just melts if your mouth after dipping it in the jous, and the cheese was the perfect accompiament. The fillet was cooked perfect as well, coming out medium rare. Overall, great restaurant in Pasadena. Definitely get the Mai Tai, Devine eggs and prime rib dip. Taquitos were good and, if you're feeling like another hg er appetizer, definitely a way to go . The milk was smoothly integrated with the espresso, creating a balanced body that held together throughout the drink instead of separating after a few sips. It was served in the proper glass with clean presentation and solid latte art. The temperature was slightly hotter than my personal preference, which is understandable in a brunch setting, but overall it was a great cortado and far better than what many brunch cafés serve. The pain au chocolat was outstanding as well and a perfect pairing with the cortado. The service made the visit even better. Our server, Michael (aka Bev), was welcoming, attentive, and provided excellent service from start to finish. I also had the chance to compliment the barista on the cortado. Although I didn't get her name, she was very kind, took a few minutes to explain their coffee program, and shared that they use Boxx Coffee beans along with a dedicated water system to ensure the cleanest possible cup. It's always nice to meet people who genuinely care about what they're serving. Overall, Oh La La exceeded my expectations. Despite its popularity, I find the food to be fairly average. Much of it tastes like it's made from standard commercial food-service ingredients rather than prepared fresh. On the positive side, the prices are reasonable, the dining room has a pleasant atmosphere, and the staff is generally attentive. Overall, it's a decent neighborhood breakfast restaurant - nothing particularly memorable, but nothing especially disappointing either. The Reyn Special - 3/5. A classic breakfast plate with eggs, bacon, hash browns, and banana bread. The eggs and bacon are fairly average, although the bacon tends to be overcooked and dry. The standout is the hash browns. They're cooked with a nicely browned, crispy crust while still remaining fairly moist inside. The real highlight, however, is the banana bread. It tastes homemade and is easily the best item on the plate. Crepes - 1/5. This dish comes as two separate plates: one with the ricotta-filled crepes and another with eggs, sausage, bacon, and your choice of fries or tater tots. Unfortunately, the crepes are the weakest part of the meal. The ricotta-filled crepes don't taste freshly made and instead resemble a pre-made food-service product that's simply reheated before serving. Both the crepe and ricotta filling have a generic flavor with noticeable artificial notes. You can choose either banana or strawberry topping, but both sauces taste overly processed and artificial. The accompanying breakfast plate is noticeably better. I chose the tater tots, which were well prepared - crispy on the outside while remaining soft inside. The bacon, however, was again overcooked and dry, making it tough to chew. The sausage was acceptable but unremarkable. Scrambled Supreme - 2.5/5. Despite the name, this is essentially an omelet. The eggs have a mild, neutral flavor, and the fillings are okay but don't stand out. Coffee - 2/5. The coffee is classic diner coffee in every sense. It's somewhat watery, heavily roasted, and finishes with a flat, slightly bitter aftertaste. It's neither particularly good nor particularly bad - just standard coffee that does the job. Overall, The Reyn succeeds as a comfortable, affordable breakfast spot with a pleasant atmosphere and friendly service. While the food is average, and several dishes rely on ingredients that taste commercially prepared rather than freshly made.

I also really enjoyed the candied eggplant. It had a great contrast of textures and a slightly sweet, caramelized flavor that made it very addictive. The braised sea cucumber with beef tendon was another standout. Both the sea cucumber and tendon were cooked until tender and soaked up the savory sauce beautifully. We also had fresh uni and eel, and everything was presented with a lot of attention to detail. The ingredients tasted fresh, the flavors were well balanced, and the entire meal felt thoughtfully prepared rather than simply being about presentation. Service throughout the evening was excellent as well. Everyone was attentive and made us feel very well taken care of. I've been to Panda Inn before, but this customized dinner was truly a different experience. Beautiful presentation, thoughtful dishes, and a very memorable evening. This is a average to good place for breakfast. Tried the 3 most popular dishes - Eggs Benedict, The Californian Omelette, and the Fantastic French Toast (sourdough). The Eggs Benedict are good, and that's because the eggs are cooked just right. When you cut the egg in half, you can just see the yolk slowly oozing out of the egg. And when you take a bite, you'll notice that the flavor of the ham complements the eggs well, giving you a blend of balanced flavors. $12-$13 The Californian Omelette was good too. I was a little disappointed because my omelette was a little overcooked. But the pork in the omelette was good. $12-$13 The Fantastic French Toast (Sourdough) wasn't too good. But that's probably because it was sourdough. The other types of bread like wheat look like it'd taste better. $8 And the orange juice was great in that it was fresh squeezed, but what we got really weren't the best oranges that got squeezed. They were "ok" oranges...seemed like they weren't the best oranges out of the batch. And it was $5 a glass. not worth it. Went here on a Friday morning at around 10:30. My friend and I were seated immediately. I called for a reservation but the lady told me it's first come first serve. Restaurant looks like a typical house from outside and has a very cozy feeling that comes along with it. Received our food within 10 minutes. Had the eggs benedict with the special potatoes. Delicious except for the potatoes. I personally love plain, crispy hash browns and was surprised they didn't have it. The potatoes had the skins, mixed with onions and bellpeppers. I barely chewed down my frist bite. Not my type but obviously others like it. My friend had the hevos rancheras (breakfast item) or something like that. She liked it. Thought the tortilla under should have been crispy but finished the entire meal. Friendly staff. Refilled coffee all the time and checked on how we were doing twice within 30 minutes. THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE PLACE. OMG. WOW. I LOVE YOU GUYS!! My bestie brought me here for lunch on Monday. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside. Of course we had some wine, which was quite refreshing. We split the Cordierra Salad. THAT SALAD IS THE BOMB.COM I could totally eat it every day. There was not a scrap of lettuce left behind on that plate, when we were done. We also split a sandwich, that was on the special board but I can not remember the name of it. All I know is it was delicious. Once we were done, we were like hey, we should order the same thing over, to go, because it was sooooo goood. The servers were friendly and fast. The place was clean and cozy. The chairs were comfortable, the ambience was just perfect. I would TOTALLY recommend stopping in. I'd heard for years about Martson's french toast. Marston's is a well known breakfast and brunch spot that I'd heard about for years, but never managed to get to. Hubby and I finally did. The french toast starts with thick slices of sourdough bread that's dipped in egg, then rolled in cornflakes before it is fried. The portions are huge, the bacon crispy, and the fruit very fresh. But the french toast tasted like it had been cooked in oil that had previously fried fish. It was quite unpleasant. The coffee was ok. OMG! Yummy place for breakfast. The French toast is to die for. Me being from New Orleans near the French quarter takes me back home! Kinda reminds me of the French beignets! Also the sausage is very tasty! I have to worn you on refilling the coffee, it's addicting, and by the 3rd cup, I became jittery and super talkative! Haha! You don't have to eat a whole lot to be filled. Parking is not the best there, but hey that's almost everywhere in Pasadena. This place gets super busy during the weekends. My suggestion is to come during off days like a Tuesday or Thursday before 10am for breakfast. Also the secret is to park at the meter in front which is free before 10am! Oops not a secret anymore! Having breakfast in the patio is a very warm welcome to a new day. I was glad that their server is very polite too. It was a really decent greeting of another day. The food came and everything was still perfect. Then came this woman. I am not sure if she is a waiter because she has a different outfit. Maybe she was late for work. She came to our table and rambled some unpleasant morning remarks, not a greeting at all. Then asked if we need some more, say water. My mouth was still full so I wasn't able to answer her promptly. Insanely fast service. However, the line is quite long, especially on the weekend. Never an empty coffee cup or water glass. If you like your coffee the right color and cream/coffee ratio, put a saucer on the cup, if you look away for a moment, someone will top off your coffee cup without you ever knowing it. The food is decent, but pricey... It is nice when you want something quick. I love all of the decorations on the walls. It makes everything so homey. read more

