I really enjoyed this restaurant. It is in the old part of the town and looks out on the historic bridge. The place is quaint. The waiter was very freindly and kept making sure that our waters were refilled. He recommended the special which was a crab melt. It was delicious. My partner had the pork schnitzel and he said it was very good!

Hubby and I are in Florence for a couple days to celebrate our anniversary. We had a lazy day today and wanted to check out the downtown area. When we got hungry, we decided on Mari's Kitchen. Husband had perused the menu ahead of time (as we often do) and their website advertised a Hungarian goulash, which is kind of why had decided on this place (hubby is Hungarian and loves to find dishes that remind him of the flavors his grandmother cooked when he was a child). We were greeted warmly upon walking in and we opted to sit outside as the weather was lovely. We could not locate the goulash on their printed menu and were disappointed when we inquired about it and were told it was no longer being offered. Darn. Hubby and I both chose the chicken marsala instead. Our server, who was terrific, brought our salads (included with the meal) first. They are small and were comprised solely of spring mix, red onion, diced tomato, and some Parmesan on top. The ingredients were fresh, though, and it's probably a good thing that they weren't any bigger as I would have filled up on that before my meal arrived. Our marsala dishes arrived piping hot. A delicious chicken breast, pounded thin, sat atop mashed potatoes and were smothered in a delicious marsala sauce. While the marsala was wonderful, the potatoes really shined through as the star of the dish. There was a flavor about them, almost like a tang, that we thought may have been a dash of lemon juice. Unexpected in mashed potatoes but it really elevated the potatoes and paired very well with the savory flavors of the chicken and sauce. Chicken was cooked perfectly, tender and juicy. My husband commented that he believes this is the best marsala dish he's ever had. My one and only complaint, which is really quite minimal, is that I would have appreciated a vegetable of some sort (aside from the mushrooms in the sauce - I'm thinking along the lines of green beans, broccolini, asparagus, etc) to accompany the chicken. I would have preferred this over the salad. I decided toward the end of our meal that I wanted to try the meatball soup as it was spoken of highly here on Yelp, so I ordered a portion to go. I sampled a bit of it when I got back to our hotel. My first impression is that it was very oily. The portion I received was basically two chunks of celery, one coin of carrot, and perhaps 5 mini meatballs in broth. Decent flavor but a bit underwhelming. Service throughout was attentive, personable, and accommodating. We were disappointed that the dish we came for was no longer offered, but the marsala made up for it. If we lived here locally, this would definitely be a place we would return to.

I feel bad leaving a negative review because the staff was genuinely so kind and attentive but the food was just bad. I ordered a steak medium rare and it was basically raw. It came with mashed potatoes which were horrific to put it kindly. Maybe they have a Romanian take on them that I can't appreciate but I find it hard to call these mashed potatoes. I also ordered a side of fries that were the worst fries I've ever had in my life, limp and pathetic which is basically how I feel after eating them. Maybe other things on the menu are better but I would tread cautiously.

This was our 2nd choice restaurant for dinner & now we know why:/ The staff were friendly. We ordered the Gorgonzola Burger with fries & the Crab Melt also with fries. Like previous Yelpers, the fries were partially cooked, undercooked, & overcooked- all in a single frie:/ The burger was good. The crab melt was lacking in crab (but what was present was tasty). The bread it sat on had very crunchy edges & almost a squishy center:/

Thin and dry fish and chips and frozen French fries, and no included Cole slaw or salad. $24??

I'm pretty disappointed in Mari's after last night. We've previously had great brunch meals there (which they now don't offer?). I hate dissing a local restaurant, but they missed the mark last night. I ordered halibut fish and chips ($24) and they were expecting them to at least be as good as the best on the coast: Luna Sea. Not even close. First, it didn't even come with cole slaw? I ordered a side salad which was extra. But worse was the quality of the fish and chips. The halibut (3 medium size pieces) was thin, hard, and very dry, definitely overcooked. It really tasted frozen and not fresh. I've had better Gortons frozen fish fillets. Seriously. Inexcusable. Has the or chef ever been to Luna Sea or Drift Inn and had their fresh fish and chips? Even the tartar sauce tasted like it was out of a jar. Blah. The French fries were absolutely frozen without any doubt. Half of them were petrified and inedible. Hard as rocks. Service was mediocre. She never came by after our meals were served to see how everything was. Again, that's pretty basic. I will never go back after this experience. We live here in Florence but there are better places to drop our $107 dollars for 2.

