One of my favorite brunch spots of all time. I love that all the menu items are space-themed and they play 60s hits. They've got a good amount of booths and 2-seaters. Good for group of 4 or less. The staff are quick and super friendly and accommodating. I'd definitely recommend this spot if you're uptown! read more

Busy on Sunday afternoon but they accommodated us - party of six. The service was slow and things didn't make sense: why the specialty coffee drink and chocolate milkshake took such a long time to finally be served to us, when the person making the drinks wasn't busy at all. The following was wrong for our orders: no cheese on an omelette that asked for cheese, butter on toast where we asked for no butter, mozzarella sticks we ordered never came. My friend asked for butter as the food was being served up, and the server said, "I'm giving out the orders first, then I'll get your butter." I can't explain how rudely it was said and obviously the server was flustered. The worst of it - an order of eggs with salmon incorrectly came with peameal instead, and when we politely said it was the wrong order, the waitress argued and said that's what she wrote down, so it had to be correct. Honestly, it was such an uncomfortable situation to be challenged like that. I have never seen a server behave that way and I'm not sure if it was just too busy or if she doesn't realize how rude or inappropriate her response was. I gave her a decent tip anyway and in retrospect I wish I hadn't. The food was alright but the service was bad, the place is quite tight so I didn't feel comfortable. The stairs to the washroom are quite steep. The washroom stall I used in the ladies' room had the toilet installed so close to the door, that my feet were sticking out from behind it. I could barely close the door - there was no space between it and the toilet. I DO NOT RECOMMEND and I will never return. read more

Ambiance: Its a casual diner with that typical diner look. Chrome & the colours are black, white & red. The diner is very narrow so be prepared to possibly bump into people. If you're claustrophobic this might not be the place for you. I wasn't able to count how many seats are in this restaurant. But I estimate about 20 seats. Service: Our waitress was friendly. Service was relatively quick. Food: The food was not impressive to me at all. I had the classic Mars burger. Hubby had the big bang burger. My burger had some kind of sauce that tasted odd to me. The burger patty was kind of small too. The fries were dry and overcooked. For dessert I asked for the red velvet cake. It was really dry and tasted like it was three days old. I would never eat here again. Washrooms were in the basement and clean. But very cramped. Tall and large people would have a hard time fitting in the ladies washroom stall. One of the stalls I went into was so close to my knees. I had to be careful. Otherwise, the door would have been pushed open by my knees. I really didn't like this place. I will I would not choose to eat here again. I came here because a friend chose this place for her birthday. read more

Never had a bad breakfast or lunch at Mars Uptown. The staff are great, food is delicious, and the prices are decent. There are very few diners with a sort of 1950s-60s style ambiance like this left in Toronto. read more

Retro looking diner with fairly extensive list of diner classics on the menu. Stopped in for a quick late night bite and ordered grilled chicken clubhouse with Greek salad. Can't really complain much about the club, it tasted ok I mean not much you can really screw up. Construction of the sandwich needs a bit of a fix though as putting the mayo onto the lettuce means everything slides out when you bite into it. The Greek salad was really good lots of feta, pitted olives, super fresh ingredients. Dunno if the dressing is just from a bottle (probably) but it too was tasty. Better than Greek salad from many Greek restos including a few on the Danforth! However it's called a grilled chicken clubhouse sandwich and the chicken is definitely not grilled it's just deli meat chicken. The price is $19! The pandemic etc was tough on restos but with inflation and all that some resto prices are getting ridiculous. I paid $31 incl tax and tip for the sandwich salad and a soft drink. Service was great in fact the food came out impossibly fast like within 5 minutes of me ordering. How is that even possible? Sometimes when it comes out too fast it raises questions... Honestly I don't know if I'd go there again. Nothing special and its pricey. There must be other options in the area right? read more

We liked this diner.. in heart of midtown, going to a retro like diner feels good. Breakfast menu is complete and you cannot go wrong with anything. Egg Benedict was super delicious, classic breakfast was very good. Service was friendly and fast There were some flys in the diner which was annoying. Also house made potatoes seemed not much fresh , otherwise everything was very good. read more

The food was great, service was nice but there was a thin layer of grease on everything in the restaurant.

DO NOT ODER FROM THIS LOCATION OR COMPANY First the driver refused to deliver to our apartment number and told me I have to come down to collect it, I've had pizza from this location to my door many occasions before in the last year but the driver said it's been this way since the pandemic...not true. After having to come down I got locked out of my building. After getting inside I opened the box to see my order of extra cheese and extra sauce. It's the driest pizza I've ever seen and no extra cheese. I call the location and asked for another pizza that I asked for then I was told that's not an option so I asked for the manager and was told there isn't one so try calling back tomorrow, ok so I asked the name of the person I was talking to so could use as a reference and he refused. WORSE SEVIRCE AND CUSTOMER CARE, JUST WANTED THE PIZZA I ASKED FOR AND TO BE DELIVERED, KINDA WHAT U WOULD EXPECT FROM ORDERING A PIZZA. WILL RECOMMED EVERYONE TO STAY WELL AWAY FROM THIS LOCATION AND COMPANY. read more

