Thought I'd give Mark Pi's Express (near Waggoner and E Broad in Columbus) a chance today after more than a year because it seemed like they were always out of something. Today, I ordered the plate with kung pao chicken, beef, and broccoli w/ the super greens. I got home and there were probably three bites of each entrée and more than half of the plate was vegetables. If I had asked for vegetables, they probably would've been out of them or but that meal is supposed to have two entrées and a SIDE order of vegetables. . Incredible Chinese food! We had been craving takeout Chinese for a while and just had not found the right time. We're so glad we stop by for lunch. The food was incredible. We got the general chows chicken, sesame chicken and an eggroll. Everything was fresh and crispy. The sauce was so delicious. The people at the store were very nice, and the food came out so quickly. Got carry out on a cold snowy night. This place gets bonus points for reliability! They were the only Chinese carry out place open. Service was really fast. The menu has a lot of choices which is great. Food was average tasting but a good deal! Most entrees are around $7. Would recommend in a pinch or late night! read more

Literally the worst Chinese place in Columbus. I have no idea why there are people saying otherwise. The best in Columbus? That's an absolute joke Average? Sure, I only tried a couple meals here, so I can't speak for the rest of the menu. I always give a place two chances before I veto any future visits. The worst? Most likely. Do yourself a favor, go to Happy House across the street, or literally any mom and pop, classic Chinese food restaurant and you will not only get much more food, but much better tasting food. read more

I love Mark Pi's food. I love that they are on Door Dash as well, because sometimes I just don't want to drive. We got Chicken Lo Mein and Hot Pepper Chicken, and 2 ordered of crab Rangoon. I grew up down the street from this place & I've been eating there since I was a child; I'm 41 now. I don't live in the immediate area anymore but every time I am nearby, like today, I go there & get the chicken stir fry & it is STILL delicious & exactly the same as it always was. This is one of those Chinese restaurants that most likely makes a certain Columbus Yelper shudder in authentic Chinese disgust or maybe he just says "Meh" and keeps on driving. This place is designed to get you in and out as fast as possible. How do they perform this feat? Their secret is to stir fry and deep fry everything, splash sauce on it, put it in a styrofoam box and have it ready for you by the time you get to the end of the counter. Henry Ford would be proud of this production line. The food here is value priced Chinese cuisine morphed to American tastes. It's not authentic and it's not particularly good for you, but for a quick Chinese food fix, it tastes pretty damn good. I've never had a bad meal here in over 15 years. I'm rather partial to anything there that has teriyaki sauce on it. The only thing I'd definitely not recommend? Hot and Sour soup - thin and bland. read more

Sometimes you just need some good cheap Chinese food. Mark Pi's gets the job done for me. I've had several different items for takeout here and all have been pretty good. This time I ordered the vegetable fried rice. Portion size is pretty decent and it's made quick. I do wish there were more descriptions or pictures of the food online or the grub hub app because sometimes I'm not sure which thing is which. read more

The best word to describe this place : inconsistent ... another good word to describe it going downhill fast .. it is not what it used to be a few years ago .. you just get less food, and the quality is not good.. chicken sometimes tastes and smells weird as if it was old or frozen with something else, or it tastes like the freezer .. The staff courtesy is a hit and miss sometimes they are friendly sometimes they are rude throwing things around and if you ask for something extra of the condiments they just slap it on the countertop and walk away. The quality has decreased during pandemic as well but they definitely skimp out on food amount, and freshness of their ingredients. The meal is just not filling. The food is consistently delicious. I subtracted one star because of the serving size. In the past my Styrofoam tray would be full, this day it was half. I could make 3-4 meals out of it. For full price you receive half the food. Maybe the cut backs are due to decreased business from Covid19. I would gladly pay a few more bucks for full size. Mark Pi's food is so good. read more

Okay. First question is why would I go here? Short answer is we all make bad decisions sometimes. Another explanation is I thought possibly it would be good in a "mall" Chinese kinda way. Meaning, not really Chinese at all but just super salty and satisfying. Reading the other reviews that gave it a few stars made me really sad for these people that clearly haven't good Chinese and not even good "bad" Chinese. I got the Pepper Chicken. This was "served" on a Styrofoam plate with the flimsiest plastic fork I've ever encountered. LOTS of white rice. TONS of onions and grease and very little chicken. I've been going here since I was a kid in the '90s and it's delicious and consistent. I moved to Cleveland several years ago and just went for the first time in several years. Same great food and same great family working there. I arrived just before closing after driving down from Cleveland. I didn't realize when ordering, but the fryer was already cleaned out before I ordered egg rolls with dinner. No problem, the wok MASTER who has probably made me dinner 100 times over the yeasts deep fried them perfectly in the wok after finishing my General Tso's and Mark Pi Chicken! I honestly love this place. It's quick and easy. Walk in, order with the friendly lady who is usually working whenever I come in, and bust out. It's been super awesome having them open during this Pandemic, especially being right down the street. You can also get them delivered through DoorDash if you aren't wanting to venture in. The owners seem very nice and they were really quick with the order but if you can't even eat it, that's a problem. Until I realized that there is something else at work in this Grandview haunt. I order the ABC so I can watch the line cook chop the chicken with his cleaver. As much as the cleaver's association with violence and gore has come to fascinate me, it's the rhythm on the cutting board I crave. THWOP goes the opening strike, snapping to it the eyes and necks of daydreaming patrons. In comes the accompaniment; a low roar and cautionary hiss of steam as the wok man, sweat beading on his weathered brow, begins to cook. The flames lick the steel as a marooned sailor licks the last moisture from a windfall coconut. The practiced ballet of the staff has already begun, unnoticed to the casual observer. THWOP the cleaver lands again! The sound sets my salivary glands to work, a hundred million years of evolution ready to enzymatically eviscerate the birdflesh waiting to slide down my gullet. SCRANCH a styrofoam container is laid bare, the discordant screech perhaps out of tune in the unfolding symphony, yet it is the unmistakable signal that we have reached the climax. In the blink of an eye (and YES I do mean the blink of an eye) each component of the meal is assembled, packaged, and tied as expertly as could be asked of any man preparing a desperate Christmas morning gift in a meager attempt to save his disintegrating marriage. And like THAT it's over. Move along now, other customers are waiting. In my time no other has been as visibly spellbound as your humble author is to watch this ritual, born as it was from thousands of years of Chinese restaurateurs. It is at once as if I was here for a century, and a picosecond. At times, the unwary may try to resolve this paradox at the precise moment the polyethylene bag slides into their hands, but being a paradox, it is unresolvable, and such a person is apt to find themselves as I did, retching painfully in the general direction of the men's room to deep peals of laughter from the wizened patriarch of the store. My boyfriend and I tried this place because we like the Mark Pi's in Whitehall. Worst decision of my life. They're clearly not in any way related food quality wise. I ordered the Kung Pao Beef and my boyfriend, the Kung Pao Chicken. We took maybe a collective 5 bites between us. Both of our dishes were absolutely disgusting. My dish tasted like it was rotted, dropped on the floor and covered in an obscene amount of fish sauce. I will never go back here for any reason. read more

I ordered the gang pang chicken with rice. It comes with crispy chicken, jalapenos, onions, and carrots. They make it right in front of you. The chicken is pre-cooked and then the cook adds it to a hot wok along with the sauce and veggies, which heats up the chicken again. The chicken wasn't that great but was decent. I wish they had a brown rice option though. This is a good for a quick meal. The portion size is pretty large, if you are really hungry you can eat the whole thing, or save some for a snack later. read more