I stopped in with a friend for a late lunch. Service was slow, we waited more than half an hour for our food to arrive. I have been here before but couldn't quite remember. Now I do, by their pathetic fries. DO NOT order the fries!!! Undercooked to being almost raw, so the waiter brought us another portion but this portion was a third undercooked, a third overcooked and a third "just right". Oh well, we will eat it. I ordered a cheeseburger after being told the meat is local and the patty is handpressed. I ordered medium-done. Unfortunately the patty was done well, not warm in the middle but hot and fully cooked. And the cheese was a mere sprinkle of shredded cheese over the burger patty. Doesn't quite qualify as a cheeseburger in my book. My friend had an excellent portobello burger so I am giving them 3 instead of 2 stars..... sadly so.

This is our second trip here. Breakfast was stellar, highly recommend the schnitzel. Tri Trip sandwich - Served open face. OMG. So good. Just eat it!! Just...go...eat..it. Service was outstanding. Tiny and busy but worth the wait.

Location was great and friendly staff. The aroma of garlic was fantastic! Food was good and felt it was freshly made. We ordered the fettuccine Alfredo and, shrimp/crab burger, clam chowder, pork schnitzel w/bacon, and fish and chips. All great especially for picky eaters in my party--there was something for everyone.

Came to Mari's because it was highly recommended, but seriously, how does a Romanian-based restaurant survive in a place like this? The answer is, it does. After trying all the seafood on the waterfront and not finding what we were looking, for we tried Mari's and it did not disappoint. We got the Romanian goulash and meatballs and meatball soup and it was crazy good This a a rare instance where you will find authentic food not where you expect it. Do not miss on the opportunity

Absolutely not. No. We willingly ordered menu items with eggs, knowing there was an up-charge. I willingly ordered a waffle with my omelet knowing there was a $3 up-charge. My husband & daughter both ordered clam Chowder with their sandwiches knowing there would be an up-charge. Huge mistakes on our part. We were willing to pay extra for all of those things and it turned out they were all awful. Ironic, isn't it? My waffle was cold. The butter didn't even melt. It was dry & I'm guessing a store bought frozen waffle. It had to have been. They give you your syrup in a to-go syrup. Restaurants don't do that! She gave me only 1. The clam chowder was cold and so salty it couldn't be eaten. It was left in the bowl. I'll say that again. So salty. It's bad. I ordered the meat omelet without sausage. The egg was paper thin. So thin that it looked odd. I can't even call it an omelet. My entire plate was wet from grease. Sausage was in the omelet, but there was an attempt to remove it by the cook. They failed that attempt. The cheese was pre-gratted cheese, and you know that it doesn't melt because they coat it in corn starch at the factory so it doesn't clump. It was not the thick grated cheese either, but rather it was the thin grated cheese. It did not melt. YOU CAN'T USE THAT ON AN OMELET! The ham was lunch meat, not diced ham. My hashbrowns were dehydrated, which can be fine, but I don't think the cook hydrated them before frying them in oil. Too crunchy to eat. I couldn't eat them. The only good thing I ate was the strawberry they used as garnish. 1 strawberry & 1 piece of melon. I didn't eat the melon, so it might have been good. We'll never know. They charge 3% for using your credit card. Who does that in 2025? That was shocking, as I didn't see it posted. I felt like this might have been the most expensive, worst food I've ever had served to me. Absolutely not good to me. The waitress was very nice, but I knew she knew how bad the food was. What waitress sees a full bowl of chowder on one plate, and half an omelet & most of the hashbrowns on another, and doesn't ask if we want a to-go box? She probably has people leave their entire plates full all day long. That's a bad sign. She also didn't check on us. It must be hard to be nice and have this kind of good served. My daughter did say the burger tasted fine, so there's that. Fine. I will never eat at Mari's again. My photos tell the story.

