Busy on Sunday afternoon but they accommodated us - party of six. The service was slow and things didn't make sense: why the specialty coffee drink and chocolate milkshake took such a long time to finally be served to us, when the person making the drinks wasn't busy at all. The following was wrong for our orders: no cheese on an omelette that asked for cheese, butter on toast where we asked for no butter, mozzarella sticks we ordered never came. My friend asked for butter as the food was being served up, and the server said, "I'm giving out the orders first, then I'll get your butter." I can't explain how rudely it was said and obviously the server was flustered. The worst of it - an order of eggs with salmon incorrectly came with peameal instead, and when we politely said it was the wrong order, the waitress argued and said that's what she wrote down, so it had to be correct. Honestly, it was such an uncomfortable situation to be challenged like that. I have never seen a server behave that way and I'm not sure if it was just too busy or if she doesn't realize how rude or inappropriate her response was. I gave her a decent tip anyway and in retrospect I wish I hadn't. The food was alright but the service was bad, the place is quite tight so I didn't feel comfortable. The stairs to the washroom are quite steep. The washroom stall I used in the ladies' room had the toilet installed so close to the door, that my feet were sticking out from behind it. I could barely close the door - there was no space between it and the toilet. I DO NOT RECOMMEND and I will never return. read more

One of my favorite brunch spots of all time. I love that all the menu items are space-themed and they play 60s hits. They've got a good amount of booths and 2-seaters. Good for group of 4 or less. Ambiance: Its a casual diner with that typical diner look. Chrome & the colours are black, white & red. The diner is very narrow so be prepared to possibly bump into people. If you're claustrophobic this might not be the place for you. I wasn't able to count how many seats are in this restaurant. But I estimate about 20 seats. Service: Our waitress was friendly. Service was relatively quick. Food: The food was not impressive to me at all. I had the classic Mars burger. Hubby had the big bang burger. My burger had some kind of sauce that tasted odd to me. The burger patty was kind of small too. The fries were dry and overcooked. For dessert I asked for the red velvet cake. It was really dry and tasted like it was three days old. I would never eat here again. Washrooms were in the basement and clean. But very cramped. Tall and large people would have a hard time fitting in the ladies washroom stall. One of the stalls I went into was so close to my knees. I had to be careful. Otherwise, the door would have been pushed open by my knees. I really didn't like this place. I will I would not choose to eat here again. I came here because a friend chose this place for her birthday. read more

Retro looking diner with fairly extensive list of diner classics on the menu. Stopped in for a quick late night bite and ordered grilled chicken clubhouse with Greek salad. Can't really complain much about the club, it tasted ok I mean not much you can really screw up. Construction of the sandwich needs a bit of a fix though as putting the mayo onto the lettuce means everything slides out when you bite into it. The Greek salad was really good lots of feta, pitted olives, super fresh ingredients. Dunno if the dressing is just from a bottle (probably) but it too was tasty. Better than Greek salad from many Greek restos including a few on the Danforth! However it's called a grilled chicken clubhouse sandwich and the chicken is definitely not grilled it's just deli meat chicken. The price is $19! The pandemic etc was tough on restos but with inflation and all that some resto prices are getting ridiculous. I paid $31 incl tax and tip for the sandwich salad and a soft drink. Service was great in fact the food came out impossibly fast like within 5 minutes of me ordering. How is that even possible? Sometimes when it comes out too fast it raises questions... After having to come down I got locked out of my building. After getting inside I opened the box to see my order of extra cheese and extra sauce. It's the driest pizza I've ever seen and no extra cheese. I call the location and asked for another pizza that I asked for then I was told that's not an option so I asked for the manager and was told there isn't one so try calling back tomorrow, ok so I asked the name of the person I was talking to so could use as a reference and he refused. I was super excited to try this place, and I was so hungry that I ordered the grand slam- two eggs, three sausages, three pieces of bacon, potatoes, toast and a pancake. It was really good but nothing spectacular. The sausages were a little too oily. My boyfriend got the veggie omelette and said it was over cooked. This is our favourite place for breakfast! My boyfriend is British and this is the closet that we have been able to find for an English breakfast. He just loved his breakfast. Granted it did not come with the black pudding or roasted tomatoes but that was not a deal breaker for him. My corn beef hash eggs benedict was a nice variation of the normal eggs bene. But is swear by any of their eggs bene due to the muffin...it isn't super hard to where you need a knife to cut it! Service is top notch. The coffee is good. Be prepared to wait if you go on a weekend for breakfast or lunch but they get people in and out pretty quick. read more

First off, the waitress brought water for half the table and said she would return but didn't come back with the other cups of water until 20 minutes later. When she came back, one of the cups had hair floating around in it. The food is typical of what you would get from a diner so not too much to complain there. However, it did lack in basic flavours - given what we ordered (eggs, sausage, etc). They only had one type of jam on the table - if you like strawberry, you're in luck! The milkshakes were too milky and did not have the right viscosity for a milkshake (needed to be thicker). Overall, it was decent but not the best. Tables were sticky and service was poor. For the wait, I'm surprised at the quality of food. However, there's not a lot of brunch competition around either. read more

Service and decor are on point for an old school diner, and the red vinyl booth seats take you back to the 50s. I got the Breakfast Special ($6.45) with eggs over easy and tomatoes and toast instead of home fries. Adding sausage or bacon is extra but wanted to eat healthy in a diner for some reason. More than classic Coca-Cola glasses and a cheeseburger on the menu is required to fully capture the feel of the experience. Probably not having Bon Jovi blare through the restaurant would be a start. At least there's a few places in Toronto that are the real deal, and Mars Diner at Yonge & Eglinton is one of the better ones. Mars was established in 1951, right at the beginning of the diner craze and the layout and feel has not changed. The look and feel is that of original fixtures, not of an archetype attempting to be recreated. There are booths that line the side of the restaurant opposite the counter were service is available from a stool as well. The menu is through-and-through diner, specializing in sandwiches, burgers, fries, and entrees that will be fried, greasy, and delicious. As much as I love the items on the menu, the first thing I noticed was the pies in the front cooler. Honest to goodness pies. If not for a quick greasy breakfast, a fast lunch, or a retro-dinner, Mars is definitely one of the few places in the city where you can stop in the afternoon, get a cup of coffee and a slice of apple pie. It is really hard to give most restaurants I have seen or been to in Toronto more than a 2 or 3 star. I can't believe the # of dumpy restaurants in this city. The only reason I chose this restaurant is because it looked relatively clean and nicer curb appeal compared to other brunch restaurants in the area.