This was the third time at Marston's. The food was OK. The place is very crowded and that is because of the small space, but we were right next to other table which I could hear everything they were saying. The food was expensive and not that good. I think Lovebirds does a much better job with their omelette's. There was no improvements since the last time I was there, so 3 stars is enough. You just really appreciate if a restaurant serves and uncomplicated items on the menu. So I ordered sandwich and a soup just to fill my stomach. I only had a light lunch as I try to watch out my calorie intake. Then the bill arrived and it really shocked me. I couldn't believe I was paying that amount for the stuff I ordered. The outside patio of this place is very cool. Perfect for breakfast. It feels like a breakfast in England or in Paris. Then when you have the French toast as this place is popular for, you'd really get awake for thinking hard what made people think the French toast was cool. We did not wait long for our food and had not one problem with anything. The parking was either in front on the street or the small lot right next to Marston's. Amazing breakfast place! Food (especially the French Toast) are exceptional and the service is very friendly and helpful. One drawback is the wait (sometimes 20-30 minutes on a Sunday morning), but that's to be expected with such a busy place. However, don't let that deter you from trying Marston's out...just be prepared or arrive earlier. read more

Due to the Covid restrictions in Pasadena, the hotel I was staying in did not offer a breakfast that I found adequate. Luckily, I found Marston's was only a short walk away. They offered dine-in, porch tables, or take-out. The food was wonderful and I will certainly avail myself of their services when I am back in the area. Highly recommend! read more

I saw that this place was voted as one of the best breakfast places in california so that tempted me to try it out. Went with a couple of friends and were not disappointed. French toast and eggs benedict were perfect. Price is not the cheapest but not too bad either. I would definitely come back and try other things on their menu. read more

I needed the holder of lamb, that was prepared flawlessly and was along with a rejuvenating frisee greens with goat cheeses. They had prepared a wonderful menu for the party to select from and throughout the afternoon floated in and out refreshing everyone's drinks. We learned that a lot of the dishes were based on family recipes, which only added to the charm! They brought out the most incredible broccoli soup to start off with--rich, creamy, textured, perfectly salted, and paired with the best bread! They also gave us some slices of their pumpkin-walnut bread, which we could have eaten a loaf of! Everyone loved their respective entrees, which all were huge portion sizes. I thoroughly enjoyed the charbroiled burger topped with avocado, bacon, swiss cheese, tomatoes, white onions, and thousand island sauce with a flavorful dill pickle and a delicious side of refreshingly crisp and slightly sweet cole slaw. The Tuna Marco was a huge hit as well-- a delightful tuna salad, with tomato, lettuce, and swiss cheese on a soft, buttery croissant. My partner also raved about the Salmon Salad, which featured perfectly cooked, fresh, succulent charbroiled salmon atop a bed of mixed greens, tomatoes, capers, and onions, drizzled with a bright balsamic vinaigrette. Our discerning toddler also did a happy dance and ate a surprisingly large portion of her kids meal bean and rice burrito with a side of rice. Then for dessert, we had an entire chocolate velvet cream cake, which was four layers of heaven. This dessert was light, not too sweet, and really hit the spot. I could eat that every night! All around, I couldn't have asked for a better baby shower. Many thanks to Kathleen and her team for making it such a special afternoon.