Great food! I had the special and I never had a better flat iron steak. It was done perfectly rare. The crab and shrimp on top were over the top. My bride had fish n chips and loved them. The clam chowder was also great. Instantly welcomed by the bartender/waiter and seated. Order placed and hot food served in a reasonable time. Awesome pictures and decor.

Our server was the best! I wanted to take her home!! The food was so fresh and wonderful! I highly recommend this place!

This is one of those experiences that you wish you didn't have, and that someone gave you fair warning. I'm going to that someone for you. Don't waste your money or time at this restaurant, because it's a sure guaranteed disappointment on all fronts. Initially I had read such great reviews about their food, etc., it was looking forward to a scrumptious breakfast. We weren't greeted when we walked into the restaurant, and it was unclear if we were supposed to wait for a seating, hostess in the crowded space, or seat ourselves. Someone yelled at us from another part of the restaurant, which sounded like we should seat ourselves, but then a man appeared and seated us at a dirty table. He mumbled something about bringing menus when he had a chance, but he didn't know when that was going to be. Eventually, menus appeared, as did a half filled glass of water for each of us. The water was warm, and there wasn't any ice in the glass. We perused the menu, and try to check out what other patrons were being served to see if anything had caught our eye. The man walked by again, and said he would come back whenever he had time. So far, they are at strike two. A woman appeared, and took her order, but she clearly did not want to be bothered. We ordered one hot chocolate, and our breakfast items. The hot chocolate arrived, and the mug was filled 3/4 of the way, and looked and tasted like it was a packet of hot chocolate that you would buy at the grocery store, and they added hot tap water. It absolutely was not drinkable. We ordered the smoked salmon on a toasted bagel, and it probably was the worst tasting salmon I've ever had. I've eaten, smoked salmon, literally my entire life, and I'm not certain where they found this fish at, nor where it was smoked, but it wasn't edible. Not to mention the way the food was literally thrown on a plate, it look like something that anyone could've put together quickly in their own kitchen. Even the onions that were on top of the bagel were poorly cut. Just not restaurant quality whatsoever. The schnitzel, which I've never had served over bread, was served over a toasted croissant with some type of gravy. The gravy was barely warm, and the schnitzel definitely tasted like it had been sitting around for a while. I'm still perplexed as to why it would've been served on top of a close to burnt croissant. We both struggled to share it, and it wasn't much more edible than the lox and bagel. The service was nonexistent, and the attitudes of what clearly is a couple that own this restaurant, are indicative of people that have no clue as to how to run a restaurant, how food should be prepared and served, and their general attitude doesn't belong in a restaurant. Let's not forget how over priced the food was. Avoid the cluster, and dine elsewhere!

We stopped here for brunch. David met us with a smile and a great personality. The menu was very descriptive and the staff were able to point us in the right direction for choices. Oh my. We are staying in a rental across the street from this place and saw it had the highest reviews so we walked over for breakfast. I have one thing to say. Fresh homemade croissants. Yes. The eggs were perfectly fluffy, the gravy was homemade with sausage, the schnitzel was tender, just great all around. Also, our server was on top of her game and answered all my questions about the food and kept the coffee coming while serving most of the restaurant. Don't forget to get a croissant. read more

Running a restaurant is hard. My family arrived at the restaurant right at the time when you're switching from the lunch crew to the dinner crew. I can understand that that might have created some of the confusion with our order. What I have to say now is that for the kids menu the food should be simple without any kind of additions. My grandson ordered the kids burger, but asked for it with nothing but ketchup. On the menu this burger comes with lettuce, tomatoes, and garlic aïoli. I understand that that might be a nice burger for an adult, but a kid doesn't want garlic aïoli they want simple. They also want their french fries to come cooked properly and plain with maybe ketchup or fries sauce. Here they put air fried french fries on a plate with Parmesan cheese. Anyway, my wife and I both ordered the seafood Pastitio and I have to say both of us were less than impressed. The temperature of the food was not great. I would say it came at a temperature of 90°F. Also, it was supposed to include prawns and halibut. The prawns were overcooked and the halibut was very chewy. I am also not sure if some of the fish was actually halibut because it tasted like cod. Overall, I would say that the staff that took over from the lunch crew was amazing. Our server was totally on our side and wanted to make our visit as pleasant as possible. I want to let everyone know that this review is based on my personal preferences and I have high expectations. I am a highly qualified chef who has cooked for some of the most important people in the world. Taking that into account, I will say for a small town. The food was OK but not worth the price. I want everyone to take into account. The fact that this was at around 3 o'clock in the afternoon and that is the time when the staff turns over, so there are bound to be a few issues When you're a full-time restaurant. One thing that really stood out was that we ordered the feta cheese plate, appetizer, and the flavors in that were outstanding. It was the highlight of the meal. So I think that the chef/cooks in that kitchen have potential, but it is important to do the basics correctly. I am pretty sure that the fries were cooked in an air fryer and not in a deep fryer. I also think that those fries were from a food service vendor coming in frozen and that is not helping you at all. Biggest takeaways I can give you is make the kids burgers, smaller keep the caramelization, which was amazing. Keep it plain with the opportunity to add ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, whatever the child will like, but it should be a very simple meal. I wish you all the luck in the world. I know that running a restaurant is hard and I hope that this information helps you to be even more successful than you already are. read more