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I was super excited to try this place, and I was so hungry that I ordered the grand slam- two eggs, three sausages, three pieces of bacon, potatoes, toast and a pancake. It was really good but nothing spectacular. The sausages were a little too oily. My boyfriend got the veggie omelette and said it was over cooked. Prices are pretty standard for an average breakfast meal. read more

Not enough large tables. We came as a group of 5 and we had to be split up because they had offered the only two larger tables to groups of 3. The greek souvlaki was dry, and there wasn't enough tzaziki sauce. The portion size of everything except the fries was disappointing. The garlic bread and the souvlaki were dry. We also had to wait a while to get both our food and the bill. Free WiFi, password is uptown51. read more

Classic diner! Food: 4/5 Tasty breakfast. Service: 3/5 Fast and efficient. Environment: 4/5 Busy weekends. Classic feel. Washrooms: 4/5 Fine. Worth it?: 4/5 Came for a weekend brunch. It was fairly busy and we we're a group of 6. They do not have many tables for a group this size but we were able to sqeeze into one of the booths. The service was fast and efficient tho there was a hair in one of the waters. It was sorted quickly. The food was pretty good. The grand slam was tasty and the Mars mountain looked good however j was expecting a bigger mountain. With such epic names I guess I was just expecting to be super full. Still, I was quite satisfied. super heavy but delicious breakfast. I had the Mars mountain which is everything; Bacon, Sausage, Pancakes, Hollondaise and Eggs.. It was on a dare and it might have taken 5 years off my life but so worth it. Service was very good too and even though the place was busy, it was prompt and nice. Its an old school dinner with the ambiance to match, but very unpretentious. Would go back. read more

This is our favourite place for breakfast! My boyfriend is British and this is the closet that we have been able to find for an English breakfast. He just loved his breakfast. Granted it did not come with the black pudding or roasted tomatoes but that was not a deal breaker for him. My corn beef hash eggs benedict was a nice variation of the normal eggs bene. But is swear by any of their eggs bene due to the muffin...it isn't super hard to where you need a knife to cut it! Service is top notch. The coffee is good. Be prepared to wait if you go on a weekend for breakfast or lunch but they get people in and out pretty quick. read more

We arrived at 11 am and I glad we did. It got busy soon and the line up started. A lot of options on the menu, VERY GOOD food. We had fun looking into the names on the menu because is thematic (very creative). Then the place is a little bit tight though, but I find it worth it going there. read more

Standard diner joint. Breakfast was fine, nothing that blew my mind. Best part was the dark rye toast since you rarely see that ever. My omelette lacked cheese, felt like after thought. Home fries pretty good. Service was good. Overall, it was just fine, nothing spectacular or out of this world like its name suggests. read more

Came here to try their brunch while my mom was in town. First off, the waitress brought water for half the table and said she would return but didn't come back with the other cups of water until 20 minutes later. When she came back, one of the cups had hair floating around in it. The food is typical of what you would get from a diner so not too much to complain there. However, it did lack in basic flavours - given what we ordered (eggs, sausage, etc). They only had one type of jam on the table - if you like strawberry, you're in luck! The milkshakes were too milky and did not have the right viscosity for a milkshake (needed to be thicker). Overall, it was decent but not the best. Tables were sticky and service was poor. For the wait, I'm surprised at the quality of food. However, there's not a lot of brunch competition around either. read more

Solid diner, with all the usuals and a retro look at a reasonable price. While looking for breakfast, I stumbled onto this place, and remembered their other location on the Beach, so decided to try it out. Service and decor are on point for an old school diner, and the red vinyl booth seats take you back to the 50s. I got the Breakfast Special ($6.45) with eggs over easy and tomatoes and toast instead of home fries. Adding sausage or bacon is extra but wanted to eat healthy in a diner for some reason. Washed it down with some bottomless coffee. For this price uptown at Yonge/Eg, its a downright bargain. read more

We've all been to old-"style" diners with fake finishes, gaudy paraphernalia-strewn restaurants that attempt to emote the days of the 1950s diner and sadly most to all fail to capture the essence. More than classic Coca-Cola glasses and a cheeseburger on the menu is required to fully capture the feel of the experience. Probably not having Bon Jovi blare through the restaurant would be a start. At least there's a few places in Toronto that are the real deal, and Mars Diner at Yonge & Eglinton is one of the better ones. Mars was established in 1951, right at the beginning of the diner craze and the layout and feel has not changed. The look and feel is that of original fixtures, not of an archetype attempting to be recreated. There are booths that line the side of the restaurant opposite the counter were service is available from a stool as well. The menu is through-and-through diner, specializing in sandwiches, burgers, fries, and entrees that will be fried, greasy, and delicious. As much as I love the items on the menu, the first thing I noticed was the pies in the front cooler. Honest to goodness pies. If not for a quick greasy breakfast, a fast lunch, or a retro-dinner, Mars is definitely one of the few places in the city where you can stop in the afternoon, get a cup of coffee and a slice of apple pie. Groovy, Daddy-o. read more