I had Chicken ala Bucharest - grilled chicken breast on a bun with bacon. avocado, lettuce, tomato, and garlic aioli. Delicious. My bf ordered the charcuterie board. (I know...but cut up pepper jack was the only cheese ) It absolutely should not be on the menu. Service was friendly. read more

This was my third visit to Mari's Kitchen since March. I went alone when I was in town house hunting. I took my husband when we celebrated our wedding anniversary, and I just went there with good friends visiting from out of town. The food is delicious, with thoughtful combinations, perfect seasoning and welcome variety. The meatball soup is very special and not to be missed. Our friends ordered some with their meals and agreed. They said they understood what I meant! The service was appropriately attentive and friendly and as relaxed as the atmosphere. I highly recommend Mari's Kitchen. We will certainly be going back! read more

Our friends recommended this place to us and it did not disappoint! The place was packed yet the staff were so calm and cool, it was awesome! We started with the meatball appetizer which was very unique and full of great flavors! I had the crab encrusted halibut with pesto pasta. Fantastic. It was a lot of food that normally I would never be able to finish but I wasn't letting this deliciousness go to waste! My husband had the skirt steak and literally the best mashed potatoes in the world! I don't know what their secret is but the potatoes were to die for! We got talked into cheesecake at the end of the night drizzled with chocolate. Everything was beautifully presented! This is a must when you're in Florence! read more

Checked this place out on a sunny afternoon in Old Town Florence. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere with outdoor seating. The wine selection is decent, and they had Fort George IPA, one of my partner's faves. I had a Tuscan Rosso - Very good. We shared crab cakes - beautifully presented and delicious. I'd go again for dinner when in town, menu looks great! read more

We're were walking by when we saw the Lobster mac and cheese sign. I'm not going to say what happened next.. but, after we finished with our original task we headed straight back to Mari's kitchen. We had the lobster mac and cheese. $22. The waiter was awesome! He was friendly and cordial and had the Mac and even the salads split for us. It was amazing. There was just the right amount of macaroni and cheese and lobster. You should try! read more

We ultimately decided to eat here because it was the one please without an hour + wait time and I only saw one negative review. What a mistake. In hindsight, I would have preferred to go McDonald's. I'll start by saying that the service was actually quite good. There was only one waitress but she was extremely nice. She was very thoughtful, offered suggestions when asked and honestly went above and beyond. They also offer Moscato which I don't see at too many restaurants. That's where the good ends. There were flies EVERYWHERE. They were flying in front of our faces, landing on us and on the table. It was incredibly annoying and gross. I ordered the "Musaca" (which I'm pretty sure is supposed to be Moussaka) and it was not like anything I had ever seen. It was swimming in sauce and really just tasteless. It's supposed to be a layered dish, I didn't see any layers. My husband ordered a Burger with fries. The burger was okay but the fries were super hard. They had an extreme stale-ey crunch to them. I would definitely look elsewhere. read more

The menu is filled with many great choices. The Hungarian specialties are super. I really enjoyed my meatball soup. Our fish and chips were lightly fried and very tasty. As were the very good French fries. The seafood was fresh and cooked just right. We tried the salmon and cod. And there is a full service bar with a nice variety. We will be coming back. read more

The food was inedible. We ordered the Chicken Marsala and it was so tough we couldn't cut it. The mashed potatoes were brown, lumpy and cold and the mushrooms were raw. I ordered the Bucharest chicken sandwich and it tasted a bit fishy. The roll was not tasting fresh. I upgraded to the chowder and it was inedible. We ordered replacement for the Marsala opting for a cheeseburger. It was edible, but the fries were only partly cooked and covered in Parmesan cheese. The server was indifferent about it all and charged us for the Marsala which was more expensive than the cheeseburger. They did not seem to care and barely checked back. Will not return here! Saw several people walk by noticing the restaurant was empty, deservedly so. read more

Everything was perfect. Great friendly service... attentive,. And polite. Understaffed, so 2 waiters were really busting their backsides and did a great job. Things tend to always be slower here in Florence, so enjoy your table mates, relax, and enjoy. Terrific food. Comfort foods is what I would call the selections. I had the Romanian reuben... It was buttery and delicious. A bit different than the standard Reuben. Breakfasts area wonderful. Location is great Excellent prices. What more can we say? A+++++ all the way! read more

We came here about 4 weeks ago, since we were in the area and decided to make a repeat appearance to this cozy little restaurant. We got there and we were seated immediately. The staff is super friendly, and Sarah even remembered us from the last time we were in. Try the baked feta *chefs kiss you won't be disappointed, the cheese was perfectly baked, the blisterd tomatoes were juicy and sweet and the rosemary bread tasted like it was made locally. The location is in quaint in old-town, and we sat outside with a view of the water and the bridge on a sunny day. The server was very friendly and attentive. Husband had the chicken parmesan sandwich special with clam chowder and absolutely loved it. Chicken was breaded and cooked perfectly - flavor was excellent. Soup was thick with potatoes and very tasty. I had a BLT with garlic aioli on sourdough. Bacon was thick and cooked perfectly crisp. Tomatoes were fresh. Just walking around the area this was not my first choice, but it served the purpose of feeding a couple of hungry kids that were tired of fish and chips. One had the linguini with salmon and the other had spaghetti. I had the Seafood Pasticcio, a tomato based stew of halibut and shrimp. There was plenty of really good halibut, but only 3 shrimp. Service was good and they even let us sample from an unopened bottle of wine. read more

Came here for dinner on a Friday evening. The food and service were both really good. Ambiance: small restaurant with a bar and both indoor/outdoor seating. Very mom and pop feel Food: overall very delicious. We ordered a bunch of seafood dishes. Crab cakes: too bready for our taste, but the pieces were large and had a nice crisp on the outside Crab crusted halibut: very delicious, highly recommend. Halibut was cooked perfect, nice meaty chew to it. Had a cream sauce on top, and the crust was again nice and crispy. Came with pasta with marinara sauce, which was nice and thick. Fish and chips: ordered with the cod, nice and meaty pieces. Clam chowder: not New England clam chowder. Was filled with bacon, potatoes, some clams. A different style, but was good and nicely seasoned, which helped balance all the potatoes. Very satisfying meal from a mom and pop restaurant. Woefully understaffed and sadly prepared to be cooking food. The $19 crab Caesar? It may as well have been served on a paper plate.... to say it's "under whelming" doesn't do it justice either... The garlic fries had uncooked garlic on them... I'm sorry waitress... There's no denying the flavor of raw garlic... The crabcakes were the highlight and kept them from getting 1 star rating. read more

If you want superior cuisine and super friendly service staff, try Mari's Kitchen, a lovely venue on the bay in old town Florence, Oregon. This is the second time we've stopped for lunch on a casual Sunday drive and both times we raved at the extraordinary flavors with the European flare. I highly recommend The Gypsy, a spicy burger with sharp garlic auolie, siracha, and gorgonzola and homemade fries. Delish! Also I recommend the chicken schnitzel sandwich. I wanted a taste of Romania and Mari's was excellent. I closed my eyes while eating my appetizer soup and was brought back to my time visiting Romania. I had the meatball dish served over mash potatoes and it was incredible. I brought it home to my wife and kids and the devoured the rest. I ate outside on the patio, was great. My server was the owners son and he was great, even got to use my limited Romanian. read more