Had the corned beef eggs Benedict. A really nice variation on a breakfast classic. Food was served fast. The waitress was super nice. We came in 20 minutes before closing but she didn't rush us at all and was super considerate asking us if we wanted desert after we were done even though it was after closing time by then. Very classic diner-y aesthetic. This is maybe nitpicky but the menu has a terrible font and design. For a retro diner they have this wacky wingdings/block letter like menu design that doesn't fit with the rest of the place. Overall good food, decent price, fast and friendly service. read more

Always love coming here for their grand slam - best menu item for when you crave BOTH savory and sweet food, which is me all the time. Seating is pretty cramped, but it's a diner so I have no complaints. Service is good - servers always come around to see if you need refills. Price is average too, within the $ 12-18 range depending on what you order. I have yet to try their non-breakfast dishes. read more

Came in from usa my man looked up breakfast close to us and this looked the best. Walked in it was a small place but it was full and we were seated quickly. Table was wet but at least it was cleaned off b4 we got there. I enjoyed the blues playing in the kitchen and our waiter was very pleasant told us the special and answered all questions. The oj tasted fresh squeezed and was amazing (used a straw). I had the fresh fruit pancakes and I couldnt even finishe them all. We were visiting Toronto with Family from the states and asked a random Torontonian for a recommendation for brunch! The Mars Uptown Cafe did not disappoint. It is really hard to give most restaurants I have seen or been to in Toronto more than a 2 or 3 star. I can't believe the # of dumpy restaurants in this city. The only reason I chose this restaurant is because it looked relatively clean and nicer curb appeal compared to other brunch restaurants in the area. Service was really good, food was alright, and coffee made me feel a bit sick to my stomach. I ate the egg & cheese. I think Golden Griddle is still the best option in the area for brunch. read more

Went there on a rainy Saturday evening and found no problem securing a booth. The service was masterfully quaint, and the waitress was charming. We're a eat breakfast any time kind of people and so I ordered an English Breakfast. It was perfection! Eggs cooked just right, sausages the right amount of savory and the toast buttered with generosity. The baked beans were decidedly delicious. And to wash it all down we ordered a chocolate malt shake. All in all, a good spot for a cute diner experience that would potentially make for a good brunch spot! Cheers! read more

I had the grilled Reuben here. I thought it was on the average to poor level. The service was quite quick and pleasant though. I think their prices are too high for what they offer. Having had a glance at the menu, I feel like most items are a dollar or two more than what they should be. read more

I was expecting this diner to be a little cheaper $40-$50 for breakfast for two people just isnt reasonable to me! The orange juice was lovely and fresh but the food was nothing to shout about. Open late, good for after the bar. Grimy but still pretty good. $10 for eggs benjamin, which is like eggs benedict but with smoked salmon instead of peameal... It's all about the benjamins!! Hollandaise looks like melted cheese. Food is mildly nauseating but service is fast, friendly and food is tasty compared to other late night/24-hour diners (like Fran's and Denny's). Hungry, late night, in the 'hood, go here! Better than McDonald's, Burger King and Golden Griddle for sure, and you pay maybe only $5-$10 more than the above-mentioned, depending on what you order. read more

My eggs 'n onions were excellent and the home fries good. Standard toast and coffee. My breakky-mates corned beef hash was "VERY good", perhaps better than the Quarry Cafe's, which they proclaimed "excellent". Service: good Decor: A serious diner setting. Food: Good. Breakfast foods and burgers/poutine. Review: Being a Yonge street it was a bit hard to find parking, but then again it is hard to find on Yonge anywhere. The food was good but it felt a bit "gimmicky". I felt like you were buying into the "diner" atmosphere more so than the food. Personally, I go to restaurants for good value food, not the atmosphere. Reason for stars: I felt like it was too "gimmicky" for me. The food was good but I felt like I was paying for the "scene" and not so much the food. It reminded me of a "Wimpy's". read more

Had not been here since they revised their menu; Its somewhat of a diner, and after p aying $42 for breakfast for 2 people, (including tip) i thought it was a bit steep really. The service was good, both times I was here, and you won't leave hungry! The portions are a reasonable size, and bottomless, decent coffee too. The waiter, knows his stuff, and makes some good recommendations. The freshly squeezed grapefruit juice was a nice touch as well. They have 2 sizes of it, small and large. Or go for the freshly squeezed OJ instead! Pancakes are ok too, but if you can finish them, you must have been mighty hungry! They have some nice muffins bran and low fat bran , if you are into that, so get one to go on the way out. for a snack later.... Will be back! PS I actually went to the Sunset Grill first, just down the street; but left because it was like an oven in there, and the staff was whining about having to fold napkins etc...so I figured bad karma, and left. read more