Mari's is a cute little bar/restaurant on bay street. The staff is really excellent, and it's clear they know the locals also. I had a seafood linguini, which was absolutely delicious! I also had chocolate cake (who can say no to chocolate cake), which was great. There were vegetarian options on the menu. read more

Wow....this review is going to be the truth bomb here, but it needs to be said. Met a dear friend in Florence yesterday for lunch. We wanted to sit outside in the sunshine and the place I was going to suggest had no outdoor table so we looked at the menu posted by the door and saw two open outdoor tables and sat down. My friend's son is a master chef in Seattle and I am a HUGE foodie! I moved to OR from FL to be closer to the best organic food and eat seasonally. Well...I can honestly say...the only food that I enjoyed here was the 3 (not 6) oyster entree. The service....that was also problematic. I won't be back. The menu had items that the prices were crossed out and increased w/ a pen. The appetizer 3 oysters was 18.00. Yes...you read that correctly...$6 a piece!!! (their website menu is not what they use today). The entree says 6 pan fried oysters w/ pasta or potato and side salad- see image. We each ordered a margarita...it was just ok for $9 (tasted like a slightly adulterated lime aid drink). My friend ordered a basket of bread and butter ($12 for about 1/4 of a loaf of baguette that frankly could have been bought at Safeway bakery- white tasteless)-one of the two butters in a plastic cup was flavored w/ herbs. We each ordered the entree pan fried oysters (she had pasta and I had mashed potatoes) both with side salad. I asked if they make their salad dressings in-house. The response was confusing. It was "Yes. We do." then "Well, we do for most of them unless we are unable to." So with that I asked "Well, what is homemade?" Reply "All of them." Ok..."I'll have the salad with Ranch please." I'll start w/ the positive....the THREE large oysters were very flavorful. That is the end of the positives. My friend asked "Where are the other three oysters?". The waitress went back to the kitchen, came back and said "You only get three because usually there are 6 oysters the size of a quarter." REALLY? That isn't what the menu says. The plate didn't have a dish w/ tarter sauce but just a dollop on a piece of lettuce. My friend went inside to speak with the chef since she has owned a cafe before and her son was a chef in a very nice restaurant in WA. The chef justified his reasoning for the 3 oysters but offered to comp the basket of bread ($12). My mashed potatoes were brown...like burned and spicy. The salad dressing NOT HOMEMADE. It was store bought so I asked for the balsamic vinaigrette. What I got was a plastic cup of mostly olive oil w/ a touch of balsamic...but I don't know where it was. I just didn't eat it. The service. When I went inside to get silverware (because we asked for it when the only waitress on staff) there was only two people at the bar and one was the bartender (sitting at the bar not standing behind it). No one at tables and outside it was three tables total w/ patrons. It was manageable. Someone in the kitchen was helping to serve the food to tables. The waitress forgot to bring more tarter sauce (the silverware) and didn't check on us or ask if we wanted boxes for our left-overs. She just took our plates and left the check. The discount was $22 off the food bill so we paid $48 for 2 drinks and 2 entrees. Still a steep lunch for the lack of protein and overall sad lunch. I won't go back. read more

I've eaten at Mari's multiple times now and have to say it is the best food I have had in Florence since moving here (about 3 months ago). My husband and I like to do date night and try a different restaurant every week but since we tried this place for the first time we kept on coming back because we had the MOST OUTSTANDING experience here. Our waitress was so kind funny attentive and easy to talk to we LOVEEEDDD her I believe her name was Carrisa. The food was BEYOND EXCELLENT!! Phenomenal! Born & raised in San Francisco discovering restaurants, Michelin rated to holes in the wall with amazing dishes. Mari's is a cut above the norm. Pure decadence. From the appetizers to desert, the presentation to the quality of service is world class. The Balsamic reduction with the crab cakes and fried oysters brought the excellent to superb. The pasta was perfect and the Alfredo sauce gloriously creamed garlic; perfection. We had a fun dinner at Mari's. Our host and server, Florin & Sarah were friendly with great interaction and service. We had one of Florin's famous Bloody Marys along with the Romanian meatballs. I wouldn't hesitate to order both again! read more
